Ram 1500 2014 problems

The Ram pickup (marketed as the Dodge Ram until 2010) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Stellantis North America (formerly Chrysler Group LLC and FCA US LLC) and marketed from 2010 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, in January of that year.

Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 model year Dodge Trucks in October 1980, following the retiring and rebadging of the Dodge D series pickup trucks as well as B-series vans, though the company had used a ram's-head hood ornament on some trucks as early as 1933.

Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year eight times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram heavy-duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the fourth-generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014, and the current fifth-generation Ram pickup became the first truck in history to win the award three times, winning in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Transmission issues are the most frequently reported problem with the 2014 Ram 1500. Drivers have experienced a bump in the transmission when going from a stop to accelerating, as well as when applying the brakes.   • Summary: Hello, the ABS module failed in September 2023. This caused the ABS, traction control, and cruise control to be disabled. My local dealer inspected it to confirm the issue and placed an order for a replacement. It is now October 2024 (yes, 13 months later), and Stellanis is still unable to provide an estimate for part delivery. I am unable to pass my state saftey inspection and do not have the safety features that the part enables. I have communicated with stellanis for the past 8 months but they continue to say they cannot provide an ETA for the part. I don't know where else to go to resolve the issue to make my truck safe to drive.

  • Summary: I was driving down the highway when my steering wheel locked up and a warning light lit up saying “service power steering”. Very scary and dangerous situation to be in during traffic hours and I was stranded for a few hours until a tow truck could come pick me up on the side of the highway. The truck was towed to the dealership and they informed me the problem was the Power steering rack, having to spend thousands since It’s not covered under warranty. As far as who’s inspected it is unknown due to it being at the dealer. There were no signs or symptoms prior to the incident.

  • Summary: Electric Power Steering (EPS) Failure and it is available for inspection. I was traveling 45 MPH in a 45 MPH zone on a curvy two land county road. Truck totally lost all electric power steering assist immediately without warning, when entering a sharp 90 degree turn. I experienced loss of control of truck, but thankfully I reacted properly and hit the brakes and there was no obstacles and other traffic. I ended up all over the road before ending up on shoulder of road. The problem is constant and was diagnosed with trouble code C2217-00 Electric Power Steering Module Internal. Vehicle has not been inspected by mfg, police or insurance or representatives. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the immediate failure of EPS. Warning was showing once I got vehicle stopped and looked at the dash. Incident happened on Sunday Sept 29, 2024, approximately 5PM.

It becomes noticeably more difficult to breathe and the cab fills with exhaust smell. I posted my issue in a Facebook group for the powertrain that I’m in and many others say they have the same issue and have brought their trucks to the dealer. They’ve either had their trucks “fixed” and the issue still persists or the dealers advised them that there is no repair available. I noticed there is an almost identical recall for the 2WD models of my truck but it does not include 4WD models.

  • Summary: The antilock brake system module ($1200) is defective and has not been available for more than a year after contacting four dealerships in Alabama and Florida. The antilock brake system warning lights are on the left side of the dash. When the center warning comes up on the dash the truck feels like the rear end is about to lock up and fall off. All the dealers I contacted stated this is a known and long-term problem. I called dodge corporate (1-866-726-4636) and said the modules are being reengineered then manufactured and may be ordered by dealerships after October 16, 2024. They could not guarantee it would be available to order if not I was told to call corporate back, and they would try to find one. I have an appointment to take my vehicle to the dealership due to excessive back logs at all dealerships, The center warning center comes up moments before the backend is affected. The lights on the left side are always on. Currently there are no recalls.

  • Summary: We had our vehicle serviced at the Olathe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram service center between the dates of May 26, 2024 through June 27th, 2024 on 3 separate occasions due to following. Received truck back on June 17th with a blown air suspension after confirming that the air suspension was filled firm when brought the truck in due to an email received for a recall and when driving the vehicle, the power steering kicked in due to the battery terminal not being secured properly (confirmed by AAA technician). No vehicle lights were turned on during this. Returned truck on June 25th, 2024, received truck on June 26th, 2024 where diesel gas was spewing from my truck sitting idol in my driveway after driving it straight home from the service center. Returned on June 27th, 2024 at 7:00 AM CST after being told by the Dodge technicians that I should've drove the truck to them and that diesel has a burning point of over 1,000 degrees. They towed my truck to the shop after I refused. Received my truck at 2:30 PM EST the same day for my road trip that had been scheduled for 6 months. On July 6th, 2024, when driving my truck 4 of the 5 lug nuts broke off completely in which the tire flew off of my truck and caused a singular car accident and damage to my vehicle. We could've been seriously injured due to where we were on the road. I had additional injury to my lower back during the accident incident. We had the vehicle inspected by the California local police department as well as the licensed technician who confirmed that this was negligence by the service center who serviced my truck less than 2 weeks prior. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the General Attorney due to not receiving any response from Dodge regarding this matter.

