Ford Fusion 2011 problems
The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.
Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.
The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

Common Ford Fusion 2011 problems
Based on the information from the sources provided, here are the common problems reported by owners of the 2011 Ford Fusion:
- Failed Throttle Body: Owners have reported jerks while driving and stalling engines, primarily due to a faulty throttle body in some Ford Fusion models, especially those from 2010 to 2016. To resolve this issue, the throttle body needs replacement, which can cost around $1,000 for parts and labor.
- Brake Issues: Common among Fusion models from 2006 to 2010, brake problems often required extra pressure before the car could stop. Some drivers even reported brakes failing mid-drive with the pedal extended to the floor. This issue was traced back to faults within the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit, affecting the brake system negatively. Ford issued a recall for the 2006 to 2010 Fusion models to address this problem.
These problems highlight some of the key issues that owners of the 2011 Ford Fusion have faced. It's essential for owners to be aware of these issues to take preventive measures and plan maintenance routines accordingly.

As the pressure increases and decreases, a crack can develop in the top of the tank, allowing fuel to leak. My VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. Even though it is the exact same model and I believe was even built at the same plant in Mexico where the other impacted vehicles were made.

- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Ford Fusion vehicles without a 3.5L engine and Lincoln MKZ hybrid electric vehicles, 2011 Mercury Milan vehicles, 2011-2012 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with a 3.5L GTDI engine and 2013 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with any available engine. The affected vehicles have electric power steering assist systems that may shut down as a result of a steering motor sensor fault.
- Consequence: If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will check the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). If dealers find any loss of steering assist DTCs, the steering gear will be replaced, free of charge. If, no codes are found during the PSCM inspection, the PSCM software will be updated, free of charge. The recall began on July 21, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S18.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.
- Consequence: The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

THE WHEEL STUDS MAY FRACTURE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A WHEEL TO SEPARATE.
- Consequence: WHILE DRIVING, MULTIPLE STUD FRACTURES COULD OCCUR AT THE WHEEL LOCATION, AND THE OPERATOR MAY EXPERIENCE VEHICLE VIBRATION AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR BRAKE DISC SURFACE FOR FLATNESS AND REPLACE THE DISCS AS NECESSARY. ADDITIONALLY, THE WHEEL LUG NUTS WILL BE REPLACED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 24, 2012. Hi there! I really like this car, but I've been having some trouble with the steering. Whenever I go around curves, the steering wheel doesn't return to center, which can be pretty dangerous. I've taken it back to the dealer three times, but unfortunately, they haven't been able to fix the issue. I'm thinking about filing a claim with my state's lemon law, but I'm really hoping that Ford will just take the car back and give me one that works properly. Thanks for listening!

Congratulations on your new Fusion! It's great to hear that you had such a positive experience with it. The way it handles and drives really impressed you, and you were sold on it from the moment you took it for a spin. Your Fusion sounds like a really nice car, with its Gray & black int. Se sport v6, mag wheels, and fog lamps. It's great that you love the radio too! Thank you for sharing your experience and recommending Ford to others. We hope you continue to enjoy your Fusion for years to come!

We purchased this car brand new in late December 2010. It has been on many adventures, including a recent trip to Colorado and Branson, and has clocked up 113,000 miles. On the interstates, we were able to maintain an average speed of 78MPH and achieved an impressive 34-37 miles per gallon. The only issues we have encountered were a broken driver's side door handle last summer and a power steering problem, which Ford covered two years ago. Despite these minor setbacks, my wife is adamant that we will not sell or trade this car. The local dealership has informed us that the original brakes are likely to last another 25,000 miles. We always use Shell regular and change the oil every 3,000 miles. We keep it garaged when we are home in the Arizona heat, which has helped to maintain the paintwork in pristine condition. The ginger leather interior is also in excellent condition, showing little signs of wear and tear.

I completely agree with the previous reviewer. Although I have very few complaints, the gear spacing is a bit of an issue. At 65, I'm turning 2500 RPM, which is higher than an automatic that turns about 2000. It seems like Ford may have purchased the transmission from a different car company and simply placed it in the Fusion without making any engineering changes other than fitment. It's a shame because the car is otherwise very quiet, rides really nicely, and is extremely comfortable. I'm very happy with the car, but with a gear change, I could be ecstatic. I can easily drive at 40 MPH in 6th gear with no problem, which should not be the case. On average, I get 26 mpg around town (suburban) and have even hit 36 mpg at 65 mph. I'm going on a 2400 mile trip next week, so I'll see then what it can do.

This is a great car! I'm so glad I chose the Fusion after researching all the mid-size cars. I've always been a GM man, but this car is just better than the Malibu.

I have owned three Focuses and really enjoyed them! However, I needed more cabin room, so I stepped up to the Fusion. The styling and performance are great for the 2010 model year. Unfortunately, some changes were made that I wasn't too happy about. The alloy wheels were replaced with cheap plastic hubcaps on a $23,000 car. Although they look nice, they are not very durable. The paint began flaking off within the first month, and I had to have two replaced already, with two more needing replacement. Thankfully, Ford is paying for it under warranty, but it's still a pain to go into the dealer to have them replaced. I suggested paying for alloys if they credited me for the hubcaps, but Ford's solution was not satisfactory. This will be my last Ford purchase due to the hubcap issue.

My air conditioning system malfunctioned approximately 2000 miles after the warranty expired, along with my rack and pinion brakes and the latch to open my driver's door. Despite being driven by a single driver, I am confident that these issues are not a result of any negligence on my part.

I have owned this car since 2012 and it has been a great ride. It drives very well on the highway. However, I recently found another car to use as my daily driver. Currently, I am averaging 15 to 20 miles per gallon on the highway. I have had some trouble with the transmission, and at 125,000 miles, I was advised to replace it. I have done about four spark plug changes. The sticker says 23 to 32 miles per gallon, but I have never gotten over 28 without putting premium gas in it. If anyone is looking to buy this car, I would recommend looking at Fuelly for any car you are interested in. It can give you a good idea of the car's true mileage. Sure, two or three miles per gallon difference with power is a good trade-off. I have test-driven it and compared it with other cars. It's a 3300-pound midsize sedan, and the intended power plant is a V-6. The acceleration is just lackluster. The interior is very upscale, and besides the performance, it's very good for this car. However, the driver door handle is poorly made, and I have had to replace it about three times now. The car is wonderful to look at, but with the base engine, as they always say, looks can only get you so far. The AC lines are known to crack or need replacement, and I have had to replace the blower motor. It cuts on when it wants to now or not.
