2022 Ford Maverick problems
The Ford Maverick is a compact car manufactured and marketed by Ford for model years 1970–1977 in the United States, originally as a two-door sedan employing a rear-wheel drive platform original to the 1960 Falcon — and subsequently as a four-door sedan on the same platform. The Maverick replaced the Falcon in most of the world, but Australia kept selling and developing the Falcon.
The Maverick was also manufactured in Venezuela, Canada, Mexico, and from 1973 to 1979, in Brazil.
The name "maverick" was derived from the word for unbranded range animals, and the car's nameplate was stylized to resemble the head of Longhorn cattle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-11
- VIN: 3FTTW8E36NR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: vehicle suddenly lost power while travelling at freeway speeds, and decelerated to 35 mph with no speed control. All electrical systems showed warning lights, and I was suddenly driving 30 mph under traffic speeds at a freeway interchange with no escape lanes or emergency lanes for half a mile. I am a paramedic with extensive EVOC training, and I can say with my extensive experience that this was a near-fatal situation, only avoided by the attentive drivers around me, and I almost created chain collisions attempting to maneuver to the side until there was a breakdown lane accessible. Vehicle had all electrical systems in warning, and vehicle automatically set the parking break before I put it in park. I attempted to restart the vehicle several times with no success. The vehicle entered a battery mode which did not allow use of the accelerator pedal, and automatically drove the care at 30-35 mph with only breaking control to control speed. I was able to limp the vehicle off the freeway in the breakdown lane, and move it to a safe location. This event was an extreme hazard to myself and all around me, and I compliment the semi driver behind me on his quick response to the sudden deceleration of my vehicle. Note I own 2 of these vehicles, a 2022 and a 2023, and both have experienced this issue.
POWER TRAIN,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-15

Luckily I am able to get in because I have Ford number combination unlock but this can be a serious issue for others. I also have been dealing with bad CV boot issues. Passenger side CV boot leaked and made the truck wobble at around 22k miles. Driver side CV boot is now having issues at 24k miles. This is problem is known in the forums and the mileage before CV goes bad can vary. Ford is currently fixing but no new parts or modifications are made to CV that will make the part better.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

Check engine light and multiple codes/warnings illuminated on dash. Vehicle could not be moved or shifted into neutral. Waited 10-15 minutes before 2nd attempt, parking brake still failed to disengage. Then waited for 3 hours for third attempt, at which point emergency brake successfully disengaged. Check engine light no longer lit and no codes/warnings present on dash. Nothing changed or was done to the truck between the 2nd and 3rd attempt. Reproduction: Will drop off at dealer for confirmation in coming weeks. SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-13
- VIN: 3FTTW8E33NR
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: Like many others with the Ford Maverick I started experiencing shaking of the truck on the highway which progressively got worse. Upon check it was 2 bad CV axles which seems to be go bad prematurely. This was at around 20,000. The truck has about 37,000 now and it is starting to happen again slowly which I am sure in the next 5000-10000 It will get worse and worse. How many more complaints from owners will Ford make a replacement part that is up to par with quality and not replace it every 20,000? This is dangerous.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-07
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 3FTTW8E30NR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS
- Summary: Front passenger seat, seat heating element malfunctioned - created a small fire and smoke produced. Dealership diagnosed as 'a couple of hot spots that burned through the cover.' It is available for inspection. Fire hazard caused burn on passenger, smoke inhalation. Smoke/fire started while driving at 55mph, resulted in sudden breaking and pulling off the road. Yes, the dealer found hot spots that caused the burning - but take no responsibility for the issue as that car has 56000 miles. No, it has only been inspected by Ford dealership. No warning lamps, no symptoms until physical burning sensation prior to the smoke/fire.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-16
- VIN: 3FTTW8E33NR
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: After completing all recalls at the dealer, most recently the PCM re-programming, my 2022 Maverick Hybrid engine would just stop running with no warning. Electrical system was intact, there was no response to the gas pedal. Car would just slow down and I had to pull over. I pressed the stop button, sat for a few seconds and pushed it again and the vehicle started and ran properly. This has happened three times over the past 3 months (most recently on [XXX]) while driving at night at highway speeds, during the day at 50 mph and 35 mph. All acted the same way. I only caught what may have been a part of a warning message on the dash that I believe said "connected" after the first incident. The truck has been at the West Richmond, VA Ford dealership for the past 10 days and they have not been able to diagnose the problem. This is a very dangerous situation and I can't drive the vehicle until a fix has been found and implemented. The NHTSA issued a report on a similar situation back in April of this year (24V267000) so it appears like Ford has not provided their dealers with a satisfactory answer to this problem. My truck did not exhibit an electrical shutdown or flash numerous trouble codes or the check engine light. The engine simply shuts off for no apparent reason. The technicians see nothing recorded in the onboard computer(s) either. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-02
- VIN: 3FTTW8E3XNR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-10
- VIN: 3FTTW8F98NR
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Both front cv axles failed at 55,000 miles causing shake while accelerating
STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-21
- VIN: 3FTTW8E3XNR
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: At approximately 41k miles driven, and upon accelerating and at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle began to vibrate and shimmy. Some days the shimmy is slight, other days it was severe. Only happens with the gas pedal pressed. Resolves when gas pedal is not engaged. Took to dealer 8.26.2024 and confirmed CV Joint failure. TBD on warranty repair in the next few days. Since it is common knowledge that CV Joints should last 80k-100k miles, this is not acceptable and a danger to passenger, driver, and others on the road. Also, there is marked chatter among Maverick owners via online forums who are also encountering early failure of the CV Joints. Thank you for your prompt investigation into this dangerous situation and important safety matter.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-15

