The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations.

Initially available as a 4-door sedan on the GM Sigma platform, GM had offered the second generation CTS in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon also using the Sigma platform — and the third generation was offered only as a sedan, using a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform. High performance sedan variants were offered for each generation, as the CTS-V — with wagon and coupe variants offered for the second generation.

Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko designed the exterior of the first generation CTS, marking the production debut of a design language marketed as "Art and Science," first used on the Evoq concept car. John Manoogian III directed the second generation CTS design. Bob Boniface and Robin Krieg designed the exterior of the third generation CTS.

The CTS ended production in 2019 and was replaced by the CT5, which shared its platform with the third and final generation of the CTS in addition to the smaller CT4.

  • Summary: Ever since I purchased this 2008 CTS vehicle, I have dumped thousands of dollars to repair the vehicle even after the "recall repairs". Problems persist and the car has become more dangerous than ever. The vehicle had inspected by the dealership a number of times the first 5 years of ownership the first 3, listed below, were the replaced recalls from dealership, the rest are known safety issues that gm denies to admit to faults and recalls. *Ignition starter replacement (still have starter failure issues after 2 repairs from gm) *washer fluid warmer removal (they just snipped the wires and removed the component but left hot wires exposed in vehicle) *motherboard ecm replacement recall(ecm is still faulty and has caused dozens of electrical issues. **************** battery drains over night. On my 6th battery (just bought new one 3 days ago) gauge cluster never recalibrated and is completely disabled. Don't know how fast im going how much gas or any other info related to. sunroof constantly leaking, flooding vehicle and destroying the electrical components which fried many relays including the door lock and power window components vehicle refuses to turn but cranks on fuel often will not allow a fill up ecm throwing irrelevant codes headlight failure due to seal defect that allows moisture into headlight casing frequent oil loss. 2018: vehicle engine failure whilst driving on freeway with zero warning nearly causing a fatal crash. Purchased new alternator (Shade tree auto in san Clemente) and had to pay 2000 for tow and alternator transmission failure and near miss collision into another vehicle on a steep incline road I have taken this vehicle to a multitude of repair shops and auto supply to get a diagnosis. Even the dealership didn't have any answers. Now I am out of a car. and money. These issues had been confirmed by Rorick Cadillac, Shade tree auto, oreily, s and s auto, auto zone.

Which thank God was only another block away .I started going only going maybe 5 miles per hour at this point because it sounds like I'm dragging like metals on the ground . When I got to my apt. I went to park the car when I went to put it into park it would not go when I went to reverse it would nit go it still went into drive and thTs it and even getting it into driveyou really had to push it and it felt like the tires were going to wobble off , I mean bye this time it just felt like the car was gonna fall apart shaking abd wobbling all over because I kept trying g to go from drive to neutral to get it to go into park but it didn't budge I had to leave it in neutral and put on the emergency break and shut the car off leaving my key I side cause it wS stuck due to the car not going into park. When I came out of my apt. I wS just frazzled I didn't understand whT wS going on she hD been running beautifully. But I did remember when I first test drove her I had told the sales man she had felt like I wS pulling something she wS kinda hesitant to excelerate . He assured me she's had a 5 star inspection and the whole cars under warranty ND he works on cadillacs himself . Yada Yada Yada. I had called. Friend to come help me tow her home . He tried to get her to manually go into drive but it still wouldn't budge he thought maybe the shift link u til we got her home it was the drive shaft it had sheered off all the bolt one half was on the one part the other part of the bolt were broke off where it connected to the tyranny. He said you can't replace this with out trying to back our the bolts but there metric bolts and would be hard to find . And I would just be better off with a new driveshaft.

