2011 Ford Fiesta problems
The Ford Fiesta is a supermini car that was marketed by Ford from 1976 to 2023 over seven generations. Over the years, the Fiesta has mainly been developed and manufactured by Ford's European operations, and had been positioned below the Escort (later the Focus).
Ford had sold over 15 million Fiestas from 1976 to July 2011, making it one of the best-selling Ford nameplates behind the Escort and the F-Series. It has been manufactured in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Taiwan, China, India, Thailand, and South Africa.
The Fiesta was discontinued in 2023, after over 22 million units had been made. The final Ford Fiesta rolled off the production line on 7 July 2023.

Common 2011 Ford Fiesta problems
The 2011 Ford Fiesta has been reported to have several common problems, including engine, brake, and infotainment system issues.
Engine problems include stalling, oil leakage, and timing belt breakage while driving, causing engine seizures. These issues can lead to significant repair costs and may affect the reliability of the vehicle.
Brake issues are also common in the 2011 Ford Fiesta, with the brakes deteriorating quicker than in other vehicles. The only way to fix this issue is by replacing the whole brake assembly, including the brake pads and rotors. In many cases, this had to be done in a lower milage like 40,000 miles.
The infotainment system in some 2011 Ford Fiesta vehicles tends to freeze and sometimes it is unable to recognize phones. The Bluetooth connectivity has a tendency to disconnect without warning, and the infotainment system can crash frequently, and has difficulty responding to touch controls. The touchscreen could go dark without any warning, and not turn back on for some time. However, most of these issues can be fixed by updating the system to the latest software.
Other common problems include faulty clutch, turbo failure, bad fuel injectors, water leaks, and suspension problems. These issues can lead to significant repair costs and may affect the reliability of the vehicle.
When purchasing a used 2011 Ford Fiesta, it is important to thoroughly inspect the vehicle and be aware of these common problems. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these issues from occurring or becoming more severe.

- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: This car literally almost got me killed when it suddenly began jerking like I was hitting the brakes while driving or like suddenly downshifting into first if it was a standard which it isn’t. All the dash lights flickered and the gages went up and down right before this happened. It jerks, stalls, lurches and I have literally just parked it and don’t drive it because my children were inside the car when it began doing this on the highway and stalled causing us to almost be hit by a semi when this happened. I had it towed home out of fear of attempting to drive it. You can’t even drive it a few blocks before it begins lurching and jerking. It feels like something to do with the transmission and the traction control light is now on as well.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-08
- VIN: 3FADP4BJ1BM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE
- Summary: I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The vehicle has a really serious issue relating to the fuse box that is mounted under the hood. This issue has a recall and I scheduled it for service at the Ford dealer in bryan, ohio. (Bryan Ford) I have issues with this vehicle that make it extremely unsafe for me and my family to drive. The headlights randomly go out while driving, both passenger and drivers side are affected by this. The doors will not lock and I have no horn now either, making us a target for car jacking. About a month before I found out there was a recall for this I hit a racoon and it knocked off the plastic wheel cover. After I took it in to have the recall fixed Bryan Ford refused to repair this recall due to the missing plastic. I believe my family and I are going to be seriously injured in this vehicle because of the electrical problems related to the recalled fusebox. I blow a headlight approximately once a week and the fuses blow constantly. I believe they do not want to fix this because it is a very time consuming repair that they feel isn't worth thier time. The anxiety I have while driving this car after dark is excruciating and i feel that my families lives are worth the time for this repair. Is this legal for them to decline a known and well documented safety issue related to the fuse box in this vehicle? Perhaps a buy back should be recalled since this does make the vehicle a serious Hazzard to anyone on the road including my family.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-17
- VIN: 3FADP4FJXBM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The low beam headlights do not turn on, all the other lights work as normal including the high beams. The fuses have not blown and there are no warning lamps or messages. This is a known problem with this make and model, there is a recall in Canada for this issue. The safety of others is put at extreme risk in any kind of low light condition (fog, rain, etc.) As well as my own safety by not being able to see in front of me. It is illegal to drive with high beams on in residential areas so I am just unable to drive at night. The vehicle has not been inspected yet. I suspect this is related to the design of the fuse box which allows debris and moisture to get into the relays, again, see the Canadian recall.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-05
- VIN: 3FADP4FJ1BM
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On 7/5/22 my Fiesta came to a dead stop while I was driving. It was towed to our local garage and tested for a faulty Transmission Control Module. After waiting over a year for the part Haldeman Ford in Kutztown , Pa claims the Transmission Control Module is not testing as faulty.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-17
- VIN: 3FADP4EJ5BM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I purchased the car at a buy here, pay here. I drove off the lot with a picture of an engine on my dashboard. I drove my vehicle for 6 months with it feeling like it was jerking. I had trouble excelling. It was stall at stop signs and red lights. I broke down at a red light. When I turned the car on, it would not move from park. It was Stuck and so was I on the highway at a light. It took 15 hours for triple A to arrive. I tried to move the car off the road the best I could but it would not shift into Neutral. I had the car sent back to the lot where I make my payments to. They sent my car to a transmission shop. They said the transmission was a double shifting transmission and the control module has 4. There are 77,000 on back order for this part. I assumed that the dealership would put me in a new vehicle but they are refusing to. With the part being on back order, this recall can not be fixed for a long time. Don’t they need to put me in a vehicle until the one I pay for is fixed? They told me I need to put another down payment on a new car. I thought that recalls of any sort must be fixed and if they don’t get it fixed, they have to put me in a different vehicle.
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-06
- VIN: 3FADP4EJ7BM
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: Upon acceleration from a stop the transmission seriously shutters and stalls the vehicles engine seriously putting the occupants life and safety at risk as well as others. I also noticed that the vehicle shutters badly at speeds 3mph through 25mph bucking and stalling the engine all the way through making driving the vehicle a real danger and threat to the safety of others on the road. This is a serious and dangerous situation I’ve been placed in and by this vehicle being my only source of transportation endangers my life and safety and the safety of others on the road due to the stalling and hesitation upon entering traffic it’s deadly. Weather conditions also contribute to the life threatening dangers while traveling. Vehicle has not been inspected by a certified technician due to to my extended hours of required employment with no other source of transportation yet I am more than willing to get a free inspection by a Ford Facility. Yes there is a yellow check engine light on the dashboard that was never present up until the shuttering and stalling started 3 to 4 months ago. Please update me with any solutions you may have ASAP to address this urgent and faulty issue, this is of great importance and safety concern. It has been brought to my attention that a article dated July 18, 2019 in the Detroit Free Press states “Ford is aware of this problem yet still put the vehicle into production and sent a memo to its dealers advising them to address the issue and customers concerns and repair the Known Problem free of charge. Please reach out and instruct me with this Known Ford Problem so that we can resolve this ASAP.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-05
- VIN: 3FADP4BJ7BM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I only had 77k miles on my fiesta and always well maintained. The transmission system had an internal transmission failure and I was told it would cost $8600 to fix so I had to get a new car. 77k is very low for transmission issues. I called ford and they said only one part within the transmission was recalled so they couldn’t do anything about it. It’s very disheartening that 2011 was a year that didn’t have an extended transmission warranty but other years were. Since I couldn’t pay for the repair, I used it as an only $500 trade in for a new car instead of the Kelly blue book value. There were no problems before. I was driving to work and I heard a knocking sound so drove it to ford to be looked at.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-08
- VIN: 3FADP4EJ8BM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: No incident yet but can smell burnt clutch only 58,000 miles it's the dual clutch for DP6 transmission I think is the name of the transmission , if clutch fails while going up hill and hits the vehicle behind you because all of a sudden your car is not moving . Not related to 2011 Ford Fiesta , but girlfriends 2014 Ford Focus with around 58,000 miles on it ,mileage is close to my miles , transmission has problems transmission and engine light came on , code said actuator A is bad , but from what I've read on the internet that when transmission and engine light both come on it says bad transmission control module . Her car is 2014 Ford focus , going to call dealer tomorrow, her extended warranty expired in August of last year . I have also read that Ford has extended warranty on TCM to 10 years . We are not wanting to take it there an have them tell us transmission needs replaced . I've owned Ford's all my life never seen so many transmission problems with a vehicle as Ford has with this dual clutch transmission. I used to be a mechanic all my life , I rebuilt transmissions for 14 years never seen any ford problems like these transmissions are having . If we are told her transmission is bad that will be the last Ford's I'll ever own , transmission replacement is 7000 to 8000 dollars to replace when Ford knows this transmission has problems , not really fair an owner has to spend that kind of money on something that Ford knows is bad from the year 2011 to 2018. Thank you for your time
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

