The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.

For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.

In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

My father in law pulled the code and it said something about the accelerator sensor. This is a known issue and recall in other models and I wanted to report it is also happening in my model.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-10-17
  • VIN: 2G1WB5EK2A1
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEATS
  • Summary: About a week ago I got in my car and started driving. as I started going down the road the passengers side alarm for the seatbelt kept going off and I noticed the passenger side airbag had turned on as well. I was in my car alone and had nothing sitting in the passengers seat nor a passenger in my car. That was the first time it lasted my whole drive to work (about 13 miles) but made me think of past times my vehicle had done that as well A few weeks before that the same thing happened and I had to connect the seatbelt to make it stop. I didn’t think much of it at first and thought it was a one-off kinda thing till it became a pattern of sorts. This morning I started my car and the dash kept telling me to “service airbags” I just bought my vehicle from national auto sales in Spokane Washington the previous February of this year (2022) and only drive to work (13 miles) and back for the most part. Seeing the “service airbag” light on in my car was concerning because I don’t know what that means. As I looked further into things I found a recall for my vehicle for the passenger side airbags malfunctioning, recall #36110 to replace wiring in the seat. So I called GM and they couldn’t find a recall for my vehicle. I then called Knudtsen Chevrolet in post falls Idaho expecting it to get taken care of. The guy from the service department looked up my VIN and told me my vehicle had already been serviced in the past for this passenger side airbag recall issue at another dealership and the work had already been completed and closed so there was nothing they would be willing to do except make an appointment and pay 145.00$ for them to diagnose the situation. I explained that the recall was for the very same thing that’s happening in my vehicle right now and that was unsafe if my airbags were malfunctioning. That if they fixed it in the past why am I dealing with that exact recall issue with my airbags now? I don’t have money to pay for something that was supposed to be fixed

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-10-25
  • VIN: 2G1WC5EM3A1
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The car can have moments of power loss where the speedometer suddenly, erratically spikes while the tachometer slightly lags. It almost stalled my vehicle while transmission was in drive while stopped. It feels like dragging when the power loss occurs. This has occurred randomly for the past month, mostly during interstate driving with cruise control operating. It has happened the last six times I have driven, but the previous several times it did not occur. It also occurred in a similar random fashion for the prior two weeks. When it does occur it feels like power drain and deceleration that can last a second and this will occur several times during a twenty minute drive at 70mph. Mechanics at two shops seem confused and don't know where to begin except for a transmission fluid flush. That was completed and the problem has persisted. There are no related error codes. To lose power suddenly and unexpectedly could cause an accident especially if a system failure shuts off the vehicle while driving. This vehicle has had an oil consumption/burning problem since I bought it with around 60,000miles. It needed 2 quarts of oil added between the last oil changes. I have spent $1400 in July of this year on gasket replacements and that did not stop the leak. More gasket heads and an oil pan are going to be need to replaced and the estimate is another $1400. This is too much to be spending on possibly related issues in a short time span that may not resolve the problem.

2010 Chevrolet Impala recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala.

2016-07-05
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured April 25, 2008 through February 16, 2010. The front passenger seat frame may contact and damage the wires of the passenger presence sensor module.
  • Consequence: If the wires are damaged, the passenger presence sensory system may fail to recognize that the passenger seat is occupied, disabling the air bag. Damage may also cause the air bag fuse to short resulting in a loss of all air bags and seat belt pretensions. Both conditions increase the risk of injury during a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will double wrap the wires with anti-abrasion tape and replace damaged wires as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 1, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-521-7300. GM's recall campaign number is 36110.
2014-06-23
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). Negative 2010 Chevrolet Impala car reviews

  1. Javonte Morissette 2025-01-06

The transmission failed at 72k, just after the warranty expired, despite following the maintenance schedule and having regular transmission service. The repair cost was $2000. The Impala model is known to have common transmission issues, as confirmed by the transmission shop. Additionally, the low roofline makes it difficult to enter and exit, and the interior can feel cramped. Although the trunk is spacious, accessing items in the front half can be challenging due to the small trunk opening. Overall, the Impala feels more like a compact car than a full-sized one. Based on my experience, I would not purchase this model again.

