The Chevrolet K5 Blazer is a full-size sport-utility vehicle that was built by General Motors. Being GM's smallest full-size SUV, the K5 Blazer is part of the C/K truck series. Introduced to the Chevrolet line for the 1969 model year, the K5 Blazer was replaced for 1995 by the Chevrolet Tahoe. In 1970, GMC introduced its own model of the truck, called the Jimmy, which was discontinued in 1991 and replaced by the Yukon. The "Jimmy" name was chosen to reflect how GM may sound in a similar manner to how Jeep was thought to be a pronunciation of GP in the competing market. Both were short-wheelbase trucks and available with either rear- or four-wheel drive. Despite all Chevrolet versions from 1969 to 1988 having the "K5" badge, GM never internally referred to the model as the K5 Blazer/K5 Jimmy. Officially, the vehicles have always been referred to as the Blazer/Jimmy, without the K5 prefix. After the release of the S-Series Blazer/Jimmy in 1983, the models were officially renamed "Chevrolet Full-Size Blazer" and "GMC K-Jimmy" (V-Jimmy from 1987-1991), though they are often unofficially still addressed as "K5" to avoid confusion.

The K5 Blazer and Jimmy had "full convertible" removable tops until 1975. For 1976, GM introduced a half-cab design that was less prone to leaks and slightly safer in a roll-over. These half cabs had the convertible top begin a few inches behind the driver/passenger doors and run back to the tailgate.

The Blazer's long-wheelbase relative, with an integrated rear body and doors for second row passengers, is called the Chevrolet Suburban.

Common 1992 Gmc Jimmy problems

The GMC Jimmy, produced between 1983 and 2005, is a popular SUV known for its versatility and off-road capabilities. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. This article focuses on the 1992 GMC Jimmy and its reported issues based on owner complaints.

One of the most common problems with the 1992 GMC Jimmy is engine issues. This includes problems starting the vehicle, which was reported three times for the 1995 model year. Engine problems can be caused by various factors, such as faulty ignition components, worn-out engine parts, or issues with the fuel system. These problems can lead to inconvenience and increased repair costs for owners.

Another issue reported by owners is the ABS coming on, which was reported three times for the 2001 model year. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is a crucial safety feature that prevents the wheels from locking up during hard braking. If the ABS light comes on, it could indicate a problem with the system, such as a faulty sensor or a malfunctioning ABS module. This issue can compromise the vehicle's safety and should be addressed promptly.

The 1992 GMC Jimmy also has reported problems with the transmission, specifically the inability to shift into reverse or low gears slipping, which was reported twice for the 2001 model year. Transmission issues can be caused by various factors, such as low fluid levels, worn-out clutch plates, or a malfunctioning solenoid. These problems can lead to inconvenience and increased repair costs for owners.

Additionally, the 1992 GMC Jimmy has reported issues with the fuel system. This includes problems with the fuel pump, fuel injectors, or the fuel filter. Fuel system issues can lead to poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and increased emissions. These problems can be caused by various factors, such as faulty components, contaminated fuel, or a lack of maintenance.

Lastly, the 1992 GMC Jimmy has reported issues with the electrical system. This includes problems with the battery, alternator, or the wiring harness. Electrical issues can lead to various problems, such as starting issues, dim headlights, or malfunctioning accessories. These problems can be caused by various factors, such as worn-out components, corrosion, or a lack of maintenance.

In conclusion, the 1992 GMC Jimmy has reported issues with the engine, ABS, transmission, fuel system, and electrical system. These problems can lead to inconvenience and increased repair costs for owners. It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these problems and ensure the vehicle's longevity.

