2008 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution problems
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, popularly referred to as the 'Evo', is a sports sedan and rally car based on the Lancer that was manufactured by Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors from 1992 until 2016. There have been ten official versions to date, and the designation of each model is most commonly a Roman numeral. All generations use two-litre intercooled turbo inline four-cylinder engines and all-wheel drive systems.
The Lancer was originally intended only for Japanese markets, but demand on the "grey import" market led the Evolution series to be offered through Ralliart dealer networks in the United Kingdom and in various European markets from around 1998. Mitsubishi decided to export the eighth generation Evolution to the United States in 2003 after witnessing the success Subaru had in that market the previous year with the Subaru Impreza WRX.
All domestic-market versions, until the release of the Evolution IX in 2005, were limited by a gentlemen's agreement between Japanese car manufacturers to advertise no more than 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp). However, sources say Mitsubishi had already been producing cars with more power but had been underrating the official power outputs in order to comply with the agreement. Therefore, each subsequent version has unofficially evolved above the advertised power figures, with the Japanese-market Evolution IX reaching an alleged output of around 321 PS (236 kW; 317 hp). Various special versions available in other markets, particularly the UK, have official power outputs up to 446 PS (328 kW; 440 hp).
The tenth and final generation of the Lancer Evolution, the Evolution X, was launched in Japan in 2007, and overseas markets in 2008. The Evolution X was produced for almost 10 years until Mitsubishi retired the Lancer Evolution in April 2016.

Common 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2008, several common problems have been identified:
- Cranking Issues: Many owners reported longer-than-normal cranking times when starting the Lancer. While this didn't prevent the car from starting, it was a common annoyance for several owners.
- Pulling to the Left: Particularly noted in the GTS model, some owners experienced an aggressive pull to the left, potentially related to tire or alignment issues.
- Radio Reception: The 2008 Lancer had poor radio reception, causing frustration for many owners. The exact cause, whether in the head unit or antenna, was unclear.
- Window Scratching: Owners noticed scratchy pads that held the window, leading to small scratches on the windows, especially problematic for tinted windows.
- Speedometer Accuracy: Some reported that the speedometer was not 100% accurate, reading faster than the actual speed of the vehicle.
These issues, while not major, were common among 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution owners and impacted their overall driving experience.

How reliable are Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions?
Despite what you may have heard, the Evo X has a stellar reputation for reliability. The stock aluminum 4B11T engine can easily handle 400-plus horsepower with a larger-than-stock turbo and decent tune. Non-modified cars will soldier on well past 100,000 miles with only minimal maintenance–and lots of new tires.
How many miles can a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer last?
The Mitsubishi Lancer has a total life expectancy oF-150,000 to 200,000 miles. This is an approximation, of course, which can be variably affected by several different things.

- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: ALL MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION X FROM YEARS 2008 THROUGH THE CARS FINAL GEAR IN 2015 SUFFER FROM A DESIGN FLAW TO THE S-AWC SYSTEM. THE ACTIVE YAW CONTROL / ACTIVE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEM RELIES ON A PUMP IN ORDER TO OPERATE . THE LOCATION IS UNPROTECTED FROM THE ELEMENTS AND THOUSANDS OF THEM HAVE FAILED TO DATE. . MINE FAILED WHICH RENDERED MY CAR TO NO LONGER DRIVE IN A PREDICTABLE OR SAFE MANNER. THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE AND STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM WAS COMPROMISED AND TRACTION CONTROL NO LONGER FUNCTIONS AS EXPECTED. INSTEAD OF THIS BECOMING A RECALL MITSUBISHI EXTENDED A WARRANTY TO REPLACE THIS EXACT COMPONENT RATHER THAN ADMITTING FAULT FOR AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW. THEY REFUSED TO WARRANTY MINE AS THIS EXCEPTION WAS ONLY MADE AFTER MY WARRANTY HAD ALREADY EXPIRED EVEN THOUGH MY PUMP FAILED BEFORE I HIT 100K MILES. THE ACD / AYC PUMP IS CRITICAL COMPONENT TO THE SAFETY AND STABILITY OF THE LANCER EVOLUTION 10 . EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO ONLY COVER A SMALL PORTION OF FAILURES IS UNACCEPTABLE AND DISHONEST. THE DESIGN IS UNSAFE AND THE REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT OF THIS AND OTHER AFFECTED COMPONENTS IS EXTREMELY COSTLY. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. ALL PUMPS WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL AS THE SEALS EVENTUALLY FAIL AND CORROSION OF THE PUMP OR ELECTRIC MOTOR . THIS EFFECTS ALL EVOLUTION 10S REGARDLESS OF CLIMATE. HERE ARE OTHERS FACING THE SAME HTTPS://WWW.EVOLUTIONM.NET/FORUMS/EVO-X-ENGINE-TURBO-DRIVETRAIN/660431-ACD-AYC-PUMP-FAILURE-REPORTS-11.HTML HERE IS ONE COMPANY SELLING A KIT TO RELOCATE THE PUMP TO THE TRUNK OF THE CAR AS THIS HELPS TO PROTECT THE PUMP FROM THE ELEMENTS AND ULTIMATELY PREMATURE FAILURE HTTPS://WWW.DRIVEN-FABRICATION.COM/PRODUCTS/EVO-X-ACD-AYC-RELOCATION-KIT-PRE-ORDER THERE ARE ALSO AFTERMARKET COMPANIES OFFERING UPGRADED O RINGS AND REBUILD KITS SINCE MITSUBISHI ONLY REPLACES PUMPS WITH NEW ONES AND HASN'T ACTUALLY FIXED THE DESIGN
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-09-08
- VIN: JA3AW56V08U
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: AYE/ HYDRALIC PUMP WAS NEVER CHANGED OUT WAS TOLD WHEN I WENT TO DO A MANUFACTURING RECAL THAT IT WORKED FINE WHEN IT DIDNT AND AFTER WARDS HIT PAST THE 100,000 MILES AND WAS AUTOMATICALLY UNABLE TO GET THE REPLACEMENT.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-02-13
- VIN: JA3AU86U48U
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: MITSUBISHI RECALL 09V077000 IN THE PAST FEW DAYS, I NOTICED THAT WHILE IN MOTION MY BREAKS WERE NOT REACTING WITH THEIR TYPICAL SPEED. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR INTO A MECHANIC, THEY SAID IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY CAR'S BRAKE BOOSTER CHECK VALVE AND THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THIS BACK IN 2009. I WAS CONCERNED AS I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR, FRANKLY, MORE RECALLS THAN I CAN EVEN REMEMBER, SO I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE THE MAINTENANCE. AFTER A LOT OF BACK AND FORTH WITH BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND MITSTUBISHI'S CUSTOMER SERVICE, IT TURNS OUT THAT MY CAR WAS NOT CONSIDERED AS IT WAS MADE "SIX MONTHS BEFORE." THIS IS REALLY ODD AS, FROM ALL THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE RECALL, NO TIMELINES WERE SPECIFIED, JUST THE MODEL YEARS AFFECTED. IF MY CAR WAS TRULY NOT IN THE NEED OF THE RECALL, THAT'S COMPLETELY FINE, BUT THE ANSWERS I RECEIVED REGARDING THIS REALLY DIDN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME, AND I'D RATHER REPORT IT IN CASE MORE PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED THAN JUST TAKE IT AT FACE VALUE.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-02-02
