The Audi TT is a production front-engine, 2-door, 2+2 sports coupé and roadster, manufactured and marketed by Audi from 1998 to 2023 across three generations.

For each of its three generations, the TT has been based on consecutive generations of Volkswagen's "Group A" platforms, starting with its "PQ34" fourth generation. The TT shares powertrain and suspension layouts with its platform mates, including the Audi A3, like a transversely mounted front-engine, powering front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and fully independent suspension using MacPherson struts in front.

The TT's first two generations were assembled by Audi's Hungarian subsidiary, one of the world's largest engine manufacturing plants, using bodyshells manufactured and painted at Audi's Ingolstadt plant and parts made entirely by the Hungarian factory for the third generation.

IT CAME UP TO BE (P0304) CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, AND HE REPLACED SPARK PLUGS, COIL PACKS. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. HE HAD CHECKED THE COMPRESSION. IT WAS GOOD. CHECK ALL WIRES, SENORS...ECT. ANYTHING HE COULD THINK OF AND IT ALL CHECKED OUT GOOD. TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED COUPLE MONTHS BEFORE THIS PROBLEM EXISTED. THE PROBLEM ONLY EXISTS WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. ONCE YOU WARM UP THE ENGINE, RESTART THE CAR, AND IT DRIVES PERFECTLY FINE! I AM BEING TOLD THAT MY CAR WILL NOT BE REPAIRED BY AUDI OF AMERICA UNLESS I PAY THE $1,300.00 CHARGE TO HAVE IT FIXED. THIS IS AN AUDI PROBLEM AND THEY ARE TRYING TO TURN IT INTO MY PROBLEM. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2002 Audi Tt.

2014-03-07
  • Manufacturer: The Gates Corporation
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
  • Summary: The Gates Corporation (Gates) is recalling certain aftermarket Tru-Flow Water Pumps, part number TFW 41127, sold at certain NAPA Auto Parts and/or installed by automotive service technicians after November 1, 2013 (and manufactured August 2013 through October 2013) that have a black-colored pulley/sprocket or do not have 'US9377' stamped on the water pump housing. These service replacement parts were sold for use in model year 1999-2005 Audi A4, 2000-2006 Audi TT, 1998-2005 Volkswagen Beetle, 1999-2006 Golf, 1999-2008 and 2011-2013 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000-2005 Volkswagen Passat. In the affected water pumps, the pulley or sprocket that turns the timing belt may develop microfractures causing the timing belt to fail.
  • Consequence: A failure of the timing belt may cause the engine to shut down, potentially increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: Gates will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pump, free of charge. The recall began during May 2014. Owners may contact The Gates Corporation at 1-303-744-1911.

  • Summary: CERTAIN CARDONE MASTER CYLINDERS WITH PART NUMBERS 10-2925, 10-2987, 10-2987MZA, 10-3083, 11-3015, 11-3042, 11-3044, 11-3045, 11-3047, 11-3064, AND 11-3156, AND WITH DATE CODES LOWER THAN DCA7078 SOLD AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR USE ON THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. THE SEAL ON MASTER CYLINDER CAN FAIL AND LEAK BRAKE FLUID.
  • Consequence: LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID CAN RESULT IN POOR BRAKING PERFORMANCE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
  • Remedy: CARDONE WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND OFFER TO REPURCHASE ANY DEFECTIVE MASTER CYLINDERS. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING APRIL 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT CARDONE AT 1-800-777-4780.

However, I ultimately decided to trade it in for a new 350Z with about $7500 in options that were not available on a similarly priced Audi. As someone who has owned 3 BMW's and 1 Audi, I have grown tired of overpriced and underpowered German quality.

    I had a few issues with my car, including the need to replace the turbo, sway bars, dash computer twice, drivers seat and horn. Unfortunately, it spent over 14 weeks in service. Additionally, it burns 1 quart of oil every 900 miles and the rear suspension creaks over uneven surfaces such as speed bumps and driveway entrances. Despite my efforts to set up a meeting with the local Audi Factory Rep through the Audi service manager and Audi Factory 800#, it never materialized. After 20 months of frustration, I hired an attorney and was able to successfully use the CA Lemon Law to have Audi repurchase the car, including tax and license. While I had some difficulties, I am grateful for the resolution.

    After shopping for the Z3 and the Boxter, I ultimately chose the TT. And I must say, 65,000 miles later, I know I made the right choice! The TT is much more comfortable and has lots of features that the others do not have. The interior is absolutely gorgeous and it can be used in all weather conditions. Plus, it has almost the same performance as the others. Everywhere I go, people can't help but look at it. It's tremendous fun to drive and there's really no comparison with the others. And the best part? It's been very reliable and trouble-free after 65,000 miles! All in all, a truly great car.

    Car still had full warranty for 10 months. Just know what you're buying. You cannot go wrong with an Audi. Parts are expensive, but it's worth it to check salvage yards. The car shifts smoothly and corners great. It's important to invest in good tyres, but they don't have to be the most expensive ones. It rides a little stiff, but that's how it's supposed to be.

    This car is a blast to drive and handles great! It turns heads wherever it goes and performs well in all weather conditions. The interior warms up quickly, even in single-digit temperatures. The seats are comfortable and the manual transmission is smooth. While it doesn't have power seats, the overall design and engineering of this car is superb - right down to the headlight spray/washer. I highly recommend getting the Bose Audio System for the ultimate TT experience! If you have the option, go for the 225hp rather than the 180hp. Thanks for considering this car!
