Volvo S70 1998 problems
The Volvo S70 is a compact executive car produced by Volvo Cars from 1996 to 2000. The S70 was essentially a facelifted 850 saloon. The S70 was replaced with the Volvo S60.
Overview
Introduced in Europe in late 1996 for the 1997 model year and later in the U.S. for the 1998 model year, the Volvo S70 was an updated version of the Volvo 850 saloon. The S70's body style was overall more rounded compared to its predecessor. Changes included a redesigned front end with new lights, fully colour-coded bumpers and side trim, and clear indicator lenses for the rear lights, as well as a redesigned interior. According to Volvo, a total of 1800 changes were made.
Standard equipment was improved with remote central locking, heated & electrically adjustable mirrors, 4 airbags, power brakes with ABS and power windows being standard on every car. Trim levels varied for each market as did the equipment levels of the most basic trims. In the United States, the badging denoted the engine variant and to some extent the equipment level, whereas in Europe engine and options could be chosen individually. On all markets more powerful versions usually received better or upgraded standard equipment. The T5 and R were the series high-performance models.
For the 1999 model year, a minor facelift was introduced. Apart from very minor cosmetic changes, such as a slightly different Volvo badge on the front grille and US models now being equipped with side markers on the front fenders, most changes were done to the mechanicals. Volvo introduced its second generation side airbag which increased in volume to offer better protection. WHIPS, Volvo's system to minimize whiplash injuries, was also introduced as part of the standard equipment. New engine management systems with drive-by-wire replaced the mechanical throttle on all turbo engines as well as bringing with them an upgraded traction control. Now including throttle as well as brake intervention it was renamed STC. The ABS was upgraded from a three-channel to a four-channel system, all-wheel drive models received thicker rear discs and redesigned rear calipers. All automatic transmissions were now equipped with adaptive shift-logic, replacing the previous 3-mode selection. A starter interlock was added to models with manual transmissions.
For the 2000 model year, a new 5-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift-logic was introduced. It was only available on non turbo front-wheel drive models. The 10V engine variants were dropped and replaced by detuned 20V versions, drive-by-wire throttle was now also introduced for non turbo models.

