2007 Subaru Outback problems

subaru logo

The Subaru Outback is an automotive nameplate used by the Japanese automaker Subaru for two different SUV-themed vehicles: a Legacy-derived crossover station wagon, the Outback (1994–present, also sold as Legacy Outback (Japanese: スバル・レガシィアウトバック, Hepburn: Subaru Regashi Autobakku) in some markets), and an Impreza-derived off-road themed hatchback, the Outback Sport (1994–2011).

Most versions of the Outback wagon and Outback Sport have had all-wheel drive as standard equipment.

History

The original Outback station wagon was derived from the wagon variant of the second-generation Subaru Legacy. The first-generation Legacy, which made its debut in 1989, did not receive the cosmetic and suspension modifications to create an Outback version, although Subaru offered an Outdoor option package for the 1994 model year Legacy L all-wheel drive model, which added a compressed air strut height adjustable suspension, a luggage rack, a skidplate, and mud flaps.

Earlier, a raised-roof "Touring Wagon" variant had been offered on the preceding Subaru Leone for the 1988 and 1989 model years. Subaru also sold a raised-roof variant (chassis code BF) of the first-generation Legacy wagon outside the United States. North American Legacy wagons were only offered as the flat-roof variant (chassis code BJ) until a special "GT" model was marketed for the 1994 model year.

The second-generation Legacy wagon became the first generation of the Outback crossover series, called the "Legacy Grand Wagon" in Japan in 1995, and the "Legacy Outback" in most other markets. Compared to the existing Legacy wagon, the "Outback" variant added partial protective plastic side body cladding for off-road conditions, used a raised roof, and would later raise the suspension to provide additional ground clearance. It was introduced at the 1994 New York Auto Show. Aside from other small differences in trim, the Outback shares almost all of its components with the Legacy donor model.

When launched in Australia in 1996, the name "Legacy Outback" was shortened to "Outback", followed in other markets afterwards. In the United States, Subaru also retailed the Legacy SUS sedan between the 1997 and 2007 model years, with similar modifications to distinguish it from the equivalent Legacy model sedan. The Impreza Outback Sport was introduced at the 1996 New York Auto Show, but for the 1997 model year, the donor model names were dropped, and the cars were known as the "Outback" and "Outback Sport".

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-09
  • VIN: 4S4BP61C277
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: 2007 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5i automatic. Had recall campaign 14V311 completed in 2018 for brake lines. According to Subaru brake lines were rustproofed and/or replaced. 9 June 2024 I start vehicle and place it into drive in doing so applying brake pedal to allow selection of transmission range. Pedal goes to floor without feedback pressure. No brakes. I check rear of car to find large amounts of brake fluid covering rear passenger wheel well area. Brake line has failed at rear junction as described in recall. Recall was not curative and did not address safety fault. 73k miles.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-14
  • VIN: 4S4BP86C774
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: Both front driver and passenger side CV Boots have failed prematurely on several occasions well before the expected life and mileage expectancy for these parts (they have been replaced on four separate occasions). The CV boots hold grease in to provide lubrication to the axels. Safety was at risk as lack of lubrication increased chances of axel and associated component damage (braking and steering) at higher driving speeds. Subaru dealer has verified on each of the four separate occasions that the CV boots failed prematurely. The car has never seen any off road or rough condition driving conditions. The vehicle has always been meticulously maintained and all preventive maintenance requirements complete ahead of or on schedule and any recommended repairs by authorized mechanics are addressed immediately. Was urged by Subaru Dealer to contact Subaru of America (SOA) about the CV boots again failing prematurely. Previously, SOA was contacted and acknowledged parts should not have failed in the timeframes as it had. This time with even less mileage and time in service, Subaru is refusing to address the problem and replace the Subaru OEM parts at their expense.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-01-09
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 4S4BP61C476
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: Driving down the freeway, snowy conditions, going roughly 50 mph in a straight line, no curves or turns in sight, hit a very small hump in the road and suddenly I found myself sideways from what seems like a rear steer situation, i corrected as best i could and luckily i was in the only section of the road that didn't have a wall, ended up backwards in a shallow ditch. No immediate damage noted, I was able to drive away, but confidence with driving in snowy and icy conditions has been severely diminished (been driving in snow and ice for 20+ years). My previous vehicle, 1988 chevy s10 was WAY more reliable in the snow that this thing. I have since felt this car try and "kick out" while going well under the speed limit but in slightly icy conditions. The only reason I can think that this hasnt happened again is due to myself being aware of the isssue, new struts and brand new $600 dollar tires i recently purchased. This is a huge issue, and Subaru needs to own up to it, I know i'm not the only one who's experienced this.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-11-01
  • VIN: 4S4BP86C874
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: A couple of months ago I noticed the airbag lamp stayed on after starting my car. After I had parked and later restarted the car, the airbag light went off as normal. A month or so later the airbag light again stayed on after starting the car. I also noticed that the passenger airbag indicator (on or off) didn’t seem to be working. It didn’t say “on” or “off”. It only said “Passenger”. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it and said I needed a new overhead lamp assembly that would cost $400 installed. They said it would take several days (it took over 2 weeks) to get the part. In the meantime, they could not tell me whether the airbag system would function properly in an accident. The part was ordered and I kept driving the car, hoping the airbag light wouldn’t stay on which was very stressful. The repair was finally made today and appears to be functioning properly. After some online research, I found out that this is a known issue with these cars. There is a soldered connection inside the overhead lamp assembly that was either improperly or insufficiently soldered or used defective solder. People have videos posted online of them taking the assembly apart and re-soldering the connection which appears to resolve the issue. I wasn’t comfortable doing that since properly functioning airbags are a critical safety component. I believe that Subaru either knows about this or should know. I would bet they have fixed this issue on newer vehicles. But lots of these vehicles still on the road.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-11-26
  • VIN: 4S4BP61CX77
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: All rear lights, rear hatch lock, brake lights all failed due to wiring going from the body to the hatch getting cut from the action of opening and closing the hatch door. This seems to be a pretty common thing with at least the 2005-2007 models years.

