The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a compact car that was built by the American company Chrysler from 2001 until 2010. Introduced as a five-door hatchback wagon, a two-door convertible variant was also made from 2005 until 2008.

Originally planned as a Plymouth model, the PT Cruiser was ultimately marketed as a Chrysler when Plymouth was discontinued. Intended to invoke 1930s aesthetics, the exterior of the PT Cruiser was designed by Bryan Nesbitt. The model received an intermediate facelift for the 2006 model year. Interior packaging was noted for its high roof, high h-point seating, and flexible cargo and passenger configurations enabled by a multi-level rear cargo shelf and rear seats a user could fold, tumble, or remove.

The PT Cruiser was produced in Mexico and Austria at the Toluca Car Assembly and Eurostar Automobilwerk factories. By the end of production in July 2010, worldwide production had reached 1.35 million.

I FOUND THAT I COULD DUPLICATE THE SYMPTOMS BY QUICKLY TURNING THE KEY TO "OFF" THEN BACK TO "RUN", AND BY DOING THIS QUICKLY MANY TIMES, THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT RE-OCCUR FOR A FEW WEEKS. SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER DID NOTHING EXCEPT COST ME MONEY. I HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE START SWITCH LOCATED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE STEERING COLUMN. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE MAIL CENTER, I FOUND THE MISSING CAP WHICH IS A SOFT RUBBER WHICH OBVIOUSLY IS INADEQUATE FOR THE PURPOSE. THE MECHANIC SAID HE DIDN'T SEE WHY CHRYSLER USES A 3 WAY WHEN A 2 WAY CHECK VALVE IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED. IT WAS SOMEWHAT SUNNY, AND THERE WAS VERY LITTLE FROZEN PRECIPITATION FLOATING THROUGH THE AIR. WE HAD JUST LEFT HOME AND DROVE TWO MILES THROUGH STOPS AND STARTS THROUGH LOCAL RESIDENTIAL ROADS. AFTER TURNING LEFT AT A STOP SIGN AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 1.5 MILES, THE ROAD WENT INTO A STRAIGHTAWAY. I GENTLY ACCELERATED, AS I USUALLY DO. THE SPEED CONTROL WAS NOT TURNED ON. MY WIFE AND I SHORTLY NOTICED THAT AFTER THE USUAL 30-35 MPH SPEED, THAT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I CHECKED THE SPEED CONTROL-OFF. CHECKED THE GAS PEDAL-SWINGING FREE. LIFTED THE PEDAL WITH MY SHOE EDGE-NO CHANGE. TAPPED THE BRAKE A FEW TIMES-BRAKE OPERATED, BUT NO CHANGE. AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, I STOMPED ON THE BRAKE WITH BOTH FEET UNTIL I REACHED ABOUT 10 MPH. AT THAT POINT I SLIPPED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND SWITCHED OFF THE ENGINE. THE CAR STOPPED. I GOT OUT AND CHECKED THE GAS PEDAL AND FLOOR MAT-BOTH WERE CLEAR. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, IT STARTED, AND THEN SLOWED, THEN SPUTTERED AND FINALLY QUIT. AFTER QUITTING IT WOULD NOT RESTART. I CALLED CHRYSLER WARRANTY SERVICE FOR A TOW. THE TOWING SERVICE WAS DELAYED. WE WAITED ABOUT AN HOUR AND 15 MINUTES, CHECKED THE ETA OF THE TOW TRUCK WHEN TOLD IT MIGHT BE A COUPLE OF MORE HOURS, I RETRIED THE IGNITION, AND THAT TIME THE ENGINE RESTARTED AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I DROVE ABOUT A MILE TO A NEARBY GAS STATION (TO WAIT FOR THE TOW IN A SAFE PLACE) WITH NO INCIDENT. THE DEALER COULD FIND NO PROBLEM WHEN INSPECTING THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. THEY DROVE 19 MILES, NO PROBLEM. NO FAULT CODES OR TSB'S. CABLE NOT FRAYED. THROTTLE BLADE AND GAS PEDAL NOT BINDING. I SUGGEST THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT ICING COULD HAVE OCCURRED AROUND THE THROTTLE PLATE, SINCE THE AIR WAS NEAR THE DEW POINT ON A HARDLY WARM ENGINE.   • Summary: TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT HAD TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ONCE STOPPED, THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 13,000.

