2019 Honda Fit problems
The Honda Fit (Japanese: ホンダ・フィット, Hepburn: Honda Fitto) or Honda Jazz is a small car manufactured and marketed by Honda since 2001 over four generations. It has a five-door hatchback body style and is considered a supermini in the United Kingdom, a subcompact car in the United States, and a light car in Australia. Marketed worldwide and manufactured at ten plants in eight countries, sales reached almost 5 million by mid-2013. Honda uses the "Jazz" nameplate in Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia and India; and "Fit" in Japan, Sri Lanka, China, Taiwan and the Americas.
Sharing Honda's global small car platform with the City, Airwave, first-generation Mobilio, Freed and HR-V/Vezel, the Fit is noted for its one-box or monospace design; forward-located fuel tank; configurable seats that fold in several ways to accommodate cargo in varying shapes and sizes— and cargo volume competitive to larger vehicles.
Honda released hybrid petrol-electric versions of the Fit in Japan in October 2010 and in Europe in early 2011. In 2012, Honda released the Fit EV, a limited-production all-electric version based on the second-generation model in the United States and Japan, and was widely regarded as a compliance car.
The fourth-generation model released in 2019 is currently sold in Japan, Europe, China, Taiwan, South Africa, Brunei and Singapore. Starting from 2020, the model was phased out in most Southeast Asian and Latin American countries to be replaced by the larger City Hatchback, while it was withdrawn entirely from the North American market due to falling demand within the subcompact segment.

