2024 Ford Edge problems

ford logo

The Ford Edge is a range of crossover SUVs manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Edge is the first mid-size CUV marketed by Ford in North America; the model line is currently in its second generation. Deriving its name from a trim package of the Ford Ranger, the Ford Edge is positioned between the Ford Escape and the Ford Explorer within the Ford product line.

Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Fusion sedan, Ford has also produced the model line as the Lincoln MKX (since 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus). The second generation is also marketed by Ford of Europe, positioned between the Kuga (Escape) and the Explorer PHEV.

All production of the first two generations of the Ford Edge is sourced from Ford of Canada at Oakville Assembly (Oakville, Ontario) alongside the Nautilus.

The third generation launched in 2023 is called the Edge L, and was first produced and sold exclusively in China.

Common 2024 Ford Edge problems

The 2024 Ford Edge is a midsize SUV that has been a significant part of Ford's lineup since its introduction in 2007. Despite its historical significance, the Edge has faced some challenges, particularly in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment. One of the most significant issues with the 2024 Ford Edge is its price, which is higher than many of its competitors, making it a less attractive option for many buyers.

The 2024 Ford Edge has a starting price of $38,365, which is significantly higher than many of its competitors, such as the Kia Telluride, which starts at around $36,000, and the Chevrolet Traverse, which starts at $34,520. This high price point, coupled with the Edge's lack of unique features or attributes, makes it a difficult sell in this crowded market segment.

Another issue with the 2024 Ford Edge is its reliability. While Consumer Reports expects the Edge to be more reliable than the average new car, based on data from 2021, 2022, and 2023 models, there have been some reported issues with the Edge's technology and safety features.

In addition to these issues, some owners have reported problems with the Edge's backup camera, which is not as good as the 2017 SEL model.

Despite these issues, the 2024 Ford Edge remains a solid vehicle with many positive attributes. It offers plenty of passenger room across its two rows, and its touchscreen interface is easy to use and meets modern expectations for performance, comfort, and usability.

In conclusion, while the 2024 Ford Edge faces some challenges, including a high price point and some reported issues with its technology and safety features, it remains a solid vehicle with many positive attributes. If you're in the market for a midsize SUV, it's worth considering the Edge, but be sure to do your research and weigh the pros and cons carefully.

SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-04
  • VIN: 2FMPK4J95RB
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: I have a 2024 Ford Edge SEL. The issue is the the driver front and passenger front head rests. The head rest is only adjustable up to down, not forward or back. The current position of the head rest with the seat in normal upright driving position forces your head into your chest and you are looking at the floor with no neck support. There is no position to adequately support your head and neck with the current headrest. It is tilted too far forward toward the windshield. Dealer confirmed. Dealer looked it over and said this is how its made. No warnings. Just the position of the headrest appears to be tilted extraordinarily too far forward. High potential for injury in a crash. What I'd like to see is an alternate Headrest to alleviate the angle the current one poses upon the drive rand passenger.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-17
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 2FMPK4J99RB
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Good day. I purchased a 2024 Ford Edge SEL in March 2024. I would like to call your attention to the vehicle's horn. I was unable to alert a truck driver who was backing up that he was going to back inro my car. The horn for the vehicle is extremely weak, in fact too weak to be audible to a driver in front of you who has their car windows closed. It is inaudible in that instance nor is it audible over traffic noise or rain. In my case, the only thing that stopped the truck continuing its reversing was my vehicle - he couldn't continue moving. It resulted in $5,800.00 front-end damage to my vehicle.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-28
  • VIN: 2FMPK4K9XRB
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: Vehicle has hands free liftgate operation by waving feet under bumper. The liftgate will also close if you are loading cargo toward front of compartment and your feet inadvertently trigger sensor. The closing tone is weak and cannot be heard if there is any outside noise. Liftgate has closed on my back at least 4 times and my wife at least 3 times in the 4 weeks we have had the vehicle. If a small child were to be climbing in the back with the hatch open they could be seriously injured or even killed by the closing hatch. Even if an adult happens to have their hand in the hatch opening and the hatch inadvertently closed undetected serious injury could occur. I see no conceivable reason for having the hatch close by waving your feet under the bumper. The electric hatch can be disabled, but there are no provisions to disable only the motion auto open/close feature. I contacted Ford Customer Care and they filed an internal report and suggested I file a complaint with NHTSA.

SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-02
  • VIN: 2FMPK4J92RB
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: The drivers side power seat motor appears to be malfunctioning. When the seat is moved, the motor makes a grinding/vibrating noise. It appears to be a defective motor. Ford dealer inspected the car today, and reported upon checking there were no codes when scanned, so the seat could not be repaired. There is concern for safety, as this is the drivers side seat and if the power motor stops functioning after the seat is moved, the driver will be unable to safely drive the vehicle.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-10

No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was able to duplicate the failure but determined that the vehicle was operating as intended. The contact was informed that the hatch failed to close due to the vehicle being parked on an uneven surface. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 7,000.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-31
  • VIN: 2FMPK4J94RB
  • Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: The driver's side view mirror glass has been distorted/warped since I bought the vehicle new. It jeopardizes my safety every time I drive the vehicle as I feel like I need extra time to focus when looking at my mirror because of the distortion. I have taken my vehicle to 2 different Ford dealerships, 1 said that they didn't see an issue and the other one verbally said that they could see some distortion but it did not justify them to do a replacement but that glass degrades over time and to just ask them to check the mirror next time when I get an oil change so that they can test to see if it's bad enough to justify a replacement. They would not give me that statement in writing. Also, as I write this I have a friend whose from out of State visiting me and they rented a car (same exact car, a 2024 Ford Edge) and I looked at the driver's side mirror on that one and the glass was perfect... So I now know for a fact my vehicle has defective glass and Ford doesn't want to do anything about it, instead my family and my safety is jeopardized each and every time I drive the vehicle due to a blurry driver's side mirror. I wish I could get a good picture of it but the distortion doesn't show up on my camera, but it is indeed there. It's hard to explain but when I look at it, it's as if I'm wearing out of focus glasses and as I mentioned earlier, I don't feel that's safe.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-09
  • Number Of Injuries: 2
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 2FMPK4J97RC
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: The contact was driving a 2024 Ford Edge rental vehicle. The contact stated that while traveling in stop-and-go traffic the rental vehicle was involved in a multi-vehicle crash. The rental vehicle was crashed into from the rear and pushed into a second vehicle. A third vehicle was then pushed into the rental vehicle causing the rental vehicle to be pushed into a guard rail and roll down a hill. During the crash, the front driver's side air bag did not deploy. The contact sustained left leg, lumbar, neck, and abdomen injuries that later required medical treatment. One additional injury was reported from a second vehicle included in the crash. No further information was available. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed to the local towing yard. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 3,000.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-10-18
  • VIN: 2FMPK4K93RB
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The car was loaded with mold throughout. We had to trade it in because it could not be repaired. Now I see the car is on a used car lot at same dealer in Elyria Ohio. This is wrong as the mold made me deathly sick. We had to get rid of lit and took a large loss as to not have the vehicle anymore. This is serious. The mold was all over the car and in the vent system. There was still standing water in the spare compartment and floors and glove box. I put a petri dish in the back seat for an hour which I uploaded.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-13
  • VIN: 2FMPK4K94RB
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: 1. This issue is with the image produced by the backup camera as its image is dim and not very clear, especially at night. At daytime the image is also dim. I had 3 previous models of the same Ford Edge Titanium 2013, 2016 & 2019 all had a similar backup camera albeit with the image on a smaller screen and never had an issue with the brightness/ clarity of the image. The issue I'm reporting is on a brand new 2024 Ford Edge Titanium with a much larger and screen, the car has 850 miles on it as of today, the issue was apparent from day one after I took delivery but took it in to investigate the issue on 9/13/2023 - 2. It is becomes very obvious that something is wrong every time I back up from my driveway at night, the same poorly lit image appears. This a serious issue. - 3. I took it into the dealership where I bought it from. They could see my complaint and even compared it to a 2023 model, the images were the same, dim. The service department reported to me today that they discussed my issue with Ford who had no fix for it nor did they hear of such a complain before and suggested that the brightness on the screen be adjusted which the dealer technician did but did not produce any change to the image. - 4. No warning lights or signs of malfunction appeared on the screen before or after.

Negative 2024 Ford Edge car reviews

  1. Cristina Dooley 2024-11-17

As a loyal customer who has owned three Ford Edges, I was disappointed with the 2022 model. I found the tablet component to be difficult to use and distracting, as it required taking my eyes off the road to access most controls. Additionally, the 2 litre turbo engine was quite loud, which was not ideal. While the car handled decently, it did not meet the high quality standards of my previous Edges. I also experienced issues with the tablet screen freezing up, which required a complete shut off and restart of the car to reset. Ultimately, I decided to part ways with the vehicle and will not be considering any future Ford products for my household.

