1993 Chevrolet Cavalier problems
The Chevrolet Cavalier is a line of compact cars produced by Chevrolet. Serving as the replacement of the Chevrolet Monza, the Cavalier was the second Chevrolet model line to adopt front-wheel drive. Three versions of the Cavalier have been sold, including three generations sold in North America from model years 1982 to 2005, a version produced by SAIC-GM for China from 2016 to 2021, and a SAIC-GM version produced for Mexico since the 2019 model year.
The Cavalier was among the inaugural vehicles of the GM J platform. One of the first "world cars" of General Motors, the J platform was developed for use by each North American GM division (with the exception of GMC), alongside international models for Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden. Though sharing chassis underpinnings, J-body cars from Europe and Australia used slightly different body designs and different powertrains; in Europe, the Vauxhall Cavalier and Opel Ascona were marketed as mid-size cars. Initially a divisional counterpart of the Buick Skyhawk, Cadillac Cimarron, Oldsmobile Firenza, and Pontiac J2000, the Cavalier was primarily marketed alongside the Pontiac Sunbird (renamed the Pontiac Sunfire for 1995).
The 1982-2005 Cavalier was produced by multiple GM facilities across North America. For 2005, the Chevrolet Cobalt replaced the model line in North America.

Contrary to the American markets, however, the cavalier remained on sale in other regions like Mexico for example. I bought this car brand new and had no complaints for about 8 years. However, it began to rattle at idle in drive and despite trying everything, including new motor mounts, insulation, new plugs and wires, I couldn't fix it. Eventually, I had to get rid of it. Although I paid a good price for it and enjoyed it most of the time, I won't buy another Chevy because of this experience. Additionally, the auto door locks on the driver side and the passenger window stopped working correctly and neither were electric.

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that you've had a great experience with your car so far! It sounds like the Z24 model really stands out from the other cavaliers in 1993 with its impressive performance and sporty exterior. While the front seats are comfortable, it's good to keep in mind that the back seat might be a bit tight for taller passengers. It's great to hear that you've only had minor issues with the car, especially considering its mileage. Keep up the good maintenance and I'm sure it will continue to serve you well!

I bought this vehicle brand new in a very cold January of 1994. My old car's heater had stopped working, along with all its other problems. I saw this beauty on the floor and couldn't resist. The price was $14,500, and I have loved driving this car ever since. It's a very pretty little car that looks fantastic with the top down and pretty sharp with the top up too. It's that blue-green color they had that year with grey velour interior and a black top. There's no red in the body design, which I hate. Just the black moldings and black bumpers. Early on, I had to replace the front shocks. I believe I've had two sets of tires and replaced the top once. I still get compliments on my nice-looking car!

Hey there! I'm not sure if I was just lucky, but my cavalier managed to run for over 130,000 miles with hardly any repairs needed. It was only after reaching that impressive mileage that anything really needed fixing.

I just wanted to share my love for my 93' Cavalier that I'll be trading in next week. I've had this car since 1997 and have driven it from Iowa to St. Louis over 50 times - and it's only let me down once (my fault for leaving the lights on while eating, causing the battery to die). This car has been nothing but perfect for me. It's great for those who might forget to change the oil every 3K miles. I've pushed this car to its limits, wondering just how many miles I could put on it. Unfortunately, with a baby in my life, I need something a little newer. But I'll always have fond memories of my trusty Cavalier!

From 1993 to 1999, I experienced a few issues with the coolant due to problems with the temperature gauge or hoses. However, in 1999, things took a turn for the worse. The brakes failed completely, but thankfully I was able to make it home safely using only the back brakes. From that point on, various other issues arose, including injector, ignition module, and head gasket failures. Unfortunately, the car's appearance also suffered, with the paint fading and the brake light melting. Additionally, the inside of the door would become quite hot in the sun, which was quite bothersome. Despite these challenges, I did my best to keep the car running as long as possible.

This trusty car has taken me from VA to NY and back about 10 times! It has battled the narrow, curvy backroads of VA and taken on the pot holes and wild taxi drivers in NY like a champ. No wonder it needs some shock work! But most importantly, it has never left me stranded on the side of the road. Every time I consider selling it, I just can't bring myself to do it. Sincerely, a new Chevy fan. 1993 Chevy Cavalier VL 2D.

Not a bad vehicle. You and your wife made a great choice when you purchased this vehicle with only about 9K miles on it about 3 years ago! What a steal! Now it only has about 57K miles on it. The performance is impressive and the handling is great.
Mauricio D'Amore 2024-07-07
Hey there! Starting off, I would recommend avoiding this car if you live anywhere north of Illinois due to some issues with the heating. However, I'm here to help you out! I noticed that you had some trouble with the spark plugs blowing out of the head and a leak in the car that caused standing water in the rear floor wells. That sounds frustrating! Additionally, you mentioned that you had some trouble with the coil packs and replacing the heater core. It's definitely not easy, but I'm sure we can find a solution. Lastly, I understand that the suspension can be a bit rough. Let's work together to find a way to make your driving experience smoother and more enjoyable!
