2024 Ford Maverick problems
The Ford Maverick is a compact car manufactured and marketed by Ford for model years 1970–1977 in the United States, originally as a two-door sedan employing a rear-wheel drive platform original to the 1960 Falcon — and subsequently as a four-door sedan on the same platform. The Maverick replaced the Falcon in most of the world, but Australia kept selling and developing the Falcon.
The Maverick was also manufactured in Venezuela, Canada, Mexico, and from 1973 to 1979, in Brazil.
The name "maverick" was derived from the word for unbranded range animals, and the car's nameplate was stylized to resemble the head of Longhorn cattle.

Common 2024 Ford Maverick problems
The Ford Maverick 2024, like any other vehicle, has its share of common problems that have been reported by its owners. These issues are not necessarily widespread, but they are worth noting for those considering purchasing this vehicle.
One of the most frequently reported problems is the oil leak issue. This issue is particularly common in used Ford Mavericks, especially those that have seen extensive off-road usage. The oil leakage can be caused by various factors, such as damaged oil pumps or filters. It is essential to identify the cause of the oil leak and replace the necessary parts to rectify the issue.
Another common problem with the Ford Maverick is differential issues. This problem is more prevalent in older models, particularly those that have been used for off-roading. The differential components may cause the vehicle to kick or hop slightly when taking corners, indicating an issue with the differential. Replacing the necessary differential parts, such as actuators, seals, and bearings, can help rectify this issue.
The electrical system is another area where Ford Maverick owners have reported issues. These issues range from defective batteries to radio and speaker systems becoming frozen due to faulty wiring. Identifying the cause of the electrical issue can be challenging, but replacing the necessary engine electrical parts or body electrical parts can help keep the Maverick running smoothly and safely on the roads.
Brake issues are also a common problem with the Ford Maverick. Some owners have reported sticking or grabbing brakes at lower speeds, which can be a safety concern. Replacing the necessary brake parts, such as brake pads and shoes, can help restore and improve the brakes on the Maverick.
Finally, rust issues are a significant problem with the Ford Maverick, particularly in older models. Rust can spread quickly once it has affected a portion of the vehicle, particularly in areas such as the wheel arches, undercarriage, and door bottoms. Treating or replacing the affected body and chassis elements can help rectify this issue.
In summary, the Ford Maverick 2024 has several common problems that owners have reported, including oil leak issues, differential problems, electrical system issues, brake issues, and rust issues. While these issues are not necessarily widespread, they are worth noting for those considering purchasing this vehicle. Regular maintenance and replacement of necessary parts can help keep the Maverick running smoothly and safely on the roads.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-03
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3FTTW8R96RR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Upon exiting my garage I always stop to close the door. My driveway has incline. I begin to roll back, hit the breaks several times with no engagement, begin pumping the brake pedal several times, no response. Continued to roll in reverse going across the street and hit neighbor's park car in their driveway. Police Officer noted that brake pedal was very low upon applying brakes and a hiss sound of like a vacuum or pressure lost. Reported a claim to insurance company. I never observed any indication of faults. Had truck toed to Greiner Ford to be inspected and or repaired. They said they could not find anything wrong with brake system or electronics. Since the incident I have reviewed by Ring camera video of that day and noticed that the DRL lights were flashing like a turn signal light which are not supposed to do. Truck is presently at Greiner Ford Collision Center for repair of damage to drive side rearend. I will have Greiner reinspect once collision damage is repaired and advise them of the flashing DRL's Other problems encountered prior to this incident: 1. Several times with adaptative cruise on and lane departure on there has been several notifications of cancelations were noted. 2. Several times horn has sounded when opening door with truck turned off. 3. Pre collision notification without anything in front of truck. I will also note that after receipt of new vehicle, approximately 1 to 2 months the truck was updated with new software.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-12
- VIN: 3FTTW8M3XRR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The vehicle goes into what they call a sleep mode. It shuts systems down to save the battery. At this point, it’s more of a nuisance than a major problem. Fortunately, every time I got in the vehicle, it started and was fine but what happens is it shuts down all the remote functions, you can’t use your app on the phone go to get in the car at night the interior lights aren’t working. It’s pitch black, just a inconvenience but Ford has no answer that answer was to shut down all the remote functions on the car to me that doesn’t make sense. Why have those features if you can’t use them?
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-27
- VIN: 3FTTW8H36RR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Backup camera can freeze or jump frames, particularly if you use shortly after starting the car. This makes it hard to trust the camera view.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-10
- VIN: 3FTTW8M39RR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: My wife and I purchased the NEW truck in May 2024. It now has 4970 miles and had our first issue Sept 10th. When we attempted to reverse out of the driveway, with the foot firmly on the brake and the start button engaged, the truck unexpectedly rolled out of the driveway. This alarming incident poses a significant safety risk, as the brake pedal was fully pressed, yet the truck was in motion. I drove back into the spot. Multiple check engine lights came on, and the ABS and parking brake faults were on. I called Ford and had it towed the next day. It is currently still in the Ford dealership shop. They gave us a rental car, thinking it was a faulty Electronic brake booster controller. Still waiting on ETR. My wife and I couldn't be more grateful that this happened in our driveway; this could have been a serious accident if it was to occur on the freeway.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-25