Common 2019 Honda Fit problems
The Honda Fit, known for its reliability, has some common problems that owners have reported, particularly in the 2007-2016 models. One such issue is ignition coil failure, which can lead to driveability problems such as stalling, loss of power, and stuttering. This issue is relatively widespread and may require coil pack replacements to resolve.
Another common problem is uncomfortable seats, which have been reported to cause neck and back pains due to their flat and unsupportive nature. Some owners have had to purchase seat cushions and headrests to alleviate this issue.
Starter failure has also been reported in the 2015 Fit, with difficulties starting intermittently around 46,000 miles. In some cases, drivers have used a jump start battery pack to get the engine running.
Fuel filler door issues have affected 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2014 Honda Fits, with the fuel door refusing to open. A revised fuel fill push lifter from Honda is required to fix this issue.
Transmission problems have been reported in some Honda Fit models, particularly the earlier ones (2007-2008), with harsh shifting or transmission failure being the main concerns.
Water leaks have been a problem in some Fits, especially in the 2009-2013 range, often due to issues with the door seals or the air conditioning system.
Dashboard warning lights have been an issue in the 2015-2016 models, often caused by electric power steering failure.
Although the Honda Fit is generally reliable, these common problems should be taken into consideration when purchasing a used model. Regular maintenance and inspections can help mitigate these issues and ensure a longer lifespan for the vehicle.
What is the most common problem with Honda Fit?
Many drivers have reported experiencing back and neck pain when driving their Honda Fit for long hours. Most point to the model's head restraints as the culprit because they're inclined forward, forcing the driver's head to tilt forward. Several drivers have also complained that the seats feel flat and unsupportive.
How many miles will a 2019 Honda Fit last?
With proper maintenance, a Honda Fit can last up to 200,000 to 300,000 miles without needing any major repairs. This translates to having a lifespan of 13 to 20 years. See also Front-Wheel Drive, Rear-Wheel Drive, or All-Wheel Drive?
Why was Honda Fit discontinued?
While the Honda Fit was a popular car for more than a decade, in the late 20-teens, sales started to decline. Eventually, Honda decided that it wasn't worth producing anymore. It should be noted, however, that the Honda Fit has remained in production in other countries; in many places, it's called the Honda Jazz.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-24
- VIN: 3HGGK5H48KM
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer and another dealer, Weir Canyon Honda (714-777-4100), were contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-09
- VIN: 3HGGK5H67KM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: When it gets cold, the odometer/gas gauge intermittently glitches. It might come back on or it might stay blank. If you cannot read your mileage, you can’t get accurate repair service. If you cannot read your gas gauge, you could break down on the highway because you ran out of gas and did not know it. This problem seems to occur across Honda Fits ranging from 2015-2020 and even Honda CR-Vs from a Google search. A few people have found that it has something to do with loose soldering which leads to improper expansion? This needs to be investigated and covered under a recall. Most people wouldn’t be able to afford thousands of dollars.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-10
- VIN: 3HGGK5H40KM
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: See Attached Letter
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-18
- VIN: 3HGGK5H48KM
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-20
- VIN: 3HGGK5H41KM
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: We just had the fuel injectors fail for the 2nd time on this car, which has about 85,000 miles on it. The fuel injectors were originally replaced in 2021 by the dealer and have once again failed according to the dealer’s diagnosis. Honda America’s extended warranty for some Fits for this same issue needs to be extended to other model years. It is unreasonable to have to replace fuel injectors twice within this short of a time span.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-17
- VIN: 3HGGK5H40KM
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Odometer/gas gauge screen goes blank or haywire
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-11
- VIN: 3HGGK5H68KM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: To whom it may concern, I am seeing a Failing Odometer Display in my 2019 Honda Fit. I've reported to both Dean Honda, and now Washington Honda here in Pennsylvania. Seems to be more prevalent in the morning, lasting anywhere between a few minutes or up to an hour. During this time, I either see just a backlight with Zero Information being Displayed or unidentifiable Hieroglyphics being displayed. I am unable to view Miles/gal, Time, Oil Life, Trip Odometer and the Odometer Reading. Which brings me to my next point, is the mileage actually being calculated while this display is either off or unreadable? Thank you kindly in advance for your time and consideration. It also seems as others are reporting this as well at least on Honda Forums, although there isn't a recall yet that covers this.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-15
- VIN: 3HGGK5H49KM
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-01
- VIN: 3HGGK5H64KM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The dashboard display that shows fuel gauge, mileage, and maintenance minders glitches. Frequently some components of the numbers and gauges aren't visible, while other times the display is completely blank. An unreliable fuel gauge is a safety issue if fuel runs out and disrupts traffic/causes an accident. Unknown maintenance needs can cause several electrical and mechanical safety issues. This glitch has been occurring for 4-5 months but has gotten more frequent and more persistent in the last several weeks. I have an inspection scheduled with the dealership.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-30
- VIN: 3HGGK5H80KM
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: All four fuel injectors have failed. Car only has 42,500 miles. Known issue and recall already in effect for previous years of same make and model
LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-31
- VIN: 3HGGK5H89KM
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: At 50,0341miles, after a routine B1 service (oil change and transmission) the LKAS, Brake system, road departure mitigation system, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beam assist lights all began to turn on every two to three times I turned on my car. These lights will light up on my dash and stay on for the entire drive (with the systems not working). Then they will not be on for a few drives. Then they will go on again. This is an intermittent problem and only happens every other time I start the car (so it appears the camera is “dying” or faulty, not damaged due to negligence.) I have not broken the windshield and have treated this car very well. With this camera breaking, I will lose the safety features included in my car until I can afford to pay the dealership $2000 to fix the camera in the windshield. I will no longer have cruise control (which I can live without), however I am concerned about the loss of the braking system and lane controls. This seems to be a known issue as there are many other Honda owners online dealing with similar issues around the same mileage in their cars with the same years (but many different model cars). Honda had no concern when I reached out to the dealership (who performed the original B1 service), and immediately knew what was wrong when I explained what lights went on, could tell me the cost of a camera replacement, and told me it was nothing they did during the service appointment I had with them. If they are truly having these cameras fail at a high rate at around 40k to 50k miles, it seems to be a larger issue that needs to be observed by the NHTSA. I am happy to have the system failure confirmed by the NHTSA. I have not had this confirmed by the dealership as I cannot honestly afford to do so on a teachers salary at this time. (It is $99 to confirm that the camera is breaking, which we already know is occurring due to the series of lights and current numerous reports online from other Honda owners and dealership).