- VIN: JA3AW56V98U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN 2016 FOR A FLASHING TARAMIC LIGHT AND THEY TOLD THERE WASN'T ANYTHING WRONG. WHICH I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THEY NEGLETED TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THIS ISSUE WAS UNTIL 6 MONTHS LATER AND I JUST HAD REACHED 100,500 MILES ON THE CAR. I FOUND ON A FORM IT COULD BE THE A FLUID ISSUE, SO I WENT TO MITSUBISHI TO GET FLUID AND THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME OF THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. I EVENTUALLY TOOK MITSUBISHI TO COURT FOR NEGLIGENCE AND LACK OF CARE AND THE CASE WAS THROWN OUT. I'M SICK OF DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-03-22
- VIN: JA3AW56V98U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: AYC PUMP FAILED CODE C161E. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE PUMP WAS FAILING DUE TO SALT CORROSION. THIS SHOULD OF BEEN A RECALL SINCE NURMEROUS OF OTHER CARS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-08-08
- VIN: JA3AW56V98U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: ACD/ACY RECALL. I PURCHASED MY 2008 EVO WITH 95000 MILES ON IT. SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH IT RUNNING LEAN AND MY AYC SERVICE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH 96000 MILES ON THE CAR IN HOPES FOR THEM TO HELP ME FIX THESE ISSUES WITH MY CAR AND YET THERE WAS NO HELP AT ALL. SO THEN I WENT ON MY WAY AND I HAD ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FIX MY PROBLEMS AND I WAS GOOD FOR ABOUT 4200 MILES MY CAR THEN HAD 100,200 MILES ON IT AND I HAD TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A REAR DIFF FLUID CHANGE IN THE TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE AND THE DEALERSHIP THEN TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THESE AYC PUMPS AND AND NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THIS ISSUE WHEN I WAS IN SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS I CONTACTED MITSUBISHI THEMSELVES AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR ME EVEN THOUGH THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THEM THAT I WAS THERE BEFORE HAND WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I FEEL LIKE I WAS SCAMMED AND IT'S HORRIBLE TO HAVE TO FIGHT WITH MITSUBISHI ABOUT A PUMP THEY CAN RISK MY SAFETY AND THE OTHERS IN MY CAR . I WAS SCREWED OUT OF WARRANTY THAT I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT .
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-01-05
- VIN: JA3AW86V88U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION CENTER DIFFERENTIAL PINS IN MANUAL 2008 MODELS. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE CAR POPPED OUT OF GEAR TO NEUTRAL, THEN I SHIFTED TO 4TH AND POPPED OUT AGAIN TO NEUTRAL, I HAD TO QUICKLY SWERVE TO THE SHOULDER AND THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP CAUSING THE CAR TO SKID. UPON TOWING IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL PINS HAVE BACKED OUT THEY SAID "IT HAPPENS BUT NOT THAT COMMON." I WAS IN DISBELIEF THE PINS HAD CAUSED A CRACK IN THE TRANSMISSION CASING AND ALL THE OIL IN THE TRANSMISSION HAD LEAKED OUT CAUSING THE THE GEARS TO CEASE UP NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. SEE PICTURES, UPON RESEARCH I HAVE SEEN MANY SIMILAR SITUATIONS ON THE EVO FORUMS AND IN FACT 2 MAJOR COMPANIES JACKS TRANSMISSION AND SHEPTRANS OFFER "UPGRADES" TO PREVENT THIS! UPGRADES? TO CAUSE A TRANSMISSION FROM COMPLETELY FAILING. APPARENTLY MITSUBISHI RECOGNIZED THIS AND UPGRADED THE PINS HEAT COATING IN 2010 TO PREVENT THIS BUT I AM STUCK WITH A 5000 DOLLAR REPAIR BILL AND I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. I TRIED TO REMEDY THIS WITH MITSU USA AND IT HAPPENED A YEAR AGO BUT I AM STILL UPSET NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AND I STILL DRIVE THIS CAR TO THIS DAY. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE REVIEWED IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. 2008 LANCER EVO GSR MODELS

