Ford Fusion 2010 problems
The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.
Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.
The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-24
- VIN: 3FAHP0JG9AR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: As I was driving the vehicle, my ABS and all other brake service lights came on. I stopped driving the car except to take it to the dealership to be assessed and repaired. I had to have a new HCU and ABS module installed as well as brake fluid flush. After driving it off the lot I realized I had to push the brakes all the way to floor and it was still slow to stop. I took it back to the dealership and they bled the brakes again. It still doesn't brake as well as it did before incident. I had these repairs performed in Jan 2024 and recently found out that in April 2021 there was a recall for this same exact problem. I was never notified by mail as I usually am for recalls. I paid for these repairs out of pocket and believe this should have been covered under the recall from 2021. I feel this could've turned out much worse if I had continued driving the car. I would like this to be further investigated as to whether this falls under the recall.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-25
- VIN: 3FAHP0HA5AR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The throttle body failed. It is not available for inspection because it was replaced. While driving on a high-speed road, the engine felt like it shuddered, and the car lost engine power and would no longer accelerate. At the same time, the light shaped like a wrench came on. Our safety was therefore put at risk because we could now barely accelerate, and could easily have been rear-ended. The problem was confirmed and repaired by an independent service center. After doing the repair, the service center informed us that there was a Ford Customer Satisfaction Service Bulletin (13NO3) for this problem. We called Ford about this bulletin and were told that the Bulletin was limited to ten years or 150,000 miles, whichever came first. Even though our car is over ten years old, it only has 87,000 miles on it.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-01
- VIN: 3FADP0L3XAR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Under normal driving conditions, I have experienced extended brake pedal travel while braking, accompanied by the activation of the ABS, brake, and traction control warning lights. This issue has recurred multiple times over the past year while driving at speeds up to 65 mph, typically lasting for several days until the warning lights reset and hydraulic/regenerative braking is restored. The failure of the hydraulic braking system poses a significant threat not only to my safety but also to the safety of everyone on the road. Without reliable brakes, the ability to stop effectively is compromised, increasing the risk of accidents and endangering both myself and others nearby. Most recently, this problem persisted for over two weeks. The vehicle was inspected at a Ford dealership, which determined that the ABS module had failed and required replacement. The vehicle is available for further inspection upon request. This failure of the ABS module could be linked to the same issue previously recalled in the gas model of the Ford Fusion (Ford Motor Company Recall No. 19S54), where the DOT3 brake fluid causes a normally closed valve to remain stuck open in the brake system’s hydraulic control unit (HCU). Alarmingly, the Ford Fusion hybrid model was excluded from this recall, despite exhibiting the same dangerous braking issues. In November 2018, the NHTSA recommended a safety recall for this concern due to its serious nature. Ford’s "Customer Satisfaction Program 21N11" acknowledges the gravity of the situation but excludes hybrid models, placing the financial burden of essential repairs on owners. I urge the NHTSA to take immediate action to address this safety issue for all affected vehicles, including the Ford Fusion hybrid, and implement a recall to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-21
- VIN: 3FAHP0KC3AR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle was shaking abnormally. The contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle shook more violently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and determined that the passenger’s side front caliper needed to be replaced, and that the brake fluid needed to be flushed and refilled. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the mechanic was not able to get pressure in the brake lines and that HCU needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-01
- VIN: 3FAHP0HG1AR
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after turning the vehicle off and exiting the vehicle the contact heard air seeping and leaking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the canister purge valve. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that a short time later upon approaching the vehicle the contact observed gasoline pooling underneath the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then determined that the excessive pressure resulting from the failure of the canister purge valve caused the fuel tank to develop a crack that was then leaking gasoline. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V793000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 170,000.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-06
- VIN: 3FAHP0HG2AR
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The power steering pump completely shuts down and throws a Power Steering Fault Error. When this happens, the car is moved as safe as possible to a safe location, turned off and restarted and the error clears. When the error displays, all power steering is shut off. There is no warning, it operates fine after restart, I have not noticed any correlation as to when it happens, but when it happens, it leaves you in a dangerous position. The dealer has not reproduced the issue, but has heard reports of the issue. I have not been able to reproduce reliably either.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-10
- VIN: 3FAHP0JA1AR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I left my driveway and all of a sudden my abs light came on , I can't remember what it said like and system fault.i pulled over stopped turned car off and back on light hasn't come on since. Then weeks later I was driving and had to brake suddenly to avoid an accident and my breaks gave way. I tried pumping them but they went to the floor and stopping took longer. I pulled into a parking lot stopped.i put it in park, shit off then on they worked fine. But Everytime I apply my brakes when going over bumpy rail road crossings my breaks go to the floor and I can barely stop. Even severe bumps in road when I try to stop causes it.it happens Everytime I go over tracks since the first incident to the point I'm now scared of them.I had a mechanic look at it he said my fluid wasn't low, checked the lines n hoses no leaks. He said fluid was a bit odd in color. He then bled my brakes and replaced fluid.they seemed okay then for 2 months everything was fine til I went over railroad tracks and brakes went soft again. Now they feel softer then before at normal stops but no lights and no abs warning light has come on. He is stumped. I bought this car in 2013 but never did receive a recall notice in 2019 for the brakes or hydraulic.i think my car should be included if that is the problem.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
- VIN: 3FADP0L32AR
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The vehicle lost power steering. Restarting vehicle shows a "power steering assist fault" message. Looking into this fault, I found Safety Recall 15S18, for later year vehicles. This seems to be what I experienced. I have not had it towed to a dealer for diagnosis or repair yet, as the cost for repair seems to exceed the value of the car.
STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES, AIR PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-14
- VIN: 3FAHP0HA9AR
- Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
- Summary: The contact's daughter owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, the wheel locked in place, and the vehicle failed to steer as intended. The vehicle was turned off. A short time later, the vehicle was restarted, and the ABS and service track control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was put in reverse(R) when the contact observed the steering wheel was stiff and did not steer as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-19
- VIN: 3FAHP0JG9AR