  2. Vincent Bartoletti 2024-10-23

Even if Ford offered me 35k to keep this car, I would still decline. The transmission is incredibly slow, to the point where I would be asleep before the car even reacts. The drive dashboard is outdated and the lane keeping assistant can come across as a bit rude with its military-like tone. Additionally, the keyless entry only works sometimes. Overall, I wouldn't feel safe using this car on the highway.

  3. Jayden Schuppe 2024-10-13

I recently drove over 1000 miles on an open highway with no traffic, where the speed limit ranged from 55-70 mph. According to the dashboard, my car's MPG was between 17 in the city and 21 on a full tank. On a full tank, the dash initially read 402 miles until empty, but it adjusted and I was only able to go 385 miles on a full tank. I used both regular and premium fuel from Shell, but I found it frustrating that gas prices are so high that I had to use premium or plus to get good mileage. It seems unfair that some cars require premium fuel to run efficiently.

  4. Mikel Lowe 2024-07-21

I rented a 2023 model for a week and unfortunately experienced some issues. The lower door edge is angled at 90 degrees and can cause serious injury to your leg. Additionally, the instrument panel indicators for cruise control, open doors, etc. are very small and located in the left lower corner, which makes them difficult to see. The rear and rear sides have very poor visibility, and the hood is huge, tall, and raised on the sides, which obstructs visibility of the immediate surroundings like boulders. Lastly, the gas pedal is hard and acceleration has a noticeable lag. Overall, I would not recommend purchasing this model.

  5. Russ Hammes 2024-07-10

The driver seat bolster is uncomfortably close and high, making for a disappointing and uncomfortable ride. Unfortunately, I will have to sell my Edge ST due to this issue. The seats are useless and I regret not paying closer attention to this before purchasing. I have not experienced this problem with my 2013 Lincoln MKX, and I am disappointed that the 2023 Ford Edge ST has such poor seat design.

Positive 2024 Ford Edge car reviews

  1. Jillian Herman 2024-11-05

I recently traded in my Ford Explorer for the Ford Edge. Although the Edge has some great features, I must admit that the Explorer had even better ones. However, the price of the Edge was quite close to that of the Explorer. I noticed that Ford now offers a range of features such as the 'Ford Co-Pilot' and 'Ford Co-Pilot Assist'. It's worth noting that if you opt for the 'Ford Co-Pilot', you won't get Navigation or Automatic Cruise Control. The seats are made of 'faux' leather, which is not as luxurious as real leather. Both the Explorer and the Edge are Ford ST Line, and the price difference between the two is minimal. I must say that I'm not a fan of the 12-inch screen in the Edge, which requires you to use the touch screen to control almost every feature, including the temperature, air conditioning, heated seats, and radio. I preferred the smaller screen with actual knobs to control the temperature. Unfortunately, my Edge does not have power folding mirrors, which I really liked in my Explorer when parking in the garage. Additionally, my Edge does not have a front camera for parking in tight spots. It also lacks separate memory seat controls for each driver. It seems that Ford is charging more but giving you less. Despite all this, I do appreciate some of the Edge's features. The back carrying capacity is pretty good, especially when I fold down the rear seats. The Edge is easy to drive, but not as fun as the Explorer. Both vehicles have the same 2.0-liter turbo engine, but the Explorer seemed to have more power, especially when passing another vehicle. However, the Edge is much easier to park, as the Explorer was wider and longer in the front. Would I buy another Edge? No, I would consider other makes and models such as the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, or Hyundai Santa Fe or Palisade. I'm particularly interested in a hybrid, which unfortunately wasn't offered with the Edge. So, overall, while the Edge has some great features, it's not my preferred choice for future models. I've heard that 2024 will be the last year Ford is offering the Edge, which is okay with me.

  2. Tristin Langosh 2024-10-18

I'm so glad to hear that you love your 3rd Edge!

  3. Wilbert Lebsack 2024-09-28

Your Ford Edge runs very quietly and smoothly, with no noticeable noise at all. It's also very roomy, with plenty of leg room. I'm so glad to hear that you love your car!

  4. Claude Huels 2024-09-07

This is the third Edge I have owned. It's a shame that they have cancelled the Edge because this is the best one yet. The 23 ST is powerful, fun to drive, and loaded with options. Its aggressive looks and stance make it look more expensive than it is. The fit and finish are excellent, as well as the ride and comfort. Ford really knocked it out of the park with the great sounding B&O sound system.

  5. Oliver Wilderman 2024-09-02