LOOKED AT THE FLOOR FOUND SOME RED OIL DRIPPING. IT MAY HAVE SEEM THAT PUMP MAY HAVE BEEN FAILING TO HOLD PRESSURE AND LOSE OIL. POSSIBLE GASKET FAILURE OR PUMP CRACK. BEEN SEARCHING ONLINE FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS, I FOUND OUT IT SEEMED TO BE MOSTLY EVERY OWNERS PROBLEM. IS THIS SUPPOSE TO BE COVERED BY MANUFACTURER? SEEM LIKE POOR MATERIAL BUILD. *TR
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-12-05
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: VEHICLE WAS IN COLD WEATHER, AYC SYSTEM LIGHT TURNED ON. I CHECKED THE FORUMS AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THAT INDICATES THE PUMP IS BAD. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-01-08
- VIN: JA3AW86V28U
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: IT WAS A COLD WINTER DAY, I STARTED DRIVING MY EVO TO A NEARBY GROCERY STORE. ENROUTE, THE AWD SYSTEM WOULD THROW A WARNING AND A DASHBOARD LIGHT LIT UP. I WAS CONCERNED, STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NO LEAKS OR NO WEIRD NOISES. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO SNOW/TARMAC/GRAVEL MODE. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT STRANDED ON THE ROAD SIDE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I CAME TO KNOW THAT THE ACD PUMP FAILED AND HENCE IT THREW AN AWD ERROR. ITS COSTING ABOUT 2200 DOLLARS TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
POWER TRAIN,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-09-24
- VIN: JA3AW86V68U
- Components: POWER TRAIN,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: WHEN STARTING MY 2008 MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION GSR, I RECEIVED A WARNING MESSAGE ON THE CLUSTER DISPLAY SHOWING A YELLOW-ORANGE SYMBOL THAT SHOWS 4 WHEELS CONNECTED BY AXLES AND THE MIDDLE-SHAFT, WHERE THE FRONT TWO WHEELS ARE FACING AT AN ANGLE TO THE SIDE. THE ERROR CODE READ AS C161E: DTC C161E: ELECTRIC PUMP RELAY CIRCUIT SYSTEM (STUCK). THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2008 MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION. SO COMMON THAT WHEN YOU SEARCH FOR THE CODE C161E, YOU CAN FIND COUNTLESS FORUM DISCUSSIONS ON MULTIPLE WEBSITES COMMENTING ON THE FREQUENCY OF THIS ISSUE. INCLUDING MYSELF, A SINGLE DISCUSSION IDENTIFIES AT LEAST 48 UNIQUE CARS, 42 OF WHICH ARE THE 2008 MODEL YEAR, WHERE THE ACD PUMP FAILED, ALL OF WHICH HAVING DRIVEN FEWER THAN 75,000 MILES AND NEARLY 60% WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES (HTTP://WWW.EVOXFORUMS.COM/FORUMS/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?T=58221&HIGHLIGHT=C161E&PAGE=1). SEVERAL OF THESE VEHICLES REQUIRED MULTIPLE REPLACEMENTS OF THE SAME PART. THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS THE SAFETY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE VEHICLE'S ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE SYSTEM, LIKELY INCLUDING THE VEHICLE'S TRACTION CONTROL AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-11-01
- VIN: JA3AW86V58U