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-04-14
- VIN: 3FAHP0JA4AR
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The transmission fails to shift from first to second and also is shuttering in reverse. It revs the engine and suddenly lurches forward or reverse. It becomes unsafe trying to get to traffic speed from a light or when turning. Yes the by independent service company. No it has need been inspected by a dealer or manufacturer. Warning lights came on after the first time it happened. This is a known issue with these transmissions and I believe its a manufacture failure to recall these transmisisons.
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-01
- VIN: 3FADP0L38AR
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) malfunctioned causing the brakes to give out while I was driving the vehicle. Luckily I was on a residential street and I was able to safely pull over, but it could have caused a major accident had it not happened in that location. After taking it to two auto-shops, both concluded that it was a problem with the ABS system. There is an open recall for the 2010 Ford Fusion for the same exact issue (Recall number: 19S54), however it does not cover the Hybrid model, even though it is the same exact issue. In order to stop the vehicle, I need to press down on the brake pedal very very hard and use the emergency brake. It is not safe to drive, and it is a substantial and costly problem with the vehicle to repair. I would like my car to be part of that recall program, or at least be able to be recalled for this issue in which there is already an open recall, except not for my specific variety of the 2010 Ford Fusion. I have had to get my car towed several times in order to transport it, as again, it is not safe to drive!

- Consequence: If the air bag does not inflate as intended, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag module, free of charge. The recall began November 21, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S34.

Any vehicle not included in "Zone A", or "Zone B" is not included in the safety recall. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. Ford mailed interim letters informing owners that parts are not yet available on July 15, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. - Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.
- Consequence: The pressure changes may cause the tank to crack and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.
- Consequence: The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

I am thrilled to hear about your positive experience with your Fusion! It sounds like you have taken great care of it, and it has rewarded you with fantastic reliability and comfort. Your maintenance costs have been impressively low, and it's great to hear that the necessary repairs have been simple and affordable. Thank you for sharing your recommendation - I'm sure it will be helpful to anyone looking for an inexpensive and reliable daily driver like yours!