Common Volvo S70 1998 problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 1998 Volvo S70, several common problems have been identified:
- Ignition Switch (Mechanical Side):
- The ignition switch on the mechanical side is a known problem area. It can lead to issues with starting the vehicle.
- Power Seat Controls:
- Problems with the power seat controls have been reported, affecting the adjustability of the seats.
- Mechanical Timing Belt Tensioner:
- Models from mid-'98 and up have a mechanical timing belt tensioner that requires changing with each belt change to prevent issues.
- Electronic Throttle Control (Drive by Wire):
- '99 and newer models are equipped with Electronic Throttle Control, which can be costly to replace if it fails.
- Upper Engine Mount Failure:
- The upper engine mount, used to control engine movement during acceleration, is prone to failure, resulting in knocking sounds.
- Anti Sway Bar End Link Failure:
- The anti sway bar end links with ball joint connections tend to wear out quickly, leading to clunking noises and poor handling.
- Odometer / Tripmeter Failure:
- A small plastic gear that drives the odometer and trip meter functions is prone to cracking, causing intermittent or complete loss of function.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-09-02
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SEARS AUTO CENTER AT 1178 EL CAMINO REAL IN SAN BRUNO, CALIFORNIA (SEARS STORE #6909) ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2018 FOR FRONT BRAKES. SEARS RETURNED THE CAR TO ME ON 9/2/18 (A COPY OF MY "FINAL INVOICE" IS ENCLOSED). I SUBSEQUENTLY LEARNED THAT THE DUST BOOT FOR THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER IS MISSING. I RETURNED TO SEARS ON SEPTEMBER 10 AND TOLD THE MANAGER IN CHARGE, MR. HOLLOWAY, THAT I HAD LEARNED - FROM ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO HAD BEEN DOING OTHER FRONT END WORK - THAT THE DUST BOOT WAS MISSING AND THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE COMPONENT PARTS OF THE BRAKE CALIPER SYSTEM (DESIGNED TO KEEP DEBRIS AND MOISTURE OUT OF THE BRAKE CALIPER). SEARS RE-INSPECTED MY VEHICLE ON SEPTEMBER 10 AND CONFIRMED THAT THE DUST BOOT IS MISSING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEPARTMENT MANAGER (MR. JULIO ESTRADA) WOULD NEED TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION. ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2018, THE MANAGER OF THE SEARS AUTO CENTER - MR. JULIO ESTRADA - REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM AT SEARS' EXPENSE. I BELIEVE THAT SEARS WAS NEGLIGENT AND ASK THAT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE CONDUCT OF SEARS AUTO CENTER.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-08-16
- VIN: YV1LS5574W1
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: UPON ACCELERATING UP THE HILL OF MY STREET, TODAY, AUGUST 16TH, 2011, MY CAR, A 1998 VOLVO S70 , SPED UP, UNNATURALLY, CLOSE TO THE TOP . I HAD JUST DRIVEN OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, AS I BACK INTO IT ALWAYS, AND PROCEEDED UP THE HILL. AS USUAL, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTED DOWN AS THE CAR APPROACHED A STEEPER PORTION OF THE HILL. WHEN BRAKING FOR THE STOP SIGN AT THE TOP, I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS RACING. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP FULLY AT THE STOP SIGN, AND AFTER GOING AROUND THE CORNER TO THE RIGHT, I PULLED THE FLOOR MAT AWAY FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. MY LEFT FOOT WAS NOW FIRMLY PLANTED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, AS WELL AS MY RIGHT FOOT QUICKLY PUMPING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL , ALL IN AN ATTEMPT TO HAVE THE GAS PEDAL UNSTUCK, WHICH IT DIDN'T. IT JUST MADE THE CAR ENGINE CONTINUOUSLY RACE EVEN MORE. THE RPM'S INCREASED ALSO THE MORE THAT THE ENGINE RACED. UNABLE TO FULLY STOP AT THE NEXT SUBSEQUENT 2 STOP SIGNS, ON A STRAIGHT AWAY, AND MY LEFT FOOT TO THE FLOOR WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL, I FINALLY DECIDED TO PLACE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE RACING AT WHAT SEEMED A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED BY EVIDENCE OF THOSE RPM'S. I CONTINUED TO PUMP THE GAS PEDAL,WITH THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WHEN SUDDENLY THE RACING CEASED, AND THE RPM'S CAME DOWN TO AN IDLE, JUST BELOW 1000, I BELIEVE. I THEN PROCEEDED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND STOPPED. AFTER A BIT, I PLACED THE CAR FROM NEUTRAL INTO PARK, AND THEN AGAIN SHIFTED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE. I BEGAN MOVING DOWN A HILL BY MERE IDLING SPEED. I WAS CAREFUL, JUST COASTING NOW, NOT TO INITIALLY PLACE ANY PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR AS I PROCEEDED IN DRIVE. I CAME TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, FOR A RED SIGNAL LIGHT, AND WHEN IT WAS GREEN, I DROVE BACK AROUND A LARGE CITY BLOCK TO MY DRIVEWAY. I BACKED INTO MY DRIVEWAY WITH NO FURTHER ISSUES OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION DURING THE FINAL DISTANCE DRIVEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 OTHER TIMES RECENTLY WHEN SETTING CRUISE CONTROL GOING UP A HILL.*KB

