The Ford Edge is a range of crossover SUVs manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Edge is the first mid-size CUV marketed by Ford in North America; the model line is currently in its second generation. Deriving its name from a trim package of the Ford Ranger, the Ford Edge is positioned between the Ford Escape and the Ford Explorer within the Ford product line.

Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Fusion sedan, Ford has also produced the model line as the Lincoln MKX (since 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus). The second generation is also marketed by Ford of Europe, positioned between the Kuga (Escape) and the Explorer PHEV.

All production of the first two generations of the Ford Edge is sourced from Ford of Canada at Oakville Assembly (Oakville, Ontario) alongside the Nautilus.

The third generation launched in 2023 is called the Edge L, and was first produced and sold exclusively in China.

Common 2011 Ford Edge problems

The 2011 Ford Edge has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to electrical issues, check engine lights, and brake failures.

Electrical issues are widespread, with many owners reporting problems with the door ajar sensor. This issue causes the light and chimes to stay on constantly when the sensor fails, which can be inconvenient and costly to repair. Replacing the part costs around $400.

Check engine lights are another common issue, with many owners reporting a loss of power followed by the light. The most frequent problem is a failed throttle body, which can cost nearly $470 to replace.

Brake failures are also a significant concern for the 2011 Ford Edge. The brake booster is a known weak spot, and when it fails, it can make stopping very difficult. Replacing the booster costs around $1,000.

In addition to these issues, the 2011 Ford Edge has also had three recalls, including a serious one for the body control module, which can cause a fire if the system has a short.

These problems have led to poor reliability ratings for the 2011 Ford Edge, with Consumer Reports giving it poor driving dynamics and below-average owner satisfaction scores.

Despite these issues, the 2011 Ford Edge has received positive reviews for its quiet cabin, safe design, and good performance from the two V6 engine options.

In summary, the 2011 Ford Edge has several common problems related to electrical issues, check engine lights, and brake failures. These issues have led to poor reliability ratings and below-average owner satisfaction scores. However, the SUV has received positive reviews for its quiet cabin, safe design, and good performance.

Negative 2011 Ford Edge car reviews

  1. Elton Daniel 2024-11-25

We recently switched from a Lexus 350 to the Edge and were drawn to its sleek appearance and advanced technology, which convinced us to lease it for 3 years. While it drives like a larger car, we did notice some sluggishness due to the AWD weight, so unless you need it for snow, we recommend skipping AWD or opting for the sport model with the larger engine. Unfortunately, we did experience some issues during our first week, such as the rain sensing wiper sensor falling off, which required us to replace the entire windshield instead of just gluing it back on. Additionally, we have encountered some bugs with the Sync system, such as the rear view camera screen occasionally going black and freezing while connecting to Bluetooth. We also found that it does not connect well to a Blackberry, as the dealer informed us that it was designed for an iPhone. Overall, we are enjoying our experience with the Edge and hope that these issues can be resolved.

  2. Gerhard Bailey 2024-11-04

The car started experiencing problems within a week of purchase, specifically veering to the right. Despite having the alignment done twice, the issue persisted. Additionally, there were problems with the Sync System. After multiple attempts to fix the issue, including a sub frame repair, the problem still persisted. As a result, I made the decision to hire an attorney.

  3. Kristopher Emard 2024-10-24

The car has a great appearance and impressive power. However, within just three weeks of ownership, it has been in the shop five times due to issues with the driver's door not shutting properly. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the striker plate for the door was drilled in the wrong place and a new door seal is needed. The overall build quality appears to be subpar. In terms of fuel efficiency, it gets 24 MPG at 70 mph and 22 MPG at 58 mph.

  4. Gregg O'Kon 2024-06-11

I noticed that you mentioned some issues with the SYNC system in the new 2011 Ford Edge. It sounds like you've had a frustrating experience with it, especially with the voice recognition feature. I can understand how that would be a major concern. Additionally, the Navigation system seems to have some flaws, such as giving instructions to make a U-turn on a freeway and insufficient warning before turn-offs. Lastly, the Hazard Flasher button seems to be poorly positioned and overly sensitive, which can be a hazard. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention.

  5. Lester Durgan 2024-03-14

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car that I purchased used 14 months ago from a local dealer. It had 67,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. Unfortunately, 8 months in, I had to replace the driver's side front arm assembly. Recently, while returning from a trip, the car blew the head gasket causing coolant to leak into the oil. This resulted in a new engine being needed. The car only has 78,913 miles on it. Thankfully, we had purchased a warranty on it, but it was still inconvenient to have to rent a vehicle to get home and travel 3 hours away to pick up my car when it's done. I have owned several Ford vehicles in the past, but this has been the worst experience I have had. I think it's time for me to switch back to a Toyota. Thank you for listening to my story!

We went from a 2007 to 2009 Mariner to save on gas, but unfortunately, it lacked power. After considering Subaru, VW, BMW, and Mazda CX7, we found a great deal on the Ford Edge, which we absolutely love. We were hoping to have Sync, which worked great on our Mercury, but we didn't want MyTouch. However, we ended up getting an SE and didn't get either. Overall, we're still very happy with our purchase!

I've been driving the Edge Limited for a few weeks now and I'm happy to report that I'm averaging almost 20 mpg, even with mostly city driving. Although I initially wanted the Ecoboost, it wasn't available yet. However, I'm still very satisfied with my purchase. The interior is incredibly comfortable and I absolutely love the huge sunroof. The keyless entry and pushbutton start are also great features. The only downside is that the touchscreen could be more responsive and better designed. Unfortunately, the lag in response makes typing addresses in navigation a bit of a chore, especially since it didn't have my POI in the database. Additionally, the voice commands take some getting used to. Some adjustments require navigating too many screens, which wouldn't be so bad if the touchscreen were more responsive. Overall, I'm confident that once Ford works out the bugs, the Edge will be almost perfect.

After 11 years with BMW and Mercedes, I was thrilled to discover an American-made product that excels in both design and features. It boasts high quality, good performance, a solid feel, great ergonomics, and a lower cost of ownership. It's easy to jump in and drive, but if you want to learn all the settings, options, and features, it may take some commitment. Personally, I was able to learn most everything in just one week. Overall, it's an excellent value for the money.

I've purchased Toyotas in the past 15 years and decided to try the Ford Edge. I am very happy with my purchase thus far. The vehicle provides many amenities that you can't get in a Toyota. Build quality seems great. I encourage you to test drive one. If you opt to purchase one, I recommend not purchasing the cargo cover as it is poorly designed.

We really love our Edge! We tested every other vehicle in its class and it was by far the best. We've already driven almost 60k miles on ours with no problems at all. We're so excited for the new 2015 Edge to come out - we're definitely going to buy another one!