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-06-14
- Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS CAR AND AM LEARNING MUCH NOW THAT MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I TOOK MY CAR TO BE DIAGNOSED AT FITZGERALD MITSUBISHI IN ANNAPOLIS MD, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS AN 800 OR 3100 DOLLAR FIX, DEPENDING ON WHICH JOB NEEDED TO BE DONE. THE BIG FIX IS THE AYC/ADC HYDRAULIC UNIT THAT PRESSURIZES THE CLUTCHES IN THE DIFFERENTIAL. WHAT CAUSES THE FAILURE IS CORROSION. THIS UNIT IS PLACED BEHIND THE RH REAR TIRE AND HAS VERY LITTLE PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS. THIS UNIT NEEDS TO BE RELOCATED OR BETTER SHIELDING NEEDS TO BE ATTACHED. READING THE EVOLUTIONM.NET FORUMS, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS CORROSION IS VERY POPULAR AND THE REPAIRS ARE EXTREMELY PRICEY. *TR

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-04-13
- VIN: JA3AW86V88U
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL / S-AWC (TARMAC/GRAVEL/SNOW) INOPERABLE. TERRAIN SELECTION CAN BE PERFORMED AT 0MPH HOWEVER WHEN THE CAR IS PLACED IN MOTION: FORWARD / REVERSE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATES THERE IS SERVICE REQUIRED IN THE AWD TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM, FROM THE MULTITUDE OF COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE POSTED HERE. *TR
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-05-02
- VIN: JA3AW86VX8U
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: ACD (ACTIVE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL) PUMP HAS FAILED AND WITHOUT THIS PUMP PROVIDING PRESSURE TO THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM, THE VEHICLE GETS STUCK ON DRIVEWAYS AT A STOP WHERE THE TIRE AND WHEEL PACKAGES ARE ON DIFFERENT ELEVATED SURFACES. THE REASON THE PUMP HAS FAILED IS DUE TO PLACEMENT OF THE PUMP ON THE VEHICLE. MITSUBISHI HAS DESIGNED THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE PUMP TO BE LOCATED DIRECTLY BEHIND THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL. DUE TO THIS, WHILE DRIVING ON SEVERE WEATHER ROADS (PARTICULARLY SNOW SALTED ROADS), THE DIRT, WATER AND SALT GETS KICKED UP TO THE POSITION OF THE PUMP WHICH CORRODES THE FITTINGS AND THE PUMP ITSELF. THIS THEN CAUSES THE PUMP TO FAIL OVER TIME. IT COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY REMEDIED BY RELOCATING THE PUMP OR ANTI-CORROSION PROTECTION AND BETTER SEALING. BEING LOCATED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT THIS WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED TO ME, BUT EVEN DRIVING ONLY TWICE THROUGH SNOW ROADS IN THE PAST 3 YEARS HAS CORRODED THE PUMP TO FAILURE. MITSUBISHI HAS DENIED THAT THIS IS PART OF THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY, WHICH MEANS IT WILL BE A $2000+ DOLLAR FIX. *TR
ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-10-28
- VIN: JA3AW56V98U
- Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: ACD (ACTIVE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL) PUMP FAILURE AT 43000 MILES. WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY BUT FAILED AGAIN 2 MONTHS AGO (LESS THAN 60000 MILES) JANUARY 2014. SO THE NEW PUMP INSTALLED DID NOT LAST FOR MORE THAN 15000 MILES. THIS IS A COMMON AND KNOWN ISSUE FOR ALL MITSUBISHI MODELS EQUIPPED WITH THAT ACD STABILITY CONTROL. *TR
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM

- VIN: JA3AW86VX8U
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: AS MANY EVOLUTION OWNERS WHO LIVE IN THE MIDWEST CAN ALSO ATTEST, MY EXAMPLE NOW JOINS THE CLUB OF MODELS WITH DEFECTIVE ASC/AYC PUMP FAILURE. THE PUMP FAILS WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES RUN CLOSE TO FREEZING, ON TOP OF THE UNIT CORRODING, AND EVOLUTION OWNERS ARE BEING FORCED TO SHELL OUT $1800 MINIMUM TO MITSUBISHI FOR THE PUMP ALONE, NOT INCLUDING LABOR. I BELIEVE THIS HAS ONLY OCCURRED TO MY MITSUBISHI AFTER SIX YEARS BECAUSE I'VE BEEN VERY GOOD ABOUT KEEPING THE UNDERBODY CLEAN, AND IT'S NEARLY ALWAYS PARKED IN A HEATED GARAGE. WITHOUT THE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THIS INTEGRAL DRIVETRAIN EQUIPMENT, WE AREN'T ABLE TO CONTROL POWER DELIVERY FRONT TO BACK AND THE VEHICLE COMPUTER GOES INTO A TYPE OF LIMP MODE WHERE NO CONTROL OF THE DELIVERY OF POWER TO THE WHEELS IS POSSIBLE. OF COURSE THE BRAKES WORK AND THE THROTTLE WORKS, BUT WHEREAS THE VEHICLE USED TO BE SELECTABLE FOR SNOW OR GRAVEL MODES, GREATLY IMPROVING TRACTION AND THE ABILITY TO LIMIT SLIPPAGE OF THE REAR WHEELS, WE INSTEAD STARE AT A DIGITAL READOUT INSTRUCTING US TO SERVICE THE UNIT THAT'S CORRODED AND THE PUMP HAS OVERHEATED AND ALSO FAILED AS A RESULT. WWW.EVOXFORUMS.COM AND WWW.EVOLUTIONM.NET HAS PLENTY OF OTHER CUSTOMERS WHO ARE BELONG FRUSTRATED WITH THIS ISSUE THAT MITSUBISHI DOESN'T WANT TO ADDRESS. NEARLY ALL OF US HAVE SPENT GOOD MONEY ON A VEHICLE WE THOUGHT WOULD BE A SOLID PERFORMER IN BOTH THE DRY, WET, AND SNOW AND INSTEAD, SOME OWNERS HAVE TO PAY NOT ONCE TO REMEDY THIS UNIT THAT'S FAILING ON ALL OUR CARS, BUT I'VE HEARD OF OWNERS HAVING TO DO IT TWO AND EVEN THREE TIMES. OWNERS ARE TRYING TO SAVE MONEY BY BREAKING DOWN THE UNIT AND REPAIRING THE INTERNAL MOTOR. PEOPLE ARE EXPERIMENTING WITH WAYS TO PREVENT THE UNITS THEY PURCHASE TO PREVENT THEM FROM RUSTING AND CORRODING. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CONTACT MITSUBISHI AND HELP US?? *TR

