After 2000, the four-door Escort was moved primarily to fleet sales (with the coupe remaining available); production ended entirely after the 2002 model year. In contrast to the first-generation American Escort and Escort Mk III of Ford of Europe (and the Mondeo/Contour and Mercury Mystique), the Focus adopted a much larger degree of commonality between its European and North American variants, in effect, becoming the original world car Ford had originally envisioned with the Escort.
During its entire production, the Escort was produced by Wayne Stamping & Assembly in (Wayne, Michigan) and the first generation was also produced by Edison Assembly in (Edison, New Jersey), San Jose Assembly Plant in (Milpitas, California), and Oakville Assembly in (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) while the second and third generations were also produced by Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly in (Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico).

- Summary: THE OFFSET TOE ADJUSTING PIN CAN FRACTURE UNDER CONDITIONS SUCH AS TORSIONAL LOADS, FLEXING MOTION, IMPACT LOADS, AND OVERTORQUING.
- Consequence: THIS CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE STEERING CONTROL ANDAN ACCIDENT.
- Remedy: DANA WILL PAY FOR REPLACEMENT AND LABOR COSTS OF THE ADJUSTMENT PIN WITHOUT CHARGE TO THE INSTALLING FACILITY AND THE VEHICLE OWNER. THESE PINS SHOULD BE REPLACED BY A FORD ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT PIN ASSEMBLY. OWNER OR INSTALLER INQUIRIES CONCERNING THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN SHOULD CONTACT DANA SERVICE CENTER AT 1-800-248-9606.

- Consequence: SHOULD A CRACK DEVELOP, FUEL VAPOR CAN ESCAPE FROM THETANK WHEN THE TANK IS FULL, AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL CAN LEAK FROM THE CRACK.FUEL LEAKS CAN RESULT IN FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
- Remedy: INSTALL A NEW FUEL PUMP SENDING ASSEMBLY.

- Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN FOLLOWING MOTORISTS NOT BEINGSIGNALED THAT THE VEHICLE IS BRAKING, AND COULD RESULT IN A COLLISION.
- Remedy: REPLACE THE FAULTY STOP LAMP SWITCHES.

I love that you can even fit your bicycles in the back, including your recumbent! I bought my Escort from a family friend and have had it for 6 years. It has nearly 193,000 miles on it, but it's still ticking! In the 6 years that I've had it, I've only had to do regular tune-ups and change out the timing belt, water pump, and transmission. Not bad at all!

This is by far the best car I have ever owned. I have owned many cars in my time, but I enjoyed this one the most. In 8 years and 89000 miles, I never had to do any repairs to this car, only normal wear and tear items. I regret ever trading it in. I am looking today to buy another one. It will be hard to find a clean one, but it will be worth it. If you are looking and find one, buy it! It is well worth the value, especially if it is clean.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some information about my car with you. I acquired it back in '99 and have been driving it an average of 25,000 miles per year. It's amazing to think that by the end of '03, it will have 200,000 miles on it! The best part is that it's all original, except for the air filter, belts, and water pump. I've thought about replacing some of the other parts, like the plugs, wires, and sensors, but it's still running great and getting an average of 35 mpg (and 40.8 on trips). Can you believe it? This car mostly sees highway miles, but I do take it to the local drag strip every once in a while. Thanks for listening!

I had to replace the original engine at 100K. Unfortunately, the head warped on this new engine when the heater core, the fan, and thermostat all went out, leaving me without AC and heat. Additionally, the gas tank cracked and had to be replaced, and the driver's side seatbelt motor locked up mid-track. I have done extensive front-end work, but unfortunately, oil has leaked out all over the floorboard. The sun visors both broke off, and there are no left-side speakers. Currently, the UV joint, transmission, clutch, or something else is about to go out. If you're interested in purchasing this car, please let me know.

I recently got rid of my 1992 Ford Escort LX with an automatic transmission. Unfortunately, my wife burned out the transmission, but it had served us well with 118,000 miles on it. I originally purchased it for my college commutes and it was perfect for that. I have always loved hatchbacks and this car was no exception. It got me through cold winters and blistering hot summers. I decided to let it go because the cost of a rebuilt transmission was more than the car was worth. Instead, I gave it to my father-in-law who fixed the transmission and is now driving it again.

Your Ford Escort Pony is a reliable car that has never let you down when you needed it. Although there have been some issues with malfunctioning automatic seatbelts, failing gas and unreliable temperature gauges, the car still operates fine and is a fun car to drive. The 5-speed transmission is great, but the clutch could be improved.

Hi there! I'm actually the second owner of this car. My aunt was the first owner and she took excellent care of it. When I turned 16, she passed it down to me. At first, everything was great, but unfortunately, we've had to replace the alternator three times now and it looks like we'll have to do it again soon. The alternator has been draining the battery, so we've had to replace that a few times as well. Other than that, I haven't had any major issues with the car.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my new car. I recently got it with 120k miles on it. While my previous car, a 1984 Ford Thunderbird, had over 200 horsepower, I was pleasantly surprised by the Escort's 88 horsepower. It's more than enough to zip around town! Overall, I give this car two thumbs up.
