2008 Honda Fit problems
The Honda Fit (Japanese: ホンダ・フィット, Hepburn: Honda Fitto) or Honda Jazz is a small car manufactured and marketed by Honda since 2001 over four generations. It has a five-door hatchback body style and is considered a supermini in the United Kingdom, a subcompact car in the United States, and a light car in Australia. Marketed worldwide and manufactured at ten plants in eight countries, sales reached almost 5 million by mid-2013. Honda uses the "Jazz" nameplate in Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia and India; and "Fit" in Japan, Sri Lanka, China, Taiwan and the Americas.
Sharing Honda's global small car platform with the City, Airwave, first-generation Mobilio, Freed and HR-V/Vezel, the Fit is noted for its one-box or monospace design; forward-located fuel tank; configurable seats that fold in several ways to accommodate cargo in varying shapes and sizes— and cargo volume competitive to larger vehicles.
Honda released hybrid petrol-electric versions of the Fit in Japan in October 2010 and in Europe in early 2011. In 2012, Honda released the Fit EV, a limited-production all-electric version based on the second-generation model in the United States and Japan, and was widely regarded as a compliance car.
The fourth-generation model released in 2019 is currently sold in Japan, Europe, China, Taiwan, South Africa, Brunei and Singapore. Starting from 2020, the model was phased out in most Southeast Asian and Latin American countries to be replaced by the larger City Hatchback, while it was withdrawn entirely from the North American market due to falling demand within the subcompact segment.

- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-15
- VIN: JHMGD38608S
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: When the car is started, it cranks with a bit of hesitation. It then has a rough idle. After putting the car in gear and going, it will just shut off while it's in drive. I then have to place the car in neutral while it's still moving to start it again and then quickly put it into drive. It does this the first 10 minutes of driving and then it stops. Until you let it sit for awhile and then it repeats this same issue.

I am not denying that switch was bad, but Honda is charging labor for the obvious recall repair that was incorrectly performed. I would like a partial refund for the labor they are charging for the time to repair the recall correction. Honda is denying the claim saying it is "wear and tear".

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-03-07
- VIN: JHMGD38678S
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: ON 2/17/21 THE DRIVER SIDE AXLE BROKE AND RIGHT SIDE AXLE RUSTED. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE VEHICLE FIXED. THEY INSTALLED AFTERMARKET AXLES AND WHEN THE FACTORY HONDA AXLES BECOME AVAILABLE, THEY SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT ME TO COME BACK AND THEY WOULD SWITCH THE PARTS OUT FOR FREE. I THEN PICKED UP MY CAR ON 2/19/21. ON 3/7/21 (AFTER ONLY PUTTING ABOUT 400 MILES ON IT) THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SKIPPING GEARS. EVERYTIME I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN PROCEEDED TO GO AGAIN, IT WOULD SKIP OUT OF 1ST GEAR AND INTO 3RD. ALSO, EVERY TIME MY SPEEDOMETER WENT ABOVE 60, THE RPMS WOULD GET HIGHER THAN NORMAL AND FLUCTUATE. WHEN I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR INTO SPORT MODE, IT DID NOT COME ON EITHER. ON 3/8/21 I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT I WOULD NEED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. I ASKED THEM TO TOW IT, AS I DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE IT, AND POSSIBLY DAMAGE IT MORE. THEY AGREED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THEIR DEALERSHIP ON 3/8/21. AFTER THEY LOOKED AT IT THAT SAME DAY, THEY TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG AND THAT THE CAR DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES. I TOLD THEM TO DRIVE IT AGAIN AND TRY TO USE THE SPORT MODE AS WELL BECAUSE IT WAS NOT WORKING ON 3/7/21. ON 3/9/21, THEY SAID THAT WHEN THEY DROVE THE CAR, IT DID NOT SKIP GEARS AND THE SPORT MODE WAS WORKING. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NOW DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION AND THE SERVICE TECH IS JUST TRYING TO COVER UP HIS MISTAKE AND MAKE ME PAY FOR THE TOW BILL. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PAPER WORK FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND NOTE THAT THEY DID NOT EVEN CHECK MY TRANSMISSION FLUID TO WHEN THEY INITIALLY DID THE WORK TO REPLACE THE AXLES. I KNOW THAT WHEN YOU REPLACE DRIVE AXLES, YOU WILL ALWAYS NEED TO CHECK AND ADD TRANSMISSION FLUID, BECAUSE WHEN YOU REMOVE THE OLD DRIVE AXLES, TRANSMISSION FLUID DOES LEAK OUT AND FLUID WILL ALWAYS NEED TO BE REPLENISHED WHEN DOING THIS TYPE OF WORK.

STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-06-15
- VIN: JHMGD38678S
- Components: STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I AM THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY OWNER OF THIS 2008 HONDA FIT SPORT. THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS SO THE INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE SOUND. BUT IT IS NOT. I AM NOT SURE WHEN THE ISSUE BEGAN BUT I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT FOR A FEW YEARS AND DIDN'T REALIZE THAT SO MANY OTHER 2008 HONDA FIT OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SO, I AM JUST NOW MAKING THIS COMPLAINT. MY CAR, JUST AS MANY OTHER 2008 HONDA FIT SPORT OWNERS HAVE REPORTED, HAS A STRUCTURAL DEFICIENCY SOMEWHERE THAT ALLOWS WATER INTO THE VEHICLE IN AT LEAST TWO SEPARATE ENTRY POINTS. WATER POOLS IN THE LOCATION WHERE THE SPARE TIRE IS LOCATED. NOT JUST A LITTLE BIT, NOT JUST A DROP OR TWO...BUT A "POOL" OF WATER. SECONDLY, WATER IS GETTING INTO THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER FLOORBOARD. THE CARPET IS CONSTANTLY WET AND MUSHY. MY CAR SMELLS TERRIBLE DUE TO SITTING WATER (SMELLS LIKE RUSTY DANK WATER?) AND VERY LIKELY MOLD GROWTH. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON THESE CARS I CANNOT BELIEVE HONDA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. HONDA EITHER NEEDS TO MAKE THESE CARS STRUCTURALLY SOUND WITH A REPAIR OR SOMEHOW MAKE IT RIGHT WITH THE OWNERS BY WAY OF A MONETARY EQUIVALENT TO THE DEPRECIATION OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THIS STRUCTURAL ISSUE. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN I SELL THIS CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM?
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-08-26
- VIN: JHMGD38648S
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: MY AIR BAGS LIGHT CAME ON. TESTING SHOWED AIR BAG MODULE NEEDED. IT TURNED MY AIRBAGS OFF. UNSAFE TO DRIVE. 2007 & 2009 HAS AN AIR BAG RECALL. WHAT ABOUT 2008?

- VIN: JHMGD38678S
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO RIGHT AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED PARAGON HONDA LOCATED AT 57-02 NORTHERN BLVD, WOODSIDE, NY 11377, 718- 508-5000 AND PLAZA HONDA LOCATED AT 2722 NOSTRAND AVE, BROOKLYN, NY 11210, 718-253-8400, BUT WAS UNABLE TO SPEAK TO A REPRESENTATIVE AT NEITHER DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO UNABLE TO REACH A REPRESENTATIVE WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,191.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-05-07
- VIN: JHMGD38628S
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: WATER ENTERS THE CAR EXCESSIVELY WHENEVER IT RAINS. WHEN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE, I DISCOVERED THAT MANY FIT OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. IT APPEARS THAT WATER COMES IN AROUND THE WINDOWS AND THE PLASTIC SHEETING INSIDE THE DOOR COMPARTMENT ISN'T SEALED CORRECTLY, SO INSTEAD OF SHEDDING THE WATER TO OUTSIDE OF THE CAR IT ALLOWS THE WATER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE AROUND THE REAR SPEAKERS. I'M NOT SURE YET HOW IT IS GETTING INTO THE HATCH AREA. I TYPICALLY HAVE MY REAR SEATS DOWN, SO I DIDN'T NOTICE THE TWO INCHES OF STANDING WATER IN MY BACKSEAT. FURTHER INVESTIGATION LED ME TO FIND TWO INCHES IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT AS WELL. JUDGING BY THE RUST DISINTEGRATED JACK IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT, THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR QUITE SOME TIME. MY REAR SEAT, CARPET, AND CARPET PAD HAVE BEEN SOAKED FOR SO LONG THAT WHEN I WAS VACUUMING THE WATER OUT OF THE CAR TODAY, I SAW WHITE MOLD GROWING ALONG THE TOP OF MY REAR SEATS. I'M SURE THE CAR IS LOADED WITH MOLD AND POSSIBLY NEEDS TO BE TOTALED DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THIS NOW PRESENTS MAJOR HEALTH RISKS. *TR

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-09-30
- VIN: JHMGD38618S
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: PASSENGER SIDE AXLE BROKE DUE TO RUST CAUSED BY A RUBBER VIBRATION DAMPENER THAT IS INSTALLED. THE RUBBER PIECE TRAPS WATER INSIDE, WHICH JUST SITS AROUND THE METAL OF THE AXLE SHAFT AND CAUSES IT TO RUST THROUGH. IN MY CASE IT BROKE AFTER I STOPPED, THEN AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE FROM THE STOP I HEARD THE PART GIVE WAY. LUCKILY I WAS AT LOW/ZERO SPEED IN A PARKING LOT, INSTEAD OF A CONGESTED HIGHWAY. IN THE PICTURES YOU CAN SEE VERY LITTLE CLEAN METAL, WHICH INDICATES THIS HAS BEEN RUSTING AWAY OVER TIME.

