2008 Hyundai Tucson problems
The Hyundai Tucson (/ˈtuːsɒn/; Korean: 현대 투싼) is a compact crossover SUV produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai. It is named after the city of Tucson, Arizona. It was originally known as the Hyundai JM when it was introduced in Japan in 2004.
The second-generation model was marketed as the Hyundai ix35 in several markets, including Europe, Australia and China, before reverting to Tucson for the third generation. Since its first generation, the Tucson has been developed alongside the Kia Sportage, sharing platforms and engines.
The Tucson is the best-selling Hyundai SUV model, with more than 7 million units sold globally since it launched in 2004. Of these, 1.4 million units have been sold in Europe.
The fourth-generation model marked the switch to a mid-size car platform using the N3 platform which is shared with another three corporate siblings, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, the Hyundai Mufasa and the fourth-generation Kia Sorento. As of 2022, the Tucson is positioned between the Kona or Creta and the three-row Santa Fe in Hyundai's crossover SUV lineup.

AIR BAGS,WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-20
- Fire: 1
- VIN: KM8JN12D68U
- Components: AIR BAGS,WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: #1. The airbag light comes on saying the passenger airbag is not connected (something like that). #2. Braking lights did stop working and stayed on while the car was turned off. I never received any recall notice of this and we fixed it ourselves. #3. And most important and dangerous! The back driver's side wheel froze up and started to catch on fire. We had the Caliper, and several other surrounding parts changed and the master cylinder when it almost caught fire again. A mechanic could not figure it out. I did a lot of research and discovered the problems with the ABS, which I strongly believe this is the problem. I cannot drive it at all. The emergency brake is like mush and does not work at all. I have now read of these cars catching fire from the ABS and people have died! My car is a 2008 and not the year of the car that has been recalled. But my 2008 is doing the same thing. My special needs son and I could have been killed! Flaming red inside the tire area. We threw bottles of water on it so it wouldn't catch on fire and catch all the other cars and buildings on fire. Please help! Also, the ECS light comes on for no reason. I'm afraid of this car and I'm afraid to sell it to someone who may be killed by it. We thought we fixed this problem in 2020 but it started catching on fire again in 2022 and had not been driven since Aug. 2022 since the last fire flames and stinky smoke that comes out from the back tire area.
SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-29
- VIN: KM8JN12D08U
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I took the car to my mechanic to get brake pads because car was pulling to the left upon braking and he informed me the ABS module was bad and was not distributing brake fluid to the right front wheel. I called Customer Care Center for Hyundai and they informed me Tuscan models are not included in the ABS module recall event. Yet the information printed on all hyundai ABS recalls threaten a possible fire safety concern. I want to file a complaint because the ABS brake systems are all the same on all hyundai models. Please address my safety issue asap.

AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-11
- Number Of Injuries: 2
- Crash: 1
- VIN: KM8JM12B38U
- Components: AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: In October of 2020 I was pulling into a parking space and my car accelerated and crashed into a light pole resulting in injury to both my husband and myself. He is 91 years old and shattered his upper arm. We had the vehicle fixed and checked out and was told all was fine. About June of 2021 I took the car in for a recall on the brake lights to the Hyundai dealership and told them of the first incident and asked them to check and was told that all was fine. On December 23rd 2021, the same thing happened when I was pulling into my parking space at home. When it accelerated, I had both feet on the brake and ended up hitting a wall damaging the car again. Fortunately, this time injuries were minor. There were no warning lights, messages or symptoms before these two incidents happened. I am concerned that others will be put at risk if this happens again or to anyone else with one of these vehicles. I might add that with these accidents, the airbags did not deploy. The first was a significant crash which should have deployed the airbags.

INSTANTLY LOOK IN REARVIEW MIRROR THINKING SUNSHADE FLEW ONTO THE ROAD, BUT SAW NOTHING. THANK GOODNESS B/C THIS SITUATION COULD'VE BEEN SO MUCH WORSE THAN IT ALREADY IS. GO TO DEALERSHIP & WAS TOLD IT'S A RECALL PRODUCT & TOLD ME WHICH REPAIR SHOP TO GO TO. HEARD BACK FROM REPAIR SHOP NEXT DAY (3/29); THEY SAID I'D HAVE TO PAY $180 (PUTTING FABRIC ON SUNSHADE & SERVICE MAINTENANCE). I WAS SHOCKED B/C I WASN'T EXPECTING TO PAY FOR A RECALL PRODUCT. CALL WEBASTO TO SEE IF THEY'LL REIMBURSE ME & THEY SAID THEY ONLY COVER PARTS. THIS SHOULDN'T BE THE CASE; IT'S THEIR BAD PRODUCT & THEY NEED TO DO WHATEVER THEY CAN TO FIX IT. WAS ALSO INFORMED THE PARTS NEEDED TO BE ORDERED. FIND OUT TODAY THAT WEBASTO DIDN'T HAVE A PART & IT WOULDN'T GET TO THE REPAIR COMPANY UNTIL THURS (4/9) OR FRI (4/10) OF THIS WEEK. HAD TO GET A RENTAL CAR B/C I NEEDED TO TAKE CARE OF PERSONAL STUFF & I COULDN'T KEEP INCONVENIENCING FRIENDS. CALLED WEBASTO HOPING THEY COULD AT LEAST REIMBURSE ME FOR A RENTAL CAR (WAIT TIME WAS ON THEM). THEY ALREADY WOULDN'T COVER THE COST FOR THE $180. WELL, THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T REIMBURSE ME FOR THE RENTAL. CHECKED W/ MY INSURANCE CO. & THEY WOULDN'T EITHER. IT'S GOING ON 10 DAYS NOW W/O MY CAR & I PROBABLY WON'T GET IT BACK UNTIL FRI (4/10) OR MON (4/12), WHICH WOULD PUT ME AT 13-16 DAYS. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT BEING TAKEN CARE OF IN A TIMELY MANNER. I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND MY FRUSTRATION. I FEEL LIKE I'M BEING BLAMED SINCE I'M HAVING TO SPEND $380 ALL B/C THE PRODUCT WAS DEFECTED TO BEGIN WITH; NONE OF THIS WAS MY FAULT. I'D BE APPRECIATIVE IF THE COST OF MY RENTAL CAR & REPAIR SHOP FEE BE REIMBURSED TO ME. I DON'T FEEL LIKE THAT'S TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR, AS THIS IS A HUGE INCONVENIENCE. *TR