- VIN: 3FTTW8H3XRR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: While driving my hybrid Maverick on the interstate at approximately 75 mph, I accelerated to overtake another vehicle going up a slight hill (very slight). When it hit around 80mph, the power meter hit 100% and there was a momentary complete loss of power (peddle felt dead under foot) and vehicle started to decelerate. I let off the pedal and reapplied gently staying well below 50% power. The truck seemed to have less power for the remainder of the interstate drive but returned to normal after shutting off, restarting and driving again. A very dangerous situation on the interstate when you press the accelerator and change lanes to overtake someone only to start slowing down immediately. Have not visited dealership, vehicle has not been inspected by any third party, and no lamps messages or warnings on the dash or in the app.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
- VIN: 3FTTW8J97RR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: New 2024 Ford Maverick. 12,000 miles. At around 10K miles, a factory recall regarding the firmware driving the brake light system was performed. This has 'broken' the factory installed trailer braking system that applies braking to an attached trailer with electric brakes. This is very dangerous, since failed trailer braking can cause a severe accident. The factory system shows alerts on the dash: when a trailer is electrically connected to the truck, the system responds with "Trailer connected". And now, that same message appears, but as soon as you apply brakes, either physically or by the factory system, an alert says, "Trailer disconnected". This never happened before the recall was performed. Also, If you connect the trailer and the system says "trailer connected", if you adjust the braking 'gain' in the cab of the truck, the system says "no trailer", and yet the other alert says "trailer connected". This is a computer firmware fault. This has been recorded by other owners online.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-10
- VIN: 3FTTW8A34RR
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Exhaust flange clamp improperly installed during manufacturing process causing exhaust leak not identified until consumer noticed after approximately 40 miles of use. At time of writing dealership has not inspected. No warning lights or indicators. Audible sputtering heard when gas engine runs. Hybrid vehicle.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-17
- VIN: 3FTTW8B98RR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: At certain times, the touch screen will freeze, specifically, it had frozen on the navigation, which also didn't allow the back up camera to work/be displayed. The screen also got bery hot to the touch. This was about a 90° day. This has happened on several occasions. I have seen an almost exact problem on the maverick forum here. [XXX] And was compelled to also make a report to the nhtsa. I have a scheduled service appointment this coming Monday, August 12. So we will see how that goes. VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-26
- VIN: 3FTTW8M38RR
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I purchased a 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat Hybrid truck on [XXX] and have discovered a safety issue. When I operate the windshield washer, the washer fluid tank fully drains in about ten seconds. I can visually see the fluid level fall rapidly. Washer fluid sprays at a high velocity on my windshield until the tank is empty. There is no evidence of a fluid leak. Last week, I took the truck to a local Ford dealer. They were the ones who discovered the rapidly draining tank and they escorted me from the lounge area to the shop and showed it to me. Both the service writer and three mechanics standing at my truck stated that they had never seen anything like that occur before. The service writer brought over the service manager, who took a look and suggested that perhaps there was a problem with the nozzles. He also stated that he had never seen this issue before. The dealership ordered new nozzles. I returned to the dealership this afternoon to have the replacement nozzles installed. When the function of the windshield washer was tested, the bottle again drained in about ten seconds. One of the technicians then tested a new Ford F150 that is in the shop today and it also drained rapidly. I asked that a new Maverick on the lot be tested, which the dealership immediately did, and it also drained in about ten seconds. Evidently, Ford has an issue with this function on some of their new vehicles. Windshield washing is an important safety feature and it is not functioning as it should on these three tested vehicles. This problem was observed and verified as never having been seen before by a Ford service writer, three Ford mechanics, and a Ford service manager. The selling Ford dealer is Crossroads Ford of Wake Forest, NC and the servicing dealer is Deacon Jones Ford of Goldsboro, NC. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-03
- VIN: 3FTTW8M32RR
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Vehicle was on clear two lane road, no vehicles in sight to front, nor opposing lane, or even in Rear view. Speed between 45 and 50 mph. Vehicle was headed approximately south, and the road was shaded by trees to the west. Miles on odometer 1961.8 . Red warning appeared on dash, indicating to prepare for collision. We note that this is not the first time in the young life of this vehicle this warning has appeared, but that another time there was another vehicle, in its own lane, and slowing to the passenger side front, but not in any way moving into our lane. Then, later the same afternoon, about 18 miles later, and orange colored CANCEL appeared 2 times at about 66mph. There were about 1980 miles on the odometer, and in adaptive cruise control. I'm concerned that this "safety feature" has more possible error modes than Ford lists in its owner's operating manual, and that the faulty messages are a distraction, and possibly dangerous. As to the subject, "dangerous," we had previously submitted to NHTSA the occurrance of a dangerous automatic braking event when there was no need for braking, and we were in an express lane on Highway 680 with cars immediately behind. NHTSA has acknowledged receipt of that information. I had not noted on that there was no sudden change in roadway illumination (daytime) or orientation of the vehicle to the sun when that occurred. Monday of this same week I had just retrieved my vehicle from the dealer, whose technician had run what diagnostics they had available on events (apparently none recorded) and attempts to test for any malfunction of adaptive driver assist mode. Are we the only party experiencing random errors in the adaptive driving assist?
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-08