2008 Honda Fit recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 8 recalls for different components of the 2008 Honda Fit.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Acura ILX, 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid, 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid, and 2007-2008 Honda Fit vehicles with a manual transmission and 2009-2013 Honda Fit vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The drive shafts' protective coating may not have been applied properly during manufacturing, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt, or other contaminants, and potentially cause it to break.
- Consequence: A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power. The vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake has not been applied before the vehicle has been exited. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shafts, replacing either the left or right drive shaft, if necessary, free of charge. Owners were notified of the safety risk with an interim letter mailed February 2, 2021. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are P9M, PAV, BAY, TAX, CA0, and MAZ.

Lastly, unless included in "Zone A" or "Zone B" above, Honda is recalling model year 2002-2004 Odyssey and model year 2003-2004 Acura MDX, Honda Element, and Honda Pilot vehicles originally sold, or registered, in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began June 27, 2016. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KA0, KA1, KA2, and KA3.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
- Summary: Honda is re-recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Fit vehicles covered under previous recall 10V-033. The remedy applied in this earlier recall may have been insufficient. In the affected vehicles, over time, the plastic cover may separate from the master power window switch allowing water to enter the driver's window and reach the master power window switch. If the master power window switch is damaged as a result of the water intrusion, overheating and failure of the switch may result.
- Consequence: An overheated switch can cause smoke, melting and fire.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners in July 2013 and will instruct owners to take their vehicles to dealers to have a free inspection conducted. If the switch is damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. If the switch is not damaged, the owner will be instructed to await a second notification that will instruct them to return to the dealer to have a replacement switch installed free of charge. Honda anticipates it will have sufficient parts inventory to notify owners of vehicles with undamaged switches to return to dealers for replacement switches in Fall 2013. Renotification was sent out to owners on July 23, 2014. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's recall number is JA6.
- Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:HIGH/LOW BEAM DIMMER SWITCH
- Summary: HONDA IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2007-2008 HONDA FIT VEHICLES. DUE TO AN ERROR DURING INSTALLATION OF THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE COMBINATION SWITCH THAT CONTROLS LOW HEAD BEAM FUNCTION, THE WIRES FOR THE LOWER BEAM CIRCUIT WERE PULLED TIGHTER THAN INTENDED. AFTER REPEATED USE OF THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH, THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TERMINAL FOR THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT CAN BECOME WORN AS A RESULT OF THIS TENSION, WHICH CAN RESULT IN LOW CONDUCTIVITY AND CAUSE AN ACCUMULATION OF COPPER OXIDE IN THE AREA OF THE CONTACTS.
- Consequence: THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS CAN BECOME INOPERATIVE DECREASING THE DRIVER'S VISIBILITY AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE'S VISIBILITY TO OTHER DRIVERS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE LOW BEAM TERMINAL AND PERFORM NECESSARY REPAIRS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 24, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
- Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
- Summary: HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2008 FIT VEHICLES. UNDER SEVERE CONDITION, WATER MAY ENTER THE DRIVER'S WINDOW AND REACH THE MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SWITCH AND INSTALL A COVER AROUND THE SWITCH HOUSING TO PREVENT WATER FROM ENTERING THE SWITCH. IF THE SWITCH IS DAMAGED, THE SWITCH WILL BE REPLACED AND A COVER WILL BE INSTALLED. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DURING MARCH 19, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

- Summary: ON CERTAIN VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KENTUCKY, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA , WISCONSIN AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. THE WIRE HARNESS FOR THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM (ODS) AND THE OCCUPANT POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM (OPDS) IS ROUTED UNDERNEATH THE CARPET ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOORBOARD. IN AREAS WHERE ROAD SALT IS USED, SALT FROM THE SNOW ON THE DRIVER'S SHOES WILL MELT AND MAY PENETRATE THE CARPET AND LEAK INTO THE WIRE HARNESS. IF THE HARNESS IS EXPOSED TO SALT BRINE, CORROSION MAY OCCUR AND THE WIRE MAY BREAK CAUSING THE SRS INDICATOR LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. A FAILURE OF THE ODS AND OPDS MAY NOT DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A CHILD SEAT OR AN OUT-OF-POSITION PASSENGER AND DEPLOYMENT OF BOTH THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER'S FRONTAL AND SIDE AIR BAGS WILL NOT BE SUPPRESSED.
- Consequence: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, A DEPLOYING FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG OR FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG WILL INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO SMALL OR OUT-OF-POSITION OCCUPANTS.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE WIRE HARNESS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 12, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 800-999-1009.
