Common 2000 Isuzu Isuzu truck problems
The Isuzu Rodeo is a popular model of SUV, but like any vehicle, it can have its share of problems. Here are some of the most commonly reported issues with the Isuzu Rodeo, based on complaints from owners of this car:
Engine Failure
One of the most common problems reported with the Isuzu Rodeo is engine failure. This issue affects nearly every model year, but the 2002 model in particular has received the most complaints from users. The Rodeo’s 3.2-liter V6 engine is known to consume large amounts of motor oil, which can lead to a lack of oil lubrication and permanent engine damage. One CarComplaints user has reported hearing knocking sounds while the engine was running, which was caused by an unlubricated piston. A lack of motor oil can also lead to overheating, which can disable important safety features such as air bags, power steering, and power braking. Despite the high frequency of this issue, Isuzu hasn’t issued any recalls for engine failure in the Rodeo, so potential repairs will have to be shouldered by the owner.
Air Bag Problems
Isuzu has issued a recall for certain 2000 Isuzu Rodeo models due to faulty air bag modules. According to the recall, the passenger-side air bag may not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the passenger. Owners of affected vehicles should contact their local Isuzu dealer to have the issue addressed.
Power Loss
Another common problem reported with the Isuzu Rodeo is power loss. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty injectors, a failing fuel pump, or a damaged intake manifold gasket. In some cases, the check engine light may also come on. If your Rodeo is experiencing power loss, it’s important to have it inspected by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
Oil Leaks
Isuzu is aware of an oil leak issue affecting the Rodeo, which is caused by a faulty front crankshaft oil seal. A revised design is available to fix the issue, which involves replacing the front oil seal retainer gasket. If you notice spots of oil on the road where you’ve parked, it’s likely that your Rodeo is leaking oil and should be inspected by a mechanic.
Rattling Noises
Rattling noises are a common problem reported with the Isuzu Rodeo, particularly from the engine valve train area. This issue is often caused by a varnish build-up in the hydraulic lash adjusters, which can be resolved by using a higher quality oil. If you hear rattling noises coming from your Rodeo’s engine, it’s important to have it inspected by a mechanic to prevent further damage.
Rough Idling
Rough idling is another common problem reported with the Isuzu Rodeo, which is often caused by a damaged intake manifold gasket. If your Rodeo is idling roughly, it’s important to have it inspected by a mechanic as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
Fuel Pump Failure
Fuel pump failure is a common problem reported with the Isuzu Rodeo, which can cause a variety of issues, including starting problems and excessive fuel use. If you suspect that your Rodeo’s fuel pump is failing, it’s important to have it inspected by a mechanic as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
4WD Indicator Staying On
If the 4WD indicator on your Isuzu Rodeo stays on even when you’re in 2WD, it’s likely that one of the vacuum hoses, solenoids, or engine valves has developed a fault and will need to be replaced. You can find replacements for the faulty part in the BreakerYard store.
Differential Leaking
If you notice oil weeping or leaking out from underneath your Isuzu Rodeo, it’s likely that the differential is leaking. This issue can be resolved by replacing the differential, which will stop the leak and resolve the issue.
Blower Motor Resistor
If your Isuzu Rodeo’s blower motor is not pushing air, it could be due to a faulty blower motor resistor
. This issue can be diagnosed by testing the blower motor wires, which can be done quickly and easily using a test light. If the resistor is found to be faulty, it can be replaced to fix the issue.
In conclusion, while the Isuzu Rodeo is a popular model of SUV, it can have its share of problems. If you own a Rodeo, it’s important to be aware of these common issues and to have your vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic if you notice any of these symptoms. With regular maintenance and prompt repairs, you can keep your Rodeo running smoothly for years to come.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-01-21
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: BROUGHT IN MY 2000 ISUZU RODEO TO A DEALERSHIP ON 01/21/11 DUE TO A SAFETY RECALL WHICH WAS ISSUED IN OCT,2010. ADVISED THAT INSTALLING THE NEW RECALL PART WOULD BE POINTLESS DUE TO RUST ON THE FRAME OF THE RODEO. ADVISED THAT MY RODEO WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO EXTENT OF RUST AND WAS ADVISED OF NUMEROUS HOLES IN THE FRAME. FURTHER RESEARCH SHOWED THIS IS A MORE THAN COMMON ISSUE PERTAINING TO THE ISUZU RODEO. ON 01/26/11 I WAS ADVISED BY ISUZU DEALERSHIP THAT ISUZU WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BUT INSTEAD WAS REFERRED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. WAS INFORMED OF AN ADDITIONAL OPTION WHICH I WAS TOLD ISUZU WOULD BUY BACK THE CAR FOR THE COST OF THE BRACKET AND REPAIRS. *TR