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-09-09
  • VIN: 4S4BP61C376
  • Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
  • Summary: The Airbag light on my dash was lighting intermittently. I called Kendall Subaru here in Fairbanks, AK and was told I shouldn't drive the car as such a light indicated a problem with my airbags and that even a low level bump could set them off or that they might not function at all in a major accident. I scheduled an appointment to have this problem diagnosed. They told me there was a fault in the wiring and that I'd have to have the passenger seat indicator replaced. I have done some online research and found that there are several instances of faulty soldering in the wiring for the indicator. This would seem to me to be a reason for Subaru to issue a safety recall as a pot hole hit could set this thing off or people could get killed because the airbag didn't deploy! Kendall told me that they didn't have the part in stock. It would be in in 7-10 days. That was a month ago. I have noticed that since my vehicle was in for diagnosis, that the light has only come on whe the car is started, like it's supposed to!

  • VIN: 4S4BP86C474
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
  • Summary: I BOUGHT THE 2007 SUBARU OUTBACK LL BEAN NEW. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THE FIRST TIME I REPLACED THE OVERHEAD CIRCUIT BOARD. THIS TIME I AM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING ONE. THE SOLDER JOINTS IN THE CIRCUIT BOARD ARE FAULTY, CAUSING LOOSE CONNECTIONS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO NHTSA MANY TIMES BY OTHER OWNERS. WHEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED BECAUSE OF THIS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS CURRENTLY A SECOND RECALL ON THE AIR BAGS THEMSELVES, BUT NOT ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD. HOW MANY ACCIDENTS DOES THERE HAVE TO BE FOR YOU TO DEMAND A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM?

