Capri (later Mercury Capri) is a nameplate marketed by the Lincoln-Mercury division of Ford Motor Company over three generations between 1970 and 1994.

From 1970 to 1978, the Capri was a sport compact marketed in North America by the Lincoln-Mercury division without any Ford or Mercury divisional branding; it was a captive import, manufactured by Ford of Europe and sold simply as the Capri. From 1979 to 1986, the second generation Capri became part of the Mercury model line as a U.S. built pony car. From 1991 to 1994, the third generation Mercury Capri was a roadster manufactured by Ford Australia and marketed outside North America as the Ford Capri.

In North America, the first and third generations of the Capri were marketed without a direct Ford-brand counterpart but were sold in other markets under the Ford brand.

I purchased this car on 5/01 with 80k miles on it. Unfortunately, I have had to spend $700 on repairs every 4 months since then. The car has been a headache since day one. Here is a list of parts that I have had to replace: the entire exhaust up to the catalytic converter, 2 brake rotors, the alternator and belts, water pump, radiator, driver side window regulator, thermostat, and the sensor. Just yesterday, the automatic transmission stopped functioning. I have decided to junk the car and look for a more reliable one, or at least one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to fix. It seems like every part has to be special ordered or custom installed.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it in May of 2010 for $800 with only 78k miles and it was in good shape inside and out. The engine was clean as can be! Although the top was bad, I was able to find a replacement on eBay for a really cheap price, so now it looks great. I've driven over 23k miles in less than a year and the only issues I've had were having to replace the fuel pump (which was my fault) and a wheel bearing. Despite only having 100hp, the transmission is geared out to have decent pick up. It runs really smoothly at 70mph on I95 and with the top down, you can barely tell you're in a convertible. Thanks for listening!

This car has been a bit of a challenge for me. Although it's fun to drive, it has required frequent trips to the shop. I would advise against purchasing one of these. Thank you for considering my experience.

Hey there! That's a really nice car you've got for the summer. While the styling could have been improved, overall it's a great car for the price.

  2. Lukas Leannon 2024-11-17

I'm so glad I found this car with only 39,000 original miles! The turbo provides amazing passing power for a 4 cyl. engine. While there isn't much acceleration in first or second gear, third gear blows the doors off of other small, sporty cars. Plus, the gas mileage is an impressive 32+. I even painted it bright red and did some minor mechanical repairs. I plan on getting new interior cloth this season and painting the wheels chrome. This car always turns heads and I get a lot of questions about it. As someone who has owned three sports cars, I can confidently say that this one is my favorite! I plan on keeping it and repairing it until I can pass it down to my grandson, who also loves it.

  3. Grady Turner 2024-11-11

I love my Capri. I drove the car for a year and decided to buy something else so I wouldn't put miles on it. Currently, it has 103,379 miles and I only drive it when I am feeling frisky.

  4. Rafael Lehner 2024-10-06

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you have a fun car, but it needed a new carb which cost $300 - that's a bummer. However, it seems to be running reasonably well. I did notice a couple of minor concerns though: 1) low oil pressure and 2) high temperature. Let me know if you need any help with those!

  5. Mohamed Bauch 2024-09-02

I loved my Capri! If I ever win the lottery, I will definitely buy another one. However, it can be quite expensive to maintain. I only had mine for 3 years, but the value dropped significantly, and it spent more time in the shop for the transmission than I did driving it. On top of that, it was so limited that the parts are hard to find. But I sure do miss all the good times!
