1995 Jeep Wrangler problems
The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex.
The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Although neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model — both the CJ Jeeps and the conceptually consistent Wrangler, with their solid axles and open top, have been called the Jeep model as central to Jeep's brand identity as the rear-engine 911 is to Porsche.
Similar to the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid live axles both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers, by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included trackbars and anti-roll bars, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.
From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler Unlimited. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over 20 in (508 mm) more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

Common 1995 Jeep Wrangler problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Jeep Wrangler 1995, several common problems have been reported. Here is a detailed list of these issues:
- Exhaust Manifold Bolt Failure:
- The manifold's constant shrinking and expanding can lead to mounting stud fractures and misshapen manifolds.
- This issue can stretch the bolts, causing them to fail, potentially requiring a new manifold.
- An exhaust manifold replacement typically costs between $950 and $1,100.
- Body Damage:
- Due to the Wrangler's off-roading nature, older models are more likely to have body damage.
- Repair panels for 1987-1995 Wranglers are available to address dented and damaged body parts.
- Oil Leaks:
- Older vehicles like the 1995 Wrangler are prone to oil leaks despite good maintenance.
- Diagnosing the source of oil leaks can be challenging due to multiple systems within the vehicle.
- Different fluid colors can help pinpoint the source of leaks, such as amber for engine oil, red for transmission fluid, and various colors for other fluids.
These issues highlight some of the common problems faced by owners of the Jeep Wrangler 1995 model, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance and prompt repairs to ensure the vehicle's longevity and performance.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2004-07-01
- VIN: 1J4FY19P2SP
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: I PURCHASED A 1995 JEEP WRANGLER RIO GRANDE EDITION JAN 2003. IT HAD 103,000 MILES ON IT AND IS IN GREAT CONDITION. AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS I STARTED TO HEAR A COLD ENGINE KNOCKING IN THE 2.5L ENGINE. I HAD MECHANICLS CHECK THE LOWER END AND ALL LOOKED GOOD. I ALSO REPLACED THE OIL PUMP, LIFTERS, PUSHRODS AND ROCKER ARMS AND THE NOISE IS STILL THERE UNTIL THE ENGINE WARMS UP. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2.5L, AND 4.0L ENGINES THAT DC PRODUCED FROM 1991 - 1995 WHICH IS PISTON SLAP WHEN THE ENGINES GET OVER 70,000 MILES ON THEM. I ALSO FOUND A CLASS ACTION SUITE AGAINST DC CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM AND THE CONSUMERS WON WITH THE OPTIONS OF A NEW ENGINE, GOOD TRADE IN ON ANOTHER CAR OR GREAT DISCOUNTS ON DEALER ITEMS. I CALLED DC AND ALSO WROTE A LETTER ABOUT MY PROBLEM AND THIS LAW SUITE. THE REPLY I GOT WAS THAT BASICALY SUCKS TO BE ME AND THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND THEY WILL NOT CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. SO NOW I EITHER REPLACE MY ENGINE THAT WILL COST ME OVER 2,000 OR HOPE AND PRAY WHEN I DRIVE THAT IT WILL NOT DESTROY ITSELF. I AM IN THE COAST GUARD AND MY JEEP IS MY TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM WORK AND I DONT GET ALOT OF MONEY THAT I CAN JUST THROW AROUND ON A NEW ENGINE WHEN I JUST BOUGHT THE JEEP LAST YEAR. IF I DID NOT LIKE JEEPS SO MUCH I WOULD DRIVE IT TO THIER FACTORY AND PARK IT THERE TILL THEY FIX IT. *AK

