2009 Ford F-350 problems
The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.
Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.
Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.
The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2009 Ford F-350 problems
The 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty is a heavy-duty pickup truck that has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues:
- Death Wobble: This is a common problem that affects the F-350's steering system. The death wobble is a violent shaking of the steering wheel that can occur when driving at high speeds, particularly over rough or uneven surfaces. The problem is caused by a variety of factors, including loose steering components, worn suspension parts, and unbalanced tires. The death wobble can be dangerous and requires immediate attention from a qualified mechanic.
- Leaf Spring Issues: The leaf springs on the F-350 are responsible for supporting the weight of the truck and its payload. Over time, these springs can sag or break, leading to a variety of problems, including poor handling, reduced ride quality, and decreased load capacity. Replacing worn or damaged leaf springs is a complex and time-consuming process that requires specialized tools and expertise.
- Steering Wheel Sticking and Locking: Some F-350 owners have reported issues with the steering wheel sticking or locking in place. This problem is often caused by a faulty steering column or a damaged steering gearbox. In some cases, the problem can be resolved by replacing the affected component, but in other cases, the entire steering system may need to be replaced.
- Power Steering Issues: The power steering system on the F-350 can also be prone to failure. Common problems include leaks in the power steering pump or hoses, worn or damaged steering gearbox components, and electrical issues. Power steering problems can make the truck difficult to maneuver and can lead to premature wear on other steering components.
- Rear Wide Axle Issues: The rear wide axle on the F-350 is responsible for transmitting power to the rear wheels. Over time, this axle can become worn or damaged, leading to a variety of problems, including reduced traction, vibration, and noise. Replacing the rear wide axle is a complex and expensive process that requires specialized tools and expertise.
- Driveshaft Issues: The driveshaft on the F-350 is responsible for transmitting power from the transmission to the rear axle. Over time, this shaft can become worn or damaged, leading to vibration, noise, and reduced traction. Replacing the driveshaft is a complex and expensive process that requires specialized tools and expertise.
- Transmission Lurching Issues: Some F-350 owners have reported issues with the transmission lurching or jerking during acceleration. This problem is often caused by a faulty torque converter or a damaged transmission control module. In some cases, the problem can be resolved by replacing the affected component, but in other cases, the entire transmission may need to be replaced.
- Transmission Calibration Issues: The transmission on the F-350 is controlled by a complex system of sensors and actuators. Over time, these components can become misaligned or damaged, leading to a variety of problems, including poor shift quality, reduced fuel efficiency, and reduced towing capacity. Calibrating the transmission requires specialized tools and expertise.
- Unintended Rollaway Issues: Some F-350 owners have reported issues with the truck rolling away unexpectedly. This problem is often caused by a faulty parking brake or a damaged transmission shift interlock. In some cases, the problem can be resolved by replacing the affected component, but in other cases, the entire transmission may need to be replaced.
- Loose Steering: The steering system on the F-350 can also be prone to looseness or slack. This problem is often caused by worn or damaged steering components, including the steering box, tie rods, and ball joints. Loose steering can make the truck difficult to control and can lead to premature wear on other steering components.
- PTO Pressure Oil Leaks: The PTO (Power Take-Off) system on the F-350 is used to power auxiliary equipment, such as snow plows or hydraulic lifts. Over time, the PTO system can develop leaks, which can lead to a loss of pressure and reduced functionality. Replacing the affected seals or gaskets can help to resolve this problem.
- Spark Plug Issues: The spark plugs on the F-350 can also be prone to failure. Common problems include fouling, wear, and breakage. Replacing the spark plugs is a relatively simple process that can help to improve engine performance and fuel efficiency.
- Turbocharger Issues: The turbocharger on the F-350 is responsible for boosting engine performance and fuel efficiency. Over time, the turbocharger can become worn or damaged, leading to a variety of problems, including reduced power, increased emissions, and decreased fuel efficiency. Replacing the turbocharger is a complex and expensive process that requires specialized tools and expertise.
- Engine Block Heater Issues: The engine block heater on the F-350 is used to warm up the engine in cold weather. Over time, the engine block heater can become damaged or fail, leading to a variety of problems, including reduced engine performance and increased emissions. Replacing the engine block heater is a complex and expensive process that requires specialized tools and expertise.
- Squeaky Cabin: Some F-350 owners have reported issues with a squeaky or creaky cabin. This problem is often caused by worn or damaged interior components, including the seats, floor mats, and trim panels. Replacing the affected components can help to resolve this problem.

STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-12
- VIN: 1FTWW33R09E
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: While traveling at 65 mph, the truck crossed a separator strip resulting in loss of steering control. Vehicle steering wheel began violently "shaking" left to right and began to swerve violently in an area of heavy traffic. The vehicle was towing a 37 ft. 5th wheel at the time of the incident and I had to use a combination of braking and defensive steering to slow/stop the vehicle in the right side ditch of the road. Incident resulted in extreme wear to braking components, and minor alighnment issues due to leaving the roadway. Upon inspection by a certified mechanic, the issue was determined to be, "death wobble" and multiple components were replaced with OEM parts. Parts, services, inspection all paid for by me, yet the vehicle continues to shake violelently at random. New tires an quarterly alignments have not resolved this issue and 3 different Ford mechanics have advised removing the vehicle from service to avoid further accident or injury. Ford Motor has repeatedly denied assistance in any capacity concerning this issue.

- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
- Summary: I OWN A 2009 FORD F350 KING RANCH THAT I PURCHASED USED 2 YEARS AGO FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE FRONT END VIOLENTLY SHAKES WHEN IT ENCOUNTERS ANY DEFORMITY ON THE ROAD. THE SHAKES ARE SO INTENSE AND UNCONTROLLABLE THE I HAVE TO TRY AND PULL OFF THE ROAD TO NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE SHAKING DOES NOT STOP UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOPPED. I HAVE HAD THE BODY MOUNTS REPLACED, AN ALIGNMENT- BECAUSE I WAS TOLD PROPER TIRE INFLATION WOULD FIX IT- THE SHOCKS REPLACED, AND STEERING STABILIZER REPLACED. NONE OF THESE REMEDIED THE SITUATION. I AM TRYING TO SELL THE VEHICLE BUT SINCE THE DIFFERENT MECHANICS WE HAVE USED DON'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE/FIX THE PROBLEM, I AM UNABLE IT TO SELL IT WITH THIS COMMONLY KNOWN 'DEATH WOBBLE' THAT FORD IS AWARE OF. I ALSO CAN'T SAFELY DRIVE IT. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE, IN THE LAST MONTH, A COMPLETE FAULTY FUEL SYSTEM ($9,000) AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER, IN 2011, HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE MOTOR-WHICH WE WERE UNAWARE OF. *TR

BOTH ISSUES FORD IS AWARE OF BUT THEIR SERVICE PERSONNEL MUST BE DIRECTED TO ACT AS THE KNOW NOTHING BECAUSE IRONICALLY NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT EITHER OR THERE IS SPARCE KNOWLEDGE OF BOTH ISSUES THEY ARE BOTH DRIVING ISSUES. HOWEVER THE BODY MOUNT BUSHINGS YOU CAN SEE BEST WHEN PARKED

STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-15
- VIN: 1FTWW31R39E
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY CONCERNING MY PICKUP TRUCK LISTED IN COMPLAINT. IT ADDRESSED ISSUES WITH STEERING AND FRONT WHEEL VIBRATIONS AND OSCILLATIONS ON THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, IT JUST GIVES SUGGESTIONS SUCH AS CHECKING PROPER INFLATION OF TIRES, ETC. HOWEVER, IN THE LAST 2-3 YEARS, I HAVE SPENT AN ESTIMATED $3000.00 ON REPAIRS TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THIS VEHICLE DUE TO SEVERE "DEATH WOBBLE" ISSUES, WHICH SCARE THE HELL OUT OF YOU WHEN IT HAPPENS. SINCE COMPLETION OF THE WORK COMPLETED, I STILL HAVE ISSUES WITH VIBRATIONS AND OSCILLATIONS WITH MY FORD F350. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT FORD COMPANY NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE AND MAKE GOOD TO THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS, INSTEAD OF SENDING ME WORTHLESS LETTERS OF ADVICE TO "CHECK THE PROPER INFLATION OF MY TIRES, WHEN IN ACTUALITY, MY TIRES ARE FINE.....THE FORD TRUCK IS THE THING WITH ISSUES. COME ON FORD.....FIX YOUR BAD!!!!!!!!

CAMPER WAS BUILT IN 2014 AND I HAVE LESS THEN 1500 MILES ON THESE NEW GOODYEAR MARATHON ST 235/80R16 TIRES. THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE ON ALL THREE AT SPEEDS FROM 65 MILES PER HOUR ON FIRST TIRE, AND 47 AND 58 MILES PER HOUR ON THE OTHER TWO COMING HOME. I STILL HAVE ONE OF THESE WITH ME. WITH EXCEPTION OF FENDER DAMAGE ON ONE SIDE AND SUPPORT STRAPS BROKE, IT WAS NOT MUCH DAMAGE, BUT FEEL THESE TIRES ARE AT FAULT. SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE> VERY UNSAFE !!! MY WIFE WAS FOLLOWING ME AND THE TREAD BROKE UP IN SMALL PIECES ALL FROM THE OUTSIDE OF TIRE. THE SIDEWALLS AND UNDERLAYMENT OF THE TIRE WAS STILL INTACT. THIS CAMPER IS TOO NEW TO SEE THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS. FIRST TIRE WAS ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 485 AND THE SECOND WAS ON A HIGHWAY BETWEEN HICKORY AND LINCOLNTON. TIRE DOT # 2V UN 1LHX ON ALL THREE TIRES. I HAVE TWO LEFT FROM SAME CAMPER WITH SAME CODES. I DO NOT TRUST THESE TIRES!!! BUT ALWAYS THOUGHT GOODYEAR WAS GOOD TIRE. I CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE CONSTANTLY AND WAS AT 71 TO 75 LBS WHEN TIRE WAS COLD. THE TIRE SAYS IT MUST NOT EXCEED 80 LBS COLD.

2009 Ford F-350 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2009 Ford F-350.
- Manufacturer: PJ's Truck Bodies & Equipment Co.
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: PJ's Truck Bodies & Equipment Co., (PJ's) is recalling certain 2009-2013 Ford F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty chassis modified by PJ's and equipped with certain Muncie Power Products PTO Assemblies. In the affected vehicles, oil may leak from the PTO pressure switch onto a thermal blanket covering the exhaust.
- Consequence: The leaking oil may soak into the thermal blanket covering the exhaust, which when combined with heat from exhaust, may result in an increased risk of fire.
- Remedy: PJ's has notified owners and dealers will install a new pressure switch kit that moves the switch away from the exhaust system, free of charge. The recall began on August 28, 2014. Owners may contact PJ's customer service at 1-866-475-8782.
- Manufacturer: Monroe Truck Equipment
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Monroe Truck Equipment (Monroe) is recalling certain model year 2006, 2008 and 2009 Chevrolet C7500 vehicles, 2005-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles, and 2009 Ford F-350, and F-450 vehicles, equipped with Sure Power-brand battery equalizers or DC-DC converters containing a particular epoxy sealing, aka 'potting', compound. The specific potting compound used in the subject products for insulation was found to be capable of conducting electricity after being exposed to heat.
- Consequence: Once electrically conductive, the material is capable of melting and burning, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Monroe will notify owners, and Sure Power will replace the equalizers or converters, free of charge. The recall began on March 24, 2014. Owners may contact Monroe at 1-608-328-8127.
