2017 Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.
The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

Common 2017 Gmc Acadia problems
The 2017 GMC Acadia has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the transmission, engine, and climate system.
One of the most widespread issues is transmission problems, which have been reported by owners at around 35,000 miles. The most common problem is a "shift to park" error, which can indicate several problems with the transmission. These problems can range from a simple software issue, which costs around $100 to fix, to more serious issues like wiring harness problems, which can cost up to $700 to replace. In some cases, total transmission failures have been reported, which can cost over $3,000 to repair.
Another common problem is failure to start due to electrical issues, which have been reported by owners at around 30,000 miles. Alternator failures are a common cause of this issue, which can lead to the battery not being charged. Replacing the alternator can cost around $650, depending on local labor rates.
Excessive engine vibrations have also been reported on some Acadia models at around 20,000 miles. These vibrations can be caused by a variety of issues, including software problems and broken motor mounts. The software issue can be fixed with a technical service bulletin to update the engine software, while broken motor mounts can cost around $350 to replace.
The 2017 Acadia has also been subject to several recalls, which are more severe than other midsize SUVs. These recalls cover issues like front brake calipers that can leak fluid, broken driveshafts, and a fuel pump weld that may fail. All of these issues can lead to accidents or cause a fire, and GMC will replace and repair parts for free on affected models.
In addition to these issues, some owners have reported problems with the climate system, including issues with the AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, and refrigerant leakage. These issues can be costly to repair, with one owner reporting a bill of $348 for a refrigerant leak, and another reporting a bill of $233 for a thermostat replacement.
Overall, the 2017 GMC Acadia has several common problems that can be expensive to repair, particularly issues related to the transmission and electrical system. Owners have reported high repair costs as the Acadia ages, making it a less reliable choice compared to other midsize SUVs.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-29
- VIN: 1GKKNMLS7HZ
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The "shift to park" warning light comes up every time I put my car in park. I have to move it back and forth multiple times to get it to acknowledge that its in park or the vehicle will not shut off. This is a dangerous situation in that the car could easily roll when I am not in it. I know that this is an ongoing issue with the 2017-2018 GMC Acadia and don't understand why GMC won't issue a recall for this. If this were to cause injury or an accident then they are 100% liable. I started having these issues about a week ago. My husband took it to the dealership and they told him that its not a recall or under warranty. I cannot afford to fix this myself at this point.

While outside of warranty, this is clearly a design and manufacturing flaw.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my leased 2017 Acadia. While I've enjoyed driving it, I have noticed a few minor issues with the build quality that I wanted to bring to your attention. For example, the hood/grille is slightly off-center, there are gaps between the grille and headlights, and some of the trim pieces don't fit flush. Additionally, the rear seats are a bit uneven and there are some bumps in the fabric when the seats are folded flat. While these may seem like small details, I was surprised to see them in a 2017 model year vehicle. That being said, I have found the Acadia to be very comfortable to drive, whether on the highway or in town. It doesn't feel like a full size SUV at all, which is great. If you're able to find an SLT-1 for around $35,000, I think it would be a good value. However, if you're looking to spend more than $40,000, I would recommend exploring other options. It seems like GMC may have prioritized electronics and flashy features over the mechanical quality of the vehicle. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts!

Lots of leg room with the seating. It's a nice ride in a beautiful car. However, I didn't like the phone system.

I recently downsized from a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT All Terrain to a 2017 GMC Acadia SLT1 All Terrain, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The new version of the Acadia has a smaller interior, but it still feels just as luxurious as the Sierra. Both vehicles are truly awesome. I opted for the upgraded version of the Acadia with the 20

This is my third new GMC Acadia - the reliability is exceptional, and the ride is extremely comfortable. It also has abundant amenities and great storage space for travel.

This is a great vehicle! If you have any questions about how to operate the wipers or anything else, don't hesitate to ask your dealer or refer to the manual. I've noticed some negative comments about this car, but I think it's fantastic! Every vehicle has its minor problems, but that doesn't mean it's not a great car overall. I love my dual sunroof and the fact that it sits up high enough to see the road ahead better than most vehicles. The rear back up camera is also an excellent feature. I have an app on my phone that starts the vehicle, which is so convenient. The heated seats are also wonderful! I see many happy drivers on the roads, and I am one of them! Let's support our troops and buy American-based and built cars like Ford and GM. Thank you for allowing me to express my opinion. Safe and happy travels!