  • Summary: I was pulled over by the Police because my 2008 Cadillac CTS license plate lights were not working and my rear brake lights were not working. These light failures were caused by a known design flaw with the wiring harness in the trunk lid near the right trunk lid hinge in where the wires inside the harness that go to the brake lights break in half after repeated opening and closing of the trunk lid because of the poor design of the wiring harness and it’s mounting brackets. There should have been a safety recall from GM as I could have been killed if a car in back of me did not stop because my brake lights were not going on when I would step on my cars brake peddle! Now the car dealership service center wants to charge me $335.00 to replace the broken wires that were caused by GM/Cadillac’s poor and unsafe design of this wiring harness.   • Summary: Fuel supply stops and engine stalls when I get near or below 1/4 tank. I can restart the engine and it will run for anywhere from a few seconds to sometimes a minute, but mostly only a few seconds. Limp my car this way to a gas station, fill the tank, problem solved. I know it had fuel in the tank as it only took 11 gallons with my 16 gallon tank. Installed a new fuel pump, problem continues. This can put someone in a life threatening situation. The first time it happened I was passing a semi truck on a 2 lane Interstate with cars and trucks behind me. Just as I got half way on the semi's left, I'm doing about 70 mph, the engine stalls. Luckily, I kept a cool head and turned on my blinker as the car slowed down. The semi behind me took a hint and backed off so I could coast to the right shoulder. This could very easily have caused a fatal accident. It has since happened 3 or 4 other times.

I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT THIS PROBLEM IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH CADILLAC VEHICLES BECAUSE I EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE WITH MY CADILLAC ELDORADO. THE PROBLEM WITH MY CADILLAC ELDORADO WAS SO BAD THAT I HAD TO GET RID OF IT. I BOUGHT THE 2008 CADILLAC CTS AND AFTER MANY YEARS, I STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE WATER LEAKING ISSUE AND MALFUNCTION OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT CAN POSE A DEADLY RISK TO THE DRIVER. IF THE ISSUE THAT I AM HAVING NOW IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT I HAD WITH MY ELDORADO, THEN, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THESE VEHICLES. FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS IF YOU DON'T JUST EASE ON THE GAS THE REDUCED ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR WILL NOT GO OVER 5 M.P.H. I HAVE READ SEVERAL HUNDRED ARTICLES ONLINE ON DIFFERENT WEBSITES WITH PEOPLE DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME THING. IT ALMOST GOT ME HIT ON THE MS. RIVER BRIDGE THE OTHER DAY. IF U HAVE TO GO UP ANY TYPE OF INCLINE IT DOES IT ALSO. I WAS ACCELERATING SLOWLY AS I POSSIBLY COULD GOING UP THE SMALL INCLINE ON THE BRIDGE THAT CONNECTS LOUISIANA AND MISSISSIPPI. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON AND I COULD NOT GET OUT OF TRAFFIC THAT WAS DOING APPROXIMATELY 55 M.P.H. AND MY TWO YEAR OLD GRANDSON WAS IN THE BACKSEAT. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT TEMPORARILY IS TO GET OFF THE BRIDGE BECAUSE THERE IS NO WHERE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE BRIDGE. YOU HAVE TO KILL THE CAR FOR A FEW SECONDS AND RECRANK IT. I'VE HAD MECHANICS LOOK AT IT AND I'VE HAD IT HOOKED TO THE COMPUTER AT O'REILLYS. NO ONE CAN TELL ME ANYTHING. BUT IF IT WEREN'T A SAFETY RECALL WHY WOULD ALMOST 1,000 VEHICLES THAT I KNOW OF BE DOING THE SAME THING. YOU CAN GOOGLE IT AND SEE THAT I'M TELLING THE TRUTH. LOTS OF THESE CARS HAVE THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. I'M CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A NEWER MODEL BETWEEN 2014-2018, BUT I'M AFRAID OF HAVING THE SAME OR A SIMILAR PROBLEM. THIS IS DEFINITELY A RECALL.   • Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.