In 2011, I bought my 2010 Ford Fusion with only 12K miles on it. It has been my daily driver ever since and has reliably passed inspection every year. My goal is to reach 250,000 miles! I have been able to save money on oil changes by doing them every 7,000 miles, and I didn't need to change the spark plugs until 90K miles. The brake pads lasted until 130K miles, which was amazing! I only changed them because I had already bought the replacements. I get an average of 29 mpg and 32 on the highway, which is great. Although not everything has been perfect, I chose not to fix the tire air pressure sensor when it went out at 80K miles. I did replace the valve cover seal at 120K miles, which only cost me $60 and 45 minutes of my time. I use 87 octane fuel, which is the cheapest option. I have taken my Fusion on several trips, including 700-mile trips, without any problems or hesitation. I changed the coolant fluid and thermostat at 168,000 miles and the transmission fluid at 175,000 miles. When the Car has never been garaged and sits outside all day/night in Texas heat. The paint has been fading and the clear coat is peeling on the hood. However, I still believe this is the best car I have owned and that I got my money's worth. The engine is not smoking and the A/C is really cold. I've never done an alignment, but it drives straight. I drive it about 300-400 miles a week and make sure to keep up with preventive maintenance!

I bought my 2010 Fusion SE automatic 2.5L 4-cylinder with 20,000 miles for $13,000. Now, with 70,000 miles, I'm happy to report that I haven't had any problems with it. I drive 70 miles every day, about 30% in the city and 70% on the highway, and I'm getting 31 mpg. I'm very pleased with how fun and economical this car is to drive. I change the oil every 7k miles with full synthetic oil and haven't had to change the spark plugs yet. The right brake light went out, but it only cost $10 to fix. I've taken several trips from Dallas, TX to El Paso, TX, a 600-mile trip, and got 41 mpg. This exceeded my expectations, especially since I was hesitant due to reading reviews about transmission problems, but I haven't experienced any such issues.

I think the 2010 Ford Fusion is the best mid-sized sedan in its price range. The 3.0L V6 engine provides plenty of power while still giving you an honest 25mpg combined city/freeway. The handling is excellent, making you feel safe and confident under all conditions. It's also a fun car to drive. The car is very quiet, allowing you to hold a conversation even when driving at 70mph on a good road surface. With 104,000 miles, the only issue I had was with the throttle-body, which was fixed at no cost by Ford. The car has excellent reliability! Even after 8 years, I still find the body style appealing, with a nice design both inside and out. I highly recommend it!

The engine powering this car is well-documented for going into limp mode, which means sudden loss of throttle response. Despite having found codes, the service advisor informed that nothing more would be done since they couldn't 'replicate' the condition. However, I am confident that the issue will be resolved and I will not have to pay off this car and buy another.

I purchased a 2010 Fusion with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but unfortunately, I experienced several issues with the transmission. Despite my efforts to resolve the problems, I ultimately decided to sell the vehicle. It is my recommendation that potential buyers consider other models and brands besides this particular Ford model.

The power steering on my son's 2010 Ford Fusion failed while he was driving it, which is a known issue with this year model. Despite filing complaints with Ford Corp, NHTSA & the FTC, we have yet to receive cooperation from Ford on the $2400 repair bill. It is worth noting that there is an ongoing investigation into the 2010 Fusion's power steering issues, but no recall has been issued at this time, despite the 2011 Fusion being recalled for the same problem and having the same power steering parts as the 2010 model. We hope that Ford Corp will take responsibility and recall these vehicles before any accidents occur. A reimbursement for the repair bill would also be appreciated.

I have experienced several defects with this new car, including a leaking trunk, bad window regulator, dash and door rattles, failed side sensors, and a loose sun visor, all within the first 1000 miles. These issues are concerning and I am disappointed that they have occurred. I believe it is important to address these problems and ensure that they are resolved in a timely and effective manner.

Hey there! I wanted to share some information with you about this car. While it may be a bit costly to drive into high mileage, it has some great features like comfortable seats and gets 28MPG. The body is also really durable and held up well for 10 years with zero rust. One thing to keep in mind is that the throttle body may fail, but Ford has finally recalled them after mine failed at 60K. The good news is that it's a cheap repair, around $120 for DYI. The transmission can be a bit weak, mine failed at 197K, but if you keep up with regular maintenance like changing the fluid every 30 miles, it should last longer. Speaking of which, the fluid needs to be changed like clockwork, but don't worry, it's an easy fix. Lastly, the electric power steering failed at 201K miles, but it's a $700 repair. Hope this helps!