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-12-29
- VIN: JACDJ58X9Y7
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: IN DECEMBER, 2005, I NOTICED THAT MY ENGINE WAS KNOCKING. UPON ARRIVING HOME, I CHECKED THE OIL. IT WAS BONE DRY. I HAD JUST REPLACED THE OIL 4,500 MILES BEFORE, AND CHECKED THE OIL 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS PROBLEM. I REPLACED THE OIL AND THOUGHT ALL WAS WELL. I WENT TO WORK THE NEXT DAY, AND STILL HAD A MINOR KNOCKING. AFTER LEAVING WORK, I WENT TO GET GAS. UPON ENTERING THE GAS STATION, MY TROOPER SHUT DOWN. WHEN I RE-STARTED THE TROOPER, THE ENGINE HAD AN EXTREME POUNDING. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. RIGHT AWAY, WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE ENGINE, MY MECHANIC TOLD ME I HAD BLOWN MY ENGINE. WHEN I ASKED HIM HOW HE COULD TELL BE JUST SIMPLY LISTENING TO THE ENGINE, HE HAD TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN ENOUGH OF THE TROOPERS AND RODEOS TO KNOW THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE TROOPER TOWED TO THE LOCAL ISUZU DEALER. THEY WANTED PROOF THAT I CHANGED THE OIL IN MY TROOPER EVERY 3,000 MILES (I NEVER KEPT RECEIPTS). PLUS, THE ISUZU TROOPER OWNERS MANUAL CLEARLY STATES OIL SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY 7,500, EXCEPT UNDER EXTREME DRIVING CONDITIONS. MY TROOPER WAS NEVER DRIVEN IN EXTREME CONDITIONS. AFTER A WEEK OR SO, THE SERVICE MANAGER OFFERED TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE COST OF A NEW ENGINE ($7,400 TOTAL COST OF NEW ENGINE). I TOLD HIM THAT I AM NOT ACCEPTING THIS OFFER, BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD, OR WHO ARE HAVING, THE SAME PROBLEM. PLUS, THE LOCAL ISUZU DEALER NEVER EVEN TORE THE ENGINE DOWN TO LOOK FOR THE PROBLEM, OR WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED IT. HOW CAN HE HAVE OFFERED TO PAY HALF OF THE COST OF A NEW ENGINE WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE INSIDE ON MY TROOPER. I'LL TELL YOU WHY, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THERE ARE, AND HAVE BEEN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES. I THEN CALLED THE CONSUMER SERVICE DEPT. OF ISUZU AMERICA. THEY COULD HAVE CARED LESS WHAT MY PROBLEM WAS. SO HERE I AM WITH A 2000 ISUZU TROOPER, THAT ONLY HAS 49,000 MILES ON IT WITH A BLOWN ENGINE, AND I STILL OWE $13,000 ON THE VEHICLE. *NM
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-12-07
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: I PURCHASED A 2000 ISUZU TROOPER IN EARLY 2005. IT HAD 32,000 MILES ON IT. AT APPROX 49,000 MILES, WITHOUT WARNING, MY ENGINE STARTED TO KNOCK LOUDLY. I PULLED OVER, CHECKED THE OIL, AND IT WAS BONE DRY. I FILLED UP THE OIL, AND PROCEEDED HOME. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO WORK. WHEN LEAVING WORK, I ENTERED A GAS STATION, AND THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN. UPON RE-STARTING THE TRUCK, THERE WAS A VERY, VERY LOUD KNOCKING. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL GARAGE. THEY TOLD ME I THREW A ROD AND WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL ISUZU DEALER, AND ASKED THEM WHAT THEY PLAN ON DOING ABOUT THIS. AFTER INVESTIGATION, THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT MAY 2005. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED DECEMBER 05. THEY SAID THEY AGREE TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE COST OF AN ENGINE. ENGINE AND LABOR WOULD COST $7,400, SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $3,200. I TOLD THEM THIS WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH SINCE I KEPT EXCELLENT CARE OF THE TRUCK AND CHANGED MY OIL EVERY 4,000 - 4,500 MILES. I THEN CALLED ISUZU CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING, AND WERE VERY RUDE AND UNINTERESTED IN WHAT I HAD TO SAY. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO SOLD ME THE TROOPER, AND ASKED THEM ABOUT THE VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY REPLACE PARTS AND MAKE REPAIRS FOR CUSTOMERS ALL THE TIME, EVEN IF THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED OUT OF "GOOD FAITH". THEY SAID THAT IT KEEPS THE CUSTOMERS HAPPY AND KEEPS THEM RETURNING. THIS IS WHAT I HAD ASKED ISUZU TO DO, BUT AS STATED EARLIER, THEY REALLY HAD NO CONCERN FOR MY PROBLEM. I AM FINDING MANY OTHERS ON THE WEB THAT HAVE HAD, OR WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR RODEO'S OR TROOPERS. TOO MANY IN FACT, THAT I AM ALMOST CERTAIN THIS HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THIS BUY SEVERAL PEOPLE AS WELL. ALL I WANT IS MY TROOPER TO BE REPAIRED IN "GOOD FAITH" SO I CAN MOVE ON. HELP !!!*JB
