The Ford Explorer Sport Trac (also shortened to Ford Sport Trac) is a pickup truck that was manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company for the North American market. The first mid-sized pickup truck produced by Ford, the Sport Trac was marketed from the 2001 to the 2010 model years (skipping the 2006 model year). Sized between the Ranger (whose crew cab variants were sold outside of North America) and the F-150, the Sport Trac largely competed against crew-cab variants of the midsize Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon, Dodge Dakota, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma.

Produced over two generations, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac shared its chassis and much of its body from the Ford Explorer SUV (with the pickup truck bed designed specifically for the model line). All production was sourced from the Louisville Assembly Plant in Louisville, Kentucky (taking the place of the Ford Ranger).

As Ford developed the fifth-generation Ford Explorer as a unibody crossover for the 2011 model year, the Sport Trac was phased out of the model line, with production ending in October 2010. Closely matching the Sport Trac in size, the fourth-generation Ford Ranger serves the same market function in its SuperCrew four-door crew cab configuration.

    I love the design, it's perfect for me! It's great for carrying things, but not too much. The roll down rear window, seating, and 4 doors make it the perfect design. Bravo! However, it would be nice to have better quality. At 46K, I've had to replace 4 sets of brake pads, 1 rotor cut job, a rotor replacement, and a transmission valve body replacement. Unfortunately, the rattle that I've been trying to address since day one is still present, and no one seems to have a clue. It's definitely the most expensive car I've ever had to maintain. If only Ford had an engineering department to back up the design department, it would be even better!

    Despite being a 4x4 loaded model that I take great care of, my vehicle has been in the shop three times in less than a year. The dealer sold me bad Firestone tires that needed a recall, the power steering pump went out, and almost all of the oil sensors had to be replaced when my oil pressure gauge went haywire. Additionally, the wind noise is unbearable at times, prompting everyone who rides in it to ask 'what is that noise?' Despite these issues, I am confident that I can find a buyer willing to pay the loan amount for this vehicle.

    This truck was a wedding gift from my father, so I probably shouldn't complain about it, but I'll share my experience with you. It's a very heavy truck, which makes it a bit challenging to drive. The steering, shocks, and brakes require a bit more effort than I'm used to. Unfortunately, the fuel economy isn't great, averaging around 10-12 miles per gallon instead of the advertised 16-17. However, I'm looking forward to paying off my other car so I can trade this one in.

    I have driven several Fords over the past 25+ years, but none of them compare to my Sport Trac. I absolutely love this truck! With 2 small children, it handles my family's needs quite nicely. Sometimes I wish for a longer bed, but I knew how long it was when I bought it, right? Interestingly, my wife drives an Explorer, but she jumps at the chance to take my Sport Trac every time. The seats are comfortable and, for a V-6, it has great power. To everyone who read the Consumer Report on the Sport Trac, remember that opinions are like armpits - everyone has them and some stink! Hats off to Ford on the Sport Trac!

    Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my vehicle. I bought it used with around 24,000 miles and it's been great so far! The only issue I had was with the front brake pads, but that was my fault for letting them get too low. Other than that, no problems at all! I do have one small curiosity though - when I have the rear window down, I can hear a squeaking noise coming from the area between the bed of the vehicle and the cab. It's not a big deal, but it can be slightly annoying. Interestingly, I read a review in Consumer Reports and they mentioned the same thing. Have you experienced anything similar? Let me know! :)

    This vehicle is incredibly versatile. Whether you're loading up friends for a day at the lake or tools for a job, it handles it all with ease. It's sporty, rugged, and yet comfortable, with many upgrades available to make it even better. Personally, it has suited my lifestyle perfectly. The ride is smooth and comfortable, and it drives very well. The only downside is the gas mileage, but that's to be expected with an SUV.

    I really appreciate this vehicle's versatility as a truck-suv-touring car. Even on long trips of over 500 miles, I find the ride and comfort to be exceptional. In fact, the fuel mileage is even better than my better half's Liberty. While the brakes could use an upgrade, the four-wheel drive works very well. Additionally, there are many aftermarket items available to enhance its sporty look, and I've found that Michelin tires make all the difference over the original Goodyears. Unfortunately, I did need to replace the ball joints after only 20,000 miles due to the original ones not being sealed properly.
