The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.

Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.

The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

  • Summary: As I was driving the vehicle, my ABS and all other brake service lights came on. I stopped driving the car except to take it to the dealership to be assessed and repaired. I had to have a new HCU and ABS module installed as well as brake fluid flush. After driving it off the lot I realized I had to push the brakes all the way to floor and it was still slow to stop. I took it back to the dealership and they bled the brakes again. It still doesn't brake as well as it did before incident. I had these repairs performed in Jan 2024 and recently found out that in April 2021 there was a recall for this same exact problem. I was never notified by mail as I usually am for recalls. I paid for these repairs out of pocket and believe this should have been covered under the recall from 2021. I feel this could've turned out much worse if I had continued driving the car. I would like this to be further investigated as to whether this falls under the recall.

  • Summary: The throttle body failed. It is not available for inspection because it was replaced. While driving on a high-speed road, the engine felt like it shuddered, and the car lost engine power and would no longer accelerate. At the same time, the light shaped like a wrench came on. Our safety was therefore put at risk because we could now barely accelerate, and could easily have been rear-ended. The problem was confirmed and repaired by an independent service center. After doing the repair, the service center informed us that there was a Ford Customer Satisfaction Service Bulletin (13NO3) for this problem. We called Ford about this bulletin and were told that the Bulletin was limited to ten years or 150,000 miles, whichever came first. Even though our car is over ten years old, it only has 87,000 miles on it.

As a result, I have made the decision to no longer own a Ford vehicle and will be exploring other options.     I recently switched over from a Lincoln MKS to a Ford vehicle due to the Ford employee discount. Although the car is great and comes with all the bells and whistles, including premium audio, leather, and heated seats, I have been experiencing some issues with the steering. Unfortunately, the Ford customer service has not been helpful in resolving the issue. Despite sending numerous emails to Ford Corporate, I have not received any response. Overall, I am regretting my decision to switch to Ford due to the poor customer service. I may consider going back to foreign cars, as I have had better experiences with brands like Lexus in the past.

    I really like my vehicle, but unfortunately I have experienced a strange strong vibration when the car hits 50 - 55 mph. I have had it back at the dealership several times to try and resolve the issue. Other than that, I really enjoy driving it. I drive approximately 80 miles a day, 5 days a week and the drive is usually enjoyable, except for the vibration. I used to have a Nissan Maxima, which lasted me 9 years and 250,000+ miles. I am hoping that the Ford Fusion will prove to be just as reliable. However, I have noticed that the Fusion is definitely a lot better in the snow than the Maxima!

    I'm on my 3rd Fusion now, and each one has replaced a foreign car. My 2015 S trim replaced a 2015 Camry Sport, which was just an awful car, period. My next Fusion was a 2017 S with the appearance package (fog lights, rear spoiler, and 18-inch rims) that I leased and stupidly traded in for a 2018 Accord. Boy, did I regret that move! A year later, I had to scrap the Accord because it completely fell apart and gave me gray hair. I traded it in for a 2019 Titanium after test driving a rental that blew me away. This car makes me grin while I'm driving it and it's screaming for a road trip. It's been a long time since I've been this happy with any vehicle, but this Titanium is top-notch quality with better pricing and looks than both Toyota and Honda's wagons. I also had the great 2005 Taurus that was perfect before the 2015 Camry. Don't believe the hype and fake reviews. Buy a Ford!

    My wife and I have been searching for a new midsized vehicle for the past three months. We test drove every competitor car in the class. The Camry had a good price, adequate power and handling, but lacked features in typical Toyota fashion. The Accord was a feature-rich car, but the engine noise was unbearable. The Regal was a good car and actually our second choice. It had great power and handling, but the Buick exterior colors were a bit bland. The interior's color combinations were a bit overwhelming, and their Premium packages were not to our liking. The Mazda 6 was also a good car, but the front seat padding was a bit too firm for our liking. Pricing was also a bit of a concern with the Mazda. The Altima was not a bad choice either, very comparable to the Mazda with slightly better seats, but the performance was slightly lackluster with no upgrades available. The Optima was a little floaty in the suspension, but the turbo model had good power (on par with the Buick and Fusion). Despite claims of 20mpg in the city, my 50-mile test drive was nowhere near that. I suspect the way that car is tuned, you could realistically expect 14-15 in the city. It had tons of features, but we found most of them completely useless for our purposes. The Sonata was a solid competitor across all measures with one exception. The lumbar support in the seats was a bit uncomfortable for taller people. The Malibu fell a little short in every measure, mostly in the quality of materials. The car felt cheap when compared to others on the list. The Audi A3 and A4 were both good cars all around, but they were a bit too pricey and required premium fuel. Not to mention, dealerships were sparse.The Passat is generally uncomfortable and unremarkable in almost every aspect. While I may have forgotten a car in the same class, the fact that I forgot it should tell you that it was forgettable. Rest assured, we test drove all of them. However, the Fusion stands out as the clear winner in this class of cars.

    Overall, I really like the car. However, there seems to be an issue with the transmission that sporadically acts up within the first 5 minutes of driving. It doesn't seem to know what gear it needs to be in, causing the tach to jump around. Fortunately, it usually goes away and only happens at slow speeds.

    When I purchased this car over two years ago, I was initially hesitant due to the negative reviews. However, I couldn't resist the great deal and I'm so glad I didn't! This car has been absolutely amazing for me. Despite having almost 200,000 miles on it, I have never experienced any issues with it other than regular maintenance. While the backup camera can be a bit glitchy, I believe this is due to a previous fender bender before I owned the car. I love this car so much that I am currently looking to upgrade to a new 2020 Ford Fusion Titanium. My current car is the SE with technology package, and it was a significant improvement from my previous car, a Hyundai Sonata. In my opinion, the Fusion surpasses even the new Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Don't just take my word for it, compare all three cars for yourself. Pay attention to details such as material quality, button feel, infotainment system, and door thud. The Fusion is full of soft touch plastic, even on the dashboard and rear seat doors. The car and doors feel sturdy and well-built, unlike the competition. The buttons feel expensive when pressed, which is not the case for the Accord or Camry. I am very happy with the average 30 mpg I get in mixed driving. I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of my 2020 Fusion before Ford discontinues production. It's such a shame that they made that decision. If you're considering purchasing a 2015 or newer Fusion, I highly recommend it!

    I purchased my Fusion Hybrid as a Certified Used from Ford. It has met or exceeded all expectations. I commute 35 miles one way to work and have averaged 41 mpg since I started driving the Ford. The ride is comfortable, and the SYNC system is very useful. The climate control works well, and the blind spot monitors have been a great help. Although the body style limits some visibility, overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.
