Ford Explorer sport trac 2005 problems
The Ford Explorer Sport Trac (also shortened to Ford Sport Trac) is a pickup truck that was manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company for the North American market. The first mid-sized pickup truck produced by Ford, the Sport Trac was marketed from the 2001 to the 2010 model years (skipping the 2006 model year). Sized between the Ranger (whose crew cab variants were sold outside of North America) and the F-150, the Sport Trac largely competed against crew-cab variants of the midsize Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon, Dodge Dakota, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma.
Produced over two generations, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac shared its chassis and much of its body from the Ford Explorer SUV (with the pickup truck bed designed specifically for the model line). All production was sourced from the Louisville Assembly Plant in Louisville, Kentucky (taking the place of the Ford Ranger).
As Ford developed the fifth-generation Ford Explorer as a unibody crossover for the 2011 model year, the Sport Trac was phased out of the model line, with production ending in October 2010. Closely matching the Sport Trac in size, the fourth-generation Ford Ranger serves the same market function in its SuperCrew four-door crew cab configuration.

NOT REALLY SURE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH IT, BUT WHEN EVERYTHING STOPS WORKING, I SIT THERE AND HIT THE DASH TO GET THE LIGHTS AND WINDOWS TO START WORKING AGAIN. I USED TO BE ABLE TO HIT THE DASH WITH MY HAND AND GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF AND THE GAUGES START WORKING. WHEN I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD STORE AND TALKED TO THEM IN SERVICE, THEY QUOTED ME LIKE $400 FOR A PART AND JUST AS MUCH FOR LABOR, LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING THESE PROBLEMS AND THEY KNEW WHAT IT WAS TO FIX. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING, BUT WITH THE ODOMETER NOT REGISTERING MILES FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS, I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS CONSIDERED SALVAGE TITLE BECAUSE IT IS UNKNOWN MILES.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-05-11
- VIN: 1FMZU62K55U
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: 1) ABS, BRAKE, AND WRENCH FAILURE LIGHTS FLASHED ON FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND TURNED OFF WHEN DECELERATING WITH CRUISE CONTROL FROM 55 MPH TO 45 MPH ZONES AT COURLAND, VA. VEHICLE MANUAL PROVIDES NO GUIDANCE ON THIS FAILURE MODE; ONLY 'WARNING LIGHTS TURN ON AND CONTINUE FLASHING, REDUCE SPEED AND TAKE VEHICLE TO NEAREST SERVICE PROVIDER' AND 'WARNING LIGHTS TURN ON AND STAY ON, STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO NEAREST SERVICE PROVIDER.' 2) APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES LATER, DRIVER BEGAN APPLYING BRAKES TO DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL AND SLOW FROM 60 MPH TO 35 MPH SCHOOL ZONE SPEED ABOUT 50 TO 60 M BEFORE SCHOOL ZONE WARNING SIGN AT CAPRON ELEMENTARY, VA, ON STATE HIGHWAY 58. 3) DRIVER CHECKED SPEED UPON ENTERING SCHOOL ZONE AND FOUND CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT STILL ON AND VEHICLE STILL TRAVELING AT 60 MPH. DEPRESSED BRAKE APPROXIMATELY 1/3 TOTAL BRAKING RANGE (4 CM), WHICH SHOULD HAVE LOCKED THE BRAKES AND BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP. NO EFFECT. CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT REMAINED ON AND VEHICLE CONTINUED AT 60 MPH. 4) AT THIS POINT, DRIVER REALIZED THAT HE HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, PANICKED, AND DECIDED HE HAD TO STOP OR CRASH THE VEHICLE. DRIVER JAMMED THE BRAKE PETAL AS HARD AS HE COULD AND HELD. IT TOOK PROBABLY 3 SECONDS FOR THE REAR BRAKES TO FINALLY GO UP A LOGISTIC GROWTH RESISTANCE CURVE, GRAB, AND STOP THE VEHICLE. NO BRAKING BY FRONT WHEELS. ABS DID NOT WORK. CONTRIBUTING PHYSICAL DEFECTS: WORN-OUT FRONT BRAKES, EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE WAS KEPT UNDER RIGOROUS MAINTENANCE AND HAD VALID VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTION STICKER. WARPED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS MOST LIKELY INDUCED INTERMITTENT FALSE SIGNALS TO COMPUTER CONTROL CENTER CAUSING CRUISE CONTROL TO FAIL TO DISENGAGE.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-11-06
- VIN: 1FMDU73W55U
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO I STARTED HAVING AN ISSUE WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, THAT SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR IT WOULD REV AND HESITATE AND WHEN IT DOES IT TO MANY TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK TRANSMISSION MESSAGE APPEARS ON THE DISPLAY AND ALSO THE O/D LIGHT BLINKS AND MY TRUCK WILL ACT FUNNY UNTIL I SHUT IT OFF. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC IT IS GIVING THEM SEVERAL DIFFERENT ERROR CODES AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO TRY ALL 6 CODES TO FIGURE IT OUT. SINCE IT IS A CLOSED TRANSMISSION CASE THAT HAS NO DRAIN PLUG AND NO DIP STICK TO CHECK THE FLUID THEY REALLY DON'T WANT TO MESS WITH IT AND COST ME A TON OF MONEY TO FIGURE IT OUT. I HAVE 106,000 MILES ON IT CURRENTLY AND HOPE YOU GIVE ME A MORE PINPOINT RESOLUTION SO I CAN DECIDE IF I SHOULD GET IT REPAIRED AND WHAT MORE SPECIFICALLY THEY CAN TRY.