    I misunderstood the information about the PT Cruiser being a mid-sized car for 2010 and misjudged the vehicles it was compared to. I purchased a 2010 model with a $2000 discount, accepting the only available color, black. However, I realized that it is actually a compact car, not a mid-sized one. I have filled the gas tank twice and have only driven 300 miles, despite the fact that it has a 15-gallon tank. I was expecting it to get 26 mpg, as I was told and read. However, my previous car, a 1996 Buick Regal with a V6 3800 motor and 200,300 miles on it, got 26 miles to a gallon, if not more. I am disappointed with my purchase and would like to have my old car back.

    I had a brand new 2002 PT Cruiser which I absolutely loved. I had it for 7 years and only experienced two minor issues which were resolved quickly. However, I recently purchased a new 2008 turbo and unfortunately it has been to the dealership about 12 times. Despite their efforts, they have been unable to identify any issues and have deemed everything to be normal. The gas mileage is poor, the tire light is on, there are rattling noises and squeaks, and the power seat handle has even broken off. Needless to say, I am quite upset with my current PT Cruiser and would love to have my 2002 model back. I am left wondering what could be causing these issues and why the dealership has been unable to resolve them.

    I really enjoyed driving my used 2001 Limited Edition PT Cruiser, but by 2007, I started experiencing some issues with it. So, I decided it was time to upgrade to a new one. Despite my previous problems, I thought buying a brand new Cruiser would solve everything, so I purchased one on January 1, 2008. Unfortunately, it hasn't been a joyride at all. Since day one, I've had nothing but problems. It's been in for balancing over three times, the tires have been indexed multiple times, and now it squeaks whenever I go over a bump. It's quite frustrating! Body creaks shouldn't be happening on a car that's less than a year old! I'm quite disappointed with my car and will probably not buy a Chrysler again.

    Looks good from the outside! However, by 2008, it may be considered a bit dated. The dashboard is sleek, but it is made of a very cheap plastic. Unfortunately, the seats are not comfortable for long drives, as they are not contoured to the body at all. Despite being a wagon, there is not much storage capacity. The power is also a bit pitiful in town and for the highway.

    Hey there! I have the dream cruiser. It's a bit unusual, but I've gotten used to rolling up my front and rear windows on the dashboard. When I need some power, I speed around other cars and leave them in the dust. It's so much fun to drive, especially around curves. The mileage isn't the best, but that's to be expected from a car with a turbo. It gives me great performance though! If you're looking for something with better mileage, you might want to consider other options.

    I love it! You made a great choice with the metallic black finish, it looks beautiful. The interior is also unique and stylish, which adds to the overall appeal. The pick up is good and it's full of pep, making it a fun car to drive. Not only that, but it's also very easy to park! The handy lift gate and fold away seats are a great feature, especially if you have a furry friend like your Rottweiler. Despite being smaller than an SUV, it's surprisingly roomy and definitely an eye-catcher. I understand that it may use a little more gas than some other cars, but it's still far better than the SUV you just got rid of and it's way more fun to drive. It sounds like it's the perfect car for you :)

    This vehicle, while not offering endless amenities or perfect fuel mileage, still stands out in the endless congested highways crowded with boring subcompact cars that blend together in a monotonous never-ending parade of mediocrity. Despite its focus on style over performance, this car still 'pops' and there will never be any mistake of what kind of car is sitting next to you at the red light. The ride quality seems to be decent, with very little harshness from wind noise or uneven road surfaces. The interior always evokes positive responses from any passengers that have been in my car, with its symmetrical (obviously retro) quality and dash that is more style and gloss than most other cars.
