The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.

Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.

The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

  • Summary: As I was driving the vehicle, my ABS and all other brake service lights came on. I stopped driving the car except to take it to the dealership to be assessed and repaired. I had to have a new HCU and ABS module installed as well as brake fluid flush. After driving it off the lot I realized I had to push the brakes all the way to floor and it was still slow to stop. I took it back to the dealership and they bled the brakes again. It still doesn't brake as well as it did before incident. I had these repairs performed in Jan 2024 and recently found out that in April 2021 there was a recall for this same exact problem. I was never notified by mail as I usually am for recalls. I paid for these repairs out of pocket and believe this should have been covered under the recall from 2021. I feel this could've turned out much worse if I had continued driving the car. I would like this to be further investigated as to whether this falls under the recall.

  • Summary: The throttle body failed. It is not available for inspection because it was replaced. While driving on a high-speed road, the engine felt like it shuddered, and the car lost engine power and would no longer accelerate. At the same time, the light shaped like a wrench came on. Our safety was therefore put at risk because we could now barely accelerate, and could easily have been rear-ended. The problem was confirmed and repaired by an independent service center. After doing the repair, the service center informed us that there was a Ford Customer Satisfaction Service Bulletin (13NO3) for this problem. We called Ford about this bulletin and were told that the Bulletin was limited to ten years or 150,000 miles, whichever came first. Even though our car is over ten years old, it only has 87,000 miles on it.

    Vehicle year: 2010

    The Ford Fusion SE I purchased recently seemed to have trouble shifting gears automatically. Despite the dealer's inability to identify the issue, my husband and I were convinced that there was a problem. We suggested that the dealer drive the car for at least 60 miles, especially on work days when the issue was more noticeable. The manager took the car home, monitored it, and discovered a transmission defect. Fortunately, the dealer replaced the transmission under warranty, despite the fact that some owners had to replace their transmissions multiple times.     I have been using my car to commute 50 miles to Boston every day. While I expected some lack of power from my Olds Intrigue, the actual experience has been worse than I anticipated. The car struggles to shift out of first gear when the engine is cold, which makes for a jerky and loud ride when slowing down from 65 miles an hour to negotiate toll booths. The same performance issue arises when braking on exit ramps and having to merge, as the car chokes on acceleration. I have driven a Mazda 6, which is also a 4-cylinder 5-speed, and its pep and response far outweigh those of the Fusion. I am hesitant to take the car far from home, as it randomly fails to shift out of first gear when I need power to move forward from a stop.

    I purchased the car in October, and unfortunately, I have had to take it in for service multiple times since then. I have experienced air locks in the cooling system on 4-5 occasions, and even my rental car had the same issue. The head gasket had to be replaced, and there was coolant in one of the cylinders. The timing belt was out by 7 degrees, which was the dealership's fault. Additionally, there was a high-pitched squeal coming from the heater, but it has since been fixed. The Sync system also cuts out randomly. At one point, the car would nearly stall when I turned the ignition, but it would eventually start. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this car at this time.

    I had an issue with my SEL 3.o 6spd Trans at just 1500 miles. Although the repair involved rebuilding the trans and reprogramming the PCM, I have noticed a severe downshift when I take my foot off the gas. This has resulted in a loss of 4-5 mpg and the car does not perform as well as it did before the repair. I was disappointed as this was not the robust and fun car I had agreed to purchase. Additionally, I have concerns about the safety of downshifting on ice. Despite Ford's response that it 'performs as designed', I believe that the redesign is not acceptable. Unfortunately, my experience with Ford's customer service has been less than satisfactory. I would advise others to consider this before purchasing the car.

    This model Fusion hybrid has a lot of great features, including a 10-way power driver's seat, auto high/low beam headlights, rain-sensitive wipers, adaptive cruise control (which I love already) and built-in navigation with downloadable (free?) maps. Although it lacks some of the features on the 2014 model, such as auto-dimming outside mirrors, heated outside mirrors, turn signals on outside mirrors, fog lights, and speed-adjusted radio volume, it is still a very comfortable and quiet car.

    This is my fourth car and I have really enjoyed driving it. The car has maximum power, comfort, and reliability, and I have fallen in love with it. The stereo system is superb and the build quality is appreciable. I was able to reach 0-120kmph in under 12 seconds, which is very impressive from my point of view. The ambient lighting gives the compartment a fresh look. I once drove around 1000 kms in a day and I didn't feel any tiredness. Microsoft SYNC is also a great feature that allows me to call and change music while driving.

    Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I leased it back in Dec07, and now I'm in the process of purchasing it. The only issue I've had so far was a broken interior door handle for the driver's side, but the dealer had it in stock and fixed it within an hour. Overall, I'm really impressed with this car - it has great acceleration, good brakes, and handles really well. I mostly drive in the city, so the mileage could be better, but it performs really well on the highway with its 6-speed automatic transmission.     Updated at 40 months of ownership. Screen freeze reported on last update. I just love this car! It feels like it was designed for my body type. I love the self-parking feature and the AWD which provides great traction on slippery roads. The voice control is awesome too - I can just say 'set temperature to 68' and it's done! Bottom line, Ford put a mid-grade Lincoln inside a Ford body, which best describes it. Updated after owning for 32 months as a low mileage driver using it every day. Update: Screen frozen at 30 months with 13,500 miles on the car. The car still started and ran fine, but I lost all screen functions. The dealer replaced the APIM and now the car is better than new with added features on the screen. The screen turns off immediately when exiting and locking the car, which is a great improvement. The dealer even gave me a loaner for the 5 days it took to order the part and install it. I have the Platinum model with AWD and Park Assist. Despite the APIM failure, I really love this car! It's very enjoyable to drive and all features work perfectly. I'm still amazed that a vehicle with every option, including self-parking, would have no flaws, other than the window bounce-back issue, which occurred in the first few weeks of ownership. After repeated window bounce-back issues, I researched and found 5 tech bulletins on this one issue. I printed them out and brought them to the dealer, and they followed the instructions and solved the problem. They originally said they had never heard of this issue. Original review: 3 months, 1600 miles of local driving, 19 mpg. Premium gas is recommended but not required for this 2.0 turbocharged engine. The window rollback issue happens periodically, which makes me leery about valet parking outdoors for that reason. That's the bad. The good is that the Platinum model is awesome with very good acceleration and an awesome interior. I love the NAV and every feature of the entertainment system. It's an absolute dream car!My 4 year old Acura was essentially totalled by a 97 year old driver going 5 mph. This Fusion, though the same weight as the Acura, feels much more substantial. I love the self-parking feature, although the lane keeper takes some getting used to. Being in the car feels like first class. I'm glad I took the 7-year, zero deductible Ford warranty at a good price, especially after reading some complaints.

    Took your car to the dealership because the engine was sputtering and dying. Fortunately, it was covered under warranty and the dealership was very helpful. They mentioned that this was the fourth car with the same issue this week, although it is not on the recall list for 2019. Other than this, your car has been excellent. You have owned it for just over a year since buying it brand new. It has a beautiful body style, is comfortable, great on gas, and provides an easy ride.