Hi there! I'm so glad to hear that you're okay after your accident. It sounds like it was a scary experience, but I'm relieved to hear that you only suffered some bruises and scratches. Your truck really did its job in protecting you! It's amazing that you were able to crawl out of the window and walk around like nothing happened. It's clear that you have a lot of love for your truck, and I can see why. It's a great size for hauling things around, but still has a smooth drive. If any parents out there are looking for a safe and reliable first car for their child, I would definitely recommend this truck. Wishing you all the best and safe driving!

A couple of years ago, I had my eyes on the Sport Trac and was really impressed with it. However, I was hesitant to buy one due to some past issues I had with an F-150. When I finally decided to make a purchase, I started looking at trucks and SUVs from all manufacturers, but I was particularly critical of Ford. I selected a vehicle from all the major manufacturers and then began the process of elimination by comparing features. Once I had narrowed it down to three vehicles, I went to dealerships for test drives and in-person comparisons. After extensive head-to-head tests, there was no denying that the Sport Trac was the clear winner in terms of features, style, usability, and build quality.

The truck is a great vehicle! Although we had some trouble with the transmission at 10,000 miles, the dealership handled it promptly. The only other issue we have is that the front seats become very uncomfortable on long trips for both my wife and me. We use the truck for everything - skiing, snowmobiling, boating, biking - and it's the perfect sports vehicle! It's not too big, not too small, and has decent gas mileage.

Bought this Sport Trac in October, had nothing but problems since. First the PCM burned up. Then three weeks later it wouldn't start. It's in the shop right now .They don't have a clue what's wrong with it. It only gets 10 miles to the gallon of gas. Has no power at all.

Hello! As I type this in November 2012, I wanted to share my experience with this truck. Although it has less than 12,000 miles, I have had to replace all 4 brakes and 2 rotors due to early failure. As a 6'1'' guy, I found that there isn't much room inside. The truck is also underpowered and only averages 17 mpg city/highway combined. Additionally, the short bed isn't very useful. One thing to note is that you can only unlock the doors with the key fob, not the keypad on the door. This truck belonged to my late father, and while I have driven many pickups over the years, this one is the worst. I had so much trouble with my 99 Sable and this 2005 Pickup that I am now a proud owner of a 2010 Honda Van. No wonder Ford dropped this model! The ride is choppy, and the controls are in weird places. I wouldn't have felt comfortable selling this truck to my customers. Give me an old F150 4x4 with an 8ft. bed any day!

The truck is wonderful overall, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The rear end can feel a bit unstable when hitting bumps at normal road speeds, especially when turning. Additionally, if you plan on storing anything under the power seats, it may be best to skip them as they can limit storage space. Lastly, the rear seats don't fold down completely flat if you need to store larger items underneath. Despite these minor issues, it's still a great truck!