The current part number for repair has been discontinued and it sounds like the ABS Control Module is under engineering review. When the fault is thrown it turns of traction control and does not allow the use of 4 wheel drive. I have serious safety concerns when driving my vehicle when the abs fault is thrown. If the part has been discontinued and it is under engineering review how has it not been recalled.

  • Summary: My truck is a 2014 Ram 1500 Vin: [XXX] *NOTE: [This recall is for older models of Ram 1500] U04 / NHTSA 18V-160 Frame Bracket This recall should be related to Ram 1500 Gas Tank fuel tank straps on ,and corrosion to frame on 2009-2018 Dodge Ram.* The frame is rusted out that holds the bracket. Fuel tank is hanging off almost hitting the ground. VERY DANGEROUS... There is NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE YEAR AND MODEL. Thousands of people are online complaining of this same problem. So, much where the (BRACKETS) are sold out, and on back order. The frame now has to be welded with a support plate to attach to new brackets.   • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0L Diesel engines. The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.
  • Consequence: An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to maintain vehicle propulsion, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 3, 2023. Some owner notification letters were mailed October 31, 2023. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a future date, anticipated July 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 66A. This recall is an expansion of recall 20V-475.

  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 2014-2019 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines. A high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure may introduce internal debris into the fuel system, potentially resulting in fuel starvation.
  • Consequence: Fuel starvation may result in an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the HPFP, and inspect and replace, if necessary, additional fuel system components, free of charge. Interim notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed July 21, 2022. Owner notification letters for were mailed for Jeep Grand Cherokee owners starting January 11, 2024.   • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 1500 Classic Pickup trucks equipped with 3.0L Eco Diesel engines. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler may crack and allow pre-heated vaporized coolant to enter the EGR system. This mixture may combust inside the intake manifold.
  • Consequence: Combustion in the intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EGR cooler, free of charge. Dealers will also inspect and, as necessary, replace the intake manifold. The recall began April 16, 2020. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is VB1.

  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with an 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. Chrysler is also recalling all 2013-2014 and 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks built before April 1, 2018 with a 6 or 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. On August 29, 2019 Chrysler expanded the recall to include an additional 693,128 model year 2013-2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving.
  • Consequence: If the tailgate opens while the vehicle is being driven, cargo may fall out the vehicle and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will repair the tailgate latch, free of charge. The recall began May 23, 2019. Chrysler is expected to notify owners of the expanded population on October 18, 2019. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US's number for this recall is V44. Note: 2015-2017 MY Ram 1500 pickup trucks with truck beds other than 8 foot, are currently covered under NHTSA recall 18V-486 for this issue.

If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
  • Consequence: If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
  • Consequence: Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

Certain driving conditions, such as driving off-road or debris striking the vehicle may cause the roll rate sensor to trigger a fault within the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). If this fault occurs, the rollover side curtain air bag and the seat belt pretensioner will be disabled from deploying.
  • Consequence: If the rollover side curtain air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a crash that necessitates activation of these safety systems.

These Mopar canvas seat covers were sold through Chrysler dealerships beginning October 15, 2015. The seat covers can impede the deployment of the seat thorax airbags.
  • Consequence: If the seat cover impedes the air bag deployment, the seat thorax air bags may not provide adequate protection in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of a injury.

The affected vehicles are equipped with side air bag inflatable curtains (SABIC) that may not fully overlap the C-pillars in the event of a vehicle crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."
  • Consequence: In the event of a vehicle crash, if a SABIC does not inflate as intended, there is an increased risk of injury to the rear seat occupant.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will inspect the right and left side air bag inflatable curtains (SABIC) for proper orientation and a foil patch will be installed on both sides of the headliner. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
  • Consequence: Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network.