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-17
- VIN: 3HGGK5H47KM
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, the manufacturer was unable to confirm when the part would be available. The failure mileage was 44,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-26
- VIN: 3HGGK5H45KM
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My car is 2019 Honda Fit (16500 mileage) Four dashboard warning signs (Check Engine Light, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Vehicle Stability Assist System, Electric Power Steering) appeared all at once suddenly on June 26, 2024. I went to the Honda dealer shop to fix it. First they changed spark plugs. After one-day driving it happened again. They changed fuel injectors. Then it happened again after one-day driving. I searched the web and found it is a common problem in Honda Fit. Some of 2019 Honda Fit has a extended warranty for fuel injection replacement, but it is not applicable to my car. Feels like there is no problem while driving with those 4 warning lights. But who knows some serious problems or accident will happen because of this problem.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-08
- VIN: 3HGGK5H67KM
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The fuel gauge fails to illuminate when the weather is cold ....faulty instrument design ....unable to know the amount of fuel in the vehicle
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-06
- VIN: 3HGGK5H85KM
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: Upon starting the car, all warning lights came on as disabled for the ACC/LKAS system and could not be reset by the driver. Mechanic shop stated that the battery was dying, needed replaced then driven 50 miles for the ACC/LKAS system to reset. A few weeks later there was no change. Independent mechanic stated that the error code "U300049 Multipurpose Camera Unit Internal Electronic Failure" was permanent and would need dealership assistance. Dealership stated that the camera system needed replaced and recalibrated to the tune of $1600. I find it extremely hard to believe this system failed by itself, rather was caused by bad design as this was a battery that needed replaced. Safety is at risk as the ACC/LKAS and automatic emergency braking systems were permanently disabled on the vehicle and cannot be used.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-12
- VIN: 3HGGK5H89KM
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-10
- VIN: 3HGGK5H87KM
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Fuel injector is going bad on my car at 80,000 miles causing catalytic converter to go bad based on two check engine codes. Recall done on 2015-2016 models so hoping this could be extended to 2019 as it seems they haven’t fixed the issue
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-01-01
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: Connected my cellphone and think a hacker is affecting auto systems: alternator not consistently charging (new battery & alternator checked good), lane assist turns off in curves & when wipers on, navigation system frozen on test screen (tried resetting pressing three buttons aslearned on youtube), display of % to next oil change frozen at 70%. Hoping there software upgrades.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-12
- VIN: 3HGGK5H45KM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Fuel Gauge Display is BLANK in temperatures below 40 degrees fahrenheit when engine starts. Mileage, Trip A/B, MPG calculation, fuel gauge, and MPG trip avg. do not come up for >20 minutes and often require reset of trip odometer. SAFETY ISSUE- FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT APPEAR UPON START OF VEHICLE ENGINE
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-22
- VIN: 3HGGK5H43KM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I bought this vehicle brand new in February of 2019. The right-hand side dashboard display does not work in cold weather and will eventually function when the interior of the car warms up. The right-hand side dashboard display contains vital safety related information, including the fuel gauge, servicing messages, and the odometer. When researching this issue on the internet, this is a common problem and is costly to repair. My vehicle is no longer under warranty and I do not want to incur the cost of repair. I am asking that a vehicle recall be instituted for 2019 Honda Fits regarding this safety related matter. As an aside, during my first year after purchasing this vehicle, when the vehicle was under warranty, the entire dashboard was flickering off and on and I immediately drove the vehicle to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. They kept the vehicle for over one week to repair but I incurred no cost for the repair because the vehicle was under warranty. These issues, as indicated above, appear to be systemic safety related concerns and Honda should be mandated to implement a recall so that these issues are repaired by Honda free of charge.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
- VIN: 3HGGK5H88KM
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
- VIN: 3HGGK5H60KM
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the condition of my vehicle, which I purchased new (0 miles) in June 2018 . I have encountered significant issues with the paint peeling and mold growth in various areas such as trunk, hood, fenders. It is distressing to note that despite regular maintenance and care, the paint has begun to peel off in several places, exposing the underlying surface and compromising the appearance of the vehicle. additionally , the presence of mold poses a health and safety risk, as mold spores can cause respiratory health issues . I believe these issues are indicative defective materials used in the manufacturing process. thank you for your attention
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-03-26
- VIN: 3HGGK5H81KM
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the "Lane Departure" warning light illuminated, and the vehicle independently steered to the left. The contact used force to jerk the steering wheel to the right. The contact stated that the Lane Departure warning light turned off once the vehicle was in a lane. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled intermittently. The contact stated that she had been left several times stranded on the road and required Roadside Assistance. The contact stated that Roadside Assistance was able to jumpstart the vehicle. The contact stated that she had the battery replaced three times. The contact stated that the failure was ongoing. Additionally, the Forward Collision Avoidance system activated erroneously. The contact stated that the brake warning would illuminate, and the vehicle would slow down independently with no vehicle or object in front of the vehicle. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where the dealer reset the warning lights on the instrument cluster. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
EQUIPMENT,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-30
- VIN: 3HGGK5H85KM
- Components: EQUIPMENT,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: See attached document for complaint
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-01
- VIN: 3HGGK5H40KM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Console display flickers with garbage characters (sometimes) or is blank (most times). This is a safety concern because: 1) a blank display prevents viewing of gas tank level, 2) the TPMS warning light remains lit despite being checked and reset by the dealer, and 3) other warning light states are unknown. This exact issue has been noted by many internet posts, and appears tied to faulty manufacture (cracked solder on display control board.)

