2021 Infiniti Q50 problems
The Infiniti Q50 is a compact executive car manufactured by Nissan for its luxury brand, Infiniti. Replacing the G/Q40 sedan, it debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in North America in the third quarter 2013 and in Europe in fourth quarter 2013. It is the export model of the Japanese domestic market's V37 Nissan Skyline.
The design of the Q50 continues to follow the designs first shown by the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept and the production 2011 Infiniti M. The Q50 is also the first instance of a hybrid model in Infiniti's entry-level model but was later removed for the 2019 model year.
First generation
Q50 sedan (2013–)
The design was based on Infiniti Essence (crescent-cut C-pillar, deep body section, asymmetrical cabin layout, interior finishes) and Infiniti Etherea (headlights, three-dimensional double-arch grille, interior finishes). The production Q50 design was frozen in June 2011, after being designed by Joel Baek under Shiro Nakamura.
The Q50 sedan was unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, followed by the 2013 Canadian International AutoShow, 2013 Geneva Motor Show (with Hybrid and 2.2d), 2013 Dubai International Motor Show, Auto Guangzhou Motor Show in China (with 2.0-liter (214PS) turbocharged engine from Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz)), and Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.
Early US and Canada models include 3.7-liter V6 (333PS), 3.5-liter Hybrid (364 PS), each in a choice of rear-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and in a selection of trim levels, including Sport models.
US models went on sale in August 2013.
Early Canadian models include 3.7-liter V6 (Q50 RWD, Q50 Sport RWD, Q50 Premium AWD, Q50 Premium AWD Navi, Q50 Premium AWD Navi and Deluxe Touring and Tech, Q50 Sport AWD, Q50 Sport AWD Deluxe Touring and Tech) and 3.5-liter Hybrid (Q50 Hybrid Premium RWD, Q50 Hybrid Premium AWD, Q50 Hybrid Sport AWD).
The early European models included 2.2d and hybrid. Infiniti's 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model was added in 2014.
In China the 2014 Q50 3.7L was sold as an imported vehicle until production in China could begin. The 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model and the Q50 Hybrid also joined the line up.
Middle East models was set to go on sale in spring 2014 as 2014 model year vehicles. Early models include 3.7-liter V6 and 3.5-liter Hybrid, both in rear-wheel drive.
Australian models went on sale in February 2014, launching with the 2.2d diesel and 3.5 gasoline hybrid models.
Hong Kong models went on sale as 2014 model year vehicles.

- Summary: I was driving home on the Veterans Expressway in Tampa traveling about 65 mph when a sound like a gunshot almost caused me to lose control as I swerved out of fear - thankfully no other vehicles were nearby. I pulled over at the next exit in a public place and discovered my sunroof class had a piece of glass missing and it looked like it was pushed upwards. I knew this is not normal and never had I had this happen in any other car I owned with a sunroof. I had very small slivers of glass inside the car which cut my fingers because they were not visible, along with the tempered glass. Since it was going to rain, I drove home and put in garage to avoid water damage. I called the dealership in Sarasota and they stated this was reported by another customer in recent months. There was no warning there was a problem with my sunroof, nothing hit it, and it had been opening and closing with no problems. I’m lucky not to have crashed. In addition, flying glass that broke free created an even more dangerous situation for other drivers - thankfully the road was empty - by the time I was able to get to a gas station closer to home, the majority of the glass was missing. I researched the problem online and discovered numerous reports online suggesting this is a frequent problem with Nissan/Infiniti - apparently there is already a class action suit, but not for my model. Please investigate this dangerous problem immediately and ask Infiniti to inspect and issue recalls on their sunroofs. Unfortunately I believe they know a problem exists and have not issued a recall for the safety of their consumers. The cost to repair is in the thousands and I am without a car plus there are glass shards inside my car. **I tried to upload pictures but wasn’t able to do it from my phone - I have multiple pictures to share

- Summary: I purchased a new 2021 Infiniti Q50 from Infiniti of Cool Springs on September 28, 2020. There was an incident on January 13, 2022 due to a manufacturer defect that caused my car to accelerate on it’s own. I was parked at a car wash to vacuum my vehicle. I had my foot on the brake to move the gear shift into park when my car rapidly accelerated which caused me to crash through a metal fence that separated the car wash from the adjacent property. I have an added safety feature on my vehicle to prevent a forward collision with emergency breaking that also didn’t implement. There wasn’t any warnings, indications or symptoms beforehand. I had my Infiniti for 16 months with only 20,766 miles on it at the time of the incident. This malfunction could present a serious public safety issue. I or someone else could have been seriously injured in a different scenario. It was fortunate that I was stopped and no one was in front of the car. Nissan issued a recall on April 3, 2021 for the problem of rapid acceleration. The dealership without my knowledge completed the recall on my vehicle on April 1, 2021 which evidently didn’t fix the problem. Nissan and the dealership have been and are therefore aware of the problem. Infiniti Consumer Affairs nor the dealership want to assume any responsibility for the malfunction. An inspection has not been performed yet. Infiniti Consumer Affairs requires me to assume responsibility for the cost of a rental during the 6 - 8 week inspection of my vehicle along with the cost of any storage fees. The vehicle can be inspected at Infiniti of Cool Springs. It’s been there since the incident.