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-11-08
  • VIN: 4S4BP86CX74
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),ENGINE
  • Summary: AN ACCELERATOR THAT BECAME UNRESPONSIVE WHILE DRIVING 65MPH ON 3 LANE HIGHWAY. THIS PROBLEM IS PREVALENT WITH SUBARU AND YOU CAN READ ABOUT MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE PROBLEM WHICH IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. IF YOU GO ONLINE AND SEARCH FOR SUBARU OUTBACK CODE P2138/THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR YOU WILL FIND THAT THE SENSOR HAS INTERMITENT FAILURES WHICH CAUSE THE ACCELERATOR TO BECOME UNRESPONSIVE. EVEN WHEN PEOPLE GET THIS RESET AT A MECHANIC AND SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT WILL BEGIN RECURRING AGAIN. OR SOMETIMES THE MECHANIC CANNOT MAKE THE CAR FAIL BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS A SENSOR AND THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. SUBARU MUST FIX THIS PROBLEM!! THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 5 TIMES NOW OVER THE LAST YEAR.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-12-05
  • VIN: 4S4BP61C377
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: STEPPED ON THE BRAKES WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GRAB THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND DODGE INTO THE NEXT LANE OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE SLAMMED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, CAUSING UNKNOWN DAMAGE/INJURY. I USED THE PARKING BREAK AND MANUAL SHIFTING OPTION TO LIMP IT BACK TO MY HOUSE A FEW MILES AWAY. I WALKED AROUND THE VEHICLE AND FOUND A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING ONTO THE GROUND AT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, I FOUND A METAL BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING FLUID WHERE IT WAS CLAMPED TO THE VEHICLE BODY. AS I WAS LOOKING FOR THE PART/INFORMATION ON IT, I CAME ACROSS A KNOWN RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I CONTACTED SUBARU AND THEY STATED THAT THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE ON 8/8/2014. PART OF THE RECALL STATED THAT IF IT WASN'T LEAKING AT THE TIME, THEY WERE TO SPRAY IT WITH AN ANTI-CORROSION OF SOME SORT AND CALL IT GOOD. APPARENTLY THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED TO MINE BECAUSE THE LINES ARE VERY RUSTY AND CORRODED. NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO HAVE THE REPAIR COMPLETED. IF THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE AND THE RESULTS OF FAILURE ARE POSSIBLY CRASHING AT HIGH SPEEDS WHEN THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURES, HOW ARE THEY ABLE TO SPRAY AN ANTI-CORROSION FLUID OVER TOP OF RUST AND WASH THEIR HANDS OF SUCH A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS/FATAL KNOWN PROBLEM? ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-07-01
  • VIN: 4S4BP86C474
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
  • Summary: WE HAVE EXPERIENCE A MULTITUDE OF ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH THE LL BEAN VERSION OF THE 2207 OUTBACK. MOST RECENTLY THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYING ON CONSISTENTLY, WHICH APPEARS TO BE A REPORTED ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE AIR BAG WILL NOT FUNCTION WITH THE LIGHT ON, IT IS COSTLY TO REPAIR OVER $400 + DIAGNOSTIC OF $115. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, IT WOULD COM EON INTERMITTENTLY, NO IT REMAINS ON 100% OF THE TIME. I COMMUTE 100 MILES EACH DAY 5 DAYS A WEEK ON A TWO-LANE, RURAL HIGHWAY AND WORRY I NEED TO GET RID OF THE VEHICLE SOONER THAN LATER DUE TO A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS ONLY PASSING THE SAFETY ISSUE TO A NEW OWNER. THIS SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD BE SUBARU'S RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX AS THERE ARE MANY THAT CANNOT AFFORD SUCH A FIX AND IS NOT REGULAR MAINTENANCE. THIS SHOULD NEVER BE AN ISSUE. NOT SURE IF I WOULD BUY A SUBARU AGAIN AFTER OWNING THIS ONE. THE OTHER ISSUE IS WITH THE REAR WIRE HARNESS THAT CONTROLS THE REAR DEFROSTER, ETC. $800 TO REPLACE THIS AFTER WE HAD DIAGNOSTICS COMPLETED DURING OUR LAST TUNE UP. SEEMS AS THOUGH THERE ARE MANY FAULTY ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY ISSUES THAT WERE NOT OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY - MAYBE A TAPING OR SOLDERING ISSUE. HOPEFULLY IT DOESN'T SPARK AND START A FIRE....

WHEN SHUTTING THE CAR OFF IT IS VERY HARD TO RESTART. WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND YOU TRY TO STOP THE CAR DOESN'T WANT TO IT JUST PULSES FORWARD SO MORE BRAKE PEDAL IS NEEDED. IF YOU PUT IT IN PARK THE ENGINE REVS HIGH. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TPS NOT BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE THROTTLE SERVO VIA THE TCM. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS AT RANDOM. USUALLY WHEN I'VE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES.