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-07-17
- VIN: YV1LS5375W3
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: I HAVE A 1998 VOLVO S70 WHICH HAS ABS/TRAC LIGHT PROBLEMS. I'VE BEEN HAVING INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THIS WHERE THE INDICATOR LIGHTS COME ON AND THE ABS WILL SOMETIMES PULSATE AND IT MAKES A TERRIBLE NOISE. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT WHEN THE ABS INDICATOR IS ON, I DON'T HAVE ABS BRAKES. IT APPEARS FROM THE VOLVO BRICKBOARD THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY (BESIDES THE FACT THAT IT IS SCARY WHEN THE BRAKES START GOING) AND THINK VOLVO SHOULD MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. IT APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE ONLY ON THIS YEAR/MAKE. *TR
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-08-21
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: REPLACED TIMING BELT AT 76,000 MI. PER VOLVO MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. AT 107,000 MI. TIMING BELT TENSIONER AND PULLEY FAILURE RESULTING IN TIMING BELT SLIPPING OFF AND CAUSING MASSIVE VALVE DAMAGE. THANKFULLY, VOLVO OF NA SERVICE STEPPED UP AS DID DARELL WALTRIP VOLVO AND HELPED TO COVER OVER HALF OF THE $4,600 IN DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED. STILL I WAS STUCK WITH A $2,000 UNEXPECTED REPAIR BILL. ATTENTION - 1998 VOLVO S70 OWNERS AND ALL INTERFERENCE ENGINE OWNERS WITH TIMING BELTS NOTE REPLACE YOUR TENSIONERS AND PULLEYS WHEN YOU REPLACE THE BELT. *JB
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-02-15
- VIN: YV1LS5378W2
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: I HAVE A 1998 VOLVO S70 WITH ABOUT 88K MILES ON IT. I HAD A LOT OF WORK DONE ON IT DEC 20, 2006 INCLUDING REPLACING THE TIMING BELT. ON 2/15, WE WERE DRIVING AND THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED - WE LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKING, ETC. WE MANAGED TO SLOW THE CAR AND GET INTO A PARKING LOT AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER, JORDAN VOLVO IN MISHAWAKA, IN. WE FOUND THAT THE TENSIONER HAD FAILED CAUSING THE TIMING BELT TO SLIP OFF AND CAUSE WHAT APPEARS TO BE VERY MATERIAL (RETAIL AROUND $4K) WORTH OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. VOLVO RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE TENSIONER AT 105K MILES I BELIEVE, BUT I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS CASES ON MESSAGE BOARDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THEIR TIMING BELT BUT NOT TENSIONER REPLACED AND THEN HAVING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE. WE ARE FORTUNATE THAT WE WERE NOT ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED, OR ALONG SIDE THE ROAD (IT WAS PROBABLY 5 DEGREES OUT). THE DEALERSHIP HAS OFFERED TO REPAIR THE CAR AT 1/2 PRICE, BUT MAINTAIN THAT THEY FOLLOWED VOLVO'S PROCEDURES. I CALLED MY OLD MECHANIC IN CHICAGO AND HE SAID THAT 90% OF THE TIME HE REPLACES THE TENSIONER TO AVOID JUST WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. WE WERE NOT EVEN WARNED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING NOR GIVEN THE OPTION TO DECLINE THE SERVICE. *NM
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-08-13
- VIN: YV1LS5376W1
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: ABS BRAKE UNIT FAILED AT 60K MILES; ALL SERVICE WAS DONE AT DEALER. DOZENS AND DOZENS OF OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS TO NHTSA FOR EXACT SAME MAKE AND MODEL. NHTS SEEMS POWERLESS TO TAKE ON THIS ISSUE. HOW MANY DEATHS WILL IT TAKE TO GET SOME ACTION? VOLVO DEALERS AND FORD KNOW WELL THE PROBLEM -- JUST COUNT THE CASH THEY ARE MAKING ON THE REPLACEMENTS, AND THEN MULTIPLY BY 10 BECAUSE MOST ARE NOT WILLING TO PAY $1,000 FOR A $200 PART. *NM