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-22
- VIN: 3FTTW8M32RR
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: These two failure types for 4 incidents may involve 3 components or 1 or 2 of the ADAS; Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking (Certainly,) and Forward Collision Warning: The first incident was at town speed when a vehicle to the immediate front right slowed to depart the turn land into a driveway, and my vehicle slowed abruptly, although the other was not in my path. A subsequent time, mine abruptly slowed under similar conditions and displayed the red imminent crash warning. A third time, it slowed abruptly on the freeway when a vehicle to the right front slowed. The fourth failure was on [XXX], headed [XXX] toward Fremont, when the vehicle, without any warning or signal on the screen, braked abruptly when I was in the express lane and traveling between 65 and 70 mph. The trucklet braked precipitously, and I quickly pulled past some pylons into a construction shoulder area to avoid a chain reaction collision! In a couple minutes it seemed to indicate things were normal, and I waited some minutes until I could re-enter the freeway from the left into the high speed express lane (!) and have been able to drive the next couple hundred miles without these jarring sorts of malfunctions. These constitute 4 separate incidents, three of which could have precipitated accidents. Who knows what's next? I have a service appointment for tomorrow morning to have the dealer's service department look at the issues I'm reporting. [XXX] [XXX] (land line). I'm reporting the last date only, the others were within the two previous weeks. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- VIN: 3FTTW8A9XRR
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: 2024 Ford Maverick with under 3K mileage. ALL 4 tires have visible sidewall buckling on outside & inside. None failed yet but as retire police / dot inspector, I know this is sidewall failure waiting to happen after only a couple thousand miles. Heck the "full size" Atlas 215/60/r17 spare is a totally different size (1.3 inches shorter) which is unusable on front wheel drive axle due to rotational differences. Made in Mexico. Ford does not have a "better idea". Should my local Ford dealer where the truck was purchased this year not correct this, I will contact an attorney. Know any decent civil attorneys? Ford dealer stated after looking at the tires, the sidewall on Continental tires have "normal seams".
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-18
- VIN: 3FTTW8H30RR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On March 18, 2024, my 2024 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid had just over 1,000 miles on it. That same night, approximately 20 yards before an upcoming stop sign, I got a big red triangle message on the dash saying STOP SAFELY NOW. When I finally got stopped at the STOP sign, everything shut down. No accelerator, now power and the transmission dial locked after I put it in Park. I could not get it in Neutral to push it out of the intersection. Since it is a front wheel drive vehicle, the front wheels locked also. Thank goodness my husband was with me, family members were traveling behind me AND I know a tow truck owner. Tow truck owner came came and used a code reader. It indicated that there were 9 errors related to HYBRID. He was able to clear 6 of them, but the truck still wouldn't start. He had to drag it up onto the flat bed because the front wheel were locked. He towed it to a local Ford Dealership. They initially said the smart junction box (a module that controls the hybrid battery) had a bad circuit and needed to be replaced (I'm not sure if they meant the smart junction box or the circuit...). The next day, the dealership called again and said they replaced the control module for the Hybrid Battery System. I got the truck back on the 4th day with no charge as everything was covered by warranty, including the tow. Overall, I was satisfied with how the dealership handled the issue. However, the incident seems a bad way to start an automobile relationship. In a group forum for Ford Maverick Hybrid Owners, I met a man who said the same thing happened to him on the highway! The vehicle slowed so quickly he was almost rear-ended by a tractor trailer. If it had to happen to me, I'm glad it happened on a rural back road vs. the four lane highway where I commute approximately 300 miles over 5 days per week. That's my concern - I am worried the same thing might happen to me on the highway with different results than the first time!