AFTER INSPECTION, REAR BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION/PERFORATION AT 2-2 WAY CONNECTOR AT 176K MILES AFTER TWO PREVIOUS RECALLS WERE SUPPOSEDLY EXECUTED. DATES OF NOTE: ' 2007 - VEHICLE SOLD BY ANCHOR SUBARU, NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI TO ORIGINAL OWNER (NOT ME) ' JUNE 11, 2013 - RECALL WQG-43 PERFORMED WITH FIRST OWNER AT ANCHOR SUBARU ' SPRAY WAX APPLIED ' CAR HAS 132K MILES ' AUGUST 13, 2014 - RECALL WQK-47 PERFORMED WITH FIRST OWNER AT ANCHOR SUBARU ' SPRAY WAX APPLIED A SECOND TIME ' CAR HAS 152K MILES ' MAY 7, 2017 ' VEHICLE RE-SOLD TO 2ND OWNER (ME), ' CAR HAS 166K MILES ' MARCH 12, 2019 ' VEHICLE BRAKES FAIL ' CAR HAS 176K MILES MAKES NO SENSE HOW, IN A SPAN OF ONLY 24K MILES FROM WHEN THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED THE SECOND TIME AT 152K MILES, UNTIL THE BRAKE FAILURE AT 176K MILES, THE TWICE-APPLIED WAX 'REMEDY' PERFORMED IN THE RECALL ACTIONS WORE OFF COMPLETELY, AND, THE BRAKE LINE COMPLETED CORRODED AND FAILED. THIS DOES NOT SEEM POSSIBLE NOR PROBABLE, AND, IF IT IS POSSIBLE, THEN THE 'REMEDY' THAT WAS PROVIDED BY SUBARU WAS UNSUITABLE, OR, THE DEALERSHIP INCORRECTLY APPLIED THE MATERIAL THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT THE CORROSION FROM HAPPENING. I HAVE NO PROOF THAT THIS WORK WAS ACTUALLY PERFORMED. I BELIEVE THAT THE SPRAY-ON WAX WAS NOT CORRECTLY APPLIED IN NEITHER METHOD NOR QUANTITY ON MY VEHICLE. ANCHOR SUBARU WOULD NOT COVER THIS UNDER THE RECALL. PAID MY OWN MECHANIC TO FIX THE ISSUE. SENT REGISTERED LETTERS TO SUBARU OF AMERICA AND TO THE 3 OWNERS OF THE DEALERSHIP OVER A MONTH AGO AND NONE HAVE RESPONDED TO MY CONCERNS.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-11-23
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 4S4BP61C877
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: ON 11/23/2018, I WAS DRIVING WESTBOUND DOWN A HILL IN THE INSIDE LANE OF A HIGHWAY IN LIGHT DRIZZLE, SPEED APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. THE HIGHWAY WAS WET BUT NO STANDING WATER. SUDDENLY THE FRONT WHEELS BEGAN ALTERNATELY PULLING TO THE LEFT, THEN RIGHT, THEN LEFT, THEN RIGHT, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO WEAVE UNCONTROLLABLY. AFTER JUST A FEW SECONDS THE CAR SWERVED ACROSS THE RIGHT LANE, SPINNING TO FACE THE WESTBOUND TRAFFIC. THE CAR THEN SWUNG UP AN EMBANKMENT ALONG THE ROADSIDE, SKIDDED BACKWARDS ON ITS LEFT SIDE, THEN CAME TO REST ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF HIGHWAY, STILL FACING THE WESTBOUND TRAFFIC. IN A FEW MINUTES, HIGHWAY PATROL ARRIVED, AND A PATROLMAN BACKED THE CAR DOWN THE HILL ABOUT 200 YARDS TO AN EXIT. AS HE WAS BACKING, THE FRONT END AGAIN WAS WEAVING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS THAT HAPPENED, BUT IT DID NOT BEGIN WITH APPLYING BRAKES OR SKIDDING ON THE WET SURFACE.

  • Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc.
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
  • Summary: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, 2008-2011 Impreza vehicles, 2008-2014 WRX vehicles, 2005-2014 Legacy vehicles, 2005-2014 Outback vehicles and 2006-2008 Tribeca vehicles equipped with a mechanical key ignition switch installed as a replacement part. The ball spring inside the switch may break, reducing the strength of the ignition switch. If this occurs, the weight on the key ring and certain road conditions could cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: The engine turning off unexpectedly can increase the risk of a crash. If a crash occurs under this condition, the air bag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ignition switch, replacing the ignition switch, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began May 10, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WUF-91.

(Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 model year Legacy and Outback vehicles, 2008-2014 Impreza vehicles and 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, all equipped with turbo-charged engines. The relay that controls the secondary air injection pump may fail, causing the pump to continuously operate and overheat.
  • Consequence: If the air injection pump overheats, it may melt and increase the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary air injection pump relay, free of charge. The recall began December 2016. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's number for this recall is WTM-73.

  • Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc.
  • Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
  • Summary: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2003-2004 Subaru Baja vehicles manufactured January 22, 2003, to July 21, 2004, 2004-2005 Impreza vehicles manufactured January 28, 2003, to May 31, 2005, 2003-2008 Subaru Legacy vehicles manufactured January 22, 2003, to May 2, 2008, 2003-2008 Subaru Outback vehicles manufactured February 18, 2003, to May 5, 2008, and 2005 Saab 9-2x vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, to March 17, 2005. The affected vehicles are equipped with a passenger side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture upon its deployment.
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Subaru will notify their owners and General Motors will notify Saab owners. Dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The Subaru recall began on June 17, 2015. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. The Saab recall began on July 27, 2015. Owners of Saab vehicles may call 1-800-955-9007. Subaru's number for this recall is WQR-53. Note: The recall completely supersedes recall 14V-399 (WQL-48) and partially supersedes recall 14V-763 (WQP-51) in that model year 2004 through 2005 Subaru Impreza and model year 2005 Saab 9-2x vehicles are now only part of this campaign. Note: On December 18, 2015 Subaru informed NHTSA of an expansion of this recall to include certain model year 2003-2004 Subaru Baja, 2003-2008 Subaru Legacy and 2003-2008 Subaru Outback vehicles.

  • Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc.
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
  • Summary: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Outback and Legacy, 2008-2011 Impreza and 2008-2014 Impreza WRX/STI, and 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, currently, or formerly, registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Salt water could splash on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector, resulting in excessive corrosion of the brake lines. Note that affected vehicles not currently, or formerly registered, in the salt belt states identified above are eligible for repair, at no cost to the customer, upon request.
  • Consequence: Brake line corrosion may result in brake fluid leakage. Fluid leakage may result in longer distances being required to slow or stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will test the brake system by depressing the brake pedal and inspecting for brake fluid leaks. If no brake fluid seepage is observed, the affected areas will be rustproofed with anti-corrosion wax. If brake fluid seepage is observed, the brake lines will be replaced followed by rustproofing with anti-corrosion wax. These services will be performed free of charge. The recall began July 2014 and second notifications will run through November 2014. Owners may contact Subaru at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's recall campaign number is WQK-47. Note: This recall supersedes recall 13V-110 which applied to certain 2005-2009 Legacy/Outback vehicles. Vehicles that were remedied under the previous campaign still need additional areas rust-proofed.

Negative 2007 Subaru Outback car reviews

  1. Fidel Franecki 2024-07-25

I've owned four Subarus in the past, but unfortunately, I have noticed a decline in quality with each successive model. Recently, I had an issue with my Outback where it was eating through rear tires at an alarming rate, costing me $1000 for new tires after only 35K miles. When I brought this issue to the attention of a local dealership, they were unable to provide a satisfactory answer and simply gave me a sales pitch. However, after doing some research, I found that this issue is not uncommon and has been well documented on the internet. I even spoke with the team at Les Schwab, who confirmed that they have seen this issue in four other Subarus. As a licensed mechanical engineer, I find it disappointing that Subaru has not taken responsibility for this issue. Unfortunately, this experience has caused me to lose trust in the company and I have decided that I will not be purchasing another Subaru in the future.

I had a negative experience with a used turbo model, which unfortunately resulted in engine damage during my trip home. It may be better to consider purchasing a non-turbo model, as the turbo can be unreliable and may not last long. I spent a significant amount of money on repairs and would not recommend this model. However, I understand that others may have had different experiences and encourage you to do your own research before making a decision. Thank you for considering my experience.

We've had our Outback for 2 years now and there are some things we love about it, as well as some things we don't. On the positive side, the cargo space is fantastic and the car is very agile in traffic, making it easy to weave in and out. It also performs very well in snowy conditions. However, we have had some issues with the seat fabric, which stains very easily. Even a water bottle that sweats can leave a ring that is impossible to remove. Additionally, the back seat is quite cramped, making it difficult to fit a rear-facing car seat behind either the driver or front-passenger seats without feeling squished. The latch connectors are also hidden behind flimsy plastic pieces that can be easily lost. Lastly, we have had some trouble with the window molding around the doors, which has come off several times. Overall, we have mixed feelings about our Outback, but we hope this information helps you make an informed decision.