2008 Hyundai Tucson recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2008 Hyundai Tucson.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

You'll enjoy as much legroom as a Ford Explorer, but with much better fuel economy...

I've only owned this vehicle for a couple of months and I'm very pleased with it. This is actually my very first SUV. My sister owns a Sonata and my dad owns a 2007 Tucson and I've never heard them complain, so I decided to get one for myself. Although my Tucson is a 2.0L 4-cyl, I still like it. However, I do wish it could do better on gas.
-
I love the way my new SUV handles! The gas mileage is pretty good, 28 on the highway and 22 around town. It's extremely comfortable and roomy, and offers a lot for the price. I especially like the tinted windows in the back, the seats that fold down, and the window in the way back that can open without opening the hatch back. The only thing I wish I could have gotten is four wheel drive, but overall I don't have any dislikes. Plus, the warranty is fantastic!
-
I drove a 6cyl and then a 4 cyl and I noticed very little difference in performance. The car has ample space inside, great controls and features. I really appreciate the safety features such as traction and stability control, as well as all the airbags. During my first weekend cruise, I got over 24 mpg, with a mixed bag of in-town and freeway driving at 75+. I will update in the future. I would like to see more cubby holes for things like cell phones.
-
I just got my Tuscon and love it so far. I've heard some complaints about the mileage, but honestly, I just want to drive it everywhere, even if I don't have anywhere to go. It's just so nice to drive! So if I'm using more gas, it's because I'm enjoying the ride.

I recently decided to switch from a pickup truck to a more practical vehicle and after considering the RAV4 and CRV, I ultimately chose the Hyundai Tucson due to its affordable price and impressive warranty. I have found that American-made cars no longer meet my needs. The Tucson is incredibly spacious, comfortable, and offers great handling and visibility. While the 4c engine may seem a bit noisy and underpowered compared to my wife's 4c Accord, it is more than sufficient for my needs. Although I was hoping for better gas mileage than the current 24 mpg, I am optimistic that it may improve over time. One downside to the vehicle is the light-colored interior, which can be difficult to keep clean. In hindsight, I should have considered this before making my purchase. I have always preferred dark-colored carpets and car interiors as they tend to hide dirt and stains better. However, seat covers and mats have helped to mitigate this issue.

During the week of April 1, I noticed that my car was giving me a bumpy ride, like a roller coaster, tossing me up and down, back and forth, and side to side. The seat wasn't absorbing the shock, nor was it adjusting for my comfort. Then came the shocker: the car's right back wheel seemed to slide to the right, bumped, then righted itself. I was instantly knocked to the right and then back to center. This action takes less than a second and seems to happen on an uneven indentation, ridge, or something in the road. This happens out of the blue, and I don't feel safe. I notified Robert Lawson of my unhappiness with the seat and the rough ride.

I really enjoyed the overall style of this compact crossover, both inside and out. The controls and A/C were simple to use, and the price was very reasonable. The medium gray interior was a nice touch, and it's becoming harder to find nowadays. The ride was decent when I first purchased it, and the gear shifter was the best I've ever seen. I also appreciated the front air vents that could be aimed at your knees, which is a rare feature in most cars these days. The dual cup holders between the shifter and middle armrest were perfectly placed, and the actual cup holders in the doors were a nice touch as well. The windshield was also easy to clean without needing a step stool. However, as the tires lost tread, the ride did get a bit harsher. Additionally, the cargo space was on the smaller side, so it wasn't ideal for long family trips. There was also quite a bit of road noise, and the car would start to lean while cornering on sharp turns. One thing to note is that the steering wheel would get really light when driving above 72 Mph, which was a bit concerning. The dealership also didn't do a great job with the front wheel alignments during a long drive, which was frustrating. Unfortunately, there was no backup monitor offered, which would have been a helpful addition. In the hot summer sun, the cloth door inserts would come loose, but they would tighten up again when the temperature cooled down. The car also had a tendency to kick itself out of cruise control when going up steep hills on the highway, which was a bit annoying. Lastly, if you're over 5 foot 8 inches, you might hit your head when getting into the car. Overall, it was a friendly and approachable car, but it did have a few minor issues that could be improved upon.Bottom line - this car is best suited for city driving with just adequate V6 power. It was intended to be a single person's car, so I wouldn't recommend towing or carrying heavy loads with it.

This car has had several issues, including needing to replace the clutch, power steering, and alternator before reaching 40,000 miles. Additionally, there was an electrical fire and the car is not comfortable to drive, especially for someone of my height. The airbags are also a concern as they are located in a small space and could cause injury in the event of an accident. Two of the doors do not lock, even manually, and the power mirrors have stopped working. The steering is also difficult. It is important to note that there have been 5 recall letters for this car.