In the event that one of the rear turn signals stops working, the vehicle will not adjust the turn signal flash rate frequency to warn the driver that a turn signal is not working correctly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Consequence: A nonfunctioning exterior turn signal will not notify other drivers that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will update the body control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 16, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23C41.

The Maverick XLT is a well-planned vehicle that is enjoyable to drive, especially with the EcoBoost engine providing plenty of power! Have a great day!

Hey there! I noticed that the price might be a bit high. Is there any chance we could discuss it further?

Great little truck!! Lowest priced hybrid on the market. 40+ mpg/city. Everything they advertise about the vehicle has been proven to this owner. Very satisfied with my purchase.

Actual count from date of order to delivery was 704 days. Just clicked 1000 miles yesterday after 6 weeks of ownership. I'm really happy with my purchase so far! The car looks and runs great, and I'm averaging over 40 mpg. However, it's worth noting that the dealer's service care could be improved.

It's great to hear that you're enjoying your hybrid small truck! While it may be a bit rough on bumpy roads, the phenomenal mileage more than makes up for it. The upgraded features from the lower two models make it a worthwhile investment, especially for the comfortable seats and additional options. Even when fully loaded, the price is excellent and should be inexpensive to operate. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!

I test drove a 2023 Ford Maverick XLT today with a gas engine. I found it to be a bit jerky and loud on the freeway. The seat was also uncomfortable, which was disappointing. Overall, I didn't find it to be worth the investment. However, everyone has different preferences, so it's worth trying it out for yourself!

Hi there! I noticed that my 2023 AWD Maverick vibrates at 1500 RPMs and below. Additionally, I've noticed that there is a large gap between the metal and the driver's side tail light, and the plastic on the rear wheel wells is hanging and appears to be defective. I took my vehicle to the dealership, but unfortunately, they were unable to feel the vibration and said that the other issues are not their problem. Can you please help me resolve these issues? Thank you!

When people use the term 'cheap truck', it is an accurate description. The materials used are mostly plastic and of low quality. The driving experience is uncomfortable, especially when compared to a full-size truck. During acceleration, it tends to pull and at highway speeds, it can be difficult to control. Unfortunately, after only a month and a half, there are already multiple rattles inside the cab. The back seat is quite small and can only fit a few grocery bags. Additionally, if left to idle for too long, there is a noticeable smell of burning wires. While it does get great gas mileage, it is not practical for moving tools from job site to job site, as it requires multiple trips. The brake system can also be jerky and unpredictable. Overall, I would rate this truck poorly.