This car is great for long rides on the highway, but it does feel quite heavy. Unfortunately, the front brakes wore out at 27000 and the electrical system is failing. The dealer says it will take many months to get the parts due to high demand, which is frustrating. It seems that the problems are caused by road salt, which is a common issue in the north east. It would be great if the car was designed to handle salt better. I have decided to sell the car as soon as the parts arrive and buy a Toyota instead. On the bright side, the factory gave us a two-year extension on the warranty to cover the chronic electrical problem. Although the warning module broke again, it was replaced under the extended warranty. Unfortunately, GM has not done anything to correct the problem, and it cost $1000.00 to replace the module.

Hello! I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to bring to your attention a concern I have with my vehicle. Unfortunately, I have noticed that the horn does not operate with normal driver pressure and requires two hands, which can be quite difficult in emergency situations. I have spoken with the dealer about this issue, and while they recognized it as a safety concern, they were unable to provide a fix. I have also noticed that other Denalis on the lot have the same issue, and I have seen reports from several others who have experienced this problem as well as reports to the NHTSA. I believe it would be beneficial for this issue to be addressed and potentially recalled. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

A 2 ton vehicle with a 4 cylinder? That's quite a unique combination! While it may not be for everyone, it's interesting to see how GM is experimenting with different engine options. However, I can understand how the auto stop/start feature may not be to everyone's liking. The seats could use some improvement, especially for taller individuals who require more lumbar support. It's great to see that power driver's seat and power lift gate are becoming standard equipment in newer models. The instrument cluster information screen has an eco index feature that may not be useful for everyone, but it's nice to have the option. While there may be some bugs to work out with the Apple CarPlay system, it's a great feature to have when it's working properly. The new Acadia may not be as high off the ground as some other SUVs, but it still offers good cargo space when the 3rd row is down. It's important to note that the SL model does not come with a roof rack, so that's something to keep in mind. Overall, while this vehicle may not be the perfect fit for everyone, it's interesting to see the different features and options that are available in newer models.

Since day one, this car has had a transmission shifting issue from 1-2 and 3-4. Unfortunately, GM has not been very helpful and basically told me that it is what it is. This has been a frustrating experience, and I am disappointed with the product. I hope that GM can improve their customer service in the future.

The Acadia Denali has its pros and cons. While I love its looks and decent fuel economy (19 mpg city & 26 mph hwy avg), it rides like a rough truck. Despite the dealer's attempts to fix the issue, the vehicle still creeps towards the left lane and outside fumes enter the cabin. At $49,980, I expected better quality and could have bought two foreign cars instead. However, I appreciate the 2 free oil changes. At 20,000 miles, there are a few issues with the vehicle, including a broken latch for the rear sunroof shade and a low squealing sound from the blower fan motor. Despite these problems, the automatic adjusting rearview mirrors are a useful feature. Overall, while I made a mistake in purchasing the Acadia Denali, I have learned from it and will make a more informed decision in the future.I have had multiple issues with this vehicle, including a clicking sound when turning left which I suspected was a CV joint problem. However, the dealer informed me that there was a recall on the left front lug nuts. Despite this being fixed, there is still a grinding noise coming from the transmission/motor. The dealer has been unable to identify the issue and has suggested that it may be a new problem. I am disappointed with the quality of this $48,987.00 vehicle, which is the second GM vehicle I have owned since 2013. The first was a 2013 Terrain Denali, which had multiple issues including four air conditioning replacements and a rebuilt engine due to bad rings. I then purchased the 2018 Acadia Denali, which has also been problematic. I have experienced electrical issues, including the battery needing to be replaced twice and the radio automatically changing stations and displaying strange numbers on the touch screen. Despite showing the service manager a picture of the issue, they have been unable to fix it. This has left my wife stranded twice and the car has had to be jump-started to get it back to the shop. The automatic rearview mirrors were also problematic and would not stay in place, and the driver's rearview mirror still moves on its own. Overall, I am extremely dissatisfied with the quality of this vehicle and will not be purchasing another GM vehicle in the future. After being rear-ended 6 months ago, I got my vehicle repaired and attempted to trade it in. Unfortunately, I discovered that there was a Carfax report on my vehicle, which reduced its trade-in value by 6-7 thousand dollars. Despite my efforts to trade my Acadia for a comparable vehicle, no dealer would offer more than rough trade (NADA). However, I did purchase an extended warranty for my vehicle, which has proven to be valuable as I have had to use it numerous times in the past year. Although I have had some issues with my vehicle, I have learned to be comfortable being uncomfortable and have decided to keep my Acadia until the wheels fall off. While I have had some trouble with the driver's rearview mirror, which has been in the shop for the past 4 years, I have learned to be patient and reset the mirror before driving. Although I paid over 45 thousand dollars for my vehicle, I have come to the conclusion that I will not purchase another GMC from the dealer in Dickinson, Texas.