IN ORDER FOR OCCUPANTS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, WHILE THE DOORS ARE LOCKED, THE DOOR MUST BE OPENED BY SOMEONE FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE AUTO WINDOW CONTROL AND LOCKS ON ALL THREE DOORS. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK FAILED PREVIOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE AUTO WINDOW CONTROLS AND LOCK TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE LOCK FAILURE.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-10-23
- VIN: YV1LS5673W1
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: THE ABS ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM IN MY 1998 VOLVO S70 FAILED. THE DASHBOARD LIGHT INDICATED ABS & TRACTION CONTROL (TRACS) FAILURE. NORMAL NON-ABS BRAKING REMAINED. RESEARCH ON SEVERAL VOLVO OWNERS WEB SITES (SUCH AS BRICKBOARD: HTTP://WWW.BRICKBOARD.COM/AWD/?MODEL=S70) SHOWED SYSTEMIC FAILURE OF THE ABS CONTROL MODULE VOLVO PART # 9162675 DUE TO PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD SOLDER CRACKING AFTER 6 YEARS. THE CAR WAS TESTED BY A VOLVO DEALER CONFIRMING ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILEDURE. VOLVO CHARGES A TOTAL $650 TO REPLACE THE UNIT. THE "BRICKBOARD" OWNERS GROUP SUGGESTED A REPAIR SHOP IN CALIFORNIA THAT RESOLDERS THE CIRCUIT BOARD, REPLACES AND UPGRADES FAILED COMPONENTS, TESTS & RETURNS IT FOR $130 PLUS SHIPPING. WE HAD THE OLD BOARD REPAIRED, SINCE A NEW EXACT REPLACEMENT BOARD FROM VOLVO WOULD HAVE THE SAME FAILURE AFTER ANOTHER 5 YEARS. THE REPAIRED ABS CONTROL UNIT HAS BEEN REINSTALLED & THE CAR NOW WORKS PROPERLY, WITH FULL ABS AND TRACS CONTROL. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST PRINTED CIRCUIT FAILURE FROM VOLVO. OUR 1993 VOLVO 940 TURBO HAD TWO BOARD FAILURES: 1, THE RELAY BASE BOARD SOLDER CRACKED, AND RESULTED IN THE OVERDRIVE RELAY NOT WORKING; 2, CRUISE CONTROL OPERATED ERRATICALLY, DUE TO BAD BOARD SOLDER. BOTH OF THESE BOARDS WERE REPAIRED BY OUR LOCAL SERVICE SHOP. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED THAT TWO CRITICAL SAFETY ELEMENTS - THE ABS SYSTEM AND TRACTION CONTROL - ARE FAILING IN A RELATIVELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, & BECAUSE OF A FAILURE OF WHAT SHOULD BE A SIMPLE ASSEMBLY OF TESTED PARTS. FURTHER, WE ARE MOST DISTURBED THAT VOLVO'S REMEDY IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT, WITH THE SAME FAILURE PRONE PART. WORSE, ALTHOUGH WE OPTED FOR A COMPLETE REPAIR, THERE ARE OWNERS WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE FIX. THESE WILL BE DRIVING WITH FAR LESS BRAKING AND CONTROL THAN THE CAR IS CAPABLE OF PROVIDING. *NM
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-01-15
- VIN: YV1LS537XW2
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: DT: THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING POWER, IT SHUTS DOWN. USUALLY IT WILL START BACK. CAN CUT ACROSS TRAFFIC, AND IT WILL JUST STALL. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES, AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY PUT DIFFERENT PARTS ON IT TO NARROW DOWN THE PROBLEM. THERE IS NO POWER STEERING AFTER IT STALLS. BACK IN JANUARY THE TURBO WENT IT OUT AND THEY REPLACED IT. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL SKIPPING. THIS STARTED HAPPENING AROUND JANUARY 15, 2005. *NM THE ABS CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. *JB
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-09-22
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
- Summary: I HAVE A 1998 VOLVO S 70 WHICH HAS FAILED DC INSPECTION BECAUSE THE OBD SCANNER USED BY THE DMV CANNOT GET A READOUT FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER, OXYGEN SENSOR AND A COUPLE OF OTHER EMISSIONS RELATED ITEMS. THE CAR ECU SIGNALS "NOT READY". THE CAR RUNS FINE. WE HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR IN ACCORD WITH VOLVO'S RECOMMENDED "STRUCTURED DRIVE" WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO RESET THE COMPUTER. THIS DID NOT WORK. ONE VOLVO SHOP BELIEVES THE ECU IS FAULTY. ANOTHER SAYS THE ECU IS FINE AND ITS THE SCANNER'S INABILITY TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE ECU THAT IS AT FAULT. THIS SHOP ALSO REPORTS THAT HE HAS SEEN SEVERAL SIMILAR MODEL VOLVOS OVER THE PAST MONTH OR TWO WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. MEANWHILE DV DMV SAYS THEY CANNOT PASS THIS CAR UNLESS THEIR SCANNER GETS POSITIVE AND ACCEPTABLE READINGS. *NM

- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: 1998 VOLVO S70 LOST POWER THEN STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES (9) WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY JULY 27, 2005 . I AM CONCERNED ABOUT DANGER OF STALLING IN TRAFFIC AND GETTING REAR ENDED OR IF STALLS IN INTERSECTION. OR BEING STRANDED. WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALER. THEY FOUND "FAILING MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR". THEY REPLACED IT AND IT RUNS FINE NOW. OLD PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. BUT SERVICE AND REPAIR COST $369.20. I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE OTHER S70 OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM ON MYCARSTATS.COM AND AN ARTICLE IN CARANDDRIVER.COM.*JB

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading about your experience with your car. It sounds like you put a lot of thought and research into finding the perfect Volvo Sedan for you. I'm glad to hear that this car has been a great fit for you and that it hasn't been too expensive to maintain. It's always great to find a car that's both fun to drive and reliable. Thanks for sharing your story!