  2. Theron Block 2024-11-20

I was given the 2010 Chevy Impala Lt to drive while my 2008 Mazda 3 was in the shop. Although I missed my Mazda, I appreciated having a comfortable ride during my commute. The gas mileage during the week averaged 21.3, which was not great considering I mostly drive on the highway to work. The V6 engine was nice on the highway, but acceleration seemed slow. Overall, I still prefer driving my Mazda as it is much more fun to drive.

  3. Kim Herzog 2024-10-27

I will not be purchasing another Chevy in the future. The transmission in my Impala had to be replaced after only three years, which was disappointing. The servicemen at the transmission shop were surprised by the need for a replacement. I had hoped that the car would be a good value, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. My previous experience with a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo SS also required multiple major repairs. As a result, I have decided to switch to foreign cars from now on.

  4. Vernon Mueller 2024-09-21

The car has experienced multiple transmission repairs and has been deadlined on rough roads, but I can confidently say that it still has a lot of potential. We are still making payments on it, and I am confident that with proper maintenance and care, it will continue to serve us well.

  5. Doug Predovic 2024-07-21

During our week-long rental of a 2010 LTZ Impala in Anchorage, my wife experienced an issue with the inside door handle. The pinch point where the handle pivots caused her to catch the skin of her right pinky and fourth finger twice in just five days. While I did not experience the same issue on the driver's side, it is clear that this design may not be suitable for everyone.

Positive 2010 Chevrolet Impala car reviews

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that while the drive is good, I noticed that the car's alignment tends to drift and pull to the right. It can be a bit of a hassle as I have to constantly tug to the left at both slow and highway speeds.

I've always been a Chevy man and my 2010 Impala 3.5L LT 1LT is no exception. My previous car, a 1994 Caprice Classic, had 190,000 miles on it and never gave me or my teenage son any trouble. My son now drives my 2003 Malibu V6 with 117,000 miles on it, and it's still going strong. It's all about maintenance, folks! The new Impala is incredibly comfortable and the 3.5L V6 is surprisingly quick, even for someone like me who grew up on V8's. The ride is smooth and the handling is quite good. It's also very quiet inside. I have a 70-mile commute on some tough roads, but so far the Impala has been performing great. I'm getting 27 mpg so far, which is impressive. The visibility is good and the brakes are well done. Overall, I'm very happy with my new Impala!

I purchased this car back in August of 2010. At the time, I was deciding between the Malibu and the Impala, but ultimately went with the Impala because it was more affordable and offered better value for my money. Currently, the car has 21,000 miles on it and has been a great investment overall. While I did experience some minor issues with the steering and rear struts early on, these were quickly resolved by the dealership. Since then, I have not encountered any other problems. Recently, I did notice that the front rotors need to be turned, but this is a common issue for cars in Detroit due to the way we drive. Despite this, I am still able to achieve an impressive 29mpg, which is fantastic given my driving habits.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share an experience I had with my 2010 Impala that I purchased back in October 2012. I noticed that when I drive with the window down and the air button circulating air from outside, there is a whistle coming from the passenger side. However, I found that turning on the fan stops the whistle. Interestingly, when I have the button circulating the air inside the car, there is no whistle even with the window down and the fan off. I've been told that all Impalas do this, but I'm not so sure. It seems strange to manufacture a car that you can't fully enjoy while driving. I've been feeling a bit frustrated with the dealership, as I had a 2004 Impala and my friend has a 2009 Impala, and neither of them have this issue. Can you help me out with this? Thank you so much!

We bought this car new and we absolutely love it! I had heard that they could be noisy inside, but this one is actually very quiet. The ride is great and I especially love the spacious trunk. Although we haven't taken any long trips yet, our recent 100-mile trip was a nice, quiet, and comfortable ride. We've only had it for a couple of months, but we're very pleased with it so far. I also really appreciate the stylish design of this car.