I have leased a Fit for 4 years now and love it! It's very roomy inside and with the back seats being able to either lift the seat up or put the backrest down, it truly fits so much! It's great on gas too! Not to mention, it fits into small parking spaces too!
-
2nd fit...my 2010 was still running perfectly after 160 k but I just felt like getting a new one given the price point. It's such a great all-around car!
-
Awesome little car that holds so much stuff! It's unbelievable! I think I got as much in it as I did in my CRV. I love everything about it - the locks, the way it drives, the new features, etc.
-
Hi there! This is a great car for getting around, and it's really spacious too!

I used to own a 2004 Cadillac DeVille and while I loved the ride and power, it ended up costing me a lot more than I anticipated. Despite putting over 10k into it for a new transmission, water leaks, sensors, and oil leaks, it seemed like there was always something wrong with it and codes were constantly coming on. Eventually, I decided to trade it in for a 2019 Honda Fit with CVT and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Although it may look small, it has more usable space inside than my DeVille and is easy to see out of with no blind spots. The rear seats fold down or up and it's fun to drive. The motor has plenty of room to work on and can get up to any speed. The steering is really tight and the brakes are great. While the radio isn't anything to brag about, I do wish I had gotten the fog lights. Overall, the Honda Fit feels well-made and I think it could last a long time. If you're looking to spend under 20k, I highly recommend the Honda Fit as the right car for you.

Hi there! I wanted to share some feedback on my experience with the car. I'm 5.6' and unfortunately, I found the seat to be uncomfortable even when adjusted as far back as possible. Additionally, when the seat is adjusted to the highest position, it's difficult to see the front of the car when parking. Getting in and out of the car was also a bit of a challenge with the seating positions adjusted to the max levels. Another minor issue I encountered was the open tank level being positioned in a way that requires me to open the car door and get halfway out to reach it. Lastly, I noticed that the windshield wipers only clean half of the windows, both front and back. Additionally, the heaters were slow to come on even when set to max output. Thanks for taking the time to listen to my feedback!

I was really hoping to love this car, but unfortunately it didn't work out. As a retiree on a budget, I needed a hatchback with plenty of cargo space, and the Honda Fit seemed like a good option since it was cheaper than other models like the VW Golf. However, during the test drive, I started experiencing excruciating pain in my back, legs, and hips after just 10 minutes of driving. I thought it was just me and my arthritis, but after doing some research, I found that many other people of all ages and sizes had similar complaints about the uncomfortable ride of the Fit. Additionally, the low chassis and small tires make it difficult to drive in even a small amount of snow, and the huge windshield often frosts over on the inside, leaving me shivering and waiting for the motor to warm up. Even the seat belt is uncomfortable, requiring me to swivel in my seat and clip it too close to my hip. All in all, I've nicknamed this car The Iron Maiden due to the pain it causes me. Despite all this, I'm still grateful for the cargo space it provides.

I've had the pleasure of owning 2 Honda Fits in the past. The 1st and 2nd generation cars were truly excellent. However, I have to say that I cannot recommend the 3rd generation due to some issues that have come up. Unfortunately, the suspension and brakes are not as strong as they should be, which can be a bit of a hassle. Additionally, the tires tend to wear out quickly, which can be costly for a budget-friendly car. Lastly, there have been some engine issues, such as the injectors failing at only 48k miles, which was a $2k fix. As a loyal Honda customer, I must say that I am disappointed. Perhaps Toyota has a better product?

After my test drive of the 2018 Honda Fit with leather interior, I unfortunately experienced a migraine headache that lasted for four days. I also had a headache after sitting in a 2018 Fit with cloth interior for half an hour. As a result, I have decided to continue driving my 2000 Civic and explore other brands. Thank you for the opportunity to test drive the Fit.

I really love my car - the size, the color, and the price were all perfect for me. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it since buying it new in 2018. The fuel injectors had to be replaced due to hesitation and the engine light coming on. Now, 8 months later, the car is hesitating again. However, I am grateful that I purchased an extended warranty, which will cover the cost of the replacement parts this time around. It's worth noting that repairs have been quite costly, but thankfully the warranty has helped to offset some of those expenses. The car currently has 64,000 miles on it.
