The Ford Explorer Sport Trac (also shortened to Ford Sport Trac) is a pickup truck that was manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company for the North American market. The first mid-sized pickup truck produced by Ford, the Sport Trac was marketed from the 2001 to the 2010 model years (skipping the 2006 model year). Sized between the Ranger (whose crew cab variants were sold outside of North America) and the F-150, the Sport Trac largely competed against crew-cab variants of the midsize Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon, Dodge Dakota, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma.
Produced over two generations, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac shared its chassis and much of its body from the Ford Explorer SUV (with the pickup truck bed designed specifically for the model line). All production was sourced from the Louisville Assembly Plant in Louisville, Kentucky (taking the place of the Ford Ranger).
As Ford developed the fifth-generation Ford Explorer as a unibody crossover for the 2011 model year, the Sport Trac was phased out of the model line, with production ending in October 2010. Closely matching the Sport Trac in size, the fourth-generation Ford Ranger serves the same market function in its SuperCrew four-door crew cab configuration.

- Summary: There is a crack down the middle section of the liftgate for quite some time. The liftgate has been unlocking and opening automatically by itself. On only rare occasions has the liftgate opened all the way while driving. On the morning of 7/28/2022 while the vehicle was parked in my driveway the liftgate was discovered to have again unlocked by itself and opened slightly and now with one of the two hinges holding the glass sheared leaving the liftgate glass hanging by only one hinge. With the glass now hanging without having both hinge supports functioning and the inability to close and lock the liftgate, 1) the glass could fall out while driving and 2) with the liftgate unable to now close and lock, contents of the back storage area could fall out of the vehicle while driving. On 8/1/2022 the vehicle was inspected by the foreman of the Service Dept. at Healy Ford, Goshen, N.Y. I was told to take it to a body shop for realignment repair. Apparently a recall on 9/13/2022 # 04V442000 did not include my Vin. However, In driving around I do see many 2003 explorers with the identical crack on the liftgate.

I purchased this rig with 70K miles to travel to a project in Northern Canada during the winter. It comes equipped with most of the available options, including a nice stainless front pushbar/grill. The meaty offroad tires make it perfect for handling in the snow, while still providing a quiet and comfortable ride. Although it has limited hauling capacity, it offers creature comforts similar to those found in $40K crew cabs that are currently being sold. I plan to use it to haul a light trailer with a WW1 biplane replica to airshows with my friends, and it is perfect for this purpose. If you need crew capacity and limited hauling space, this is the perfect vehicle for you. On the highway, I get fuel economy in the upper 20s, but around town, it can be a bit of a pain. Overall, it has been perfect for driving in the snow.

I have owned my Adrenalin addition Sport Trac for 4.5 years and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with its reliability and versatility. Besides routine maintenance, I have only had to replace the battery. I love the fact that I can easily throw firewood in the back and travel with 4 other people without having to own a crew cab truck. Although there have been some minor trim issues, they were more irritating than anything. While the design may be ungainly and the gas mileage is the same as a larger SUV, I am still very happy with my purchase overall.

My spouse and I purchased the low mileage ST after having another child, as an extended cab truck was not spacious enough. Initially, I was hesitant, but I quickly fell in love with it. I replaced the tires with All Terrain ones, which significantly improved its off-road performance. This truck is fantastic both on and off the road, but it's important to remember that it's a truck, not a sports car, so it won't ride as smoothly. We plan to keep it until the engine gives out, and then we'll probably replace it with another one. You won't regret buying it!

If you're in search of a smaller truck that has it all, the Sport Track is the answer! My top favorite features are the back window that rolls down, the amazing sound (despite not being a Bose), and the ability to haul almost anything using the variety of tie downs. I don't have any cons about this truck - it's the best thing I've ever owned!

The 2003 Sport Trac has a unique blend of features. While it has an attractive exterior, the interior may leave you wanting more. Unfortunately, there is limited space to adjust the seat settings or power bolsters, and the door is positioned quite close to the seat, which can be inconvenient. Additionally, the interior could benefit from some aesthetic improvements. Even the premium 6 CD in-dash sound system could use a more visually appealing design.

I recently purchased a used Sport Trac with only 9,000 miles on it and I absolutely love it! It's a very handy auto/truck that drives and rides much better than other models like the Colorado, Tacoma, and Frontier. Plus, it has more room in the back seat and the bed holds enough for homeowners and sports enthusiasts alike. While I do wish it came with a V8 engine, the current power is still adequate. I get around 16 miles per gallon around town and 19 on trips.

My Sport Track has covered 10,000 miles. Unfortunately, it has been in the shop twice. The first time was due to the pioneer 6-cd in-dash player not playing or ejecting CDs. The second time was due to multiple issues, including the driver's side window not raising up, a fuel pump problem, and a broken plastic piece on the cage extender. Additionally, the vehicle has a poor turning radius, a noisy road ride, no lock for the glove compartment, and no option to recycle the air (except when using max AC, which doesn't work when you need heat). Furthermore, there is no light on the vanity mirror, which some passengers may find inconvenient. Lastly, the seats do not fully recline, which may be uncomfortable if you ever need to sleep in it. Despite these issues, the Sport Track is a great concept, but it seems to have been cheaply implemented by Ford.