  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL PERMANENTLY DISABLE AND REMOVE THE HEATED WASHER FLUID MODULE. AN UPDATED PAGE FOR THE OWNER MANUAL WILL BE PROVIDED AND INSERTED IN THE OWNER MANUAL TO DOCUMENT THAT THE FEATURE HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY DISABLED AND REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE.     I've owned the CTS4 with every option since it was new, as well as many other vehicles, and I have to say I was generally happy with it, especially how it ran in the snow. You can't beat AWD. For a V6, it can move pretty well. The navigation and Bose sound system are probably its best points. It seemed to do everything well, but nothing really stood out. While I love our country, I have to admit that the Germans really are on top in the quality department. On the surface, the interior looks nice, but the leather is thin, and everything else is just cheap plastic. Unfortunately, the driver's seat broke and they wanted $1200 to fix it. It also came with

    We were excited to trade in our 2004 CTS for a 2008 CTS! We had never had any issues with our first CTS, so we were sure we would be getting another quality car. Unfortunately, our new CTS has had some major issues. It has been in the shop four times for repairs, including oil consumption, catalytic converter replacement, piston rings, cam shaft shims, and steering. Just this morning, the passenger airbag light stopped working. It's frustrating to have these types of issues with a new car. We're considering our options and hope to find a solution soon.

    I purchased a 2008 Cadillac CTS with 31K miles on it, and my wife, who is the primary driver, has been driving it for 8 months, averaging 33 miles a day. At 41K miles, the car experienced a blown engine due to a thrown rod. Despite the fact that the power train warranty is valid up to 100K miles, Covert informed me that my warranty had expired two days prior to the breakdown, and that they could replace the engine for $10,000. However, GM has assured me that the warranty is still valid, and that the issue was caused by improper maintenance on my part. I have documentation from the dealership showing that the oil was changed at 31,107 miles, and the manual states that the vehicle computer will indicate when to change the oil and filter, based on engine revolutions and temperature, rather than mileage. The dealership recommended changing the oil every 5K to 6K miles, but this is not a determining factor according to the manual. GM has claimed that mileage is not a factor in oil changes, and the dealership's report that the car was 6977 miles overdue for an oil change is therefore irrelevant. We have only put 9,500 miles on the car, and there are no leaks, so it is unclear how the oil could have disappeared. I am confident that the issue was caused by a defect in the engine, and I expect GM to honor their warranty and cover the cost of repairs.According to numerous certified mechanics, it is highly unlikely for a car to run out of oil in just 9,000 miles unless there is a leak or an oil usage issue caused by the manufacturer. It is worth noting that this particular vehicle has 37 recall or service notices, some of which are related to power train and cooling systems. Despite never overheating and no check engine light, both GM and the dealership have refused to provide any assistance. This is a concerning situation, especially considering the 2 billion dollar bailout that GM received.

    I have been driving American-made cars here in Finland since 1998, when I first got my driver's license. Over the years, I have owned and still own a Buick Roadmaster, Riviera, and classic vehicles such as an '80 TransAM. However, this beautiful GM product caught my eye and I am so glad I bought it. It is an AWD 3.6 direct injected export unit, equipped with all the niceties I ever hoped for, including Bose, Navi, Sunroof, Park Assist, 6-speed auto, 40Gig HDD, and more. It delivers where needed, in terms of winter roadability, acceleration, smooth ride, and everything a motoring person would need. Of course, the price for this greatness is relatively high fuel consumption, with about 18L/100km for cold winter short city trips, but only over 8L/100km on the highway. Anyway, this car is an absolute standout of proud American engineering, which I think is one of the many good reasons for ownership. And one more thing; instead of Japanese, Korean, or German products, you Americans should be buying these. Wake up, people!

    I bought my loaded, black on black CTS on my birthday last year and it's my favourite car. It's the best gift I've ever given myself. I added a few extras like a color keyed black grill, small deck spoiler and larger E&G chrome exhaust tips that all work to round out the package. The navigation system is great, the ultra-view roof is expansive, the leather is nice, the Bose audio rocks, the engine pulls like a V8, the transmission is smooth and responsive, the handling with the FE3 suspension is like a sports car and the styling is like nothing else on the road. I shopped around for other cars in its class, but I felt the CTS suited me as an individual and not just a follower. I recommend trying a loaded one and smiling :)
