A FEW YEARS AGO I OWNED A GMC PICKUP WITH UNIROYAL TIRES. THE TREAD SEPARATED ON ONE TIRE IN MUCH THE SAME WAY AS THE FIRESTONES. IT DID $2600 DAMAGE TO THE FENDER. MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAID FOR THE REPAIR AND TRIED TO COLLECT FROM UNIROYAL. UNIROYAL TOOK THE TIRE AND THEN SAID THE DAMAGE WAS FROM UNDER OR OVERINFLATION. THAT WASN'T TRUE BECAUSE I ALWAYS CHECKED PRESSURES CAREFULLY, BUT IT WAS MY WORD AGAINST THEIRS. I HAD TO REPLACE THE OTHER THREE TIRES WHEN THEY SHOWED THE FIRST SIGNS OF TREAD SEPARATION. FRAM RACING HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS NOT BEARING A DATE CODE IN THIS RANGE ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. THE GASKET OF THE OIL FILTER BECOMES MORE PLIABLE UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES.
