Common 2016 Porsche Macan turbo problems
The Porsche Macan Turbo 2016 is a popular compact luxury SUV, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that potential buyers should be aware of. Here are some of the most common issues reported by owners:
- Transfer Case - Vibrations Under Acceleration or When Turning at Low Speed: Many Macan owners have experienced vibrations or unsteady acceleration around the 25-35 mph range. This is usually subtle initially but gets steadily worse, especially when moving forward at low speed with the wheels turned tightly. The problem stems from the transfer case in the four-wheel drive system and is a regularly reported issue. Replacement of the transfer case is the best option to solve this problem, but it's a complex repair that requires extended knowledge and experience.
- Oil Leaks - Timing Case Cover: Early Porsche Macan V6 owners commonly experienced the now infamous oil leak from the timing case cover seal. Oil leaks can occur in any of the seals on the engine, but the timing case seal is still a likely cause of oil loss in the future. The repair is not simple and requires extended knowledge and experience, typically billed as a 40-hour job. Unfortunately, the timing case cover is located in a difficult-to-reach area, making the repair even more challenging.
- Fuel Leak: A faulty fuel connector could potentially allow fuel to leak out of examples made between 24 January 2014 and 26 October 2015. Speak with your Porsche dealer to find out if your car is affected and requires remedial work.
- Brake Servo: A problem with the brake servo on some cars built from 27 January 2014 and 10 April 2014 could result in reduced assistance under light braking. A dealer will be able to let you know if your car is involved in this recall and will be able to check the servo for you, and even replace it free of charge if damage is found.
- Front Passenger Airbag: The front passenger airbags of a small number of Macans constructed from 4 March 2014 and 20 October 2015 may not deploy in a collision, due to a faulty seat occupancy detector. Find out if your car is affected by speaking to your dealer, because a new sensor will need to be fitted.
- Non-engine Electrical Issues: The most common issues reported by Macan owners are non-engine electrical issues, which accounted for 9.9% of problems. Bodywork issues racked up 5.6% of complaints, while 2.8% related to interior trim and another 2.8% to suspension.
While these issues are common, it's important to note that the Macan is still a reliable car overall. In the most recent What Car? Reliability Survey, the Macan came 12th out of 24 cars in the large SUV class, with a reliability score of 94.1%. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common issues and consider them when purchasing a used Macan.

The identified fault was: Airbag (variant 002) B12251B "Seat occupancy sensor on passenger side (BOSE) - resistance too high" I have been advised that NHTSA has issued two recalls on this problem. My Porsche Service Center has advised that the originally installed passenger side occupancy sensor was replaced pursuant to one of the recalls. Despite the same problem affecting the presently installed passenger side occupancy sensor, my Porsche Service Center has advised that it is not subject to a recall. It has proposed repairing the sensor at a cost to me of $3,124.23. I believe that the repair should be conducted under the terms of the prior recalls, since the presently installed passenger side occupancy sensor is clearly defective.

THERE IS ALSO A MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATION (#D2000.1)RELATING TO THE OIL LEAK. NHTSA ID # 10182254. AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-02-05
- VIN: WP1AB2A52GL
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: CAR HAS JUST PASSED 60,000 MILES AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT ON. I TOOK IT FOR AN INSPECTION AT THE PORSCHE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO REPLACE THE SEAT CUSHION, ALONG WITH THE MODULE THAT COMES WITH IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT I WANT TO REPORT. I DO NOT NORMALLY SIT IN THE PASSENGER, NOR HAVE PASSENGERS. UNFORTUNATELY THAT IS THE SEAT LIGHT SHOWING AIRBAG ISN'T WORKING THE RIGHT WAY. I DID MY RESEARCH AND FOUND IN 2017 WHICH IS RIGHT AFTER MY MODEL HAD CAME OUT THERE WAS A RECALL BUT JUST NOT FOR MY VIN. I WOULD LIKE PORSCHE TO TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK AT THIS MATTER BECAUSE THAT IS COMPLETELY A FACTORY AND SAFETY ISSUE THEREFORE I RECKON A RECALL UPON IT. THE DEALER FILED A CASE FOR ME THAT DAY BUT I WAS LATER REFUSED. THE REP RESPONDED THIS ISSUE WON'T ONLY AFFECT ANYONE WHO ISN'T AN ADULT... WHICH MEANS IF YOU'RE A MINOR OR A TEEN SITTING IN THAT SEAT IT WOULD COST SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN IN ANY ACCIDENT?
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-12-17
- VIN: WP1AB2A54GL
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I OBESERVED CRACKS IN MY SUNROOF UNDER FROST CONDITIONS. CRACKS ARE PRESENT IN BOTH THE STATIONARY PORTION OF THE SUNROOF AS WELL AS THE MOVING COMPONENT. DURING EXTREME COLD WEATHER I FURTHER OBSERVED THAT THE ENRIRE INTERIOR OF THE SUNROOF WAS COVERED IN HEAVY CONDENSATION. I REPORTED THIS TO MY DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER WHO RESUFES TO HELP. I KNOW THAT MY CAR WAS BASED ON THE AUDI Q5 PLATFORM WHILE HAD A SIMILAR RECALL IN 2012 FOR DEFECTIVE SUNROOFS UNDER EXTREME COLD WEATHER. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THESE RELATED.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