- Summary: My 2011 Ford Fiesta shudders, has sudden or Delayed Acceleration, delays in downshift, difficulty stopping/braking,it hesitates when changing gears.also has harsh engagement.I purchased from a private owner in 2021. I have contacted Ford Motor Company Headquarters. I have taken it to my local Ford Dealership, told them what it does, they would not drive it so they could see what it does and how dangerous it can be at times. All they said was "oh it's the TCM and we got them back ordered for 6 mths" But if I want to pay for and order the part and just leave my car setting at the Ford Dealership until the part comes in I can do that. Then pay God only knows how much for them to put the part on. This is the only vehicle I have right now. I told them that. They said "oh we can't give ya no loaner car for that long. And the longer you drive it like that the more it's gonna tear up other parts of your car. And The Ford Motor Company said Oh you missed the deadline for the buy back program or any compensation for your carI Ford has failed to meet the standards required by The Federal Motor Safety Commission and yhey refuse to acknowledge me or help me in any way. All the other 2011 Ford Fiesta cars with the Dual Shift Clutch Transmission were fixed or bought back or the owners were compensated. I am in the same unsafe predicament as those consumers were. I'm not asking for a brand new vehicle Or thousands of dollars. I just want my car fixed and something to drive to work and to the grocery store while they fix it. Or another car of equal value to what my car is supposed to be. Thank you in advance for anything you can help me with.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-03
- VIN: 3FADP4BJ0BM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My car would lose power while driving. Also, my 2011 Ford Fiesta would jump out of gear to hit the car in front of me when stopped at a light. Shuddering noises and when it lost power I would get locked out of the car. My safety and that of a passenger was at risk! I parked the car afraid to drive it and had it towed to a Ford Dealership. I was told a clutch module was recalled but, they didn't know if it was the problem.. As of today November 7, 2022 since last Wednesday the 3rd of November I have not heard back. I have anxiety waiting and I am afraid of my own car. I feel this car was a danger to drive as there were no warning lights and I did manage to stop at auto zone and 10 different codes came up all referring to the clutch and my ck engine light did not come on. I am a senior and I wish to sue the Ford company for this dangerous problem and safety issue. I could have been killed or have rear ended the car in front of me and the power loss was dangerous as well.

