STEERING,SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-15
- VIN: KM8JN72D97U
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE
- Summary: The rear passenger control arm broke off of the subframe due to severe corrosion despite Hyundai applying a corrosion preventative under recall 17-01-013 on 12/1/2015. During all service work following the preventative in 2015, corrosion was never brought up as a concern by the dealership (we have all service records since date of initial purchase). Thankfully we had just reached our destination and were parking the car when the failure happened. Had the part failed 5 minutes earlier, we would have been on the highway at over 60mph and could have been seriously injured or worse. We had our Tucson towed to the dealership for repair as well as additional recall work under Campaign 952 for corrosion of the fuel band. We were contacted by the dealership on 8/22/24 and told that the new subframe could not be installed as the corrosion was so severe, the body mounts had also corroded away so there was nothing to attach the new subframe to. The dealership advised us that our Tucson is now totaled and it is SOLELY due to corrosion that Hyundai has been aware of and has been subject to multiple class action lawsuits over it. This is absolutely unacceptable. This car is still in perfect mechanical condition and the exterior has absolutely ZERO rust but now it can no longer be driven due to Hyundai’s shoddy subframes.

2007 Hyundai Tucson recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2007 Hyundai Tucson.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.
- Consequence: ANY OF THESE MALFUNCTIONS COULD LEAD TO A CRASH.

I test drove around 7 different vehicles from my list (I did some research before shopping) and kept coming back to the Tucson. It had everything I was looking for. It was small, stylish, and had plenty of get up and go. I test drove both the 4cyl and 6cyl versions and was impressed with both. I was lucky enough to find a great deal on a 2007 Limited model. It has all the bells and whistles I could ever want. If you're considering an SUV, don't dismiss the Tucson just because it's a 'Hyundai.' It's the smoothest riding, zippy, and most fun to drive car I've ever had. The only downside is that it's not the most fuel-efficient car out there, so if you're concerned about today's gas prices, this might not be the best choice for you. On average, I get around 18.6 miles per gallon, which is good compared to the sticker price, but with gas prices at $4 per gallon, it's something to keep in mind.
-
I spent a year searching for the perfect Mini SUV and test drove several models including the Ford Escape, Explorer, Saturn Vue, Suzuki, and Chevrolet Equinox. However, the Tucson's exceptional features and quality, not to mention its reasonable pricing, made it the clear winner. If you're looking for great value for your money, I highly recommend giving it a test drive. Unfortunately, some American car makers still haven't caught up with this level of quality. Personally, I like to drive my vehicles for 10-12 years and with proper care, I expect them to last. Thankfully, Hyundai builds a solid product that I'm confident will last me for many years to come.
-
The performance of Tucson is great and its interior is nice and comfortable. All in all, it's two thumbs up!
-
What can I say? It's not too big and not too small, it's just right for me and my family (which includes 5, lol). We are all very happy with it - its look, value, power, and money savings.
-
I just traded in my Ford Ranger and wow, what a difference! This little ride is surprisingly spacious. The fuel economy is decent, and the included six-speaker stereo is fantastic. To top it off, it looks pretty good in my driveway. I really appreciate the plethora of included features. All in all, I feel great about my purchase and would definitely recommend this vehicle to others.

I recently purchased a 2007 Tuscon for its fuel economy, switching from my 2003 Chrysler Town and Country Limited. So far, I am enjoying the car. However, I noticed that my speedometer was off by 3-5 miles, which was a bit disappointing. I took it to the Hyundai dealership since it is still under the manufacturer's warranty, but was informed that this is normal according to the manual and cannot be fixed. This was surprising to me since I have never experienced this issue with any of my previous vehicles. I hope Hyundai can address this in the future. Overall, I am satisfied with my Tuscon and its fuel efficiency.

Over the past 8 months, we have unfortunately experienced some issues with our Tuscon. It has required a new power steering pump due to some concerning noises, and we have also had to deal with some factory recalls. While we have had to spend some unplanned time at the dealer, we are grateful for their assistance. We do have some concerns about the gas mileage, which is not as efficient as we had hoped. However, we are still able to enjoy our backpacking trips with peace of mind knowing that we have a reliable vehicle. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
