2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue problems
The Oldsmobile Intrigue is a mid-size sedan that was manufactured from 1997 through 2002 by Oldsmobile. The Intrigue's design cues were first seen in 1995 with the Oldsmobile Antares concept car, being unveiled in production form in January 1996 at the North American International Auto Show. The Intrigue was the first casualty in the three-year phase-out process of Oldsmobile; Olds' remaining models would last an additional year or two.
The Oldsmobile Intrigue was introduced on May 5, 1997 as a 1998 model, and replaced the aging Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It rode on the second-generation of the W-body, which it shared with the Buick Regal. The Oldsmobile Intrigue was supposed to compete with upscale Japanese and European imports such as Acura and BMW. The Oldsmobile Intrigue was heavily inspired by the Oldsmobile Aurora and the 1995 Oldsmobile Antares concept.
History
The Intrigue was available in three trim levels: base GX, mid-level GL, and high-end GLS. All models were equipped with standard features such as V6 power, antilock brakes, 4-wheel independent suspension, dual front airbags, and full power accessories. GL trim included the addition of a 6-way power adjustable driver's seat, 6-speaker audio system, foglamps, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Top-line GLS added 6-way power front passenger seat, faux woodgrain interior trim, steering wheel audio controls, leather seating, full-function traction control, and a six-speaker Bose sound system.
All Intrigues were built at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas, where the Grand Prix was also built (the Buick Century and Regal, and the Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo were all built in Oshawa, Ontario). For the 1999 model year, a new 3.5 L DOHC engine was introduced. It was a six-cylinder design based on Cadillac's Northstar V8, which was nicknamed the "Shortstar". The 3.5 L engine became standard for 2000, giving the Intrigue the most powerful standard engine of any W-body car.
Another exclusive was a standard 140 mph speedometer. With the Autobahn package the Intrigue came with larger 12-inch front brake rotors, being the first 2nd Gen W-body to incorporate bigger brakes. For 1998-99 models the Autobahn package consisted of a 3.29 differential ratio opposed to the standard 3.05, H-rated tires, 12-inch front brakes with ceramic pads, and a 128 mph speed limiter. For 2000 it was renamed Precision Sport Package which included everything from the Autobahn package except the larger 12-inch front brake rotors, and added the Precision Control System (also known as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)). For 2002 the Intrigue Final 500 Collector’s Edition cars came in a unique Dark Cherry Metallic paint and featured Aurora-styled 17x7.5-inch chrome wheels.
On June 14, 2002, the final Intrigue rolled off the assembly line as part of the Final 500 Collectors Edition.

