Ford Explorer sport trac 2007 problems
The Ford Explorer Sport Trac (also shortened to Ford Sport Trac) is a pickup truck that was manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company for the North American market. The first mid-sized pickup truck produced by Ford, the Sport Trac was marketed from the 2001 to the 2010 model years (skipping the 2006 model year). Sized between the Ranger (whose crew cab variants were sold outside of North America) and the F-150, the Sport Trac largely competed against crew-cab variants of the midsize Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon, Dodge Dakota, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma.
Produced over two generations, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac shared its chassis and much of its body from the Ford Explorer SUV (with the pickup truck bed designed specifically for the model line). All production was sourced from the Louisville Assembly Plant in Louisville, Kentucky (taking the place of the Ford Ranger).
As Ford developed the fifth-generation Ford Explorer as a unibody crossover for the 2011 model year, the Sport Trac was phased out of the model line, with production ending in October 2010. Closely matching the Sport Trac in size, the fourth-generation Ford Ranger serves the same market function in its SuperCrew four-door crew cab configuration.

STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-02-13
- VIN: 1FMEU51K27U
- Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: ISSUE FEB 2018 - PRESENT I BOUGHT MY 2ND- HAND 2007 FORD SPORT TRAC IN FEBRUARY 2018, FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. WE HAD EXPERIENCED 2 CAT-FIVE HURRICANES; POWER AND INTERNET WAS ALMOST NONEXISTENT, SO I COULD NOT RESEARCH THE TRUCK. ON THE SECOND DAY AFTER MY PURCHASE, WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STREET AT ABOUT 30 MPH, IT STALLED. I HAD VERY LITTLE BREAKS AND NO STEERING. WHEN I TRIED TO CRANK IT, IT WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT FIRE. FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS, I HAVE HAD NO LUCK FIXING THE ISSUE. UPON RESEARCH, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF BLOGS/ QUESTIONS / ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR FROM OWNERS TRYING TO FIX THE SAME ISSUE. ONE BLOG SAID THAT IT HAD BEEN REQUESTED FOR FORD TO DO A RECALL, BUT FORD DENIED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE. IT MAY DRIVE GREAT FOR 3 WEEKS AND THEN WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN A STEEP, CURVY MOUNTAIN IN TRAFFIC, IT TURNS OFF WITH NO WAY TO STOP QUICKLY OR CONTROL THE STEERING. IF YOU DRIVE TOO SLOWLY OR SOMEONE PULLS IN FRONT OF YOU AND DRIVES 5 MILES AN HOUR, IT WILL STOP. IF YOU PUNCH THE GAS PEDAL TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF A DANGEROUS SITUATION, IT WILL OFTEN STALL. SOMETIMES IT WON'T DRIVE, AND THEN IT SURGES FORWARD. IT OFTEN SOUNDS LIKE THE FUEL IS RUNNING RICH. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN SO YOU ARE ALWAYS IN DANGER. I HAVE CHANGED OUT THE STARTER SWITCH, SHIFT LINKAGE, JUST ABOUT EVERY SENSOR, PUMP, FILTER, WIRING, EGR VALVE, THROTTLEBODY' ANOTHER ORIGINAL OWNER ON ISLAND SAID HE'S READY TO DRIVE HIS OFF OF A CLIFF AFTER DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR THREE YEARS. HIS TRUCK IS A 2010 I BELIEVE. I CHECKED BACK WITH HIM RECENTLY. HE CHANGED OUT HIS COMPUTER SYSTEM AND IT IS NOW RUNNING PROPERLY FOR THE MOMENT. I CAN'T SELL MY TRUCK BC MY ETHICS WON'T ALLOW IT. I CAN'T TRASH IT BC I NEED TO SELL IT TO BUY ANOTHER. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK TO BE SAFE. IT HAS DONE NOTHING BUT PLACED ME IN DANGER AND DEPLETED MY WALLET.

THE REPAIR SHOP CALLED AND INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS RUNNING BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND IT GAVE A COMPUTER CODE FOR A BAD THROTTLE BODY MOTOR. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-09-04
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1FMEU73E57U
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: MY FORD EXPLORER 2007 HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE (56,000 MILES). ITS ENGINE STARTED TO SHUT OFF INTERMITTENTLY UNDER ALL TYPES OF CONDITIONS, STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. IT WAS INDEED VERY DANGEROUS. INDEED MY DAUGHTER, DRIVING THIS CAR, HAD AN ACCIDENT ON SEPT. 4, PRECISELY BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. FORTUNATELY IT HAPPENED IN A STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC WHICH DID NOT RESULT IN ANY INJURY. I HATE TO THINK OF CONSEQUENCES OF THIS HAPPENING IN FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. MY RESEARCH SHOWED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON FOR THESE AUTOS, AND IT SEEMS THAT IT IS NOT TAKEN CARE OF. AFTER HAVING MY MECHANICS CHECK EVERY CONCEIVABLE PROBLEM, I WAS REFERRED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEIR DIAGNOSIS DETERMINED THE INTERNAL PCM FAILURE TO BE THE CAUSE. IT TURNED OUT THAT THIS PART IS BELIEVED TO BE DEFECTIVE BECAUSE OF ITS DESIGN, AND A NEW ONE IS DEVELOPED WHICH IS ON BACK ORDER. I WAS LUCKY TO FIND A NEW PART AND HAD IT SHIPPED TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND INSTALLED. I HOPE THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. IT COST ME $1,546.41, WHICH I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD HAVE PAID ESPECIALLY WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I THINK THIS IS A CASE OF BAD/DEFECTIVE DESIGN OF THE PCM, WHICH IS ALSO A SAFETY PROBLEM AND I THINK THE FORD COMPANY SHOULD HAVE RECALLED AND REPLACE THIS PART FREE OF CHARGE.

