2007 Buick Rendezvous problems
The Buick Rendezvous is a mid-size crossover SUV that was sold by Buick for the 2002–2007 model years. Introduced in the spring of 2001, the Buick Rendezvous and its corporate cousin, the Pontiac Aztek, were GM's first entries into the crossover SUV segment. The Rendezvous featured a four-speed automatic transmission with a V6 engine and optional all-wheel-drive (Versatrak). The SUV used the same platform as GM's short-wheelbase minivans, the Chevrolet Venture and Pontiac Montana. The Rendezvous provided a passenger- and load-carrying capacity not seen in the Buick lineup since the discontinuation of the Buick Roadmaster Estate station wagon in 1996.
Technology and notable features
It was Buick's first truck in its lineup since 1923, and the Rendezvous was billed as a combination of the best attributes of a minivan (large cargo capacity, seating for up to seven), a luxury automobile (ride, handling, smoothness) and a sport utility vehicle (truck styling and available all wheel drive).
The Rendezvous was produced at General Motors' Ramos Arizpe, Mexico assembly plant, where it shared an assembly line with the Pontiac Aztek. Like the Pontiac Aztek, the Buick Rendezvous is based on a shortened version of GM's second generation U platform minivans. In lieu of four-wheel drive, the Rendezvous offered Versatrak, a full-time, fully automatic all-wheel drive system which provided sure-footed traction in inclement weather and could handle moderate off-road surfaces.
Buick benchmarked their Park Avenue sedan as the prototypical target for ride and handling for the Rendezvous. In order to provide a luxurious and responsive car-like ride, all Rendezvous came equipped with a fully independent rear suspension system regardless of optional content or trim level.
The Rendezvous' instrument cluster detailing featured teal illuminated needles and numbers set in a silver face accented by chrome trim rings that was meant to evoke the luxurious look and feel of an expensive watch or designer bracelet. On the uplevel CXL model, a driver information center on the instrument panel provided the outside temperature, compass functions, a trip computer that included readings of fuel economy, range and fuel used. An optional second generation heads-up display was also available. This was also available in the CX model. An optional tire inflation monitoring system provided readings of tire pressure and warned if out of the specified range.
The Rendezvous boasted the ability to carry seven passengers when equipped with a third-row bench, a class-leading feature that Buick brought to market before its competitors, and was able to carry within its interior a standard 4 x 8' sheet of plywood.
In support of the Rendezvous' intended role as a versatile accoutrement for busy people with families, it provided a center console with storage space and power points for a laptop computer as well as a separate spots to hold a purse, a cell phone, pager or other small items that the owner would want to keep organized and readily accessible as well as an optional rear cargo organizer system and rear seat stereo system controls with headsets.

Common 2007 Buick Rendezvous problems
The Buick Rendezvous, produced from 2002 to 2007, is known for several common problems that can affect its drivability and reliability. One of the most frequently reported issues is poor handling, with many owners complaining about excessive bouncing and a lack of stability. This can be particularly problematic in certain driving situations, such as pushing the vehicle harder or going off-road, where competitors may feel more athletic and stable.
Another common problem area is the transmission. Some 2002-2007 automatic transmission Rendezvous models have experienced erratic shifting or slamming into gear due to a faulty transmission pressure control solenoid. This can result in the vehicle jerking, popping, and producing loud noises. In some cases, the transmission may get stuck between gears. Experts recommend a partial disassembly of the transmission to replace the failed pressure control solenoid.
Gasket leaks have also been a common problem in many 2002-2007 Buick Rendezvous models. Owners of affected vehicles have reported engine overheating and an illuminated temperature warning light, even with sufficient coolant in the reservoir. This issue can be caused by a leaking intake manifold gasket, which can mix with engine oil and cause severe engine damage if left unaddressed. The cost of replacing an intake manifold gasket can range from $25 to $100, plus labor costs.
Some 2002-2007 Rendezvous redesigns have had cases of an illuminated check engine light due to a loose or worn gas cap. This may result in idling problems due to insufficient fuel system pressure. A loose or worn gas cap can also contaminate the fuel, altering the fuel injection pressure and potentially clogging the engine’s fuel delivery system. Fortunately, this problem may only require a quick and easy fix with a replacement gas cap, which can cost between $25 and $50 on parts alone.
In addition to these common problems, the 2005 Buick Rendezvous has been noted for several specific issues, including wheel bearings, intake gaskets, and transmission problems. Consumer Reports heavily favors imports and suggests that the car's discontinuation in 2007 may be a red flag. However, some owners have expressed their love for the Rendezvous and would buy another if they could.
In summary, the Buick Rendezvous has several common problems that can affect its drivability and reliability. These issues include poor handling, transmission problems, gasket leaks, and gas cap-related engine problems. While some owners have expressed their love for the Rendezvous, it is important for potential buyers to be aware of these common issues and consider having the vehicle inspected before making a purchase.
What is the most common problem with the Buick Rendezvous?
Top Buick Rendezvous issues include erratic shifting, intake manifold leaks, worn gas caps, and fuel pump failure.
Why was the Buick Rendezvous discontinued?
The Rendezvous was later discontinued due to a drop in sales and replaced by the slightly larger Buick Enclave CUV which also replaced the Rainier and Terraza.
Are Buick Rendezvous good on gas?
EPA fuel economy estimates are a respectable 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway.
Is a 2005 Buick Rendezvous a good vehicle?
Edmunds says
The Rendezvous is a well-rounded family vehicle with plenty of space for passengers and cargo. However, with no genuine off-road ability and less convenience than a minivan, it doesn't quite live up to its billing as the ultimate crossover vehicle.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it new and have already put 10000 miles on it. The best part? It's been trouble-free! I love how much cargo room it has, especially with the 3rd row folded. It's almost as versatile as a minivan! Plus, the car is incredibly quiet and comfortable. Thanks for listening!

