Ford Maverick problems

The Ford Maverick is a compact car manufactured and marketed by Ford for model years 1970–1977 in the United States, originally as a two-door sedan employing a rear-wheel drive platform original to the 1960 Falcon — and subsequently as a four-door sedan on the same platform. The Maverick replaced the Falcon in most of the world, but Australia kept selling and developing the Falcon.
The Maverick was also manufactured in Venezuela, Canada, Mexico, and from 1973 to 1979, in Brazil.
The name "maverick" was derived from the word for unbranded range animals, and the car's nameplate was stylized to resemble the head of Longhorn cattle.

Ford Maverick 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-18
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-18
- VIN: 3FTTW8F9XPR
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: This vehicle will reduce or cut throttle application/response relative to how many degrees the steering wheel is turning. When trying to pull out in traffic if you have the wheel turned beyond a set angle the throttle doesn't respond as expected and acceleration is greatly reduced. It will also cut the throttle if you pull out and then turn only to fully accelerate as the wheel is straightened out again. Two very dangerous examples I've experienced are 1: pulling onto a "freeway" that has a few side roads with perpendicular access. With the wheel turned the truck is very slow to accelerate when first pulling onto the expressway but suddenly will as the wheel is straightened. 2: When going across 2 lanes of traffic and making a turn to join traffic the truck will accelerate as expected across the first lanes, loose power as you turn, and then accelerate fully again as the wheel is straightened. While an argument could be made to just sit and wait until there is more time to join traffic, there are moments when being able to accelerate hard are necessary. This vehicle will either not accelerate or will reduce acceleration based on angles of steering. I believe this is a dangerous situation that most experienced drivers are not going to be expecting when they have to join fast moving traffic. Following web forums this is an issue other owners have experienced.

The 2023 Hybrid Maverick is an excellent vehicle with a smooth and quiet ride, large media display, and impressive safety features such as side view mirror alerts and lane assist with co-pilot 360 features. While the ECO driving mode needs to be reset each time the engine starts, it should be the default on the Hybrid. We highly recommend ordering exactly what you want and not letting sales convince you to pay for unnecessary add-ons. Overall, the 2023 Hybrid Maverick is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a reliable and efficient vehicle.

(Not sure why there's no option for this in the vehicle details, but I am reviewing the XLT trim with the 2.0L Ecoboost Motor, not the 2.5L Hybrid) Hi there! I was in need of a new vehicle and wanted to get something with better gas mileage than my SUV but didn't want to give up the utility I had with the SUV. This little mini-truck came along at the perfect time. I absolutely love that the styling is practical and no-nonsense. It's very clean looking and the design is very practical. Unlike other trucks, it doesn't have any stupid stylish slanted buttresses blocking part of the truck bed, making it harder to load large items over the side. The grill design is also not stupid and wannabe modern art. It honestly handles great, it drives more like a light SUV than a truck. It's built off the Escape platform which could explain that. But it definitely feels nimble and light, yet still has the utility of a truck bed. The build quality is quite nice, except for the flimsy sun shades. But that seems pretty standard in most cheaper cars nowadays. And I was kind of hesitant coming from a V6 to the Ecoboost 4-cylinder, but I'm pleasantly surprised. This thing has quite a bit of oomph when you need it, which is nice. I love that you still have the option of using an actual key to turn on the ignition. I can go on for a while why that's actually better, but that's personal preference. Actually having knobs and buttons for the A/C and radio instead of putting them on the touchscreen is much better for safety, so I'm glad Ford kept that standard. The keypad to unlock the doors is another standard feature I'm glad Ford kept around. It's actually extremely useful. Overall, if you want the utility of a truck bed but you don't need to do anything super heavy duty like constantly towing large loads or anything, this is the best little mini-truck on the market in my opinion. And the fact that it's also the most affordable one is a huge bonus... I hope this helps you make an informed decision!

A hybrid TRUCK with 4 seats. This truck is great and fits all of my city dweller needs. It averages over 37 mpg and has lots of cool, inexpensive mods available. The only downside is that the base model doesn't have HD radio.

Coming down to earth from a F150 FX4, you'll notice that the ground is much closer, but don't worry, the ride is still comfortable and the surroundings are pleasurable. Our Tremor trim level was added onto a Lariat, so we have a higher comfort level in this peppy little truck. The Ford Co-Pilot 360 has many features, some of which are very helpful once you learn how to negotiate them. The intelligent cruise is nice when driving in traffic, and you are automatically corralled with the rest. On the open road, pay attention or you could follow the vehicle ahead like a timid little sheep, never getting close enough to pass. :-) A safe lane change in a timely fashion easily resolves this, and the blind-spot alert keeps you from upsetting other drivers. The lane assist is helpful when going through an area with sights to see along the way. As a runner, I often have drivers drift towards me when they see me ahead. As I get older, I find myself drifting more often, and this feature is welcome. We are still new at this, but already my wife wants to drive more often... Unfortunately, the Type selection down below does not allow me to pick this exclusive little beauty she fell in love with from the outset... It is not the hybrid, but the 2-liter engine is as strong as 250 horses with the 8-speed automatic transmission. My ultimate pleasure is the B&O sound system. As a 16-year-old boy, I was introduced to this, now too expensive to afford high-fi system…unless you can find some pieces on EBay…While in the truck, I can enjoy the clarity as I gently cruise along...I am a gas-mileage freak and I have this purring at almost 30 miles per gallon...