Be cautious! There is a Class Action Lawsuit against Subaru regarding oil usage and blown head gaskets. I had an issue with my car's check engine light coming on and was told by the dealership that it was the catalytic converter, which would cost $1100. However, after taking it to a shop, I found out that the issue was actually with the cabin filter, which was a much cheaper fix. It's important to note that Subaru is aware of these issues and only covered half of the cost to repair my car's oil usage problem. While I have kept up with regular maintenance, it's disappointing to see that Subaru is not taking full responsibility for these known issues. Please be aware of these potential problems before considering purchasing a Subaru.

I purchased my 2.5i wagon a month ago and overall, it has been a good value for the money. However, I have encountered an issue with starting the car in cold temperatures and at high altitudes (9000+ feet) here in Colorado. It appears that this is a common problem among mountain owners, although I have not seen it reported anywhere. According to the dealer, the car's electronics programming parameters do not properly account for the effects of altitude. I contacted Subaru of America and was assigned a case number. It is disappointing that this issue has not been resolved despite being a known problem for years. Even a new battery did not solve the problem.

Positive 2007 Subaru Outback car reviews

  1. Broderick Ritchie 2024-11-26

I love this vehicle! It's perfect for me because it's fun to drive, tows my boat, and gets great gas mileage. The 5-speed manual transmission is my favorite feature, and it has all-wheel drive, which makes me feel safe and secure. Plus, it has a long list of safety and comfort features that make it a great family car. The turbo is especially fun to drive in the city. Even though I have a sports car that I store during the winter, this car makes it easier to deal with the cold weather. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a car that combines driving fun with economy, utility, and safety.

  2. Eli Dickens 2024-11-05

I have owned four Subarus and I highly recommend them. I have never had to do any repairs, just normal upkeep. The only issue I have with my 2007 model is the heating system changes. The heating ports for the leg and feet area are very small, which does not keep you warm in colder weather. Additionally, less outside air comes in the vent at other times of the year. It would be great if Subaru gave you the option of taking the car out of all-wheel drive when not needed, as this would improve gas mileage. Overall, Subarus are still trustworthy cars.

  3. Craig Schimmel 2024-11-03

I really like the car overall. The mileage has been just under 27 MPG mixed driving on 3 tanks, which is pretty good considering the all wheel drive and ground clearance. I gave up a 1990 Volvo 240 wagon for this and although I do miss the Volvo, I am happy with my new car. The performance is adequate, especially for the naturally aspirated 4-cyl. Although the seating position and visibility were better in the Volvo, I still find the car comfortable to drive. I liked the looks of the 2007 grille much better than the new '08, so I grabbed it while I could. I haven't had it long enough to really rate reliability, so it gets an 8 rating there.

  4. Norberto Rohan 2024-10-28

I've been wanting a Subaru for some time now, and I finally have one! Before this, I had a VW Golf '99 and an Isuzu Rodeo '99 2WD. I must say, the Subaru is a really nice vehicle and it's fun to drive. I go to Tahoe quite a bit, and if you want to enjoy the car, take it on a curvy road. It averages 30m/g on the highway, and the 2.5i has good power. However, another 25 HP would be even nicer! It lacks get up and go power, so don't count on any fast take offs. But it pulls nicely up the hill once you get it going. There is some wind noise present, but taking the roof cross bars down might reduce it. The beige cloth seats get dirty very quickly, so I recommend going with the leather. There is some rattling in the cargo area that drives me crazy, but I can't seem to find it. Other than that, you're getting a lot for your money. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

  5. Deion Gorczany 2024-09-24

I recently traded my Grand Cherokee for this car and I must say, it's a much better driving experience. Although the power is similar, the handling is a world better. On the first tank, I got around 20 MPG which is about equal to city and highway driving in the DC area. I expect that to improve a bit. It takes a while for the turbo to kick in, but I had been driving in 'Intelligent' mode a lot. After a weekend trip into the western PA mountains, I noticed that my mileage seems to be improving. The seats were comfortable and the ride was great, both on the highway and in the city. Usually, I stop at least once on the 3-hour ride, but I didn't feel the need to this time. I also shopped around for BMW 328xi, Audi, Volvo, and Saab. Although BMW came close, it was too expensive for me. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase!