- VIN: JA3AW86VX8U
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,ENGINE
- Summary: ACD PUMP WENT OUT ON MY CAR. NO REAL REASON OTHER THAN THE LIE OF IT BEING COLD.... 20 DEGREES ISN'T TO COLD TO ME. EITHER WAY, WITHOUT THE ACD PUMP THE CARS AWD DOESN'T WORK TO STANDARD. WHAT AWD CAR ISN'T MADE FOR COLD. RIDICULOUS. HAPPENS TO ALOT OF EVOS. NEEDS RECOGNIZED AND RECALLED. ALSO MY TIMING CHAIN WENT AT 36K. NO TIMING CHAIN SHOULD GO OUT THAT EARLY NO MATTER WHAT. THEY TOLD ME ITS BECAUSE I DIDN'T CHANGE THE OIL TILL THEY DROPPED THE OIL PAN AND SAW THAT THEY WERE WRONG. THE CHAIN ISN'T MEANT TO HANDLE THE TORQUE OF THE CAR. THAT'S A MANUFACTURE MESS UP. ANOTHER ONE THAT SHOULD BE A RECALL WITH THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE/HAD THE ISSUE. AND ONE MORE, THE P.O.S. FUEL RELAY THAT DIES ON YOU AND COULD POSSIBLY BLOW YOUR MOTOR. THE FUEL PUMP AND TIMING CHAIN HAVE BOTH BEEN UPDATED YET NOT RECALLED. WHY? DOESN'T MAKE SENSE THAT THEY NOTICE THE PROBLEM, MAKE A NEW PART FOR THE PROBLEM, BUT DON'T FIX IT UNDER THEIR MISTAKE. *TR
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-01-06
- VIN: JA3AW86V78U
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN
- Summary: VERY COLD DAY OUT, ABOUT -15 F, WARMED UP MY VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES PLUS. ONCE I BEGAN DRIVING, ABOUT 10 MPH MY SERVICE REQUIRED LIGHT CAME ON FOR MY AYC PUMP. DEALER SAID THAT IS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. MITSUBISHI HAS KNOWN THAT IS A COMMON ISSUE IN COLD CLIMATES THAT USE SALT ON THE ROADS. THE SALT CORRODES THE PUMP AND MAKES IT FAULTY/MALFUNCTION. THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED DUE TO THE KNOWLEDGE THAT AN EVO DRIVER HANDLES THEIR CAR [THAT THEY PURCHASED AS SUCH] AND LOOSES THAT RIGHT WITH A FAULTY AYC PUMP. *TR
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-01-06
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I STARTED MY CAR AND THE AWC SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS ABOUT 0 DEGREES OUT THAT DAY, WHICH IS A VERY UNUSUAL TEMPERATURE FOR S. INDIANA. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR IT SCREECHED FOR JUST A SECOND AND THEN POPPED UP THE CODE. I RESTARTED THE CAR, JUST AS THE MANUAL HAD SAID AND WHEN I RESTARTED IT THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CODE READ IT THREW A C161E CODE WHICH IS AN ACD/AYC PROBLEM. AFTER DOING A LOT OF RESEARCH I FOUND OUT ITS A COMMON PROBLEM AND ITS AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM, ABOUT $2,000+. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD MY WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS, IT IS NOT PART OF THE POWER TRAIN. *TR
2008 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution.
- Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:BELTS AND ASSOCIATED PULLEYS
- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Lancer, Lancer Evolution, and Outlander; 2009-2011 Lancer Sportback, Lancer Rilliart, and Lancer Sportback Ralliart; and 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles. The affected vehicles, manufactured with 4B1 engines, have an engine pulley and belt arrangement for turning the alternator, the cooling fan and the power steering pump (if equipped). These pulleys may experience unusual wear and allow for belt detachment.
- Consequence: If the drive belt detaches, the battery may discharge, resulting in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the drive belt with a rubber belt. Drive pulleys that are excessively worn will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 15, 2014. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-14-009.
- Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
- Components: POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION
- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 Lancer Evolution vehicles manufactured from December 12, 2007, through March 5, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the clutch master cylinder can fail.
- Consequence: Failure of the clutch master cylinder reduces the ability to shift the vehicle into or out of gear, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected clutch master cylinders free of charge. The recall began on November 12, 2013. Owners may contact Mitsubishi at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's campaign number for this recall is SR-13-009.
- Manufacturer: MITSUBISHI MOTORS NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVE
- Summary: MITSUBISHI IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 LANCER AND LANCER EVOLUTION VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KENTUCKY, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN AND DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. IN AREAS WHERE HEAVY ROAD SALT IS USED IN THE WINTER, A LONG TERM EXPOSURE TO A MIXTURE OF MELTED SNOW WITH SALT THROWN UP BY THE OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD MAY CAUSE A WATER-SALT MIXTURE TO ADHERE TO THE FRONT IMPACT SENSORS.
- Consequence: THIS COATING OVER TIME MAY CAUSE CORROSION OF THE SENSOR. IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH OF THE TYPE THAT WOULD DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS THIS TYPE OF SHORT-CIRCUIT MAY CAUSE A DELAY IN THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS WHICH COULD RESULT IN DRIVER OR PASSENGER INJURY.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW FRONT AIRBAG SENSORS THAT HAVE IMPROVED CORROSION RESISTANCE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 27, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT AT 1-888-648-7820.
- Manufacturer: MITSUBISHI MOTORS NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:DELIVERY
- Summary: MITSUBISHI IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 LANCER EVOLUTION, RALLIART, AND SPORTBACK RALLIART VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH TURBOCHARGED ENGINES. THE MANNER IN WHICH THE FUEL RETURN PIPE IS ATTACHED TO THE ENGINE, IN COMBINATION WITH FREQUENT VEHICLE OPERATION AT CERTAIN ENGINE REVOLUTIONS, MAY RESULT IN A RESONANCE THAT, IF CONTINUED OVER TIME, MAY CAUSE A STRESS CRACK TO DEVELOP AT THE FIXED PORTION OF THE FUEL PIPE.
- Consequence: IF THIS STRESS CRACK DEVELOPS, FUEL LEAKAGE MAY OCCUR. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
- Remedy: THE FUEL RETURN PIPE WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW PART AND TWO ADDITIONAL ATTACHMENT BRACKETS WILL BE INSTALLED TO BETTER CONTROL FUEL PIPE VIBRATION. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI AT 1-888-648-7820.