A software error may deactivate the audio/video control unit screen, preventing the rear-view image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Consequence: A rear-view camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will update the control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 14, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R21A9.

- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:SPINDLE
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020 Nissan Murano, INFINITI QX60, 2021 Nissan GT-R, INFINITI QX50, and Q50 vehicles. The front steering knuckle or rear axle housing may have insufficient strength due to improper heat-treatment.
- Consequence: The steering knuckle or rear axle could deform upon impact, such as from hitting a curb, resulting in a loss of steering control, or possible wheel separation. Both of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the front steering knuckle and rear axle housing, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 26, 2021. Nissan owners may contact customer service at 1-800-867-7669. INFINITI owners may contact customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (INFINITI) is recalling certain 2021 INFINITI Q50 and Q60 vehicles. After detecting rapid acceleration, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may incorrectly reduce engine power and reduce fuel supply to the engine.
- Consequence: A lack of fuel may cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: INFINITI will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ECM software, free of charge. The recall began on May 25, 2021. Owners may contact INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200. INFINITI's number for this recall is R20C5.

I see that you've owned an Infiniti G35 and a 2014 Q50 before trading in for your 2019 Q50 Red Sport 400. In my opinion, while the German companies may offer faster cars and nicer interiors in this category, they can't beat the bang-for-the-buck that the Red Sport 400 provides. Dollar for dollar, it's hard to find a car that can compete with it. Although the interior may be a little outdated, I absolutely love it! It's a fantastic, stealthy, daily-driver that can match the straight-line performance of most sports cars, yet with surprisingly good mpg. 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds is impressive! Just make sure the baby-seat is strapped down tight! Personally, I would keep the extra $20k in my bank account instead of going for the German cars. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

This is actually my second Q50S Red Sport and I must say, it's a real screamer with 400hp and 350lb torque. Driving it is an absolute blast and it's definitely a great value for the money. However, there are a few downsides to it such as the exhaust note which sounds like a Ford Focus, 19

Now that the warm weather has finally arrived and Covid 19 seems to be more under control, I've been venturing out more in my Infiniti. It has the perfect combination of luxury and power that my spouse and I both love. I've owned luxury cars in the past, but none have been as much fun to drive as the Infiniti Q50. I have absolutely no regrets about my purchase.

My husband and I have been loyal Infiniti lessees for over a decade, having owned a total of four Infinitis. Unfortunately, our latest 2018 q50 has been quite a challenge. We have had to replace the transmission twice, all four tires, and the lock on the back door is currently not functioning. Despite having no accidents and only driving 20,000 miles in three years, we have had to take the car in for repairs numerous times. This has been especially difficult for us as we were pregnant and working as health workers during the pandemic, when loaner cars were not always available. One time, we even had to climb through the front of the car to get to our newborn in the back when the back door lock broke. We expected a reliable luxury car, but instead, it has felt like a broken-down old car. We are disappointed and will not be leasing an Infiniti again. We are looking forward to returning this car.

The car was very small, but I loved that it had a sporty and flashy look. Unfortunately, I had to trade it in because I'm 6ft tall and weigh 240 pounds, so I was too big for this car. Although I enjoyed its speed and ability to move through traffic quickly, I disliked how low it was to the ground. I only owned the car for a little over two years.

I empathize with the person who now owns this car. It's unfortunate to hear about the safety concerns with the q50 and the lack of concern from the manufacturer. However, I'm glad to hear that sales have fallen. I had some issues with my own q50, such as drifting to the right and a blown-out tire, but unfortunately, roadside assistance was not helpful. Despite these issues, I still had to purchase new tires and replace the rim. It's frustrating that the manufacturer claims the car is designed to drift to the right, but I can't find any evidence to support this. It's important to note that cars are designed to fight roadcrown, and I've never owned a car that felt so unsafe. I had to pay a significant amount to fix the issue with the lower control arm bushings, which were defective and leaking. Additionally, the fuel rails were also defective and leaking gas. Despite these challenges, I have put 25k miles on the car.
