2007 Ford Freestyle problems
The Ford Freestyle is a crossover utility vehicle that was sold by Ford from 2005 to 2009. Largely marketed as the successor to the Ford Taurus station wagon, the Freestyle was the CUV counterpart of the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego four-door sedans. Sharing the Ford D3 platform with the Five Hundred and Montego, the Freestyle was produced with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations and six- or seven-passenger seating.
Following the return of the Ford Taurus for the 2008 model year, the Freestyle underwent a mid-cycle revision and was renamed the Ford Taurus X, marketed in the United States and Canada, as well as South Korea and the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam. Following the 2009 model year, the Taurus X was withdrawn. From the 2009 model year, the larger Ford Flex has served as the three-row Ford CUV/wagon.
From 2005 to 2009, the Freestyle/Taurus X was assembled at Chicago Assembly (Chicago, Illinois); the final vehicle was produced on February 27, 2009.

How many miles does a 2007 Ford Freestyle last?
With careful driving and good care you may get to 350,000 miles, but be prepared for that transmission crapping out unexpectedly. If you are thinking that by trading it in you are cutting your losses, I think at 200K miles you are too late. IF the car drives fine, just drive it until something major brakes.
Is Ford Freestyle good?
Great Handling And Driving Dynamics
I own a Freestyle 1.5 l diesel engine, and no doubt, it is the best in class, its powerful engine gave me great driving experience, it doesn't seem superficial like most other cars in this segment. There is no match to its drive dynamics, safety, stability, and mileage.
Does a 2007 Ford Freestyle have a CVT transmission?
Ford Freestyle (2005–2007)
As with the Ford Five Hundred/Mercury Montego, the Freestyle was available with front-wheel drive as standard with all-wheel drive as an option; the CVT of the all-wheel drive Five Hundred was the sole transmission on the Freestyle. The 203hp 3.0L Duratec V6 was the standard engine.

The average cost for Ford Freestyle Transmission Assembly Replacement is $5245.

- VIN: 1FMDK051X7G
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: WELL I NOTICED THIS ISSUE A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, I BOUGHT THE CAR BACK IN JULY OF 2019 WITH 123,000 MILES. WHENEVER I GO TO PARK OR REVERSE WITH THE A/C ON OR ANYTHING MY CAR LUNGES WITHOUT ME EVEN TOUCHING THE ACCELERATION AND I HAVE TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES NOT TO HIT ANYTHING. AND TODAY I REVERSED OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND IT LUNGES AS USUAL AND WHEN I STARTED DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD A WRENCH LIGHT FLASHED ON AND I WASN'T GETTING AS MUCH ACCELERATION AS USUAL. I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. IT JUST SCARES ME WITH IT LUNGING AND SPEEDING UP ON ITS OWN IN DRIVE THRUS, PARKING LOTS/SPOTS, AND SIMPLY WHEN I'M SITTING AND TURN MY WHEEL JUST A LITTLE BIT IT DECIDES IT WANTS TO ACCELERATE ON ITS ON! ALL THIS HAPPENED MOSTLY WHEN I JUST START DRIVING, OR PULLING IN SOMEWHERE OR REVERSING, AND SOMETIMES WHEN I'M STATIONARY AT A DRIVE THRU.

THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND USUALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS WARMED UP. IT HAS ALSO DIED AFTER THE SURGE. *TR

- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: LUNGING, LUGGING, WHILE STATIONARY OR AT LOW SPEED, FORWARD OR REVERSE, WARNING LIGHTS COME ON. I SEE THIS SAME COMPLAINT HUNDREDS OF TIMES ON THIS NHTSA SITE AS WELL AS INTERNET SEARCHES. AFTER READING NUMEROUS DETAILED ISSUES AND MATCHING MINE TO SPECIFIC COMPLAINTS, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ISSUE IS THE THROTTLE BODY. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY TRUSTED MECHANIC FOR REMOVAL AND THOROUGH CLEANING. THIS INEXPENSIVE REPAIR RESOLVED THE ENGINE LUNGING ISSUE. PLEASE PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION TO FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENTS VIA BULLETINS OR WHATEVER, SO THIS PROBLEM CAN BE RESOLVED EASILY AND QUICKLY. THE LUNGING IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, WITH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGING FORWARD FROM AN IDLING POSITION WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I SEE THAT EXPENSIVE, UNNECESSARY REPAIRS ARE BEING PERFORMED WHICH HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ISSUE. IT IS A THROTTLE BODY THAT JUST NEEDS TO BE CLEANED.