- Summary: SECURITY LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON AND OFF FOR A FEW DAYS. I STOPPED AT A CARD LOCK PETROLEUM STATION FOR GAS I WENT TO START CAR AND NOTHING,ENGINE DIDN'T EVEN TURN OVER. A LOCAL FARMER GAVE ME A JUMP, STILL NOTHING. I USED HIS CELLPHONE TO CALL A MECHANIC FRIEND OF MINE,HE TOLD ME IT TO WAIT 15 MINUTES AND TRY AGAIN. HE SAID IF IT STILL DIDN'T START THAT I WOULD HAVE TO RESET IT AND SO I WROTE DOWN THE INSTRUCTIONS SAID THANK YOU TO THE GENTLEMAN FOR THE USE OF HIS PHONE. I WAITED STILL NOTHING. I PERFORMED THE PROCEDURE TURNING THE IGNITION ON FOR TEN MINUTES OFF FOR 5 SECONDS AND REPEAT AND SO ON. I LIVE IN NORTH DAKOTA THIS WAS IN JANUARY AND IT WAS BELOW ZERO. I PUT ON A PAIR OF INSULATED OVERALLS AND A FULL LENGTH WW II NAVY PEA COAT. I WAS GETTING SCARED, IT WAS NOW DARK AND I HADN'T SEEN ANYONE SINCE THE FARMER. I WAS REALLY GETTING COLD, MY HANDS, FEET NOSE AND EARS WERE STARTING TO ACHE A LITTLE. I SPENT ANOTHER 3.5 HOURS TRYING TO START MY CAR. THANK GOD A COUPLE STOPPED FOR GAS OR I WOULDN'T HAVE SURVIVED .BY THEN I WAS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT MY FEET I NEW THEY WERE FROSTBITE. I WAS VERY LUCKY I STILL HAVE ALL TEN TOES. WHEN I FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR GM CARS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN LEFT STRANDED AND NO ONE HAS ADDRESSED IT, I WAS IN WAS IN TOTAL DISBELIEF. GENERAL MOTORS EMPLOYEES CEO TO SALES TO MR.GOODWRENCH SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEIR NEGLECT. *TR
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-12-01
- VIN: 1G3WH52HXYF
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: MY BLINKERS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE (FRONT AND BACK) BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION AND WOULD ONLY WORK INTERMITTENTLY IN 2010. THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND THEN THE PASSENGER SIDE BLINKERS (FRONT AND BACK) BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION IN THE SAME MANNER ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER. THIS WENT ON WITH BOTH SIDES WORKING ONLY INTERMITTENTLY FOR 2 YEARS. THEN, SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN MID 2012, THE PASSENGER SIDE BLINKER STARTED MAKING VERY LOUD ELECTRICAL GLITCH SOUNDS AND THEN COMPLETELY BLEW AND MY CAR DIED WITH IT. I HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR SHORTLY AFTER AND THE PASSENGER SIDE BLINKERS WORKED PERFECTLY, BUT I HAD TO DRIVE WITH OUT MY DRIVER'S SIDE BLINKERS UNTIL MID 2013, WHEN I COULD NOT PASS DMV REQUIRED INSPECTION. I PAID TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE BLINKER RELAY SYSTEM REPLACED AND IT WORKED FOR ABOUT A MONTH BUT THEN BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BLINKERS STARTED WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AGAIN. WITHIN 1 MONTH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE BLINKER RELAY SYSTEM COMPLETELY FAILED AGAIN (PASSENGER WORKS, EXCEPT I HAVE TO WIGGLE AND MESS WITH THE EMERGENCY HAZARDS LIGHTS TO GET IT TO EVEN TURN ON AT ALL). NOW I HAVE ONE PAIR OF BLINKERS NOT WORKING AT ALL, AND ONE THAT IS INTERMITTENT, 3/4 OF THE TIME IT WORKS BUT ONLY IF I DISTRACTEDLY WIGGLE MY HAZARD LIGHT BUTTON WHILE TRYING TO TURN OR CHANGE LANES. MECHANICS ARE BAFFLED AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TOO TELL ME! THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION FOR ANYONE TO BE DRIVING WITH AND I FEAR IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT SOMEDAY SOON. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH MY HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY DIMMING THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY GM CONSUMERS SINCE I STARTED DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN 2007. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER MECHANIC TO REPLACE MY DRIVER'S SIDE TURN SIGNAL RELAY SYSTEM, JUST FOR IT FAIL AGAIN DUE TO THESE DANGEROUS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEMS IN MY 2000 OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE. GM NEEDS TO ACT QUICKLY!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-08-01
- VIN: 1G3WH52HXYF
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: I NOTICED THE HEADLIGHTS DIMMING ON THEIR OWN ABOUT A WEEK AFTER I FIRST STARTED DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IT OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY, AND VERY OFTEN. I HAVE HEARD THE HEADLIGHTS SWITCHING INTO DIFFERENT MODES LIKE THIS BOTH A NIGHT AND DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS. THIS POSES A SERIOUS DISTRACTION TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAYS AND OTHER ROADS AND COULD CONFUSE OTHER DRIVERS AT STOP SIGNS. GM SHOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY; I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. [NOTE: I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE MAY ALSO BE LINKED TO A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE TURN SIGNAL RELAY SYSTEM. I HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT BLINKER ISSUES AND FAILURES ON BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE SINCE 2010, AND IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TURN SIGNAL RELAY SYSTEM SOLVES THE PROBLEM, IT DID NOT FOR ME (FILED SEPARATE COMPLAINT FOR TURN SIGNAL ISSUES EXPERIENCED)]
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-08-23
- VIN: 1G3WH52HXYF
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: EVER SINCE 2010, I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH A SERIOUS GM PASSLOCK ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM ISSUE. IT BEGAN WITH MY VEHICLE NOT STARTING ONE DAY. IT HAD POWER; ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS WORKED, RADIO, ETC..., BUT IT WOULD NOT START. AT FIRST, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO, BUT I WOULD ALWAYS SOMEHOW GET IT TO START AFTER A LOT OF PUNCHING OF THE DASHBOARD AND SHIFTING MY GEARS RAPIDLY OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THE PROBLEM SLOWLY STARTED OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY AND I BEGAN TO DO SOME RESEARCH ON IT AND FIGURED OUT THAT IT WAS INDEED AN PASSLOCK SYSTEM MALFUNCTION AFTER CONFIRMING THAT MY SECURITY LIGHT WOULD BLINK WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I COULD GET IT TO START AFTER WAITING 10 MINUTES WITH THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION, WHEN THE SECURITY LIGHT WOULD STOP BLINKING AFTER THAT 10 MINS, I WOULD TURN IT BACK TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN BACK TO THE ON POSITION AND IT WOULD START UP, RESETTING THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. EVENTUALLY, IN 2012, THE PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING USUALLY EVERY 3RD ATTEMPT AT STARTING UP, AND THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM RESET TRICK WOULD NOT WORK 9/10 TIMES, IT WOULD SOMETIMES TAKE HOURS FOR ME TO GET IT TO START. IN NOVEMBER OF 2012, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR SLOWLY STARTING SHUTTING DOWN, ALL WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING, AND ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DIMMED DOWN TO NOTHING, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER UNHARMED (ALSO ABOUT 2 WEEKS BEFORE THIS, MY DRIVER'S SIDE TURN SIGNAL RELAY SYSTEM COMPLETELY BLEW/FAILED). I FOUND OUT THAT MY ALTERNATOR WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED AND DEAD, SO I REPLACED IT. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS, AND THEN IT STARTED OCCURRING AGAIN EVERY NOW AND THEN AND HAS BEEN OCCURRING INTERMITTENTLY EVER SINCE; THE PASSLOCK RESET IS CURRENTLY WORKING. CONSIDERING THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX, THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MALFUNCTION OF THE GM PASSLOCK SYSTEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND HAS CAUSED HARM TO MY LIFE (EG. SCHOOL & JOB EFFECTED)

