Common 1993 Chrysler Concorde problems
The Chrysler Concorde, introduced in 1993, is an Americanized version of French luxury. While it offered a luxurious ride and distinctive exterior, it also came with its fair share of mechanical problems. Here are some of the most common issues reported by Chrysler Concorde owners:
- Oil Sludge in 2.7L Engine: This is a common problem with the 2.7L DaimlerChrysler engine, which is highly susceptible to oil sludge. Oil sludge is a sticky hell stew that coats the inside of the engine, retaining heat and putting severe strain on the mechanical parts. This can lead to engine failure if not addressed promptly.
- Shifting Issues: Some Chrysler Concorde owners have reported issues with the car's shifting, such as not shifting properly or going into limp mode. These issues can often be resolved by restarting the car, but they can still be a cause for concern. This problem has been reported by the owner of a 1993 Concorde with 71,000 miles.
- Engine Failure: Engine failure due to oil sludge has been reported by 25 people in the 2000 Concorde, 18 people in the 1999 Concorde, and 16 people in the 2001 Concorde. This issue is often caused by the buildup of oil sludge in the engine, which can lead to overheating and eventual failure.
- Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) System: Some Chrysler Concorde owners have reported issues with the ATC system, which can turn on the heat or AC automatically. This problem has been reported by 7 people in the 1993 Concorde.
- Power Seat Issues: Some Chrysler Concorde owners have reported issues with the power seat, which may not move forward. This problem has been reported by the owner of a 1993 Concorde with 71,000 miles.
- Wheel Alignment Issues: Some Chrysler Concorde owners have reported issues with wheel alignment, which can affect the car's handling and fuel efficiency. This problem has been reported by the owner of a 1993 Concorde with 71,000 miles.
- Radio Antenna Issues: Some Chrysler Concorde owners have reported issues with the radio antenna, which may not work properly. This problem has been reported by the owner of a 1993 Concorde with 71,000 miles.
- Heat/AC Blower Issues: Some Chrysler Concorde owners have reported issues with the heat or AC blower, which may stay on even when the car is turned off. This problem has been reported by the owner of a 1993 Concorde with 71,000 miles.
Overall, the Chrysler Concorde is a luxurious car that offers a smooth ride and distinctive exterior. However, it is not without its mechanical issues, which can range from minor inconveniences to major problems such as engine failure. If you are considering purchasing a Chrysler Concorde, it is important to be aware of these common issues and to have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic before making a purchase.

STEERING,EQUIPMENT PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-09-23
- VIN: 2C3EL56F1PH
- Components: STEERING,EQUIPMENT
- Summary: MY SON HAS A 1993 CONCORDE, AND HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE STEERING. VIBRATION IN STEERING, AND TO MUCH PLAY. WHEN HE INFORMED ME OF THE PROBLEM HE WAS HAVING, I TOLD HIM TO TURN HIS STEERING WHEEL, THEN HE TURNED IT THE OTHER WAY, BOTH TIE RODS LOOKED ODD. I TOLD HIM DON'T TAKE THE CAR FAR. AFTER HE LEFT, I NOTICED ODD MARKS LEFT IN THE DIRT IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE, LEFT LARGER AND HEAVIER IMPRINT THEN THE PASSENGER SIDE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THIS, AND FOUND THIS HTTP://WWW.DAIMLERCHRYSLERVEHICLEPROBLEMS.COM. AS I WAS READING THE INFORMATION I WAS AMAZED, THEN READING FURTHER I NOTICED THEY EXPLAIN THE PROBLEMS AND WHAT HAPPENS. GRANTED THE CAR HAS 135,000 MILES ON IT, IF THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD A PROBLEM AND HAD IT FIXED OR BAND AIDED ADD ANOTHER 65,000 MILES TO A PROBLEM THAT ALREADY EXISTS, IT WOULD BE TIME TO FIX AGAIN. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM, AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE CAR HAS OTHER ISSUES, BESIDES THE STEERING, THIS ALSO EXPLAINS WHY MOST OF THE CHRYSLERS AT THE YOU PULL IT YARD I WAS AT WHERE HEAVENLY DAMAGED IN THE FRONT, AND HEAD ON. IF YOUR STEERING FAILS, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE HOLD ON, HOPE FOR THE BEST, TILL YOU HIT SOMETHING HEAD ON, OR SOMEONE HITS YOU. I HAVE HAD SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH MY SON, HE BECAME HEAVILY ADDICTED TO HEROIN, IT TOOK ME 2 YEARS TO GET HIM TO GET THE HELP HE NEEDED. HE WENT TO A FAITH BASED REHAB, HE COMPLETED THE PROGRAM AND CAME HOME OCTOBER 2006. HE WORKED ALL YEAR TO SAVE UP FOR A CAR, THIS GAVE HIM A GREAT BOOST, THAT HE ACCOMPLISHED HIS GOAL. I GUESS I AM LUCKY THAT I KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT CARS, AND MY SON IS ABLE TO TALK WITH ME ABOUT HIS ISSUES WITH THE CAR, SO NO ONE HAS BEEN HURT YET. BELIEVE ME IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO MY SON, WHILE HE IS DRIVING THIS CAR, AND I FIND OUT IT IS BECAUSE OF THE STEERING PROBLEMS, THAT THE DEALER/MANUFACTURER KNEW ABOUT.. THEY THINK THEY ARE SAVING MONEY, ATTORNEYS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THEN PARTS. *JB

- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,AIR BAGS,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: ON 09/11/03 I PURCHASED A USED 1993 CHRYSLER CONCORDE. ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE LOW FUEL GAUGE AND AIRBAG LIGHTS STARTED COMING ON, ND MY TANK IS AT LEAST HALF FULL ALL THE TIME. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I NEVER KNOW WHEN THE LIGHTS WILL COME ON AND WHEN THEY DO, IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SOMETIMES STALL AND JERK VIOLENTLY AS IF I'VE BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR AND GAS FUMES ARE SO STRONG THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH PRIVATE MECHANICS AND EXPLAINED IT TO THEM BUT NOONE COULD FIND ANY PROBLEM. I RECENTLY FOUND A WEBSITE LISTING PERSONS WITH SOME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS I'VE EXPERIENCED WITH THIS VEHICLE AND FIND IT AMAZING THAT WE HAVEN'T ALL BECOME A FATALITY BECAUSE OF THE MANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. I HAVE A HOOD THAT WON'T STAY UP, A TRUNK THAT SOMETIMES OPENS BY ITSELF, THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GOES OFF AND THE HEATER COMES ON AT FULL SPEED, ACCELERATION WHEN CHANGING GEARS FROM PARKING TO DRIVE AND ON AND ON. I UNDERSTAND THAT PROBLEMS COME WITH USED CARS BUT SOME OF THESE ISSUSES WERE THERE WHEN THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW AND WAS RECALLED. I WILL BE GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME I WILL HAVE SOME OF THESE ISSUES IN WIRTING AND HOPEFULLY THEY CAN GIVE ME A BETTER ANSWER THAN. *AK "I FOUND NOTHING" (EXCEPT MY MONEY). BEFORE THIS CAR I DROVE A 1994 PLYMOUTH ACCLAIM WHICH I BOUGHT IN 1995. IT SERVED ME REALLY WELL FOR 8 YEARS WITH ME DRIVING BACK AND FORTH TO MY HOMETOWN IN MISSISSIPPI, SOMETIMES TWICE A YEAR. THE ADJUSTMENTS MADE ON IT WERE NORMAL FOR WEAR AND TEAR AFTER THAT LONG, AND IT DID MAKE SOME OF THE SAME NOISES AS THE CONCORDE, BUT I DON'T THINK I'LL BE BUYING ANOTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLE AFTER I TRADE THIS ONE. I PRAY THAT IT DOESN'T CATCH FIRE OR BLOW UP BEFORE I CAN.

This vehicle has been the most reliable that I have ever purchased. With several trips to Florida from MA under its belt and a small collision to boot. The power delivered from the 3.5 is unsurpassable from a car of its size and weight. I would love to see some aftermarket body effects for it, though.

This car has been with me for over 10 years, and despite many air conditioner repairs and a transmission rebuild, it still looks like a newer car. It handles well, and long trips are a pleasure too. While I know I want a Camry or an Avalon, they just don't have the same styling, class, and appeal as the Concorde.

Congratulations on your new Infiniti I35! I hope it brings you as much joy as your previous car did. Your old car served you well, with its impressive 3.5 L engine and all the options. It's great to hear that you never had any serious mechanical problems, and that it was surprisingly nimble with great pick up. It's also impressive that you were able to cruise at 75 mph and get 27+mpg doing it! Although the mpg wasn't as good around town, it's still a great value. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I really adore this car. I acquired it back in 2007 when it already had 202,000 miles on it. Although it overheated and was out of commission for a month, I got it fixed and it has been a reliable companion ever since. I particularly enjoy the Infinity sound system and the sleek design, which still looks great even for a car from '93. It gets decent gas mileage and is perfect for both families and long trips. Despite its size, it's surprisingly fast and handles very well. If you're looking for a reliable car, the Concordes that are still out there are definitely worth considering, especially since many other models are not as dependable.

After 179K miles, I still consider my Concorde to be reliable. It always gets me where I need to go, and even though my wife points out that the power lock button on the driver's side has long since migrated into the paneling of the door, we still love it. I am happy to report that the passenger side power lock is doing just fine. Also, the car periodically locks and unlocks itself, but we've just learned to roll down a window when we leave it running. I believe that this gives the car character.
