One of Chrysler's three original Chrysler LH platform models, it has a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.

The Concorde was related to the Chrysler/Dodge Intrepid, Eagle Vision, Chrysler 300M, Chrysler LHS, and the eleventh and final generation Chrysler New Yorker.

It was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1993 and 1994.

Common 2002 Chrysler Concorde problems

The Chrysler Concorde, a full-size sedan produced from 1993 to 2004, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues:

  • Transmission Issues: Transmission problems have been reported for the 1993-1997 Chrysler Concorde. These issues can range from transmission slipping to complete transmission failure, often requiring expensive repairs or replacement.
  • Engine Oil Sludge: The 2.7L DaimlerChrysler engine in the Chrysler Concorde is highly susceptible to oil sludge, a sticky substance that coats the inside of the engine and retains heat. This can lead to severe strain on the mechanical parts of the engine and potential engine failure.
  • Intake Manifold Gasket Failure: The 1998-2001 Chrysler Concorde has been known to experience intake manifold gasket failure, which can cause the engine to run poorly or not at all.
  • Engine Misfires: Engine misfires have been reported for the 1998-2001 Chrysler Concorde, often caused by faulty spark plugs or ignition coils.
  • Suspension Problems: Suspension problems have been reported for the 1998-2001 Chrysler Concorde, often requiring expensive repairs or replacement.
  • Seat Issues: Seat problems have been reported for the Chrysler Concorde, often caused by faulty seat adjustment mechanisms or seat cushions that wear out prematurely.
  • Fuel System Issues: Fuel system issues have been reported for the Chrysler Concorde, often caused by faulty fuel pumps or fuel injectors.
  • Lighting Issues: Lighting issues have been reported for the Chrysler Concorde, often caused by faulty headlights or taillights.
  • Electrical Issues: Electrical issues have been reported for the Chrysler Concorde, often caused by faulty wiring or electrical components.
  • Latches and Locks Issues: Latches and locks issues have been reported for the Chrysler Concorde, often caused by faulty door latches or locks.
  • Brakes Issues: Brakes issues have been reported for the Chrysler Concorde, often caused by faulty brake pads or rotors.
  • Air Bags Issues: Air bags issues have been reported for the Chrysler Concorde, often caused by faulty air bag sensors or deployment mechanisms.

It is important to note that not all Chrysler Concordes will experience these problems, and that regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent or mitigate these issues. Additionally, some of these problems may have been addressed through recalls or technical service bulletins issued by Chrysler.

SUSPENSION,FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-09-22
  • VIN: 2C3HD36M02H
  • Components: SUSPENSION,FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: AFTER BACKING OUR CAR OUT OF THE CARPORT, WE NOTICED A LONG THIN PIECE OF CORRODED METAL LAYING ON THE GROUND. I GOT UNDER THE CAR AND FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK RETAINING STRAPS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED, THE ONE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR HAD HOLES COMPLETELY CORRODED THROUGH. THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS HAVE HEAVY SURFACE CORROSION AS WELL. I FEEL THAT IF THE AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURES CONTINUE TO USE METAL FUEL TANK RETAINING STRAPS THEY SHOULD ENCASE THEM IN A NON CORROSIVE MATERIAL. THIS WOULD REDUCE THE EFFECTS OF CORROSION AND CHAFING OF THE FUEL TANK, THIS IS A HIGH VIBRATION AREA. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER VIA E-MAIL, THEIR RESPONSE WAS,( UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE SITUATIONS YOU HAVE OUTLINED IN YOUR E-MAIL). I THEN CONTACTED CHRYSLER BY PHONE AND TOLD THE REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT MY SITUATION. HE TOLD ME DUE TO THE AGE OF THE CAR AND THE MILEAGE THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AT THAT POINT I ASKED HIM IF I COULD SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR, HE TOLD ME AT THAT TIME THEY WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK, HOWEVER I DID RECEIVE A CUSTOMER SURVEY ON MY E-MAIL ACCOUNT. WITH THIS BEING A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE I COULD NOT WAIT FOR CHRYSLER'S RESPONSE. I REPLACE THE FUEL TANK STRAPS MYSELF, I FOUND REPLACEMENT STRAPS AT A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. I HAVE REVIEWED THIS DOT WEB SITE ON PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS WITH THIS MODEL, MAKE AND YEAR AUTOMOBILE. FOUND NOTHING IN REGARDS TO THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. I DID FIND A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY CHRYSLER ON THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WHICH WE HAD REPLACED A FEW YEARS AGO. THIS WAS AN VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN. ANOTHER COMPLAINT FROM A CUSTOMER ABOUT LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. WE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS, THE TIRES HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM THE RIM AND THE MATING SURFACE OF THE RIM TO TIRE CLEANED. *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • VIN: 2C3HD46R82H
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: 1. SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ALL LIGHTING, INTERIOR DASH, HEADLAMPS, ETC. HAVE A "FLICKERING" OR "PULSING" EFFECT. OVER TIME, THIS HAS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE, AN 02 CHRYS CONCORDE, HAS ONLY 26K MI AND WAS PURCHASED NEW. THIS FLICKERING OF LIGHTING HAS WORSENED TO THE POINT THAT IT BOTHERS OTHER MOTORISTS. 2. THIS CONDITION IS CONSTANT. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START WHEN LEFT 24 HRS WITHOUT RUNNING. VEHICLE STALLED ON AN INTERSTATE, IMMEDIATELY PUT IN NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPTED TO START, NEGATIVE. ALL LIGHTING CEASED TO FUNCTION PRIOR TO BEING ABLE TO FULLY STOP THE VEHICLE. 4-WAY-FLASHERS FAILED TO FUNCTION WHILE ON SHOULDER AND MY VEHICLE WAS NEARLY STRUCK BY ANOTHER MOTORIST. 3. THIS IS CLEARLY A FACTORY DEFECT WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. DIAGNOSIS OF THE ALL SYSTEMS WERE NORMAL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF "EXCESSIVE RIPPLE" NOTED FOR THE RECHARGING SYSTEM. PERSONS TESTING VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE AN ADEQUATE EXPLANATION FOR THIS "EXCESSIVE RIPPLE" BUT WERE WILLING TO SELL ME A NEW ALTERNATOR THAT MAY OR MAY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. BATTERY (ORIGINAL) WAS REPORTEDLY STILL GOOD BUT NEEDED RECHARGING. I FOUND THE GROUND FROM ENGINE TO REMOTE NEGATIVE TERMINAL SEVERED IN HALF--IT RUNS RIGHT OVER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I THINK ORIGINALLY, IT MAY HAVE BEEN TOUCHING THE CONVERTER. IT WAS BRITTLE AND GREENISH OXIDIZED COLOR (I STILL HAVE A PIECE OF IT). I AM PLANNING TO TRY A NEW ALTERNATOR IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE AND I WILL HANG ONTO THE OLD ONE. *TR