I've been wanting one of these since I first read about their release. Although I considered a hybrid, orders were closed by the time I decided to place an order. I ended up getting an AWD 2.0T XL model with Copilot 360 and a hitch. It took about 5 months to get it, but so far, I really like it. CoPilot 360 adds power mirrors, and there are cost-effective ways of adding cruise control, both of which XL does not come standard with. Otherwise, you're getting a lot of vehicle for not a lot of money. The interior is quite plasticky, but it looks okay and feels well put together. The 2.0T needs a second to build power, but it is strong once it does. The ride and handling are great. It is a little stiff, but very controlled, and it does not buck or skip around at all. I did upgrade the base steel wheels to alloys, but some people like the look of the base wheels. It is all the truck I need and a great value if you can get one at or below MSRP.

In 2021, Ford promised to make 'product quality' a reason to buy a Ford. Unfortunately, the Maverick falls short of this promise. While the paint and overall size are impressive, the interior, ride quality, media, road noise, fit/finish, and transmission leave much to be desired. The plastic Ford uses for the interior scratches easily and various bits are misaligned. The windshield was not installed correctly, and the alignment pin keeps rattling. However, Ford is aware of the installation issues and has corrected this. The suspension transmits a lot of noise into the cabin and is very harsh on gravel/rougher roads, which adds to the number of rattles in the interior. The media system consistently drops communication when using the wireless, and hands-free talk sounds like an AM radio at best. Road noise is also a big issue, with wind noise coming through the door seals and door handles. In crosswinds, the poorly attached felt-lined panel will vibrate, causing more road noise. The exterior is not much better, with both rear door seal covers not properly attached, and the fuel door being a push to open and will pop open when meeting larger trucks on two-lane highways. The hood is also poorly made, with the metal being so thin that you can actually dent it with your finger. On the highway, the transmission is not too bad with the 2.0L engine. Overall, while the Maverick has its flaws, it still has some impressive features. The 0l turbo engine in this vehicle struggles with gear changes during city and rural driving, and tends to overheat. As the transmission temperature rises, the shifts become harsher. While Ford does not offer manual control of the automatic transmission like on the Bronco Sport, trying different modes can help to some extent. However, eventually, it may feel like the transmission is slipping during shifts. Additionally, the fresh air intake for the HVAC system is located below and under the back edge of the hood, which gives the vehicle a clean look but allows a lot of heat transfer from the engine bay to get into the intake. This causes a couple of problems, such as increased use of the A/C since the system can't grab cool air, and more condensation on the windshield on moderately cool days because some engine bay air makes its way into the intake. Another issue is the battery, which tends to drain quickly, with a warning appearing after just 5 days of sitting that remote features are disabled. In summary, while this vehicle has some issues, it may be worth considering a Honda Ridgeline, which is built to a higher standard.

I was thrilled when my Maverick finally arrived after placing the order in August 2022 and receiving it in June 2023. Although I have a Lincoln that I love, I find the Maverick to be very comfortable in every way. The acceleration when passing is great and it is quieter than my Lincoln. Even my son, who is a big man at 6'5'' with broad shoulders, was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the ride was during a 3000 mile trip. My granddaughter, who was his passenger, agreed that the ride was comfortable too. However, we did experience some issues with the battery. The dealership towed it twice and determined that it was a defective battery. Although I was concerned about the battery not recharging itself while driving, I was reassured that this is a different kind of battery and that the problem shouldn't recur. Fortunately, the battery died both times while parked in my driveway. Overall, I am still happy with my Maverick and will continue to use it for local driving.Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the Maverick. I've noticed that it hasn't been as reliable as I had hoped, and I've seen others online who have had similar issues. I was a bit disappointed that the warranty doesn't cover the cost of a rental car if the Maverick fails, but I understand that these things happen. I do have a second car, so it's not a huge inconvenience for me, but I can see how it might be for others. Overall, I think it's important to be aware of the potential issues with this car before making a purchase. Thanks for listening!

One year and 13k miles after delivery, I am happy to report that my XLT Hybrid Lux pkg has been a great little rig. The interior is a refreshing change from the usual black, and the heated seats and steering wheel are a nice touch. Parking is a breeze, and I've been getting pretty good average mileage of 35 mpg, which I've calculated using both the odometer and a fill-up spreadsheet. The stereo is decent, and the control layout is well thought out. While I did experience a wiring harness failure and a need for exhaust manifold and side curtain airbag replacement, overall this vehicle has exceeded my expectations. It even handles snow well with snow tires. Although I have some concerns about the build quality, there's really nothing else out there that can compete with its size and fuel economy. I can't think of anything I'd rather replace it with.

Yes, it's a nice looking truck and the drive is good. The acceleration is fine and it feels fine too. However, there are a few little things that ruin the experience. The acceleration is a bit noisy and it feels like the transmission is slipping, which can be annoying. The stop/start feature is a matter of preference, but it feels like the start is delayed and not quick enough for some maneuvers. There is a switch to turn it off, but it needs to be done every time you turn the engine on. The monitor for radio and other electronics sometimes freezes and/or there is no sound, but it resets after turning the car off. Sometimes it stays frozen for a long time, which shouldn't be happening in a 6-month-old truck. The front door storage is practically unusable. Ford and many reviewers made a big deal about how clever the design is, but it doesn't work. The place for bottles is so shallow that they can't stay straight and fall the moment you start driving. If you don't mind these little issues, the truck is fine. My model is XLT, 4 turbo.