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-19
- VIN: 3FTTW8E37NR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I reported an odor coming from my vehicle and took it to the Ford dealership to get checked. Nothing was found by the dealer. I continued to notice a strong odor. Recently, when cleaning my car, I removed the floor mat and found a puddle of water underneath. I removed a small panel in the dash and could see water leaking when I ran climate control. It was leaking all over multiple electrical components so I have been hesitant to drive. The water will not dry or drain and has begun to mold.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-17
- VIN: 3FTTW8E32NR
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The CV axle on my 2022 Ford Maverick keeps failing. Has been repaired/replaced 3 times same Ford dealership completing repairs. It starts with shuddering and shaking when accelerating then a clicking noise and unable to keep vehicle straight. Lucky enough no accidents where caused, however the second time this happened I was on interstate going at least 75mph the clicking started then could not control the vehicle, couldn't maintain lane. I am a little surprised how lightly the issue is precevied. It's becoming routine like getting oil change and cv axles are changed out. I making this complaint because after 3rd time it is starting to have same symptoms again and drivability of vehicle.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-01
- VIN: 3FTTW8F9XNR
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: I ordered my truck with all terain tires, they installed Falken wildpeak A/T AT3W 235 65R 17 tires. When me vehicle sits for a while (especially when its cold out) .I get a vibration for the first few miles down the road then it goes away. I have taken it to the dealer they are blameing the issue on the Falken tires, they said these tires develop a flat spot after sitting for a while. So they didnt think it was going to hurt my vehicle so they where not going to replace them.Seeing how I paid extra for all terrain tires and they installed these tires I don't think that was the correct action on there part.

The Maverick XLT was definitely worth the wait! Although I had to wait a whole year from when I ordered it in June 2021 to when I received it in June 2022, I'm so glad I didn't lose my patience and cancel the order. It's a fantastic little truck! I haven't put many miles on it yet (only about 3,000), but I'm already loving driving it. I opted for the eco-boost gas engine and while my mileage is only in the high 20s, I'm still pretty happy with it. It's not a luxury ride, but it's perfect for me!