I traded in my 1995 Volvo for a 1998 S70 a decade ago. The only reason I gave up the '95 was because the AC stopped functioning and the repair would have been too costly. I was really happy with that car's dependability and it had few mechanical issues, but it wasn't worth driving without AC. The '98 had 115k miles at purchase and now has 334k. I've been absolutely thrilled with this car - it's super sturdy and dependable, and there haven't been any major issues. I've been lucky to have a mechanic who knows Volvo's inside and out and has maintained it for its entire life with me. The reason for our separation is that a timing belt is due in the near future, and that requires a lot of labor and will be on the costly side. So, I will also part with this Volvo with no complaints, just thanks. I have absolutely loved the two Volvos I've driven over the past 15 years - they've had far fewer issues than the VW Jettas and Cabriolets I had previously.

If you enjoy driving just for the sake of it, then the GLT is the perfect car for you. While it may require some work, with a little effort, research, and a willingness to use old parts, you can keep this baby running like a top. As the natural evolution of the 850, there is a huge online following for tips, hints, and advice. Even if you've never worked on cars before, you might find that you actually enjoy it. While it may not corner like a race car, few cars of this age can give you the pulse-quickening leap off the line while also providing a great sense of safety and security. And if you ever need any help, there's always a friendly community of enthusiasts ready to offer advice.

I'm so glad I chose this car! It may look like a family sedan, but it packs a punch when you hit the gas pedal. I was pleasantly surprised to discover how fast this Volvo can go. While there are a few basic features missing, like a trunk light and adjustable wipers, the overall quality of the car is impressive. The cup holders could be sturdier, but that's a minor issue. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my first foreign car purchase and wouldn't consider buying anything else. Thank you, Volvo S-70 GLT!

In the 7 years I've owned this car, I've only spent about $4500 on maintenance and repairs, which includes brakes, new tires, 60 and 90K service. That's only around $650 per year, which is amazing! Even with 95K miles on it, the car still runs like it's brand new. I absolutely adore this car and plan on keeping it for another 7 years. If you take good care of it, this car will easily last over 200,000 miles.

Although my experience with this Volvo has been less than satisfactory, it is important to note that the engine has proven to be fairly reliable. However, there have been multiple electrical and computer problems with the car, which is not up to the standards that Volvo is known for. In comparison to domestic and Japanese cars, this Volvo has not performed as well. While I paid around $30,000 for this car, I have had to spend approximately $25,000 on repairs over the past 9 years. Despite this, I still believe in the safety and reliability that Volvo is known for. However, I would recommend considering other options before purchasing this particular model. Alternatively, if you are able to find it at a lower price, it may be worth considering.

In the last 10k miles, the following parts have required replacement/repair: three AC modules, power steering harness, ABS module, struts, shocks, power radio antenna, power door locks, and power seat (which does not work properly). However, the engine and transmission have been solid up to this point. Unfortunately, the total cost of repairs amounts to $4,000 for a car that had been reliable but has now become a money pit of repairs. If you happen to own one, it might be best to sell it before putting too much mileage on it.

The car unfortunately experienced some issues such as steering failure, oil and radiator leaks, and ABS/TRACS failure. Additionally, the door hinges on both the driver and passenger side failed, with one making a loud noise at every catch and the other swinging like a household door with no catch. The hydraulics in the trunk have also completely failed. However, the car does have good interior storage space, nice leather, and good seats. The speakers may flicker on and off due to poor wiring, but they are not blown out. The stereo may be inconveniently located in the trunk, but it is still functional. While the base model has a longer 0-60 time of over 11 seconds, it still manages to get an average of 21 MPG even when driven gently. It received a three-star safety rating in the '90s, so it may not be the safest option. Lastly, the e-brake is unfortunately broken.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my Volvo. Over the past 5.3 years and 55000 miles, I have had to make several trips to the dealer for maintenance. Unfortunately, I have had to replace the battery three times, the front rotors at low mileage, and the rear engine oil seal due to leakage. Additionally, the interior door panel coverings have bubbled, and I have had to replace numerous headlamps and turn signal bulbs (prior to recall). The windshield has also become pitted, and the car has been eating tires. Most of these issues occurred after the warranty expired. While I have had some challenges with my Volvo, I believe that with proper maintenance, it can last a long time. However, I would recommend considering other brands such as Toyota, Nissan, or Honda after driving it for three years. Thank you for your time.