We recently traded in our trusty 2002 Impala for the Buick to accommodate more space and pull our small boat trailer. Overall, we are pleased with our purchase. However, we have noticed that the stereo system is not up to our standards and we plan to replace it. We did experience a stall in traffic once, which was concerning, but we are hopeful that it was just a one-time occurrence. Considering that we purchased an off-lease car, we feel that we got a great deal for our money. The vehicle's mileage is averaging 20mpg overall, which is impressive for its size and weight.

I really fell in love with the style of the SUV. I upgraded from a Vue to a Rendezvous, which is much roomier. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it. Whenever it rains, water runs in through the dashboard. I've had the driver's side fixed, but I've had to go back twice for the passenger side. Additionally, the battery light keeps coming on, and I'm waiting to get that fixed. The passenger window also cracked due to a factory defect, and I'm waiting for that part. The ceiling panel was also hanging, but I got that fixed. Despite these issues, I still love the car. However, I do wish that the driver's seat was more adjustable to move back further. The back seat is very roomy and comfortable, and it even reclines. Overall, I would definitely consider buying this car again, but I hope they address the water problem.

I was considering leasing a Honda mini van, but after test driving the Buick, I was sold. The ride, handling, interior, radio, and seating with the second row buckets are all superior to the Honda, and at a lower price. I've been extremely happy with my purchase in the first month. The 48-month/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and the 60-month/100,000-mile warranty provide peace of mind, although I am slightly concerned about resale value since the model will not be continued in 2008.

My wife fell in love with it and I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant at first. However, after driving it for a while, I have been completely converted. It is truly a great all-around vehicle. We have owned 7 different SUV's in the past, but this one has the smoothest ride by far. We have put 5,000 miles on it and have not experienced a single problem. It's a shame that GM is discontinuing this model, as they really got it right. They are replacing it with a completely different vehicle, but we will always have fond memories of this one.

I also had a 2005 Rendezvous and I must say, it was pretty much the same as the 2007 model, but with much better gas mileage. With all the incentives offered, it was impossible not to buy one. The Buick Rendezvous is a comfortable ride and offers much better quality than anything else out there for the money. It's a shame they decided to drop it in 2007. Instead of keeping it and improving it, they came out with the Enclave, which is a nice ride but unfortunately out of my price range. I am currently looking at the 2010 Equinox, which offers 32 mpg. I might have to trade in my Rendezvous!!

We have had some issues with this vehicle. The fuel economy has been averaging 16 mpg with a mix of highway and city driving, which is not ideal. Additionally, my husband is 6'4 and when he is driving, my children have limited legroom in the back seat. Unfortunately, a car seat is not an option behind him. We have the split reclining middle row, which may be contributing to the issue. Despite these challenges, we are making it work. We have had a few minor problems, but they were promptly addressed by the service team. Although we have not had a chance to bring it in for additional servicing, we are managing with the noisy turns, poor gas mileage, poor legroom for children, and the interior roof coming apart in the back. We have noticed that the rear seat belts sometimes end up under the folding seat, which can be a bit tricky to retrieve. Overall, we are doing our best to make the most of this vehicle.

I'm so glad I gave this Buick a chance after driving my friend's Lexus SUV. To my surprise, we actually like it much better! Although the dashboard is a bit plain, we were able to improve it by adding a wood grain kit. We've put over 27,000 miles on it and the only real issue we've had is with the radio, which unfortunately hasn't been resolved after three visits to the dealer. The gas mileage isn't great for a small V-6, only about 15mpg in town and 22 on the road, which is at least 5mpg less than our Impala with a similar engine. However, the Buick tows our small boat effortlessly, there's plenty of room with the seats folded down, and so far it's been very reliable. Plus, the 100,000 mile warranty gives us great peace of mind.
Milford Mann 2024-06-24
I think the car is very pretty. I've owned one for 15 years since I bought it new. Unfortunately, my 2007 model has a factory defect that causes water to come up inside the car and spray all over when it rains. This has caused breathing problems for both me and my husband due to the mold that forms. Buick has not taken any action to fix the issue, so if you notice any water stains in the upper right corner of the headliner, it's best not to buy the car as the issue cannot be resolved. You don't want to end up with a moldy car to live with.

Congratulations on your purchase of the 07 Rendezvous! Although it's unfortunate that you experienced some issues with the car, I'm glad to hear that the dealership was able to help you out. Despite some initial difficulty in convincing them of the issue, they were able to diagnose and fix the problem with the alternator. Even when further issues arose with the power steering and water pump, the dealership went above and beyond to find a solution that worked for you, ultimately putting you in a new car. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
