The Genesis GV80 (Korean: 제네시스 GV80) is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Genesis, Hyundai's luxury division.
Overview
Internally codenamed JX1, the vehicle was leaked in 3D in October 2019 and officially unveiled in January 2020 as the first SUV for the Genesis brand. It is a collaborative effort between Genesis design teams in Korea, Europe, and the United States. Built on a new rear-wheel-drive architecture, the doors, hood, and tailgate are made of aluminum.
The GV80 is available with three powertrains, a turbocharged 2.5-liter unit with 304 PS (224 kW; 300 hp), a turbocharged 3.5-liter unit with 380 PS (279 kW; 375 hp), and a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel with 278 PS (204 kW; 274 hp) horsepower, which will only be available in select markets.
It features a navigation-based smart cruise control (ASCC), remote smart parking assist, an NFC digital key, an around view monitor (AVM), 22-inch wheels, Nappa leather seating, a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display with the 21-speaker Lexicon audio system, electric side curtains, and driver-controlled second- and third-row seating.
The safety system includes ten airbags, forward collision-avoidance assist, reverse parking collision-avoidance assist, driver attention warning, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, automatic high beam assist, and lane keep assist (LKAS).
Claimed CO2 emissions range from 175 to 202 g/km (9.9 to 11.5 oz/mi) (2.5 L petrol), from 199 to 221 g/km (11.3 to 12.5 oz/mi) (3.5 L petrol) and from 164 to 188 g/km (9.3 to 10.7 oz/mi) (3.0 L diesel). The EU target for the CO2 emissions of new passenger cars is 95 g/km (5.4 oz/mi) in 2020. Combined fuel consumption ranges from 8.5 to 9.7 km/L (11.8 to 10.3 L/100 km; 24 to 27 mpg‑imp; 20 to 23 mpg‑US) (2.5 L petrol), from 7.8 to 8.6 km/L (12.8 to 11.6 L/100 km; 22 to 24 mpg‑imp; 18 to 20 mpg‑US) (2.5 L petrol), and from 10.4 to 11.8 km/L (9.6 to 8.5 L/100 km; 29 to 33 mpg‑imp; 24 to 28 mpg‑US) (diesel).

- Summary: The Adaptive Cruise Control will slow the car down or try to bring it to a stop from speed on a highway for no reason, with no other vehicle in close proximity. Sometimes it occurs on a curve when the car seems to react to a guard rail or snow bank. Very often it is on a long straight stretch of road with no one in sight. Car just aggressively decelerates. The only action is to press the accelerator or shut the cruise control off in order to overcome the problem. Clearly this puts vehicle occupants at risk because the car creates a risky driving situation on highways. Have brought it to a dealer where the service manager acknowledged that this is an issue with this vehicle that others have complained about, but Genesis has not addressed. Message boards and Genesis on-line forums are filled with similar complaints. There were no warning lamps or other indicators for the problem.

- Summary: Forward collision warning and active assist are practically inoperable. The vehicle doesn't detect the car in front of it and doesn't show it on display. The operation doesn't match the described function in the owner's manual. After trying to work with Genesis Corporate office and dealer, I could replicate the problem during the test drive that was conducted after dealer performed extensive diagnostics together with Genesis tech support. System didn't return any fault codes. Dealer documented the issue in the service record. During the test drive, the WARNING system finally activated when collision would have been imminent only prevented from the accident by the technician driving by slamming on the brakes. The emergency braking system didn't activate at all. I drove various loaner cars being Genesis 2023 models that all exhibited the same behavior. According to the manual the system should be active at the speeds 6 miles per hour or above. I can get very close to the car in front of me and nothing would happen. It only affects normal driving. Adaptive cruise control works fine and sees the vehicle in front of me with no issues

- Summary: I purchased GV80 in Genesis of Cumming, GA in May 6, 10:00AM, on the same day, while driving on the highway returning home, low tire pressure warning was poped up in the center cluster, then right after rear-driver side tire unexpectedly ripped off from the rim, causing me to lose control of the car and almost causing a serious accident. No symptoms recognized before incident while I drive on the flat road. Anyway, fortunately I could make the vehicle stopped without any minor collision and body injuries except rim damage and paint peel off on the rear bumper. After parking in a safe place, looking at the other tires and saw a damaged tire is on front the driver's side. (Rim is clean) In this case, the dealer who delivered the vehicle to the customer without inspection is also a problem, but it is the fault of the car manufacturer that manufactured the defective vehicle and sold it without quality inspection. All vehicles in stock must be inspected for all tires and taken over by the customer for safe riding.

