THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 40 , BUT I WAS NOT GOING THAT FAST BECAUSE 1) THE ROAD WAS WET BECAUSE IT HAD JUST RAINED LIGHTLY, MAYBE 8 MINUTES PRIOR 2) I SAW THE OTHER DRIVER'S CAR WAS IN MY LANE. I WAS HIT PRETTY MUCH HEAD ON. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! I HAD TO BE CUT OUT OF MY CAR.THUS MY BEAUTIFUL CONCORD WAS A TOTAL LOSS. IT HAD BEEN IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-07-03
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: QUICK-STRUTS AFTER MARKET REPLACEMENT PARTS MAY BE DEFECTIVE. THIS PRODUCT IS CALLED A MONROE QUICK- STRUT. THE FAILED PART WAS RETURNED FOR WARRANTY REPLACEMENT: PART #171939. THE TOP OF THE STRUT, NUT, AND STEAL WASHER "TORE FREE" OF THE PLATE WHICH COMPRESSES THE SPRING. THE 'TOP PLATE' PART OF THE ASSEMBLY REMAINED ANCHORED TO THE CAR BY THREE NUTS LOCATED IN THE TRUNK. THIS PLATE NO LONGER CONTAINED THE STRUT AND THE COMPRESSED SPRING AS SUPPLIED IN QUICK STRUT ASSEMBLY. THE ASSEMBLY AS PURCHASED, HAS A NUT AND WASHER MOUNTED IN TWO INCHES OF RUBBER MOLDED IN THE PLATE ON TOP OF THE STRUT SPRING ASSEMBLY. THAT RUBBER COMPONENT FAILED. THIS BECOMES OBVIOUS AFTER THE PARTS ARE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE OEM PART CONTAINS A LARGE WASHER LOCATED ON THE TOP WHICH WOULD PREVENT THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. THIS FAILURE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. *TR
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-02-06
- VIN: 2C3HD56T8TH
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER
- Summary: WE SMELLED GAS FROM THE ENGINE AREA. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION NOTED A LEAK IN THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM . GAS WAS DRIPPING EVERY 1 SECOND NEAR THE O RING BY THE OUTLET FUEL RAIL. HELP!. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT A 3.5L ENGINE BUT A 3.3L 1996 CHRYSLER CONCORDE. I KNOW THE 3.5L HAD A RECALL ON THIS DID THE 3.3L HAVE ONE ALSO AND NOONE NOTICE????? ALSO WHEN YOU PUT THE FLOOR SHIFTER INTO GEAR I.E. DRIVE, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD, OR IF IN REVERSE THAT EITHER. THEN IT JERKS INTO GEAR ALMOST LIKE THE SHIFTER OR LEAVERS ARE NOT WORKING. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE LOOKED AT FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. I DO BELIEVE IT MAY BE A SHIFTER ISSUE AND THEN THE O RING LEAKING GAS LIKE A DRIPPING FAUCET. *TR

POWER TRAIN,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2009-10-15
- VIN: 2C3HD56F4TH
- Components: POWER TRAIN,STRUCTURE
- Summary: 1. "BUSY RATTLE", NOT LOUD, BUT CONTINUOUS, MOST NOTICEABLE ON SMOOTH ROADS ABOVE 30 MPH, FROM FRONT FRAME SUB-ASSEMBLY, FOUR MOUNTING BOLTS. THE SUB-FRAME ASSEMBLY IS ALSO CALLED THE "MOTOR CARRIER" AND IS BOLTED FROM THE BOTTOM UP TO THE FRAME (ABOVE). EACH BOLT GOES THROUGH A LARGE RUBBER BUSHING (ALSO CALLED AN INSULATOR). WITH 75,000 THOUSAND MILES AND NO OIL LEAKS, THE RUBBER BUSHINGS ARE ALL DRIED OUT AND FLAKING APART. EACH INSULATOR COST OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS AND IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM CHRYSLER. THE COST OF REPLACING VIA A QUOTE FROM PEP BOYS IS OVER SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS. THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE MADE FROM A HARD YELLOW PLASTIC TYPE MATERIAL AND SHOULD BE MORE DURABLE. 2. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC AT PEP BOYS THE VIBRATION WILL WEAR THE BOLTS AND EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE COULD DROP DOWN. 3. PEP BOYS RECOMMENDS THE BUSHINGS AND THE BOLTS TO BE REPLACED. THE NEW BUSHINGS FROM CHRYSLER HAVE A 1 YEAR WARRANTY. REVIEWED THE COMPLAINTS FOR THIS PROBLEM AND DID NOT SEE ANY ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY THE RATTLE OR A REPORT THAT THE ENGINE ACTUALLY COULD FALL OUT ON THE ROAD. THE DATA BASE IS NOT WELL ORGANIZED AS IT IS SEGMENTED BY MONTHLY REPORTS. I CAN SEE HOW THE NOISE MIGHT CAUSE ONE TO INCREASE THE RADIO VOLUME AND NOT HEAR AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE. THESE BUSHINGS WILL BE REPLACED. *TR
