Ford Fusion 2012 problems
The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.
Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.
The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

Common Ford Fusion 2012 problems
The 2012 Ford Fusion has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to fuel consumption, acceleration, and transmission. These issues have been raised by owners of this car and have affected the overall driving experience.
Firstly, the 2012 Ford Fusion has been criticized for its fuel economy, which is lower compared to its competitors. The Mazda6 and Chevrolet Malibu, for instance, offer superior fuel efficiency, offering up to 30 and 29 miles per gallon (mpg) on the highway, respectively. In contrast, the Fusion's 6-speed automatic variant delivers a lesser 26 mpg, leaving it trailing in terms of fuel efficiency.
Secondly, the 2012 Ford Fusion has been reported to have acceleration issues. Owners have reported instances of jerking and throttle unresponsiveness during acceleration, leading to a less than smooth driving experience, especially during city driving when frequent acceleration and deceleration are common.
Lastly, issues have been reported with the Fusion's 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission. Some drivers have experienced delayed shifts, which could potentially be attributed to software or mechanical glitches. This problem has impacted the driving experience, undermining the Fusion's otherwise exceptional ride quality.
In addition to these issues, there have been concerns about the Fusion's manual braking system. While the car is equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), debates have ensued regarding the efficiency of the manual brakes. In situations demanding immediate response, some drivers have found the manual brakes to be less reliable, stirring discussions about the effectiveness of the car's overall braking mechanism.
These common problems have affected the overall reliability of the 2012 Ford Fusion, contributing to a slight degradation in user confidence regarding the vehicle's total performance and dependability. When encountering problems with the 2012 Ford Fusion, it is crucial to opt for a reputable Ford dealer for repairs and spare parts. Doing so ensures that you receive authentic parts that comply with Ford's stringent quality standards, enhancing vehicle performance and longevity. The technicians at authorized Ford dealers are highly trained and equipped with the latest tools and technologies to effectively diagnose and resolve any vehicle faults.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
- VIN: 3FAHP0JG2CR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I noticed a couple of months ago my brakes where acting weird one minute they were fine and then sometimes the pedal would go to the floor and one day I was behind someone who had stopped suddenly and I hit my brakes fast and they went to the floor, for me not to hit the person in front of me I had to run off the road I was doing 30 mph and nobody was hurt but if I didn't have the options to run off the side of the road I would have rear-ended the other car and would have put me and the other people in a dangerous situation now my brakes go to the floor all the time I had it checked and every time I hit the brakes while in park they hear air coming from the ABS module which needs to be replaced is what I was told there was never no warning light that came on and never have come on before, this incident would have been much more dangerous if I was on interstate doing 70 + and I could have not stopped I've learned that the same problem has a recall on the 2006 - 2010 Ford fusion and all the reviews I've read the same problem is happening for the 2012 Ford fusion also so why hasn't it been put on the recall list because this puts people's life's in danger and it is a very hazardous safety issue
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-26
- VIN: 3FAHP0JG0CR
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: One week ago I started experiencing a grinding noise when steering my vehicle, at any speed. The steering also catches in certain positions and becomes difficult to turn. The issue can be isolated to the electronic power steering gear in my vehicle: the grinding persists after disconnecting the tie rods, but disappears after disconnecting the steering column. I have a 2012 Ford Fusion with 104,000 miles on it. It has been well maintained and driven carefully for its whole life with zero accidents or failures. The steering issue appeared suddenly and spontaneously. There are no warning lights, or service codes, but the steering is clearly failing and making the vehicle unsafe to drive. Power steering failures at speed are unsafe and can cause accidents. Recall 15S18 and extended warranty 15N01 specifically address this faulty part in 2011-2012 Ford Fusions and many other vehicles. Because my vehicle is 2 months outside of the manufacture date range, it is not covered by this recall. However, it is built in the same plant with the same faulty part number. This leaves me with either a $2000+ repair, or I can drive with faulty power steering which is not only a major safety issue but one that is known to Ford as well as the NHTSA. Ford is refusing to cover the cost of this repair and additionally want to charge me diagnostic labor which I don't think I should be responsible for. Please look into this issue further and hold manufacturers accountable for replacing their faulty parts. Thank you.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was no longer covered under the Extended Warranty. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

This car is built similarly to the 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 that I owned years ago, but with updated technology that makes it a great buy in today's market. It's very agile on curves for a 4-door sedan and extremely quiet. I traded my Malibu LTZ for it and I'm glad I did because it rides much better on long trips and handles better too. I haven't had any trouble with it in the 10 months I've owned it. I love this car!

In April 2019, I went searching for a car and found my blue 2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5L at the car lot. My car has a number of features that make it more complete and enjoyable to drive than most other cars I've driven. Some of the features include 18

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that you've had a fantastic experience with your car over the past six years. It sounds like it's been a reliable and comfortable ride for you. I hope it continues to serve you well for at least another six years! The interior quality is impressive for the price point, and it's great to hear that maintenance has been minimal. It's unfortunate about the mice chewing on some wires, but that's not Ford's fault! As for the mileage approaching 100K, it might be worth getting the rear struts checked out since you've noticed some rattling and a stiff ride. Overall, it's wonderful to hear that you're happy with your purchase. Although the Sync entertainment system doesn't work with your iPhone, it's great that it still works with Bluetooth. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

I absolutely love driving this car! It may not have the power or performance of a Corvette engine, but it runs so smoothly and quietly. Plus, the Sony surround sound system is amazing and drowns out any outside noise. I bought it used 2 years ago and have owned it for 8 years now, and I still love it just as much as the day I got it. Even in the hot and humid climate of South Florida where I use the A/C almost all the time, I still manage to average 31 mpg. Of course, the traffic and long lights can bring that number down a bit. I often travel for weeks at a time, but every time I return, the car starts and runs like a dream. The driver's seat fits me perfectly, and I used to be able to comfortably drive over an hour each way when commuting to the office. Although I don't need to do that anymore, I still enjoy driving this car whenever I can. UPDATE: Another year has passed, and this car is still wonderful! The A/C and hybrid battery are still working perfectly on this 10-year-old car!

I wasn't sure about buying a hybrid until I test drove this one. I was concerned about how much get up and go a hybrid had, so I took it onto an incline ramp onto the highway and had no problem accelerating onto the highway. I really love how quiet and smooth the car rides.

Hi there! As a fellow student, I wanted to share my experience with my 2012 Ford Fusion that I got from a dealer in Michigan. Despite it already having 120k miles driven in 4.5 years, the car was in great shape as it was regularly serviced. I have to admit, I didn't have high hopes for the car, but to my surprise, it hasn't needed any repairs until 140k miles, which was a year after my purchase. I've found it to be highly reliable and with great resale value. Thanks for listening!
