Common 2001 Infiniti I35 problems
The Infiniti i35, produced from 2002 to 2004, is known for several common issues that owners have reported over the years. While these issues may not affect all vehicles, they are worth noting for potential buyers.
One of the most significant issues with the 2002 Infiniti i35 is with the transmission. Many owners reported problems with the transmission, including slipping gears and rough shifting. Some owners even experienced complete transmission failure, which could be a costly repair. The transmission issues could be caused by a faulty solenoid, low transmission fluid levels, or a damaged torque converter. Regular maintenance and inspections of the transmission could help prevent these issues.
Another common issue with the 2002 Infiniti i35 is with the fuel system. Some owners reported problems with the fuel pump, which could cause the engine to stall or not start at all. The issue could also cause the car to stop running while driving, which could be dangerous. The fuel pump could be replaced, but it was a costly repair that could be avoided with regular maintenance of the fuel system.
The 2002 Infiniti i35 also had some reported issues with the air conditioning system. Some owners reported that the air conditioning would stop working, which could be frustrating during the hot summer months. The issue could be caused by a faulty compressor or a refrigerant leak. Regular maintenance of the air conditioning system could help prevent these issues.
Finally, some owners reported problems with the power steering system in the 2002 Infiniti i35. The power steering pump could fail, causing a loss of power steering and making it difficult to steer the car. The issue could also be caused by a damaged power steering hose or low power steering fluid levels. Regular maintenance and inspections of the power steering system could help prevent these issues.
In addition to these specific issues, some owners have reported various electrical, suspension, brake, exhaust, and cooling system problems with the Infiniti i35. While these issues may not be as common as the ones mentioned above, they are still worth noting for potential buyers. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to any issues that arise can help keep the car running smoothly for years to come.
Does the Infiniti I35 have a VQ engine?
The 3.5-liter V6 is part of the VQ engine series that has won acclaim as one of the “Ten Best Engines” from Ward's Auto World magazine for nine consecutive years.
Is the Infiniti I35 the same as a Nissan Maxima?
Even though it's a "Nissan", the brand MAXIMA is 100x stronger than I-30/35. Infiniti as a whole is seen as a 2nd tier luxury brand. Yes the I35 offers slightly more luxurious features, but the Maxima matches most. Overall, looking as sales, it is obvious a Maxima is seen as a better car than a I-35.
What was the last year of the Infiniti I35?
2004
Likely due to redundancy and INFINITI's move away from front-wheel drive cars, the 2004 model year was the final appearance of the I35 sedan.
How fast is the Infiniti I35?
With a curb weight of 3,342 pounds, it made the 0-60 sprint in a shade over seven seconds, without undue urging.

- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback, 2001-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2002-2003 Inifiniti QX4, 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 and 2006-2010 M35 and M45 vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators with alternate desiccated inflators, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 888-737-9511 or Infiniti customer service at 888-810-3715.

- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TRANSVERSE LINKS ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES WITH NEW ONES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 29, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.