Took vehicle to second mechanic for second opinion. At that time they replaced brake master cylinder all rear brake components, brake fluid flush and after completing that work mechanic came to us and said this vehicle will be needing a whole new ABS system and that cannot be done because Ford and other companies stopped making the parts to complete the job. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-06-26
- VIN: 3FADP4BJ1BM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: In 2019 the Ford Fiesta refused to crank, key in the ignition the cars dash would light up, but the only sound produced was a small tick. After several unsuccessful visits to the mechanic, we finally took it to the Ford dealership and it was discovered that the TCM needed to be reprogrammed or replaced, after getting it replaced, for no charge, we no longer experienced the cranking issue. Apparently, the Ford dealership was aware of the recall but this information was left out upon purchase from CarMax. This information was not listed on this site either. I'm reporting this issue so that the next owner of the vehicle won't be surprised and devastated like we were.
2011 Ford Fiesta recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2011 Ford Fiesta.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
- Consequence: A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the agency on April 23, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured July 1, 2012, to May 31, 2013, and 2012-2014 Fiesta vehicles manufactured February 1, 2012, to May 31, 2013. On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 119,567 vehicles, including certain model year 2011 Ford Fiestas manufactured from November 11, 2009, to May 31, 2013 and certain model year 2013 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured from February 1, 2012, to June 30, 2012.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace all four door latches with an improved part, free of charge. Interim notifications were mailed to owners on June 5, 2015. The recall began on December 18, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S16.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Ford is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Fiesta vehicles, manufactured from November 3, 2009 through September 21, 2012. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." The passenger side curtain air bag will not deploy in the event of a side impact collision when the front passenger seat is empty. Although the side curtain air bag system was designed to suppress the side curtain air bag under this scenario, that information is not explained in the owner's guide for these vehicles as required by FMVSS No. 208.
- Consequence: An occupant in the right rear seating position will not have coverage from the side curtain air bag in a side impact collision when the front passenger seat is empty, increasing the risk of injury to the right rear occupant.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners and dealers will reprogram the vehicle's software free of charge so that it no longer suppresses the passenger side curtain air bag when the front passenger seat is empty, and consistent with the description in the owner's guide. The safety recall began on October 26, 2012. Owner's may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

Positive 2011 Ford Fiesta car reviews

The fuel economy of my car has been fantastic, averaging over 45 MPG on almost exclusively highway driving, even after the first thousand miles. The manual transmission is smooth and provides ample power. The car looks sharp in white, especially with the hatchback, graphics, and tinted windows. However, there are some concerns regarding the comfort and safety of the front seats, particularly the headrests which could cause injury in the event of a rear-end collision.

Welcome! We are excited to introduce you to the new Fiesta from Ford's European branch. This car is part of a legacy of smaller, nimble hatchbacks (Fiesta, Escort, Focus) that have been the backbone of sales in Europe for years. For under $20k, you can have a car that is appointed as well as any $30k mid-size, but with so much more character! Its fluid styling and vibrant colors make it an instant hit no matter where it's parked. The winning formula is all there, and we encourage you to try it out for yourself. I've had the car for almost six days and driven it for 600 miles. It's a very impressive little car! Although the price was cheap, the car itself is anything but. The ride is quiet and firm, yet not harsh, and it handles very well. The engine is smooth and quiet, and it loves to rev. Compared to my old Toyota Matrix, this car is at least a class better in terms of refinement and extras. While there is no center armrest and not much in the way of side storage, the back seat has good headroom and comfort, although legroom is a bit tight. The speedometer is off by 4-5 mph, but Ford says it's not a big deal. The workmanship and A/C are better than the Matrix, and there are lots of little extras, like lighted power window switches and map lights in the back seat. The bar has definitely been raised in this class by a lot, and this car is solid.

I've owned this car for over eight years and I must say, it's a very intelligently designed car. It provides great value for the dollars spent, both at the time of purchase and since then. The ride and handling are just right, making it a fun car to drive. It's stable on the highway and doesn't get buffeted about by wind from passing trucks. The car is also very quiet and the heated seats and heater/defroster work very well. It's unfortunate that Ford has decided to discontinue sales in the U.S. (again), but maybe it will return (again). I've given thought to trading the Fiesta in for a 2019 model since they are selling for less now than I paid in 2010 as Ford gets out of the sedan business. However, I still like the car very much and have no complaints. It has been over nine years since I bought the Fiesta and I still feel very much the same about it. Honestly, I'd like to give credit to the engineers who designed this inexpensive car so intelligently. I also give credit to the people who built and assembled the car. Some friends have suggested that I buy a new car to help out our currently economy, hurt as it is by the corona virus. That's the most compelling reason to sell the Fiesta and buy a new vehicle. My Fiesta will be ten years old in December and it's still doing fine and looks great as well. The exterior is in very good shape, especially considering it does not have a place in our garage so it stays outdoors all the time. And, the interior is in fine shape and cleans up so well. I made a smart purchase way back when. The Fiesta is now ten years and three months old and doing great. I just had the oil changed, new wipers installed and tires rotated. When it warms up a bit, I'll clean the interior then wash and polish it. No problems at all. The Fiesta turned eleven years old this past December and everything about it is still great. It made it through another northwest Ohio winter without any problems of any kind.Hello! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share that my Fiesta will be 12 years old in December and it's still going strong with just over 70k miles. In fact, it actually gained value in the past year! With the average price of a new vehicle at about $50,000, I'll definitely be waiting until prices fall again (as they will) before shopping for something new. I think my Fiesta was a smart choice and it still looks good. I'm hoping that Ford will make a small electric vehicle sometime soon. By the way, I don't think anyone cares to read about the condition of a 12 year and 3 month old Fiesta, but just for the record, it's still fine. As soon as the weather gets warm enough, I'll give it a good spring cleaning inside and out. Thanks for listening!