- Summary: The second row passenger seatbelts are difficult to reach because they do not angle high enough for the user to easily latch. While they work well for a normal adult, children have difficulty latching the belt from a booster seat, especially if a Weathertech or similar seat protector are present. Secondly, the middle passenger belt latch is not identical in size to its left and right counterparts. Difficulty accessing the right passenger latch may lead to people attempting to use the middle belt latch as an alternative. This will fail to latch if attempted using the right passenger's belt. The manufacturer should consider standardizing all belt latch mechanisms.

We have a friend who has a 2022 GV 80 and has had three rock hit her windshield to chip and that have caused cracks the entire width of the windshield. The car was purchased on 9/5 with approximately 700 miles.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Genesis GV80, 2021-2023 Genesis G80, 2022-2023 Genesis GV70, and 2023 Genesis GV60 vehicles. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.
- Consequence: An exploding seat belt pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, strike vehicle occupants, and result in injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will secure the seat belt pretensioners with a cap, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 14, 2023. For GV60 owners, Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed April 14, 2023. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 012G. This recall supersedes and expands recall number 21V-796. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 21V-796 will need to have the new remedy completed.

I purchased a 2022 Genesis GV80 Prestige for $69K and initially had a great experience driving it for the first 22K miles. However, I encountered some issues with stalling and discovered that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. I also learned that there was a recall on the fuel pump. Unfortunately, at 29K miles, the head gasket blew and the car had to be taken to the dealership for 5 weeks. Despite these setbacks, Genesis decided that a new engine was necessary. While I have concerns about potential future issues, I am confident that the dealership and Genesis will continue to provide excellent service and support.

When I first received this car as a rental, I was excited to try out an SUV again for my grandkids after driving electric and hydrogen cars for the past few years. I was pleased to see that it was a Hyundai, a brand that I love and trust. The car itself is very comfortable and spacious, making it perfect for carrying both kids and cargo. However, I did have some issues with the car. The four-cylinder turbo engine was quite noisy and underpowered, which was disappointing. Additionally, the navigation system and voice recognition were not up to par. My biggest concern, however, was with the safety systems. They were overly sensitive and twice put me in a dangerous situation when I was trying to accelerate into traffic. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the comfort and space that the car provides, but I would not recommend spending extra money on it.

Although I love the car, I must say that the design of the door compartment is not very practical. It seems that only the genesis 12 oz slim bottle of water that they gave us at the dealership fits properly. Unfortunately, anything else that fits in the compartment lays partially on its side. This could be improved in future models.

We purchased a 2.5T with the prestige package and were initially informed that the tech and safety features were consistent across the board. However, we later discovered that this was not the case. Genesis has been cutting corners with their newer builds, as they have removed HDA 2 and downgraded to HDA 1 in newer models. This is disappointing, as people typically purchase newer models for their superior technology, but this is not the case with Genesis. Additionally, we found that the 2.5T with the prestige package is missing several features, such as soft close doors and power rear features. Furthermore, we were disappointed to find that the spare tire had been removed to save costs. We understand that there is a chip shortage, but this seems like a cheap solution. We were also dissatisfied with the dealership service, as the dealers were unable to articulate the car's features. The service warranty also had several hidden clauses. We believe that when you pay 70k for a car, you should expect a high-quality product. Unfortunately, we do not believe that Genesis delivers on this promise. We recommend that you stay away from Genesis and consider other options, such as Subaru, which we believe are superior cars. Thank you for considering our feedback.

It looks cool...like a tall glass of iced tea on a hot summer day. Unfortunately, my experience with the Genesis GV80 has been less than ideal. While the vehicle is undeniably hot and stylish, it has unfortunately been plagued with mechanical, electrical, and computer-based issues. Despite numerous trips to the shop, these problems persist and have made it difficult to fully enjoy the vehicle. While I still appreciate the GV80's appearance, I am hesitant to take it out for fear of another breakdown. It's been a frustrating experience, but I remain hopeful that these issues will eventually be resolved.