- Summary: I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF A 1995 WRANGLER. THROUGH WARRANTY, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED IN SEPTEMBER 1999. LESS THAN 15K MILES LATER, I AM TOLD THE CONVERTER MUST BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE DEALER REFERRED ME TO CHRYSLER WHO HAVE OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE WHATSOEVER. IF I PURCHASE A CATALYTIC CONVERTER, I RECEIVE A ONE YEAR WARRANTY. CHRYSLER PROVIDES AN 8 YEAR WARRANTY ON IT FROM THE DATE OF "IN SERVICE" OF THE VEHICLE (1995). THE REPLACEMENT DUE TO NO FAILURE OR MISUSE ON MY PART MAKES NO PROVISION FOR ANY EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY AND I AM TOLD NO ONE HAS ANY DISCRETIONARY AUTHORITY ON THIS MATTER. APPARENTLY, THE OEM CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISN'T WORTH THE ENDORSEMENT. GUESS I WON'T GET THAT SECOND JEEP - CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP UP THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER PURCHASES IT REQUIRES, ESPECIALLY WITH THE WORTHLESS WARRANTY ISSUES!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my Jeep. It's been a great second vehicle for me and my son to enjoy off-road and around town. I've loved every minute of it! It's simple to maintain, reliable, and cheap to operate. Although I don't take it on the highway much due to the road noise and bikini top, it's still a joy to drive. The four-cylinder engine is a bit slow off the line, but it's more than adequate for casual driving and off-road fun. The gas mileage is reasonable considering the gearing (4.10's, stock) and boxy body style. If you're looking for a cheap around-town vehicle or a great little convertible, it's hard to beat an older body style Jeep. Plus, they're darn near impossible to stop off-road!

My wife and I bought this car brand new as her first car, and we have been extremely satisfied with it. We have driven it for slightly over 66K miles and it has never given us any trouble. Although it struggles to climb Teton Pass, it has taken us everywhere we wanted to go. The car is tough and economical, making it a great choice. We love driving it around town as it is easy to maneuver, can fit into small parking spaces, and has a high enough ground clearance to see around most cars and trucks.

I bought my Jeep brand new in '95 and it has never broken down! I've had three other cars since then, but I never sold my Jeep. It will hold its value for years. Whether at the beach or in the snow, the Jeep always steps up and performs. You won't be let down!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with this Jeep that I purchased from a young lady. Although it wasn't in the best condition, I was able to get it running smoothly after changing the fluids and tuning it up. While it may not be the best option for a long commute and the top can be a bit tedious to put up, it's an absolute blast to drive and these vehicles hold their value incredibly well. Additionally, it's very rugged and easy to work on. The short wheelbase may not make for the smoothest highway ride, but it does provide unbelievable maneuverability. While I couldn't afford a TJ, this Jeep has served me very well. Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts!

Your best friend gave you this car as a gift two years ago. Although it needed some work, you were able to replace the rusted-out floorboards, install a new battery, headlights, radiator, and other parts. You did most of the work yourself and even painted the outside with raptor liner. On average, it gets 20 mpg and can handle any terrain when in 4wd. While it may not be the most comfortable ride on long trips, it's still a blast to drive, especially with the top off.

We purchased this car 8 years ago for our 16-year-old son. He drove it until he went to college, and now my husband uses it as his daily vehicle. He absolutely loves it! Although it may not be the prettiest car to look at now, my husband wouldn't give it up for anything.

The gas mileage may not be the best for a 4 cylinder, especially if you plan on using oversized tires. However, it's important to note that every car has its strengths and weaknesses. While this car may not have as much power as an 8 cylinder Firebird, it still has its own unique features that make it a great choice for off-road use. It's true that the suspension is a bit loose, but this is a common characteristic of Jeeps. Overall, it's important to consider your specific needs and preferences before making a decision.

Your Wrangler has an impressive 95,000 miles on it and has been driven both on- and off-road in all kinds of weather, yet it still remains your favorite vehicle to drive. It's great to hear that you've used it to shuttle medical personnel during weather emergencies without any issues, even with the added weight. Although the exhaust has rusted through twice, it's good to know that there aren't many other negatives to mention. While it may not be the best vehicle for long highway drives, it's perfect for fun two or three-hour drives or trips to the beach with the top down.

I think the Jeep might be better suited for someone who enjoys off-roading frequently, as it didn't quite meet my expectations as a daily driver. The 4 cylinder engine didn't perform as well as I had hoped and the gas mileage wasn't great either. Additionally, the soft top made for an uncomfortable highway ride and the hard upper doors would have been an expensive upgrade. While I did experience some minor reliability issues, they were resolved after a few trips to the shop. Overall, I would suggest considering other options, but if you're looking for a fun weekend or summer vehicle, the Jeep could be a good choice.
