2014 Porsche Cayenne problems
The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by the German company Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle. The first generation was known internally within Porsche as the Type 9PA (955/957) or E1. It was the first V8-engined vehicle built by Porsche since 1995, when the Porsche 928 was discontinued. It is also Porsche's first off-road variant vehicle since its Super and Junior tractors of the 1950s, and the first Porsche with four doors. Since 2014, the Cayenne has been sold alongside a smaller Porsche SUV, the Macan.
The second-generation Cayenne (Type 92A or E2) was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March. The Cayenne shares its platform, body frame, doors and electronics with the similar Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. It received a facelift in 2014 with minor external changes, and introduced a new plug-in E-Hybrid version, with its public launch at the Paris Motor Show. Since 2008, all engines have featured direct injection technology. The third generation (Type PO536) was unveiled in 2017 at Stuttgart.
First generation (E1 9PA; 2002)
The original Porsche Cayenne entered into the global market to a mixed reception, but it proved itself to have excellent performance for an SUV and had comparably good handling as well as powerful engines. The lineup initially consisted of the V8-powered Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Later in the model cycle, VR6 and diesel-powered versions joined the lineup. In the eight model years of the E1 generation, a total of 276,652 units were produced.
The base model Cayenne is powered by a 3.2-L VR6 engine producing 250 PS (184 kW; 247 hp). The intake manifold is unique to Porsche, but otherwise the engine is largely the same as the VW engine. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) is 9.1 seconds with the manual transmission and 9.7 seconds with the Tiptronic S.

Common 2014 Porsche Cayenne problems
The 2014 Porsche Cayenne is a popular luxury SUV, but like any other vehicle, it has its fair share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues by owners
- Porsche Communication Management (PCM) Issues: Many Cayenne owners have reported various issues with the PCM system, including the unit restarting every 2-3 minutes, map not loading, loading in the wrong language, turning on and off randomly, and more. These problems are often attributed to a software update that resulted in unstable working conditions. The PCM system can either have an electrical or physical malfunction, or it can exhibit strange behavior that requires a reset to the original factory defaults.
- Heavy Gear Changes & Noisy Transmission: Early Cayenne owners commonly experienced a heavy downshift from the transmission, accompanied by much louder gear shifts and clunking sounds. This problem is often misdiagnosed as a physical failure in the transmission itself, when the more likely cause is in fact the valve body assembly within the transmission. Failure of the mechanism can lead to some wild gear shifts.
- Transfer Case - Vibrations Under Acceleration: Some Cayenne owners have reported vibrations under acceleration, which is often attributed to a problem with the transfer case. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn or damaged bearings, a loose or damaged drive shaft, or a problem with the transfer case itself. A thorough inspection and diagnosis by a qualified mechanic is necessary to determine the root cause of this problem.
- Cooling System Issues: Some Cayenne owners have reported cooling system issues, including overheating and leaks. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty water pump, a damaged thermostat, or a leak in the cooling system. A thorough inspection and diagnosis by a qualified mechanic is necessary to determine the root cause of this problem.
- Electrical System Issues: Some Cayenne owners have reported various electrical system issues, including problems with the battery, alternator, and starter motor. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn or damaged components, corrosion, or a problem with the vehicle's wiring. A thorough inspection and diagnosis by a qualified mechanic is necessary to determine the root cause of this problem.
- Suspension Issues: Some Cayenne owners have reported suspension issues, including problems with the air suspension system, which can result in a rough ride, uneven tire wear, and other problems. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn or damaged components, leaks in the air suspension system, or a problem with the vehicle's wiring.
- Brake System Issues: Some Cayenne owners have reported brake system issues, including problems with the brake pads, rotors, and calipers. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn or damaged components, contaminated brake fluid, or a problem with the vehicle's wiring. A thorough inspection and diagnosis by a qualified mechanic is necessary to determine the root cause of this problem.
- Exhaust System Issues: Some Cayenne owners have reported exhaust system issues, including leaks, rust, and other problems. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn or damaged components, corrosion, or a problem with the vehicle's wiring. A thorough inspection and diagnosis by a qualified mechanic is necessary to determine the root cause of this problem.
- Interior Trim Issues: Some Cayenne owners have reported interior trim issues, including problems with the dashboard, door panels, and other components. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn or damaged components, loose or missing screws, or a problem with the vehicle's wiring. A thorough inspection and diagnosis by a qualified mechanic is necessary to determine the root cause of this problem.
- Engine Issues: Some Cayenne owners have reported engine issues, including problems with the fuel system, ignition system, and other components. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn or damaged components, contaminated fuel, or a problem with the vehicle's wiring. A thorough inspection and diagnosis by a qualified mechanic is necessary to determine the root cause of this problem.
In conclusion, while the 2014 Porsche Cayenne is a popular and capable luxury SUV, it is not without its common problems. Owners have reported a variety of issues, including PCM problems, transfer case vibrations, cooling system issues, electrical system issues, suspension issues, brake system issues, exhaust system issues, interior trim issues, engine issues, and more. You'll find this vehicle to be very formidable on and off the road.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this vehicle and the dealer was incredibly helpful throughout the process. I custom ordered it with the Premium+ package, panoramic roof, tow package, and more on 08/22/2013. It was built, shipped, and arrived at the dealership on 10/31 - impressive! I'm extremely pleased with everything this vehicle has to offer. Here are a few details: The handling is awesome with quick acceleration and solid stopping power, and its cornering ability is truly impressive. The mileage is also impressive - I get 30+ mpg driving conservatively in mixed city/highway mode, and even when driving aggressively in sport mode, I still get 22+ mpg combined. When driving on the highway alone, I get 32+ mpg at 50-55mph, and the best way to keep it under 2000RPM is to go under 30mpg at 70+mph.

This review after first 5k mile mice ... low end torque makes the car quick at all speeds. Transmission shifts are butter smooth. It doesn't sound like a diesel. Gas mileage on the road is low 30s, in town mid 20s. The interior is quiet and the ride is all Porsche. The first oil change was $200 at the dealer. Build quality is excellent. The navigation system is best in class. I traded an X5 and what a difference! I can't wait to get in and drive!

Hi there! I've been the proud owner of my Cayenne diesel for two years now. It's been an absolute pleasure to drive around town, especially with my two kids, two dogs, and groceries in tow. When I'm in the mood for some fun on the back roads, I simply switch it to sport mode and let it take on the turns. I'm happy to report that I'm getting 27-30 mpg around town, which is fantastic. Recently, I went on a 2500 mile road trip and drove 863 miles on the first day alone, averaging 74 mph. I was pleasantly surprised to get 34-35 mpg and go almost 700 miles on one tank of diesel! This SUV is perfect for those who love driving on country roads and taking long trips. It also handles snow and rain with ease thanks to its different driving modes. The only thing I wish is that they offered a manual model. Thanks for reading!

Great Vehicle! It is fuel efficient (24 MPG suburban/city driving) and can drive like a sport car - you pick your style. It looks small but feels BIG, with excellent ventilated front seats and a nice interior. The sound, traction, and acceleration are all great. I just love it!

After less than six months of ownership and less than 3,000 miles of driving, I have experienced some issues with my new 2013 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. I brought my car in for loud clanging noises when I backed up, and they replaced my entire catalytic converter. Ten days later, due to different clanging noises, they replaced all of my muffler tips and electronic key fobs as the car was not recognizing them. It has been frustrating, but I am hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon. I have heard good things about the Range Rover Sport, but I am still happy with my purchase.