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES,INTERIOR LIGHTING,EQUIPMENT PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-04-05
- VIN: 2C3HD56T4TH
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES,INTERIOR LIGHTING,EQUIPMENT
- Summary: I'VE HAD A 1996 CHRYSLER CONCORDE LX FOR ABOUT 1 YR. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION 99% OF THE TIME I HAVE TO KEEP TURNING THE KEY UNTIL IT TURNS ON, IF IT EVEN DOES, AND A FEW MONTHS AGO EVERYTIME MY CAR DOES TURN ON, ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON WHILE DRIVING AND THE DOOR LOCKS KEEP GOING UP AND DOWN. IT HASN'T BEEN DRIVABLE FOR AT LEAST 2 MONTHS NOW. REPLACED RELAYS, FUSES, STARTER, ALTERNATOR, BATTERY! I EVEN TOOK IT TO A SHOP WHICH THE MANAGER IS A FAMILY FRIEND, HE HAD IT FOR 2 WKS. RAN A FULL DIAGNOSTIC AND ALSO THE BATTERY WHICH IS NEW AND HAVE EXCHANGED SEVERAL TIMES WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE. IT HAS NEW BATTERY GROUND CABLE NEW CABLE FROM ALTERNATOR TO STARTER CONNECTION, NEW SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES AND STILL HAS ALL THESE PROBLEMS. AND NOW IF THE CAR WILL TURN ON THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON. CAR WAS OVERHEATING AND IT NOW HAS A NEW THERMOSTAT. THIS IS THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED! AND NOW THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAS BEGUN LEAKING. AND A FEW TIMES I HAVE NOTICED THE GEARS SHIFT. THE MOST FRIGHTENING THING IS WHEN IT DOES START, IT WILL DRIVE GOOD FOR ABOUT 2 BLOCKS AND THEN, IT JUST TOTALLY SHUTS DOWN WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS OR SIGNS PRIOR TO SHUTTING DOWN. I AM A DISABLED INDIVIDUAL AND AM SO STRESSED OUT BECAUSE IT IS LITERALLY UNDRIVABLE. AFTER I BOUGHT THIS CAR THE 1ST THING I NOTICED AFTER ABOUT A WEEK WAS THE PROBLEM WHEN TURNING THE KEY IN IGNITION OVER AND OVER AGAIN TILL IT WOULD FINALLY START. SOMETIMES I WOULD SIT IN THE CAR 15 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD START. I'M SURPRISED I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYONE ELSE MENTION THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE A LEMON AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I'VE MISSED DR. APPTS. AND ALSO MY SON IS DISABLED AND WE'RE JUST HAVING THE MOST TERRIBLE TIME WITH NO RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. CAN U PLEASE POST IF ANY OF THESE ISSUES ARE SOME OF CHRYSLERS UNREPORTED DEFECTS OR RECALLS. PLEASE HELP! *TR
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 1999-01-01
- VIN: 1G2WP52K2XF
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: MOUNTING SUPPORT BUSHINGS TO "RACK & PINION" BECOME BRITTLE AND ALLOW MOVEMENT OF RACK WHICH REDUCES STEERING RESPONSE. DURING COLD WEATHER THE PROBLEM IS ALSO NOTICEABLE AS A SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL 'BACK AND FORTH'. THE HEAT FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE IS DIRECTLY BELOW THE RACK AND THAT PIPE SHOULD BE INSULATED TO REDUCE THE HEAT TRANSFER TO THE BUSHINGS THAT ANCHOR THE RACK (ABOVE). *TR
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-07-21
- VIN: 1C3HD56F5TF
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: A POPPING SOUND WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. STEERING WHEEL CONSTANTLY VIBRATES AND HAS SINCE I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE. A JULY 2008 SAFETY INSPECTION REVEALED "EXCESSIVE PLAY" IN THE STEERING LINKAGE AND LEFT OUTER TIEROD WAS BAD. REPAIRS PERFORMED AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED YET AGAIN THREE MONTHS LATER. AFTER LEARNING OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS RELATED TO STEERING PROBLEMS IN CHRYSLER VEHICLES, I NOW FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND THAT OF MY FAMILY. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DANGEROUS PRODUCTS THEY ARE PUTTING ON THE MARKET. *TR
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-04-26
- VIN: 2C3HD56T2TH