2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

Hello! I am the original owner of this car and I have put 126k miles on it. Despite sitting out in Chicago weather for 8/10 years, it has only sustained minor exterior damage and rust. I was considering purchasing a new car, but after reading these reviews, I have decided to make the necessary repairs instead! I absolutely love my car and after test driving about a dozen new ones, I have yet to find a car that surpasses my beautiful Intrigue. Although she's getting up there in age and showing a few age spots, she runs great and I have NEVER had a problem with this car!

I love my car and have no plans to sell it! The only problem I have is an issue with the blinkers, but other than that and routine maintenance, I've had no problems at all. It drives great, has plenty of power, and still gets good gas mileage. Plus, it's plenty comfortable for our family of 4. We've made quite a few road trips in it!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my Intrigue. When I bought it, it only had 7600 miles on the odometer and was two years old. Since then, it has been a great family sedan that has met all of my expectations. It's reliable, has a strong engine, and is very stylish. Overall, I'm very pleased with this vehicle!

I've owned my Intrigue for six years now, and it still looks and drives great. I absolutely love this car! Even though it's nine years old, I still think it's one of the best-looking cars on the road. While I did have a few problems with it, such as the driver's side window cable becoming inoperable, I decided not to spend $500 to have it repaired. I also had the steering column greased, replaced the fuel regulator, and an oxygen sensor. However, the interior is well-designed, and the seats are very comfortable. The car has great pickup, and it still turns heads. In fact, I've seen dealers in my area selling Intrigues that have 200,000 miles on them, which speaks volumes about the engine's quality. My only complaint is that GM decided to discontinue the Olds. Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience with this amazing car!

Hi there! I've had my car for over 2 years now, and I'm happy to report that it's been running great. I did have a battery go bad, but other than that, I haven't had any problems. I've driven some imports before, and I can honestly say that this car is just as good, if not better. The engine has a lot of power, and it's really smooth and comfortable to drive.

Although this vehicle has required several repairs throughout my 10-year ownership, I can confidently say that it has been a valuable learning experience. The repairs have included all PWR windows, climate control, blower motor resistor, instrument panel, steering system, A/C compressor, cracked ac vents, wheel bearings, coil packs, crank sensor, cam sensor, oil seals, engine, transmission(2x), lower control arms, valve cover seals, EGR sensor, coolant reservoir, starter (x2).

Our car developed an oil consumption problem at around 40k miles, consuming 1qt in about 1200 miles. Although there is no oil on the garage floor and it doesn't smoke, I have noticed that it burns out dash bulbs frequently. Additionally, the arm rests are rock hard and uncomfortable, especially compared to my FORD F350 which had far superior arm rests. As someone who is 6'3

When you bought yours about 3 months ago, you must have loved it. However, it seems like the crankshaft sensor and starter need to be replaced, and the gas needle has a problem where it still shows 6 gallons of gas after it gets to E. Despite these issues, it's still a good running car with plenty of power and handles like a sports car.

Transmission went out at 52k miles, unfortunately. It will cost $1800 to rebuild at a private shop, not the dealer. The front brakes are uneven and the right front locks up frequently, which can be quite dangerous. Additionally, the alternator needs to be replaced at 61k as it is only putting out 10 amps. Luckily, I have found two salvage yards that claim they have one for $50 and $75. However, the installation process is quite difficult and takes around 3 hours.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2K Intrigue. I've had it for almost a year now and it's been amazing! When I bought it, it had just under 30K miles and now it has just over 40K. I'm happy to say that I haven't had a single problem with it. The car is a joy to drive, with great acceleration and handling. I recently took it on a road trip from Phoenix to LA and it was a dream! I had the cruise control set at nearly 100mph and it was still under 3000rpm. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable and fun ride.