  • Number Of Injuries: 3
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 1GKDT13W1N2
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: WE WERE GIVEN A 1992 GMC JIMMY BY MY FATHER, AND ALONG WITH THE CAR CAME ALL THE CORRESPONDING PAPERWORK. INCLUDED IN THE PAPERWORK WAS A "SAFETY RECALL NOTICE" FROM GMC DATED MAY 2000, RECALL # G99041-S. THIS LETTER DESCRIBES AN ABS BRAKE FAILURE RESULTING IN ABNORMAL STOPPING DISTANCES AND THE REQUIRED REPAIRS. WHEN WE GOT THE CAR, I ASKED MY FATHER IF THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AND HE STATED "THAT WHEN HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN APPOINTMENT THEY HAD NO RECORD OF THE RECALL SO THE REPAIR WAS NOT PERFORMED". SINCE WE'VE TAKEN OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE, WE'VE EXPERIENCED A BRAKE FAILURE AS DESCRIBED IN THIS LETTER AND WISH TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM THAT GMC HAS INDICATED. I'VE TRIED CALLING OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HAVE RECEIVED THE SAME RESPONSE AS MY FATHER DID, "THERE'S NO RECALL WITH THAT NUMBER AND OUR VIN DOESN'T SHOW ANY RECALL NOTICES". I'VE ALSO CALLED GMC @ 1800-462-8782 AND SPOKE TO A TYHESSIA SMITH (1-866-542-4368 EXTENSION 45904, SERVICE REQUEST # 1-283317144), SHE ALSO HAS NO RECORD OF THE RECALL. HAVING THIS RECALL NOTICE ALONG WITH A BRAKE FAILURE SEEMS TO REQUIRE PROMPT ACTION FROM GMC, BUT IT SEEMS I'M GETTING LITTLE ASSISTANCE FROM THEM. *AK

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2001-01-25
  • VIN: 1GKDT13Z8N2
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM GENERAL MOTORS DURING THE SUMMER OF 2000. THE RECALL NOTICE WAS CREATED BY THE NATION TRAFFIC AND MOTOR VEHICLE ACT AND WAS TITLED CAMPAIGN #G99041-S. I SCEDULED MY VEHICLE FOR THE UPGRADE AND HAD THIS SERVICE PERFOMED ON 09/20/00. APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AFTER THE UPGRADE THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE (PUSH BUTTON TYPE) AND WOULD NOT RELEASE AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. I REVIEWED THE VEHICLE MANUAL AND WALKED THROUGH THE PROCESS OF RELEASING THE 4WD IF IT BECAME LOCKED UP AND FORTUNATELY IT WORKED AND RELEASED. I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH THE ORIGINAL DEALER. HIS TECHNICIANS REVIEWED THE VEHICLE ON 10/04 AND SAID THAT THEY HAD PLUGGED IN A VACUMN WRONG AND NOW EVERYTHING WOULD BE OK. APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND HAD THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO ENGANE THE ABS UNIT. IT ENGAGED AND WORKED AS IT HAD FOUR ABOUT EIGHT YEARS. THE FOLLOWING DAY BOTH THE ABS AND BRAKE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND STAYED ILLUMINATED. BECAUSE OF TH EBRAKE LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED AND THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD THE ORIGINAL BACK BRAKE SHOES I THOUGHT THAT I CHANGED THE BACK SHOES THAT LIGHT ISSUE MIGHT GO AWAY. AFTER CHANGING THE BACK BRAKE SHOES, INSTALLING SPRING KITS, AND TURNING THE DRUMS, I REASSEMBLED, ADJUSTED THE SHOES AND "TRIED THE PEDAL" IN MY GARAGE. BOTH THE STANDARD BRAKE PEDAL AND THE EMERGENY BRAKE PEDALS RESPONDED CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THEIR POSITIONS. AT THIS TIME I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATLY "FELL" TO THE FLOOR. THE PEDAL PUMPED UP BUT AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS AGAIN FELL TO THE FLOOR. I PURCHASED A NEW MASTER CYINDER FROM NAPA AND INSTALLED IT. ONLY AFTER A COMPLETE SYSTEM BEEDING DID I REGAIN ANY BRAKE PEDAL. BOTH THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT STAYED "ON". BACK TO THE DEALER, REPORTED DEFECTIVE ABS ($1400.00) I FEEL THE ORIGINAL RECALL AND DEALER WORK CREATED BRAKE FAILURE.*AK
