The Ford Edge is a range of crossover SUVs manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Edge is the first mid-size CUV marketed by Ford in North America; the model line is currently in its second generation. Deriving its name from a trim package of the Ford Ranger, the Ford Edge is positioned between the Ford Escape and the Ford Explorer within the Ford product line.

Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Fusion sedan, Ford has also produced the model line as the Lincoln MKX (since 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus). The second generation is also marketed by Ford of Europe, positioned between the Kuga (Escape) and the Explorer PHEV.

All production of the first two generations of the Ford Edge is sourced from Ford of Canada at Oakville Assembly (Oakville, Ontario) alongside the Nautilus.

The third generation launched in 2023 is called the Edge L, and was first produced and sold exclusively in China.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-06
  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: 2FMDK36C78B
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Purchased a duralast battery from AutoZone store #1299 in Hialeah in August 3rd and installed it. The staff was insistent that this battery was a direct replacement part for my lead acid battery. The car drove normally for approximately a month, and on the morning of September 6th started normally with no warning lights. After being driven less than a quarter mile, in slow-moving traffic, the car suddenly lost all power and large amounts of smoke came from under the hood accompanied by a burning smell. This happened in an intersection during 830 AM traffic on a weekday and I was unable to immediately exit the vehicle. This could have been a fatal incident for myself or potentially others. It was towed to a mechanic who started disassembling it to determine the damages. As per the mechanic, there is evidence of an electrical fire - the cables connected to the battery have melted and the alternator (which was TESTED AND INSTALLED BRAND NEW LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO) are damaged. The mechanics have also stated that the fans and cooling system have been affected, but not to what extent as they are still mid-teardown. When they attempted to put a load on the battery, it began to overheat dangerously, and they state that it is the likely culprit of the fire. I attempted to return the battery to the store I had purchased it at, where the staff were verbally abusive and insisting that it was impossible for a battery to cause an electrical fire and they'd never heard of such a thing, and that perhaps my mechanic was the one who had messed up my car. They refused to aceept a return, and kept telling me the battery was good. They provided me with a area manager phone number who is avoiding all communication. Meanwhile, I am without my vehicle, which requires EXTENSIVE ELECTRICAL REPAIRS and may be a total loss. If they are selling defective batteries to clients, they are putting the public at risk, doubly so by refusing to take any sort of accountability for their product.

Additionally, unless included in "Zone A" above, Ford is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Ford Ranger, Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2006-2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles and 2005-2008 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Any vehicle not included in "Zone A", or "Zone B" is not included in the safety recall. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
  • Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. Ford mailed interim letters informing owners that parts are not yet available on July 15, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S01.

  • Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Interim notices were mailed to owners on December 12, 2014. The recall began on October 6, 2015. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and either clean and treat the fuel tank with a corrosion preventative or replace the tank, free of charge. Negative 2008 Ford Edge car reviews

I recently tried out a Ford for the first time and unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. While I initially thought it was a good car, I encountered some issues with the build quality and interior materials. Additionally, the air conditioning was not effective during the hot Texas summer. Despite these challenges, I ultimately decided to switch to a VW which I am really enjoying now.

Hey there! I just hit 50,000 miles and unfortunately, I've had a few issues with my Edge. I had to get my squeaky windows repaired for $200, and now I need to replace the accelerator wiring for $325. Unfortunately, none of these repairs are covered by warranty. I'm feeling a bit discouraged and it's making me reconsider buying another Edge. I hope Ford can improve their quality control in the future.

Hi there! I wanted to share a frustrating experience I had with my car. Last Sunday (2/03/08), I found my car dead and immediately called Ford for roadside assistance. They arrived a little over an hour later, but unfortunately couldn't get my car out of park. The tow driver told me there was nothing they could do for me and left. Feeling stranded and helpless, I called roadside assistance again, but was informed that because it was Sunday, there was nothing they could do for me and that I should call the dealer on Monday. I was left with no way to get home, as the anti-theft system had shut the car down. It was definitely not the experience I was hoping for, but I'm hopeful that the dealer will be able to help me out tomorrow. Thanks for listening!

I bought my 2008 Ford Edge in October 2010, which was about 10 months ago. I'm thrilled with it so far! There was only one issue that I had, but it was covered under my auto Tran. This vehicle drives very smoothly, like a car, and is incredibly comfortable. The leather interior and the beautiful exterior (powder blue) give this vehicle a very luxurious look. People can't believe it when I tell them that the vehicle was just under $20,000. Overall, I would highly recommend the Edge as it's like a luxury vehicle without the price tag!

The body style of the Ford Edge caught my eye immediately and was the first thing that drew me in. The overall shape is very pleasing and the height was also a factor for me, as I have trouble getting in and out of vehicles that are too low. The interior is perfect for my needs, with everything close at hand and easy to read. The seats are incredibly comfortable, with plenty of head and foot room. The storage and cargo space is also great. The music system, which includes a 6 CD changer, AM/FM radio, and MP3 option, is very adequate and easy to use. I have yet to look for an option and find that it's missing. The drive-ability is fabulous, with a very smooth ride and easy maneuverability. The AWD was a life saver this winter too!

I owned a 97 Ford Explorer for 8 years and put 250,000 miles on it. After 6 months of research, I finally found the perfect SUV that met all my requirements - the 08 Ford Edge. It's highly reliable, comfortable, and has great gas mileage. I've already driven it for 4,400 miles and I'm averaging 19.9 miles/gallon overall. I would definitely recommend the Edge to anyone looking for a new SUV. Congrats to Ford!

After owning and driving three new Explorers (which I really like), I made the mistake of trading in my last Explorer for a new Escape. Unfortunately, I found the Escape to be too small and with a cheaply made interior. After owning it for two years, I decided to trade it in for an EDGE SEL AWD, and I am very happy with it. It gets about the same gas mileage as the Escape, but it rides so much nicer.

I've owned many new cars, mostly foreign over the years. However, I was a bit hesitant to commit to an American car due to their track record. But when I checked out the Ford Edge, I was pleasantly surprised. It was exactly what I was looking for in a new CUV for my wife. After comparing it to all the competition, including our 2007 Santa Fe, I have to say that Ford has done an amazing job. The car has an excellent feature set, great design, and fantastic build quality. In my opinion, it truly has an 'edge' over the competition. I'm proud to support the American economy now that Ford has a solid product. Additionally, the fuel economy is on par with all other CUV's.