We pre-ordered the Maverick XLT Hybrid in 2021 and received it in late 2022, which made us very happy. This pick-up truck is not only cute and sassy, but also affordable and boasts great hybrid fuel economy for new owners. We received lots of inquiries and two thumbs up from unknown onlookers. Although there are no fog lamps for a $37k vehicle, which is not typical of most on the road, many are delighted by the savings to the wallet, compact size and stylish design. One strange thing is the design of the entertainment display screen with its vacant cubby compartment nestled beside the unit, as it would have been better to expand the screen size. However, it does not have the power of a F150, Bronco and Ranger, but it is still worth considering and test driving one as more are coming. UPDATE: This is the first time we bought a small pick-up truck, and it has been amazing on fuel savings in a crazy world with economic high cost uncertainties. The first few months were hair pulling as I tried to tabulate a consistent range on a full tank of gas, and it fluctuated like a barometer. Three months into owning it, the Maverick XLT Hybrid 2022 averages 823 km on a full tank of gas using the electric economy drive mode about 85% of the time for local driving. It has a lot of positive features with some drawbacks like no handle grip bar above the driver, unlike our former 2018 Escape. There is a limited range in retracting the driver's seat but it is, nevertheless, a comfortable ride. We got the cactus gray exterior and added cargo liner, sunroof, molded floor mats and managed to get the heated steering wheel before Ford changed it in the 2023 model XLT I was told. It was disappointing to see some added perks missing that should have been installed like lighted vanity mirrors and a light inside the passenger's side glove compartment. The cubby hole next to the window entertainment screen can be a bit tricky to fill, but websites like Etsy, Amazon, and Aliexpress offer some great ideas with Mustang logo cover plates and cell phone holder inserts. The Maverick has a great turn radius and spacious cargo box for a smaller truck. It usually takes me about 25 days to deplete the gasoline and fill it once a month for $110.00 Cdn. If you commute about 20km/day, it would last about 30 days. The rear seats are comfortable for tall people, unlike some other cars like the Tesla 3. The Maverick is not only economical (Hybrid) but can adapt to any change in scenery and handles well in about 14 inches of snow on the West Coast of Canada. To be frank, the braking system is great and there is good storage under the rear seats, even with the hidden hybrid battery. The Maverick is also made with some recycled materials, which is something other manufacturers should follow. It is a lower ride than others like the Bronco, but we feel it is better than the former 2018 Escape, which was a crossover design. Like our former 2011 Ford Escape, the Maverick has impressed our family. Remember, this is just my customer review and others might have different opinions. Give it a try, as it is far more affordable than most other options. The gas mileage range is slightly lower in cold weather due to the use of heat vents, heated seats, and steering wheel, but on a full tank of gas, we can still get about 700km range in winter months.

This Maverick Hybrid is an amazing smaller truck that has exceeded my expectations. It gets an average of 40MPG and costs 27,440 plus tax and fees. I want to give a big shoutout to Ford for doing a great job, and to Downs Ford Toms River for being a fantastic and honest dealership.

I picked up (pun intended) mine a couple of days ago. It has a smooth, crossover/SUV feel. It's not luxurious, but quirky rather than cheap, as some describe it. I want to clarify that I saw a review that said it has crank windows, but that's not true. As a landlord, I've already moved a pair of appliances with it and it was very capable for that small task. By the way, did you know that you can get a $500 rebate for the $50 membership fee when you join Farm Bureau?

I purchased my 2022 2.0EB Maverick XL from a dealer on 11/19/21. I paid MSRP and was able to get 0% financing for the month from Ford. I added some great features to my truck, including a soft roll-up tonneau cover, front splash guards, window air deflectors, deluxe floor mats, and a hood deflector. To protect the bed of my truck, I made a bed mat from a 4'x6' 3/4

The hybrid model has proven to be unreliable, with persistent issues over the last 4 months, despite 2 repair attempts. The engine rattles and shakes the car every time it idles. It is recommended to consider other options instead of this truck.

I have been driving my '22 Lariat 2.0 FWD for six months now. While I am generally satisfied with the vehicle, I have noticed that the driving position could be improved. Specifically, I find the accelerator pedal to be too vertical and the brake pedal to be too high, making it difficult to perform heel and toe driving. Additionally, the power seat must be raised all the way up to be flat, as it tilts back in lower positions. Despite these issues, I remain confident that I will find a comfortable driving position.

The car has had some issues since the beginning, such as the radio and Bluetooth not working for hours every so often, airbag light on and seatbelt errors, shifting issues with long shifts after reaching 10k, and a smell of rotten eggs since day 1, which I suspect is a cat problem. The gas mileage is around 20-25mpg and the tires only lasted 14k before needing replacement. The brakes have also been grabbing since day one. Currently, the check engine light is on and the transmission is stuck in first gear, and the car has been at Ford for 25k for repairs. They have said it will take 10 days before they can diagnose the issue. As a Maverick owner, I am not impressed. However, I wish good luck to other Maverick owners. The transmission failure is being rebuilt by Ford and should be completed within 3 weeks.

I recently purchased a 2022 Ford Maverick XL with a 2.0L Ecoboost engine, trailer hitch, and Co-Pilot 360. While I am generally happy with my purchase, I do have a couple of concerns. Firstly, I was disappointed to find that the Pre-Collision Assist with Auto Braking feature, which I paid extra for, does not actually apply the brakes automatically as advertised. Instead, it only provides a visual and audible warning. Secondly, the steering wheel controls on my XL model are opposite to what is shown on the Ford website and owner's manual, which has caused some confusion. Despite these issues, I am still enjoying my new truck and hope that Ford will address these concerns in the future.

Hey there! Have you noticed how loud it can get in the cabin when you're driving on the highway? It can be really tough to have a conversation with all that noise!