It's great to hear that you and your wife have been enjoying your Fiesta for the past 9 months! You've already put 10.5k miles on it, including a long trip from Austin, TX to Charleston, SC and back, totaling over 2400 miles of travel. It's impressive that the car has been reliable every step of the way. The Fiesta is an excellent vehicle for its price, with solid construction (I love how heavy the doors are) and comfortable seats that can be adjusted to personal taste. The sedan also has excellent storage space. While the Sync system has been a little fussy at times, it's not a deal-breaker and just takes a little time to get used to. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

My Ford Fiesta began experiencing transmission issues with less than 1800 miles on it. Despite being fine when cold, the transmission would start chattering while maintaining a steady traffic speed of 30 MPH after warming up. The issue has since worsened, occurring between 30 and 55 MPH. On two occasions, the transmission failed to release when attempting to stop at a red light, causing me to drive through the intersection. Despite my fear, I have no choice but to continue driving the car. I took it to Kline Motors, a Ford dealership in Winfield KS, where they charged me over $172 for a two-hour inspection but failed to resolve the issue.

The car had only 4300 miles on it when the engine blew up, and we were understandably upset. We contacted Ford to have it towed to the dealer for repair, but unfortunately, two days later, we received a call saying that the car had been wrecked. Despite the fact that no one knew how this had happened, Ford voided the warranty, which meant that we had to use our insurance. We were able to obtain statements from firefighters who had inspected the car when they arrived at the scene of the fire, and they confirmed that there was no damage to the car other than the blown engine. However, Ford was not willing to listen to our side of the story. It is disappointing that they seem to have forgotten the importance of customer care after the sale.

I purchased this car used with 45k miles as a replacement for my older 2000 Celica GTS with 200k miles, intending to use it as my daily commuter. The car has many positive attributes, including great fuel efficiency, an attractive appearance, a comfortable ride, convenient placement of most controls, adequate power for a small car, and ample cargo space. However, it is unfortunate that the car is plagued by the well-known transmission issue, which I experienced firsthand. Although I had to take the car to the dealer twice, I was able to get it fixed. Additionally, some minor issues began to arise at 54k miles, but they were too numerous to list. In hindsight, I regret not conducting more research before purchasing the car. I have since sold it and returned to driving my 2000 Celica, which has never given me any problems in the seven years I have owned it.

The transmission slipped out of the blue while I was on the highway. We had some problems before, like the battery dying when it was just a couple of years old, and the car stalling when coming to a stop. Unfortunately, nobody could tell us what was wrong, and they all thought I was crazy. This latest highway incident is the last straw for me. It was so dangerous! Additionally, the clutch is now shot, and neither the dealership nor Ford will cover it. It's frustrating! This car is just not safe.

This car had some issues. I experienced problems from the very first day of owning it. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of money on it because it didn't come with a warranty, as I purchased it from a private party. In my opinion, the automatic transmission was not up to par. I ended up replacing it for $2280, but the car still had some issues. I bought this car used with 93,000 miles on it, and it turned out to be the worst decision I've ever made. I spent more money on it in one year and four months than what I paid for it. However, I'm grateful that I was able to sell it, even though it was for a very cheap price.
