The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.

Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.

Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.

The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2007 Ford F-350 problems

The Ford F-350, a popular heavy-duty truck, has faced several issues over the years, as reported by its owners. Here are some of the most common problems:

  • Fuel Jumper Line: Certain pickup trucks and chassis cab vehicles equipped with 5.4L or 6.8L gasoline engines may have an incorrect end form on the fuel jumper line. This can lead to fuel leaks and potential fire hazards.
  • Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM): Ford F-350 models equipped with 6.0L diesel engines may experience stalling without warning while driving. This issue can be caused by a faulty FICM wire harness or a malfunctioning injection control pressure sensor connector.
  • EGR Failure: Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a common problem in 6.0L Powerstroke engines, particularly in 2003-2007 Ford F-250 and F-350 Superduty trucks. EGR failure can lead to high engine coolant temperatures and reduced engine performance.
  • Oil Cooler Failure: The oil cooler in 6.0L Powerstroke engines can fail, causing oil temperatures to rise drastically. This issue can be caused by buildup in the coolant passageways and requires a new engine oil cooler to fix.
  • Head Gasket Issues: The 6.0L Powerstroke engines come with only four 14mm Torque-to-Yield (TTY) head bolts per cylinder. Under high load or performance modifications, these bolts can stretch, reducing their clamping pressure and potentially causing a blown head gasket. Upgrading to ARP Head Studs can help prevent this issue.

These are just a few of the common problems reported by Ford F-350 owners. It is essential to stay informed about potential issues and address them promptly to ensure the safety and longevity of the vehicle.

I HAVE RECEIVED AT LEAST TWO LETTERS FROM FORD CONCERNING THIS ISSUE. THE ONE I HAVE BEFORE ME IS LISTED AS LITERATURE PROGRAM 09L02. IT STATES THAT FORD AND NHTSA ARE STUDYING THE ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY THAT DOES LITTLE GOOD FOR ME AS MY VEHICLE IS BASICALLY AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE SEVERE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WHEEL VIBRATIONS RENDER THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS THEY (THE SEVERE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WHEEL VIBRATIONS) HAPPEN WITH NO PROVOCATION AT TIMES AND THE VIBRATIONS BECOME SO VIOLENT THAT KEEPING CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, ADDITIONALLY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE IS IMPOSSIBLE. I HAVE HAD THE SEVERE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WHEEL VIBRATIONS OCCUR AT SPEEDS FROM @20MPH TO 55MPH.

  • VIN: 1FTWW31P77E
  • Components: SUSPENSION
  • Summary: I HAVE A 2007 F-350 HARLEY DAVIDSON CC AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS MOSTLY IN CORNERS BUT ALSO ON STRAIGHTAWAY, THE TRUCK STARTS SHAKE VIOLENTLY, ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE. TO GET THIS TO STOP, I HAVE TO SLOW WAY DOWN AND ALMOST STOP. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY REPLACED SOME OF THE FRONT STEERING COMPONENTS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED, BUT ABOUT 100 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, THE SHAKING STARTED AGAIN. I SUBSEQUENTLY CALLED THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THAT THEY COULD DO, AS THE TRUCK IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS PROBLEM WAS REPORTED, AND SUPPOSEDLY FIXED PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY RUNNING OUT. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THEIR TRUCKS. THE SEVERITY OF THE SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL SAFELY. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, AND WOULD LIKE FOR SOMEONE AT FORD TO LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T AGREE THAT FORD WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE, HOWEVER I JUST WANT MY TRUCK FIXED. WHETHER OR NOT I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, I JUST WANT SOMEONE TO TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MODIFICATIONS, AND THE TIRES ON MY TRUCK HAVE BEEN SUPPLIED BY THE DEALER. *TR