- Summary: 2016 PORSCHE MACAN. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT CLEAR THE WINDOWS PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED TO DISCOUNT THE PRICE OF A NEW WINDSHIELD. *JS
AIR BAGS,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-04-23
- VIN: WP1AF2A52GL
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEATS
- Summary: WHEN AN ADULT SITS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ON TOP OF A NORMAL BED PILLOW NEEDED BECAUSE OF MEDICAL PROBLEMS, THE AIRBAG PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR THAT SEAT OCCUPANT TURNS OFF. I NOW HAVE TO SIT IN THE BACK SEAT SINCE I AM UNPROTECTED AS A RESULT OF FRONT AIRBAG DEACTIVATION DUE TO PILLOW USE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I AM A 65 YEARS OLD MAN, WEIGH 200 POUNDS AND AM 6 FEET TALL. I HAVE OWNED AT LEAST 7 PORSCHES OVER MY LIFETIME AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS IS A PROBLEM. BY THE WAY, IT IS NOT A PROBLEM IN THE LATEST 911. THE BACK SEATS ARE OBVIOUSLY LESS COMFORTABLE. WE SPENT EXTRA MONEY TO BUY THE MOST COMFORTABLE FRONT SEATS AVAILABLE FROM PORSCHE BUT NOW REALIZE THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS USELESS AND UNSAFE FOR ANY ADULT NEEDING A PILLOW FOR SITTING. WE WILL NOT BUY A MACAN AGAIN. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER MECHANICS (VIA ACTUAL DEMONSTRATION) WHO WERE, FRANKLY, FLABBERGASTED AT THIS FINDING OF WHICH THEY AND THE SALES AND SERVICE PEOPLE WERE ALLEGEDLY UNAWARE. THEY COULD OFFER NO WORKAROUND. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY OR MOVING AND IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT KIND OF ROAD IS BEING DRIVEN ON OR WHAT BRAKING MIGHT BE HAPPENING OR NOT. I BELIEVE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM SEAT SENSORS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ARE NOT DESIGNED SAFELY TO ALLOW FOR THE USE OF A CUSHION OR PILLOW BY AN ADULT AND STILL HAVE AIRBAG PROTECTION TURNED ON. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE CONFIGURATION AND COULD HARM THE UNINFORMED OR UNAWARE. PORSCHE OWNERS DO TEND TO BE OLDER AND MIGHT HAVE MEDICAL ISSUES REQUIRING SUCH THINGS AS A PILLOW FOR SITTING MORE COMFORTABLY. I FIRST NOTICED/UNDERSTOOD THIS PROBLEM APRIL, 2018, AND HAD THE DEALER BRING AROUND NEW 2018 MACAN TO TEST FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT ALSO HAD THE SAME RESPONSE OF TURNING OFF THE AIRBAG WHEN A PILLOW WAS USED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-01-09
- VIN: WP1AB2A54GL
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 75 IN ATLANTA. THERE WAS NO OVERPASS ABOVE ME AND, BECAUSE IT WAS THE EARLY AFTERNOON, THERE WERE FEW CARS/TRUCKS AROUND. THERE WAS NO DEBRIS FLYING THROUGH THE AIR OR ROCKS BEING KICKED UP FROM THE PAVEMENT. INEXPLICABLY, MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED OVER MY HEAD. THE GLASS SHATTERED AND THOUSANDS OF SHARDS FELL ON THE WINDSCREEN. (LUCKILY, I HAD THE WINDSCREEN CLOSED OR THAT GLASS WOULD HAVE COVERED ME.) I WAS ON MY WAY TO KENTUCKY FOR THE WEEKEND BUT HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO BRING THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TO PORSCHE ATLANTA PERIMETER. THE AGENTS AND SERVICE EMPLOYEES SEEMED GENUINELY SHOCKED AT THE DAMAGE AND KEPT TELLING ME HOW LUCKY I WAS... I ENDED UP SPENDING $600 FOR THE RENTAL CAR WHILE THEY WORKED ON THE CAR. IT TOOK A WEEK AND A HALF. I TALKED TO A CONSUMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER AT PORSCHE PERIMETER REGARDING THE OCTOBER '17 CONSUMER REPORT ARTICLE ABOUT EXPLODING SUNROOFS. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME AFTER HE DID SOME RESEARCH (HE DIDN'T) AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY ON BEHALF OF PORSCHE. I WAS TOLD THAT PERHAPS A PREEXISTING "NICK" IN MY SUNROOF WAS WHAT COMPROMISED THE GLASS. THERE WAS NO NICK, AND EVEN IF THERE WAS, I THINK THEY SHOULD LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT SUCH A NICK MAY RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC INJURY. I HAD TO PAY $3,100 FOR THE REPAIRS. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN PORSCHE. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW.