Negative 2002 Chrysler Concorde car reviews

  1. Arnold Emmerich 2024-06-07

You have a nice car that unfortunately rattles down the road. It sounds like you've had some trouble getting it fixed, even after visiting three different dealers. One of them even switched your tires because you didn't buy rear brakes from their shop, which is frustrating. Despite the rattles, it's still fun to drive. It's a shame that you've had such poor service from Chrysler, but hopefully you'll be able to find a solution soon.

  2. Dorcas Rempel 2024-05-07

The car is comfortable and fun to drive when it is working properly. However, there have been ongoing issues with the air conditioning, which has required two compressors to be replaced, and engine missfires, which have been unsuccessfully addressed in seven shop visits. Despite these challenges, I am confident that a solution can be found to ensure the car runs smoothly and reliably.

  3. Emerald Macejkovic 2024-05-07

The car is a nice vehicle when it runs, but unfortunately, it has had some issues. At 30,000 miles, it experienced some problems, including 2 coil packs, 4 O2 sensors, 5 thermostats, 1 catalytic converter, and all transmission lines. It has been a bit of a headache over the past 2 years, and even now at 69,000 miles, it still has some overheating issues. It may be best to consider other options.

  4. Nicklaus Padberg 2024-02-29

This car rides like a truck. Without the luxury touring options, like my 2000 model had, it doesn't feel like a comfortable ride. I understand that there are some complaints about this car, but I believe that every car has its pros and cons. While I may not buy a Chrysler again, I appreciate the good memories I had with my 2000 model.

Positive 2002 Chrysler Concorde car reviews

  1. Soledad Huel 2024-11-03

This car is great! I have already driven 1300 miles and the ride is so smooth, it handles bumps with ease. The interior is amazing, with soft seats, a great stereo, and plenty of room. The car looks fantastic too, and it's fully loaded for under 28,500. What more could you want?

This has been one of the better cars I have owned. I get 28 MPG on the highway and around 21-22 mpg in the city. I have all the features I need except for a moon roof. I maintain it on a regular basis and have only had to replace the usual wear and tear items like brakes and front end alignment. I am hesitant to trade it in for an economy car as the mileage would not be that much better and I would sacrifice the ride and comfort.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my recent experience with my new vehicle. I traded in my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee for this amazing Concorde, which I was already familiar with from having one in the mid 90's. I have to say, I am truly delighted and satisfied with what Chrysler has done with this model. It has lots of power both under the hood (engine) and dash (stereo), and for the price, it's probably the best value of any car on the market. The interior and exterior looks are second to none, and I feel like I'm enjoying myself as much as I did in the 60's-70's with the muscle cars of that era. One thing I did notice, though, is that living in Canada, I would have thought that heated seats would be standard in the Lxi version. What do you think?

This car is quite spacious and can easily accommodate 5 adults along with their luggage. The trunk is incredibly spacious and can hold a lot of stuff. With 234hp and an automatic transmission, the car performs exceptionally well, even though it is relatively large. The brakes are fantastic too. Although there was one warranty repair, it was a minor issue with the antenna causing a little static when listening to the radio with the rear defrost on. The car has a slightly rough idle, but it is very reliable. Overall, you get a great value for your money with this car, despite the slightly rough idle.

I hope this message finds you well! I just wanted to share my experience with my LXI. I have driven 16,000 miles so far and I am happy to report that I have had absolutely no problems with it. In fact, it is the best 'road car' I have ever driven! As someone who is 61 years old, I have never had a more comfortable and reliable ride. Thank you for creating such a wonderful car!