I'm so excited to share that my husband and I decided to switch from his Mustang Saleen to an import, and we couldn't be happier with our choice! The EVO handles like a dream and we were torn between the Subaru WRX STI and the Evo, but after test driving both, the Evo was the clear winner. While the Subaru felt a bit 'lost' with its six-speed, the Evo's performance was top-notch. We did notice that the car could benefit from a sixth gear, but overall we are extremely satisfied with our first Mitsubishi. We haven't had the chance to really push it yet, as it only has 200 miles, but we are already impressed with its performance. We definitely made the right choice!

This Lancer is not your typical one. I've owned it for a year and haven't had any issues except for the clutch. Even though I don't drive hard or launch the car, I had to replace the clutch at around 12k. I ended up getting an aftermarket clutch and a new flywheel because of the warp. Other than that, I really enjoy the car and the fun that comes with it. I joined a local car club and ended up modifying the car a bit. The gas mileage isn't great, but with a 2.0 engine pushing out nearly 300hp on a 3k pound car, it's worth it. The interior is just okay if you have the base model, but an EVO is made for driving, not luxury.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my new EVO X. I've been driving it for the past two weeks and it has been an absolute blast! I love everything about it - from the sleek looks to the amazing handling and power. It definitely turns heads on the road! Some people may just see a Lancer, but those who truly know cars can appreciate what a great driving experience it provides. I've owned a variety of cars in the past, from BMWs to RX8s, and everything in between. I was considering several other options before choosing the EVO X, including the RX8 R3, 350Z, G37, MB, and BMW. But for the price and the amount of driving fun it provides, I think it's a great value. Plus, it seats five, so I can take my family out for a drive every once in a while. I haven't pushed it too hard yet due to its low mileage (I got it with only 50 miles!), but I can't wait to hit 1,000 miles. The interior is decent, although I'm not a huge fan of the cloth armrest. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend the EVO X to anyone looking for a fun and reliable car. Thanks for reading!

I bought my Evo and had it shipped across the country without ever test driving it. I was a bit skeptical but read several reviews and bit the bullet. Driving this car is exhilarating! Every time I am behind the wheel, I'm grinning ear to ear. It's by far the fastest car I've ever driven and for the money, it's an absolute steal.

I've owned three Evo's, and I must say, this one is the most daily driver friendly yet. Although the 5-speed can be a bit notchy when cold, the car performs well overall. The handling is truly the best thing about the car. The steering is telepathic, and the brakes are excellent. The power is fair, but the second factory reflash helped smooth things out and improved the upper RPM range. I did have to fix a rattle in the glovebox, but other than that, the interior is quiet. While tire noise can be high, the upgraded satellite radio/audio system is superb. If you're looking to solve any power issues, aftermarket parts and tuning are available and can be done quickly and easily.

We have owned our 2008 EVO for four months now and were initially very excited about our purchase. However, after waxing the vehicle for the fourth time 1 1/2 weeks ago, my husband noticed a massive amount of paint chips above the rear tires on both sides of the car and also on the hood. After researching online, we found that many other people have experienced the same issue, and unfortunately, Mitsubishi has not been very helpful in resolving the problem for most of them. If you are considering purchasing this vehicle, we would advise against it due to the paint chipping and windshield issues that seem to be common. We have had a disappointing experience with the quality of this car and regret our purchase.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my EVO over the past 6 months. While I've enjoyed driving it, there are a couple of things that have been bothering me. Firstly, I've noticed that the paint is quite thin and scratches easily. To avoid this, I've invested in a clear bra for the front, rocker panels, and trunk deck. It's a bit pricey at around $1000, but it's definitely worth it to protect the car. Secondly, I've found that the windshield is quite thin, which I believe is due to Mitsu's efforts to save weight. Unfortunately, I got a minor chip in mine and the windshield ended up splitting when I tried to repair it. I'm currently in the process of replacing it with a standard Lancer windshield, which is a bit thicker but also heavier. Just something to keep in mind if you're considering an EVO. Let me know if you have any questions!

Upon driving the car out of the dealer lot, I was blown away by the sheer power and torque of this beast. While the seats are supportive, adjusting them when reclining can be quite challenging. However, the transmission, while slightly notchy, is still superior to that of a Honda. Although the interior plastic parts are not up to par with my 06 Civic, this is a minor issue compared to the overall performance of the car. As someone who has previously owned a 2003 WRX, I can confidently say that the GSR's transmission is not a significant concern for me.

These cars are good and fun to drive, with great handling, good power, and a top-notch AWD system. While the interior is just okay and the comfort is not great, it's important to remember that this car is not meant to be a cruiser. In my opinion, the premium over the GSR's is not worth it, but if you have the budget, it's definitely a great option. If you're willing to wait, you may be able to snag a better deal in the future. Overall, it's a great car for those who prioritize performance and excitement.