243000 miles and still running strong! I wouldn't hesitate to drive coast to coast! It's got plenty of power, even with 80mph speed limits in Texas, I was running 89mph in cruise control and there was still plenty left to pass when necessary. The room and hauling capacity are outstanding. We actually just bought another one to drive back to Wisconsin from California instead of flying with the Coronavirus happening now.

I traded my 05 Freestyle with only 30,000 miles to get the CVT, which unfortunately was phased out in the Taurus X. I usually drive my vehicles for 100,000 to 150,000 miles. After an hour of expressway driving with the six-speed AT, I decided to take the depreciation hit. However, my 07 model has had no mechanical issues and the fit and finish are excellent. I love how I can get away from stoplights faster than most and there's no need to hunt for gears as the RPMs stay up and then come down to cruise. It's also a very comfortable vehicle for six adults!
-
I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it new and have driven it for 30,000 miles. I'm happy to say that it has been 100% trouble-free and everything still works like new. I've only needed to do oil changes and tire rotations, and nothing else. The car gets great mileage, even better than what's on the EPA sticker. I get 21 to 22 MPG in town and 28 to 29 on trips. It's a very comfortable car to drive, even for tall drivers like myself. The fit and finish are superb, and I would say it rivals the Mercedes and Infinity cars I've owned before. The leather seats have excellent lumbar support and adjust to very comfortable positions. It's also great for hauling large loads with the seats folded down, and it can pull my 16' boat with ease at 75 mph. Overall, I think it's a fantastic car!

As an engineer, I have a tendency to research things to the last detail. In my search for a family car that had a good combination of safety, fuel economy, roominess, luxury, and price value, I looked at everything available and the Freestyle won my heart. We bought a used 2007 Limited and it has been amazing. The car is gorgeous with its Titanium green color and tan leather interior. It has lots of room for storage and is very comfortable. On the highway, it gives an impressive fuel economy of almost 30 miles per gallon. The navigation system is wonderful and the back-up sensors are very helpful, as is the DVD. After 6 months, we have had no issues. My wife, who usually hates SUVs, loves the car and won't let me drive it. It's simply amazing. Well done, Ford!
-
I completely understand your skepticism, but I have to say that my 2007 has been incredibly reliable. Despite a minor electrical issue that causes the cabin lights to flicker occasionally, I have not experienced any major problems with my car, even after putting 280k miles on it.

My fiancee insisted on purchasing another Explorer, despite experiencing multiple mechanical issues with her previous one. However, after some persuasion, she decided to go for the Freestyle due to its CVT. Unfortunately, the car turned out to be noisy, sluggish, and cramped. To make matters worse, the CVT failed after only 50,000 miles, and Ford refused to acknowledge it as a defect. Despite this, I remain confident in Ford's products. Thank you for your time.

I enjoyed my 2007 freestyle, but unfortunately, it has a cracked head and cannot be fixed. The motor is no longer in production, and neither are its parts. Despite this setback, I am confident that I will find a suitable solution for my situation. Thank you for your time.

I purchased my 2007 Freestyle five years ago and it has been a reliable vehicle with minimal issues, until recently. Unfortunately, at only 120,000 miles, the front end began making noise. I took it to two different shops to have it looked at. After receiving a second opinion from a seasoned mechanic (for $100), I was informed that there were multiple problems with the front end, including all the motor mounts being shot, the struts being shot, and the wheel bearings being bad. The most concerning issue was the inner bearing on the driver's front, which is known to be difficult and expensive to fix on Freestyles. The mechanic estimated that all the front end work would cost at least $4000, so we have decided to cut our losses.

Love the car. It performs just as well as higher priced vehicles. However, we have had to replace the throttle body three times and are concerned about future occurrences. While the first two replacements were covered under warranty, the most recent one cost us over $700. We were advised to pay for the replacement and that the dealership will attempt to recover the cost from the factory. We are also experiencing issues with the brakes wearing out quickly. It is disappointing, but we may have to consider getting rid of the car. It would be beneficial for Ford to acknowledge the issue and provide a solution.