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I HAVE A 1996 CHRYSLER CONCORDE AND WHILE DRIVING HAD THE TIE ROD BOLTS BREAK COMPLETELY OFF FROM THE RACK, SINCE I HAVE HAD THE BUSHINGS AND BOLTS REPLACED TWICE, AND AM STILL IN NEED OF RACK MOUNT BUSHINGS AS THEY HAVE FAILED AND I NOW ONCE AGAIN FEEL THE CAR FLOATING WHERE EVER IT WANTS TO GO ON THE ROAD. THE RACK MOUNT BUSHINGS ARE APPROX. $53 FOR TWO AND I AM IN NEED OF FOUR. I WORK BARELY PART TIME AND CANNOT AFFORD TO CONTINUE TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT SHOULDN'T EVEN EXIST. WHERE DOES A COMPANY LIKE DC STOP ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITY FOR ISSUES THAT ARE VERY MUCH ON THEIR END OF THE STICK? HAD I BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY I WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY BEEN KILLED NO QUESTION. I HAVE 3 CHILDREN THAT REGULARLY RIDE IN THE CAR AND IS CHRYSLER GOING TO PAY FOR OUR FUNERAL WHEN THEIR PRODUCT KILLS ONE OF US OR ON OF THEIR MILLIONS OF OTHER CUSTOMERS? I HIGHLY DOUBT IT. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS IMMEDIATELY! *TR
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-02-08
- Number Of Injuries: 4
- VIN: 2C3HD56T4TH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: MY HUSBAND, 2 CHILDREN, AGES 4 AND 6, AND MYSELF WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN OUR 1996 CHRYSLER CONCORDE SUDDENLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND STARTED ROLLING BACKWARD DOWN A HILL. WE HADN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS UP TO THIS POINT. OUR CAR ONLY HAS 40,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. A TRANSMISSION REPAIR FIRM TOLD US IT WAS OUR TRANSMISSION AND GAVE US A DIAGNOSTIC CODE OF "P1787". WE CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX RIGHT NOW. WE HAVE TRIED IT ON OUR RESIDENTIAL STREET AND IT GOES FOR A FEW YARDS AND TRANSMISSION SLIPS. I HAVE HAD A LOT OF MEDICAL PROBLEMS THIS YEAR AND NOT HAVING SAFE TRANSPORTATION HAS MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET MEDICAL CARE, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT MY CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN HURT BY THIS VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONING. *TR
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-09-20
- VIN: 2C3HD56F9TH
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 1996 CHRYSLER CONCORDE FROM AN INDIVIDUAL PARTY. 2 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR, MY BOYFRIEND HAD PARKED ALONG THE STREET IN FRONT OF A FRIENDS HOUSE FOR A MOMENT, AND HAD JUST BEGAN TO PULL AWAY FROM THE CURB, WHEN HE HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE. AT THE SAME TIME, HE WAS TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT, AWAY FROM THE CURB, BUT THE CAR JUST KEPT GOING STRAIGHT. LUCKILY, HE WAS GOING AT A VERY LOW SPEED, SO NO ONE WAS INJURED. AFTER STOPPING THE CAR, HE LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS UNDER THE HOOD, AND FOUND THAT THE BOLTS FROM THE RACK AND PINION STEERING MECHANISM HAD BEEN COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF. THEY HAD SNAPPED IN HALF, LEAVING PART OF THE BOLTS INSIDE OF THE UNIT. I THANK GOD THAT NO ONE WAS HURT, AND THAT MY 12 YEAR OLD SON WASN'T IN THE CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR REPAIRS, SINCE I JUST SPENT ALL THE MONEY I HAD BUYING THIS VEHICLE, SO I HAVEN'T EVEN LOOKED INTO WHAT THIS IS GOING TO COST ME. I TRULY HOPE THAT CHRYSLER ACCEPTS RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE EVEN MORE PEOPLE ARE INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,EQUIPMENT PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-03-21
- VIN: 2C3HD56FXTH
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,EQUIPMENT
- Summary: ON 03/21/2007 I WAS COMING FROM WORK AND SMELLED GASOLINE, ON HAVING MY VEHICLE CHECKED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL RAIL AND THE FUEL LINE HAD BECOME DISENGAGED. AS I HAD THE FUEL RAIL CHANGED UNDER A RECALL ORDER BACK IN 11/2007, I CONTACTED THE DEALER THAT HAD COMPLETED THE WORK BACK THEN. I WAS ADVISED THAT IF IT WAS THEIR FAULT THE REPAIRS WOULD BE MADE AT NO CHARGE. IF NOT I WOULD BE CHARGED $75 PER HR. IT WAS AGREED THAT THE DEALER WOULD PICK UP THE VEHICLE ON 03/22/2007. AS OF 03/25/3007 MY VEHICLE HAD STILL NOT BEEN PICKED UP. I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE SAID VEHICLE BECAUSE OF "GASOLINE" SQUIRTING OUT FROM THE DISCONNECTION AND POURING OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON THE VEHICLE.*AK

