The Dodge Challenger is the name of three different generations of automobiles produced by American automobile manufacturer Dodge. However, the first use of the Challenger name by Dodge was in 1959 for marketing a "value version" of the full-sized Coronet Silver Challenger.

From model years 1970 to 1974, the first generation Dodge Challenger pony car was built using the Chrysler E platform in hardtop and convertible body styles sharing major components with the Plymouth Barracuda.

The second generation, from model years 1978 to 1983, was a badge engineered Mitsubishi Galant Lambda / Sapporo, a coupe version of an economical compact car.

The third and current generation is a full-size muscle car that was introduced in early 2008 originally as a rival to the evolved fifth generation Ford Mustang and the fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro.

In November 2021, Stellantis announced that 2023 model year would be the final model year for both the LD Dodge Charger and LA Dodge Challenger, as the company will focus its future plans on electric vehicles rather than fossil fuel powered vehicles, due to tougher emissions standards required by the Environmental Protection Agency for the 2023 model year. Challenger production ended on December 22, 2023, and the Brampton, Ontario assembly plant will be re-tooled to assemble an electrified successor.

Common 2022 Dodge Challenger problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Dodge Challenger 2022, several common problems have been reported:

  • Transmission Shift Quality Issues: Owners have reported transmission shifting problems with the Dodge Challenger 2022. Some have experienced harsh shifting, strange metallic noises, thumping sounds when shifting gears, and even instances where the transmission fails to engage. This issue may also trigger the check engine light, although normal diagnostics at the dealership may not detect any problems. Dodge has released updated transmission control module (TCM) software to address this issue.
  • Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) Problem: The TIPM controls various electrical operations in Dodge vehicles, including windshield wipers and the fuel pump. Some Dodge Challenger owners have reported issues with the TIPM, leading to complications such as unexpected airbag deployment, starter crank failure, random horn activation, and malfunctioning power windows. Small recalls have been issued to address these problems, and it is recommended to consult a professional for diagnosis and repair if a faulty TIPM is suspected.

These problems highlight some of the key issues faced by owners of the Dodge Challenger 2022, ranging from electrical malfunctions to transmission and control module issues. Addressing these concerns promptly and seeking professional assistance for diagnosis and repair can help ensure the optimal performance and safety of the vehicle.

2022-10-27
  • Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)
  • Components: TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS
  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2022 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300 vehicles. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor battery may fail prematurely and cause the sensor to become inoperative. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."
  • Consequence: Inoperative TPMS sensors will not alert the driver to low tire pressure. In addition, a TPMS warning light that is already illuminated from a failed battery sensor will mask an actual tire pressure failure issue. Either of these scenarios can result in tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the TPMS sensors, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 10, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is ZB5. This recall is an expansion of previous recall number 22V-504.

Negative 2022 Dodge Challenger car reviews

  1. Otho Waelchi 2025-01-29

There is a loud knocking noise and vibration when starting the car, which has been present since day 1 with only 5 miles on the car. I am taking it to the dealer for repair. It is clear that there is a problem with the car, which should not be the case for a new vehicle.

  2. Ezra Boyer 2025-01-23

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2021 Challenger, which I've had for about two months now. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing some intermittent transmission issues since I got it. Every now and then, the vehicle will feel like there is a bad U joint or too much backlash in the rear end. I've already contacted Dodge about this and they've scheduled me for some warranty work. However, due to the random factor, I'm not feeling too hopeful that they will be able to repair the problem.

  3. Jasmin Greenholt 2024-08-24

Amazing car! It drives fantastic, what's not to love? However, I was disappointed to discover how easy it is to steal. I don't understand why, with today's technology, they are still so vulnerable. I recently purchased a 2021 Challenger Scat Pack and had it for only 3 months before it was stolen in minutes by smashing the window. Overall, I still love the car, but I hope that manufacturers can improve their security measures in the future.

  4. Destin Hettinger 2024-03-22

What a stunning and speedy car! When you step on the throttle, you'll feel the power pushing you back into your seat. The ride is incredibly smooth on the highway and the handling is surprisingly agile for a car of this size and weight. Although I purchased it brand new, I did notice some issues with the fit and finish. The gaps around the car were uneven and the transmission (8 speed automatic) was questionable. The shifts were really hard, especially from 1st to 2nd, which myself and my passengers noticed. Additionally, I noticed that the Challenger needed an alignment after only 2000 miles of driving on normal roads. Unfortunately, these issues, combined with the poor gas mileage and the fact that my second home was located far from the nearest gas station, led me to sell the Challenger after only 3 months of ownership. It's a shame because I really like Dodge vehicles, but I couldn't justify owning a car with these problems. Perhaps I'll consider another one in the future.

Positive 2022 Dodge Challenger car reviews

  1. Noah Raynor 2025-02-19

There are a few things that I don't like about the car. Firstly, the radio screen is too small and there is no navigation. Secondly, there are no park sensors in the front facia, which made parking in the garage easier in my previous vehicles. Lastly, Apple CarPlay isn't wireless. However, apart from these minor issues, we love the car!

  2. Ramon Wolf 2025-01-16

Hugs corners and is very quick. It can break loose easily, but the sound is amazing. The mid delete on mine sounds demonic. I grin every minute I’m driving this true, timeless, beautiful vehicle. The 6-speed manual is very fun to drive and keeps pulling to about 150, then creeps.

  3. Boyd O'Connell 2025-01-11

This car never disappoints! It has all the thrills, whether I want to relax and go for a leisurely drive or have some fun. The interior level of quality is also top-notch. I changed the exhaust for a Borla Atak, which gives such a beautiful sound without compromising on cabin drone. One of the best things about this car is how highly upgradable it is. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Cheers!

  4. Aiden Treutel 2025-01-10

Hey there! I recently switched from driving a Raptor to a muscle car and decided to give the Challenger a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the Widebody Scat Pack, which exceeded my expectations in terms of build quality, performance, and rear seat room. The Shaker hood package took me back to the good old days of the Cobra Jet. The interior design is modern yet simple, and the U connect system is as good as any I've seen. The retro look of the Challenger is well done, and I couldn't be more impressed with the refinement over the years. If you're looking for muscle with a touch of practicality, I would definitely recommend it. One year later, and I'm still loving it! I haven't had any issues with the Challenger, and every time I get behind the wheel, I can't help but enjoy the tremendous amount of torque and off-the-chain acceleration. I'm so glad I purchased one while they were still available in the gas-powered version. Good job, Dodge!