I EASILY FOUND 25 PLUS CASES OF EXPLORER SPORTTRAC OWNERS WITH THE 4.6 V8 REPORTING THIS EXACT PROBLEM. FORD CHARGES OVER 3K TO FIX WHAT SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY DESIGN THAT HAPPENS ON THE MAJORITY OF THESE VEHICLES.

- Summary: THE TRUCK HAS BEEN LEAKING COOLANT. THE MECHANIC FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM. THE INTAKE ON THE MANIFOLD IS PLASTIC. IT GETS OVERHEATED ON THE METAL MANIFOLD AND CRACKS WHICH CAUSES COOLANT TO LEAK. WE'VE SPENT OVER $1000 GETTING REPAIRS. STILL LEAKS DUE TO THAT ONE FAULTY PART. EVERYTHING I'VE READ INDICATES THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS TAKEN NO STEPS TO CORRECT IT. My lease is finally over! I'm glad I got to enjoy this truck, even though the gas mileage wasn't great - only 16 mpg on a good week of city driving. I'm looking forward to checking out the new 2009 model when it's available at the dealer. There are a couple of things that could be improved, though - the gas mileage and the small compartments in the bed should be waterproof and have locks of some kind. I'm really going to miss this one.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with the ST trucks. This is actually the second one I've owned, having sold the first back in 2003. I have to say, this truck is a dramatic improvement! It serves all my needs, with plenty of space for the kids and all my outdoor fun. The ride is so smooth and comfortable, and the V6 gives plenty of power for everyday use. Plus, I think the look is much better than the Ridgeline. Thanks for listening!

I'm so glad to hear that you love your truck! It's great to know that it performs well when towing your 4500 pound travel trailer, and that you find it comfortable and fun to drive. I'm sure it would handle an even heavier trailer with ease. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!

The 2007 Limited has a lot of great features that set it apart from the XLT. The quality, ride, handling, and comfort are even better than expected. I'm happy to report that I haven't experienced any issues since driving it off the lot. It's a real winner!

I'm glad to hear that you're still enjoying your Sport Trac after a year! It sounds like it's a great fit for you, especially with your height and need for a mobile office. It's impressive that you've put 16,000 miles on it already with no issues. Your positive experience has even inspired some of your friends to get one too! Thanks for sharing your review.

I really like this truck overall. It meets my expectations and even gets slightly better gas mileage on the highway than I anticipated. The power and comfort are good, although the cloth seats could be a bit more comfortable. However, there are a couple of things that have been a bit frustrating. The tailgate has come off in my hands four times in the past year, and I was told that it was designed to come off easily to be replaced with the tailgates that allow air to flow through. While I understand the reasoning behind this design, it seems poorly executed. It would be much better if there was a latch or other device that needed to be disabled first to prevent the tailgate from accidentally coming off.

The interior of the vehicle could benefit from some improvements. While the door opener is functional, the grip on the door is awkward and can make it difficult to prevent the door from swinging too far. Additionally, the interior/exterior temperature gauges are quite small and can be hard to read. The message center is located in the middle of the dashboard, but the speedometer can be difficult to read through the steering wheel. The parking brake release is also somewhat cramped and hard to reach. Unfortunately, there is no indication on the dashboard as to what gear you're in, and there is no way to manually shift out of the overdrive(s). Lastly, the flip-over rack was bent and the locks wouldn't work, and when you flip the larger back seat down, there is a noticeable gap between the back of the seat and the cab.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the Explorer. I wasn't even planning on getting a Ford, but I ended up driving it off the lot and was initially very impressed with the car. However, it has had a few too many problems for my liking. The transmission has been particularly troublesome, as it keeps shifting as I decelerate to a stop, making for a very jerky ride. Although Ford said they were aware of the issue, they didn't have a fix at the time. They eventually 'reprogrammed' the transmission, which worked for a while, but it's acting very jerky again. I've also had issues with the gear shifter and exterior lights. I may have just gotten a bad one, but unfortunately, I won't be buying another Ford.