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my '96 Concorde. I bought it brand new and have been driving it regularly ever since. It has been completely reliable and I've only had to replace a few items due to wear and tear, not failure. I cannot express enough how much I love my car! Although many components are now wearing out, I don't mind spending the money to replace them because it has been such a great investment. This car has truly paid off handsomely for me and I plan on keeping it indefinitely!
-
Best car I ever owned! It only had one problem with the air conditioner in 10 years, but we loved it so much that it's still in the family and going strong. It's a real workhorse!
-
Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to let you know that I came across a car that might interest you. It was picked up in 2002 with low mileage and a great price. While there were some minor repairs needed, nothing too serious. It's a solid car that's safe to drive in bad weather. However, after 120K miles, there were some transmission problems and the climate control occasionally had some issues. Overall, it's a great car that might be worth checking out!
-
Your car sounds like a great investment! It's so reliable that it only needed a water pump replacement at 90k, and it's still going strong at 110k. I can understand why you wouldn't want to trade it in - it must be really comfortable. Plus, it's a smart choice to hold onto it after the first few years when depreciation is highest. Thanks for sharing your experience!
-
I completely agree that the Concorde is an excellent choice! It's spacious interior, luxurious appointments, and plenty big trunk make it perfect for accommodating all your needs, including two full sets of golf clubs!

Hey there! I've been driving my Concord for almost a year now. My dad got it for me as a school car, which was really nice of him. The first night I had it, there was a bit of an oil leak, but my dad was able to fix it easily. Overall, it's a great car, but it's not the best on gas and it's a bit big for me. I'm going to be doing a lot of driving for college, so I'm looking for something more fuel efficient. Thanks for listening!
Junius Stamm 2024-10-03
Although this car has had some issues, we have been able to address them effectively. We have repaired the A/C 5 times, replaced the heads, p/s pumps (3), water pumps (3), and a few other items that are not commonly seen in other cars. We also replaced the windshield wipers, which was a bit expensive due to the hard connection between the motor and wipers.
Adolphus Bradtke 2024-08-25
Hi there! I noticed that your car has had a few issues in the past, including transmission problems at 97,000 miles and a rebuilt transmission at 98,000 miles. The water pump was also replaced at 95,000 miles. Currently, the gas mileage is about 17 mpg and it's recommended to use mid-grade 89 octane fuel. Lastly, the rear bumper paint is fading and exposing the prime. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

The Chrysler is an impressive vehicle with a top-rated engine and transmission. The 3.5L engine is powerful and smooth, and the LXI trim offers a luxurious and comfortable experience on long trips. The interior design is classy and refined, exceeding expectations for a Chrysler. The car also handles well for its size. While the upgraded engine may consume more fuel, the car is generally reliable. However, the air conditioning compressor has required multiple repairs at a cost of $800 each, which is unfortunate. Despite this issue, the Chrysler remains a confident choice for drivers seeking a refined and powerful vehicle.

Design is great. Comfort and convenience are very good. You get a lot of extras at a reasonable price. However, it's important to note that if you plan on keeping this car for more than five years, you may incur higher repair costs and the resale value may not be as high. It's something to consider, but overall it's a great car.
