The Hyundai Tucson (/ˈtuːsɒn/; Korean: 현대 투싼) is a compact crossover SUV produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai. It is named after the city of Tucson, Arizona. It was originally known as the Hyundai JM when it was introduced in Japan in 2004.

The second-generation model was marketed as the Hyundai ix35 in several markets, including Europe, Australia and China, before reverting to Tucson for the third generation. Since its first generation, the Tucson has been developed alongside the Kia Sportage, sharing platforms and engines.

The Tucson is the best-selling Hyundai SUV model, with more than 7 million units sold globally since it launched in 2004. Of these, 1.4 million units have been sold in Europe.

The fourth-generation model marked the switch to a mid-size car platform using the N3 platform which is shared with another three corporate siblings, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, the Hyundai Mufasa and the fourth-generation Kia Sorento. As of 2022, the Tucson is positioned between the Kona or Creta and the three-row Santa Fe in Hyundai's crossover SUV lineup.

Common 2005 Hyundai Tucson problems

The 2005 Hyundai Tucson has been known to have several common problems, primarily related to transmission troubles, air conditioning issues, and engine problems. These issues have been reported by owners of this car and can be found in various sources, including online forums, reviews, and technical service bulletins.

Transmission Troubles:
The most prominent issue that has plagued the Hyundai Tucson is transmission troubles. Many users reported that their vehicle would not move forward and accelerate after it came to a stop on the road. This problem is especially noticeable in the 2016 model of this car. Other transmission problems include lack of shifting, transmission hesitation, and a lurch forward after a stop. These issues can be costly and dangerous, as they can affect the car's ability to move and accelerate properly.

Air Conditioning Issues:
Another common problem with these models is the air conditioning and heating system. While this isn't dangerous, it can be expensive and make driving the car a painful experience. This issue can be seen in all of the years mentioned above, including the 2005 model. Some examples of air conditioning and heating problems include: system not working, intermittent operation, and bad odor when the system starts.

Engine Problems:
Engine problems have sporadically plagued the models listed above, including the 2005 model. From engine failure to loss of power while driving, the Hyundai Tucson has experienced it all. The 2016 model has had engine and transmission issues, making it a model you should avoid at all costs.

Forward Collision-Avoidance System Issues:
Some of the newer Hyundai models are equipped with the Forward Collision-Avoidance – an advanced safety feature designed to prevent accidents. However, several 2019 Tucson owners reported having issues with this system. According to one report, the Tucson had a delayed reaction to a potential collision, and that's after setting the system to early warning. Furthermore, some drivers expected that the system would give out two warning signals before the system took over and automatically applied the brakes. However, some drivers had to use the brakes themselves.

Acceleration Troubles:
Difficulty accelerating is one of the hallmark issues with 2016, 2017, and 2018 Tucsons. Several drivers reported they had trouble accelerating after coming to a stop. Stepping on a gas pedal does nothing, and the SUV remains unresponsive. Some reports indicated that it takes more than a few seconds for the vehicle to rev up.

These are some of the common problems that have been reported by owners of the Hyundai Tucson, including the 2005 model. While some of these issues can be costly and dangerous, others can be inconvenient and uncomfortable. It is essential to be aware of these problems and consider them when purchasing a used Hyundai Tucson.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-01-31
  • VIN: KM8JN12D55U
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: This car accelerates while unattended. Most likely due to an ECM malfunction and unable to properly respond/send signals to the motor. On 4 occasions, the car has accelerated, even if in park. It will go 25mph on its own and to stop I had to put it in neutral. I’ve seen that my car isn’t the only one experiencing this. Considering it’s an ECM issue there should be a recall because that is not a part you change during the life of a car.

Negative 2005 Hyundai Tucson car reviews

  1. Gillian Raynor 2024-09-01

This SUV has a sleek appearance similar to a new Lexus, but with the added bonus of dual exhaust. While the gas mileage is fair, it is comparable to my previous 8 cylinder Mercury Grand Marquis. The stereo system is a bit buzzy and I plan to have it replaced. It would be great to have power seats. The automatic/manual shift feature is not necessary. I did experience a defective speed sensor which caused the engine light to come on, but it was easily fixed.

  2. Vince Mills 2024-08-06

If you're looking for a vehicle with a focus on fuel efficiency and build quality, the Tucson is a great option. While it may not have the largest cargo space, it is extremely well built and perfect for those who prioritize quality over quantity. The Tucson is also a great choice for those who prefer a more relaxed driving experience. Thank you for considering the Tucson for your next vehicle!

Positive 2005 Hyundai Tucson car reviews

Your LX 2.7L V6 4WD vehicle sounds like it's in great shape with only 48K miles and regular maintenance. It's great to hear that you enjoy driving it more and more each year. I completely understand your preference for the original body style over the new Tucson design, as it offers better visibility and less sun on your face. Additionally, the V6 engine provides more torque than the new Turbo 4 cylinder engines. Overall, it sounds like you have a reliable and enjoyable SUV on your hands!

  2. Julius Collins 2024-11-22

I recently took my 2001 Hyundai Elantra to the dealership for an oil change and tune-up. However, I ended up leaving with a 2005 Hyundai Tucson, which I absolutely adore. I love everything about this car, from its sleek look to its stylish interior. Unfortunately, just one week after purchasing it, my best friend's husband accidentally backed into the front bumper, causing around $1200 worth of cosmetic damage. Thankfully, the engine was not affected, but the bumper was severely damaged. It was quite challenging to find the necessary parts for this new car, and it took two weeks to get the front bumper replaced. So, let's all be careful and avoid any accidents with our beloved cars!

Overall, I think it's an excellent mid-entry SUV. It's definitely not the largest, but it manages to be rather spacious and comfortable considering its smaller size. It's not cramped like most small SUVs. With all the standard features and optional upgrades, I think you made a great purchase.

I love my new Hyundai Tucson! It's comfortable, stylish, and great on gas. While it can be a bit sluggish on hills, it still meets my personal needs for a small SUV.

As a car owner since 1952, I must say that this car is the most fun to drive out of all the cars I have owned. The front wheel drive provides adequate power, making the steering absolutely delicious, especially with its small turning radius. This gives outstanding control, meaning you can go very clearly wherever you point the vehicle. You have to try it to feel it! The interior has a 'vanilla' aesthetic, which is tasteful and industrial. Considering every other luxury feature, I can't complain about the price.

Aug 22, 2021 ... Only real issues was transmission problem but it got rebuilt by the prior owner. Think the Tuscon only came with the 2.7 v6. Upvote.
